July 2012[edit]

Hello, I'm 99.168.82.133. I noticed that you made a change to an article, but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks, 99.168.82.133 (talk) 03:18, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To elaborate, in case you're new to Wikipedia: any individual business establishment added to a Wikipedia article would need its significance to be supported by citations to reliable sources. Short of that, perhaps you can provide a reliable published source which supports the notability of the city's bars in general, if not a listing of specific establishments. Without such sources, such a list has the appearance of WP:OR, and can not stay in a Wikipedia article. Thanks, 99.168.82.133 (talk) 03:26, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
To elaborate, material must be encyclopedic and backed by reliable and verifiable sources. The material about bars did not meet that criteria and even the generic statement about former bars is unsourced. Nor was I able to find a source to support the claim about the longest bar. The songs are also questionable, as the sources are not at the standard and the singers / songwriters don't appear notable. Please review Wikipedia policy on sourcing before reinserting this material. Alansohn (talk) 04:09, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Despite the above explanations, you've restored inadequately sourced content about apparently non-notable subjects, without explanation or discussion, and contrary to encyclopedic guidelines [1]. I've removed them again. Links to Youtube videos and self-published websites are not generally considered adequate to establish notability. As suggested above, perhaps you can find reliable sources that mention the subjects you wish to add. 99.137.209.191 (talk) 12:06, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Keansburg, New Jersey. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Jim1138 (talk) 00:07, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Keansburg, New Jersey[edit]

Why do you believe that your addition to Keansburg, New Jersey is notable? I don't see it as such. Jim1138 (talk) 00:13, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

None of the content you've added is acceptably sourced, nor is there any evidence that the personalities you persist in including are notable. What I do suspect is WP:COI. 99.137.209.191 (talk) 00:25, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's notable to people who live in this town so I guess keep hitting your head and maybe something will shake loose?? jokin...It's under the interesting facts section which I see as trivia that is not necessarily of historic value. Also, you are not the only one deleting things here. I'm sure there are things about your hometown that are only interesting to you. I kinda like the one song and the other is terrible but then I don't like country music so. Most people in my town pretend the novel does'nt exist so I don't think I can budge on that one in my opinion. Tiltedsun88

I've written no book and have no connection to any who made either of the two songs or the novel in question. I simply live in this town and have done so my whole life. I've cited the original sources of the material. I don't know how I can prove their notability to you? You seem very angry. Maybe there's a line judge in here somewhere? I will try to find alternative sources for citation. Tiltedsun88

  • I removed the section, after reading it and its sources carefully. Such "interesting" facts have no place in an encyclopedic article. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 03:24, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I never added the interesting facts section, it was already there. I simply added to it. You guys are removing stuff that his been in the article for years. I don't get it but I'm trying. Yer like an army of ants with black pens. tiltedsun88

Keansburg revisions[edit]

Sourcing in Wikipedia is absolutely critical. I know that you were trying to improve the article from your first edit, but you can see the sea change in attitude once you started adding sourced material and adding the sources. Take a look at the other references for examples of how to do it yourself, but I'll be happy to make any necessary tweaks as long as there is something there to latch onto for a source. Thanks for the thank you, for your work in improving and expanding the article and for realizing that adding sources can change both articles and attitudes. Please let me know on my talk page if I can help with anything. Alansohn (talk) 20:48, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
