The SFU's CASR photos[edit]

I've been using that site for about two years now. I don't think I have come across a single image there that was free enough to be uploaded to the wikipedia. I was surprised to recognize the Orca vessel image had been uploaded.

I have a nemesis who criticized me for not putting {copyvio}s on a pair of images someone uploaded to the Carolyn Wood article. One was clearly a copyright photo from the pornographic video "Ilsa, she-wolf of the SS". It was soon deleted. But the other one may have been a screen capture from a television documentary. I believe that kind of image is free enough to be included in the wikipedia.

I don't think I can be held responsible for the uploading of an unfree image, if I didn't upload it myself, just because I put a hint on the uploader's talk page, rather than putting a formal wiki tag on it.

Most of the Canadian Armed Forces images, and Canadian Coast Guard images were uploaded with liscenses that are no longer considered free enough for inclusion in the wikipedia. I spent some time looking for alternative images in the .gov and .mil domains. Those images are generally PD. I found some. They aren't as good as the originals. But we have to abide by the rules, no?

The answer to your question is: No, CASR never agreed that the artwork of Stephen Priestley could be "exploited in any way by anyone for any purpose...".

Tolivero made a statement that implies that Mr. Priestley has agreed to this far-reaching declaration regarding his copyright. He did not. If asked, he would have gladly given Wikipedia the right to re-publish his artwork for this one specific purpose - a communal, non-profit encyclopedia.
