The State Within edit

You changed my edit of The State Within from 7 episodes back to 6 and wrote me, "The series had six episodes. From where do you get the idea there were seven?" Thanks! Ideally, I'd like to put it up at PR, but PR has a big problem with a lack of reviewers; in the past I've had articles up there for ages receiving little reviews. I have another article at FAC at the moment, so I'd like to wait until that's finished before we submit A Journey. Miriam O'Reilly

Thank you for help by cleaning up the article on Miriam O'Reilly. I agree with you that we need to reform this article - rather than giving her age (which will change) we need to put in her birth date. After all, somewhere in Wikipedia, we are advised to avoid expressions such as "two years ago" and give exact dates if possible. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 20:42, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

You're welcome. I think it looks better with a birth year rather than just giving her age. We should probably mention the age somewhere in the article in the context of the case, i.e., how old she was whe she was sacked, etc. My guess at the year of birth is 1957 as she is presently 53, and it is quite early in the year. Also I'm sure someone would have mentioned her birthday if it had been around this time. e.g., "O'Reilly, who recently turned 53", etc. Hopefully a date of birth will become available. Time format at "Gary Moore"

Just a heads up! I noticed you did not like the "green eggs and ham" method of keeping time at Gary Moore. I have seen variously AM/PM separated with a space from the numbers like so... 4:00 AM, on Wikipedia. AM means 'ante meridiem', before noon, and PM means 'post meridiem', after noon. They are widely used conventions in places where the 12-hour clock is in standard use. Where the 24 hour clock is used AM and PM are not necessary, because every hour of the 24 hour day is assigned a unique value. (...need I say?)

I realize that there are many ways to write the abbreviation for "ante meridiem." It can be in capital letters, small capitals, or lowercase, with or without the periods. How it's written is a matter of style. In print, it is styled a certain way according to the decision of the publisher (i.e. TheRetroGuy). :-)

Most commonly it is seen with the periods, and in print it is usually written in small capitals. So "p.m." is more customary and familiar than "pm." Whichever you do, though, do it consistently within a given document or piece of writing. If you are writing for publication, style it the way the publisher does, or expect to see it changed by an editor (me). :-) --Skol fir (talk) 18:18, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

So here it is again. I was just trying to say that my preference was the "AM"way, while you seem to prefer am. I don't mind which one, AM, am, a.m. or AM is used. The main thing is to remain consistent. I did have a little joke I wanted to add. Most people don't have much to report at 4 AM in the morning, but Gary was unfortunately sent "pining for the Fjords", a reference to Monte Python's Flying Circus skit of the Dead Parrot. So now we need to put 4:00am as the time. I will leave it as is. My statement above was actually "tongue in cheek," as I just added your handle to the name of "publisher" as I was paraphrasing someone else.

What happened is that after you left your message on my Talk Page, I wanted to answer there, then leave you a message that I had answered. Unfortunately, as I had just placed the "Usertalkback" template on my page at 18:48 (timestamp, no "am" needed here!), I composed my diatribe to you, which was summarily disposed into the trash because I forgot to read the notice that this doc had changed since my last view, and all changes I made would be lost. No worries. I guess I was being a bit cheeky myself though, so apologies for that. No offence intended and all that. The edit conflict facility can be a bit of a pain when it gets triggered, and I've lost a few edits that way, so don't fret about it. I actually have no preference on which time format is used either, but am in the habbit of writing it in the style of 4:00am rather than any other. It comes from years of having had my writing proof read and corrected in my off-wiki life, so I tend to go into automatic pilot, as it were. I suppose one could argue that this is a preference. I was making a joke out of "green eggs and ham" because I was thinking of something that one does not like at first, and then, once trying it, one might be pleasantly surprised. The same goes with the AM/PM thing. At first a new way of doing it may look odd, but once you try it, you might like it too! :-) Anyway, with some of these formats, there is apparently no Wiki way. Rachel 'Annabelle' Riley

Notice you deleted a citation yesterday twice via a source pertaining to her former school which apparently confirmed her second name was 'Annabelle'. I don't know if this helps, but I've also looked at a few auction sites offering signed photographs of her where she signs her name 'RA Riley' which may indeed strongly indicate her second name is 'Annabelle'.I actually have got to know Rachel a little over the last year through attending recordings of COUNTDOWN in Manchester,so if I'm able to attend again, I'll try and ask her if her second name is 'Annabelle'.Thank You,JFBridge, 11 March 2011,19:55 pm.

I deleted it because the ref wasn't working properly. I guess it probably is her as it is unlikely there would be two people with the same name in the same class (but not impossible) and it makes no reference to her post-school career. If you want to add it again there's no problem with that, but please follow the template guidelines for adding refs, see {{cite web}} for the parameters. Good luck. New Jo Stafford pages

I started clattering away at The Chesterfield Supper Club and while doing that, found there have been a total of 4 CDs issued in 2010 and 2011 which are compiled from the transcripts of the program-2 for Jo Stafford and 2 for Perry Como. Got the information and covers for them all at Amazon. Not sure if you want to add these to your discography but the Jo Stafford ones are At the Supper Club (Stafford) and At the Supper Club Part II (Stafford) Have added them all to the Chesterfield Supper Club template. Will add them to the template. What else is interesting is the information re: The Satisfiers vocal group who did backup for the Supper Club in NYC until the Fontane Sisters replaced then in 1948. They were sometimes known as Helen Carroll and The Satisfiers. While looking for information about them, I came to an obituary for Helen Kress which detailed her professional life. That was Helen Carroll's married name; her husband was the Carl Kress you see on the Jo Stafford Supper Club CDs. As of now, I have no other information on how that orchestra fits into the Supper Club. Everything I've seen until now talks about Ted Steele, Lloyd Shaffer (name is misspelled on the CD covers), and Mitchell Ayres in NYC, with Paul Weston and Jo Stafford, Peggy Lee and Dave Barbour in Hollywood. The Kress orchestra appears to have worked on the days Jo Stafford hosted the Supper Club while she was still in NYC. If enough can be found about the band, it can be added to the Supper Club page and template. Right now, the tough go is Lloyd Shaffer; there doesn't seem to be enough information available about him to begin any type of separate article. I have enough material to do Ted Steele and Mitchell Ayres, but not Shaffer. Matter of fact, the most I learned about him came in the way of an image I'll be uploading soon for the Supper Club article. Let me know when you have more album/CD articles and I'll pick up the images for the infoboxes. Still combing eBay for the covers we're missing now. We hope (talk) 17:11, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
Good luck with that. I think there's quite a few artists from that era who Wikipedia is yet to have articles about so any you can add is very useful. I must confess I thought of creating a Ted Steele article, but couldn't find a lot online so it will be great to see that. I'll start creating articles for some of the later albums today and over the weekend. Best of Jo Stafford

Just went to Amazon.com and the first title like this I found is for a CD: Amazon CD Amazon lists only the CD at the link. Not sure how much actual vinyl pressing is done any more--is it possible one of the links you have is for an album and one for a CD? (It's also possible someone at the website accidentally created two pages, identical in all but the URL.) My thought is that there's only one Best of Jo Stafford recording; it's on CD and may even come in vinyl, but it seems to me both of the links you have are for the same recording. If there were different release dates and a different recording company, I would think differently, but I think there's only one of these and needs only the page you've already done. New album page

I'll Be Seeing You (Jo Stafford album) While "shopping" for covers for your new pages, I ran into an auction for her I'll Be Seeing You 1959 album. A link for a 1983 Japanese re-release of it gave the track listings. Snagged a cover for Joyful Holiday, but still looking for the others. Have seen the 1993 Greatest Hits cover, but every image I've seen so far is too dark; her face is almost obscured. Hoping to see a lighter copy before uploading an image for this. I think you will want to have a look at this too. Shows some of her 1961 shows on tape along with what looks to be an apparent clip from (probably) a US television show she was on in 1960. Progress

As of now, we are missing only 3 covers- Songs of Faith, Songs for Sunday Evening and 16 Most Requested Songs for the articles now online. But in the meantime, I've learned that both Jo Stafford and Paul Weston went from Capitol to Dot Records in the late 1960s. (Have not yet been able to enter & ref the information.) So this means there are Dot albums out there also. Didn't have any reference(s) that talked about their being at Dot until now. We hope (talk) 21:48, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

Cool, thanks for searching them out. I'll create some more articles in the next couple of days or so. Good work finding the Dot Records info. I know she retired in the mid-60s, but given the number of compilations released in recent years, it would seem odd if there'd been virtually nothing through the late 60s and 70s, so there must be a few titles on that label. Would it help if I left some Billboard links on your talk page? Got all of this from Billboard re: Dot. There are some issues with trade ads in them which do list at least some of the albums. Not sure what kind of luck there will be for covers unless they were re-released by another company later on, but there is at least some start to information about the Dot albums. (Most of my day was taken by an A/V issue. It was fine early this morning, but then it notified that it couldn't update. Whatever happened there affected the rest of the company's website too, so I couldn't go to their help forum to find out if the problem was more wide-spread than me. Did a Google search on the company's name and had to get the information from Twitter re: problem and the resolution.) We hope (talk)

Have been unable to get online for a few days for various reasons, so a belated thanks for these. One thing we should consider as well is an article on Corinthian Records, although there doesn't seem to be much information about them. There are a lot more I ran across and bookmarked (albums). (Marked image pages also. :) ) While going through things, I discovered a lot more about the Jonathan and Darlene Edwards act and albums, enough that it seems to also be worth thinking about a separate article here too. As of now, it's combined with the "Tim-Tay-Shun" text on Jo Stafford's page. She did other comedy singles after this with Ingle, BTW, but this was the huge seller. Have an article bookmarked--interview with them both, where Paul Weston gets into depth about Corinthian. Need to take another look at it as this may work for having enough material for a Corinthian article. Am wondering too if a Stafford discography shouldn't become a separate page because we're a long way from having a list of all her recordings right now. I had no other choice but to do it (discography) with Perry Como; there just wasn't room to have all of it on the Como article and still have an article that wasn't too long for reading. Held off on expanding the Jonathan and Darlene Edwards sections for them both; especially on Jo Stafford's page, you could see that adding to this was going to begin to be a possible "distraction" for the article. If needed, we can take some of the material from both of the pages regarding the Edwardses and start the separate page from that. Had to do this for the Como discography and the radio & television articles-they all originally came off the main Como article. Como's main article is over 108,000 bites long now; the discography is 59,000, and the radio and television one is close to the same length. If it won't scare you off, I'll post some of the links for other albums here. :) We hope (talk) 17:25, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi! I didn't actually delete anything - I cannot; I'm not an admin. I just alerted others, and when they acted, I notified the user.
I did the same re. the diff you mention (Ryan Giggs), and it has been oversighted now.

Will be getting the new covers up as soon as possible. Did do the Mitchell Ayres page over the weekend and put it in for DYK. Before that, someone did an Elmo Tanner one and since I had refs for him, I worked on it. Before that, worked on Nick Perito. Seem to go from conductor to conductor (Weston, Perito, Ayres) lately. Got all your newly listed now. Had a question re: the Platinum Collection as Amazon shows it with a different company and release year, so went to Google search. (Amazon didn't list tracks.) When I searched, the first hit that came up was the WP album page :). Did learn this was the right cover and uploaded it. When they're all done, we should be able to fill in most to all covers we might be missing by periodically checking both eBay and Amazon to see if someone's selling them. I saw the Amazon comment too, but that user never came back with an update to say which CD turned up when his order arrived. I compiled a bunch of references to each version here. Looking at all of those, it's not clear to me which version is the real version. I guess one option is to keep an eye on ebay to see if a private seller lists it, along with a track list. I remember now that my initial thoughts were this could be a 2 disc album for which separate articles had been created for each disc, then I was directed to the Amazon page. Now I don't know. I think you've probably picked the right version. I notice that the 2nd comment on the Amazon page is from someone who seems to confirm that it holds 23 tracks. All the current ebay listings are from mass sellers, so they all just use the Muse track listing, but Muse has the 23 track version too. Btw, the original Amazon user (Donald Rogers) also posted some useful info about another comp called "Only the best of Jo Stafford" here. This 3-CD comp is really just 3 regular cheapo comps packaged together: "Getting Sentimental Over Tommy Dorsey", "Jo Stafford and Friends" and "Best of Jo Stafford". It looks to me like they are the same, with the second issue being the one we already have a cover up for. What I'll do for now is to try getting covers up on the others until you decide what you want to do re: the two pages. It's not a lot of work to get the Sony 2000 issued cover uploaded and the later cover deleted so don't think about that when you decide, but it looks to me like we only need to keep one of the pages. Have discovered that Kiss Me, Kate was recorded with Gordon Macrae, so need to update that. I also found a cover for Kiss Me, Kate here though I don't know if it's the original one. Will get your new ones up as soon as possible. Shortly after I worked here Friday, had issues with the laptop keyboard. (You don't go very far when the "e" key won't work.) Had to move to another one. Think I'm "moved in" now. Am thinking that we probably will only be able to keep one cover, especially because there's not a lot of difference in them, so the newer one will most likely need to be deleted. Not sure if the Kiss Me, Kate cover is an original or not. Maybe hold off on a cover for that for a bit and see if anyone tries selling one on either eBay or Amazon? Release unknown section?

Have found out that she had some albums released with Ross Records. Have this one and have worked on sticker removal. Have a track list from here but don't know when the album was released. It would be circa 70s-80s as the photo on the cover is of her when she's older. Do you want me to make a heading on the template for release unknown and then list whatever we don't know about that we have there? Yes, that would be good. I tend to mess them up a bit when I change them. It took me several previews to get another decade added properly. :) I'll get the rest of the CMT list up today. I notice there's some on there that don't have tracks listed. I've been leaving them for now, but will take a look on Amazon and other sites to see if I can find any tracks. Also need to find out more about the 3 disc release from 2008 that is basically three albums consolidated into one, and I notice there's a couple of 2 for 1 releases where 2 original albums were loaded onto CD. This might help re: the labels and the explanation that many of the albums we see were done by a "rental" or "lease" of the material from the Westons to the respective company, and also how Corinthian, founded in the early 60s, did nothing much if at all until she won her royalties case. It also explains how Corinthian rented or leased the Captiol and Reprise masters to issue material on the Corinthian label. There is a copy of the rare record (Glass Wax/Snowy Bleach-a promotion from the 1950s television show-they were the sponsors) referred to on eBay now. Have it bookmarked. Want to preserve the link to the auction and the 2 photos via WebCite, but WebCite isn't working very well right now. There's also a promotional photo of her from the 1950s show which details the sponsors on the back-from CBS.
