Notability of Thomas Tantrum

A tag has been placed on Thomas Tantrum requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Movingboxes (talk) 11:15, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thomas Tantrum[edit]

Hi Stifle,

I had just created the new entry for the UK rock band called Thomas Tantrum (exact title), and before I could add to it, it had been deleted. Deletion records indicate A7 - this is where I am a bit confused, because I believe I was contributing to a cataloged list of album releases and band member information. It is true that Thomas Tantrum are a relatively new band, and don't have a lengthy history, but I was in the process of adding information about their recent rise in popularity through discovery by popular singer Lily Allen and had also linked Thomas Tantrum in their 'Discography' list - the tracklisting for their new self-titled album (which is still active as I type this). These would be notable enough for inclusion as an Wiki article. I feel having established their entry gives listeners an 'offical' listing of releases and a brief biography of the band (which was still being working on before the entry was deleted). Thanks!

While I'm happy to answer questions, it looks like your question could have been answered and resolved more quickly if you had used my message wizard. It's linked as "Talk" after my name and at the top of my talk page. Why not try it next time?
Thomas Tantrum was deleted under criterion 7 (under Articles) of our criteria for speedy deletion because it appeared to be an article about a band or musical group which didn't indicate why it was important or significant. Please see WP:NMG for details of what might show notability. If you think that these criteria are met, please explain which one and provide citations from reliable sources to back up your claim, and I will consider undeleting it.
You may alternatively file a deletion review request. Stifle (talk) 12:02, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I believe criteria can be met by #1 - where Thomas Tantrum has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works (independent from themselves). While I do not have physical copies myself (living in the USA), the band have compiled scanned print articles of their reviews from UK publications, and have posted them on their MySpace page; publications include The Guardian [1], The Times [2], and NME [3]. Such print reviews can be seen in their most recent blog post on their MySpace page (titled "Album Reviews"). The band have also experienced exposure through touring and recently appearing at this year's Reading Festival. This brings up #12 in criteria - being the subject of a half hour or longer broadcast across a national radio network. Their Reading performance was featured on the August 27th broadcast of Huw Stephens' new music show on BBC Radio 1. As of right now Thomas Tantrum is still featured on the main page as well as a link to the audio stream of this week's broadcast - [4].

Thank you. I've restored the article, but you should add those references into it to make sure it isn't deleted again by someone else. Stifle (talk) 16:34, 30 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Bbrw-title.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Bbrw-title.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:54, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
