New timelines

I have just created a Timeline of overnight broadcasting in the UK‎ and timelines for multi-sports and election broadcasts will follow shortly as they are now all-but completed.

I think we decided on creating a timeline for daytime television and also for regional broadcasting on the BBC and ITV (either as separate timelines or a joint timeline) plus timelines for other genres, including film channels, shopping channels, music channels, and also state broadcasts, business programmes, religious broadcasting, music programming and soap operas. I'd also add current affairs programmes to the list. We also gave a thumbs up to a satellite television timeline. On radio, we talked about timelines for LBC and TalkSPORT and more city/regional timelines for radio including timelines for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Are there any others that we have missed?

Finally three of my articles have been put into draft space. Draft:Chronology of football on UK television and in truth it was a reasonable enough decision as it isn't anywhere near being completed. You can see the format I am using for this article and there are many more competitions and leagues to add, such as the FA Cup, European Cup/Champions League and international matches. I will add to this over time but if you can help me with this article then it would be appreciated. The other two articles placed in draftspace are Morning Edition and Five Aside on the grounds that they do not have enough reliable, independent sources. I'd like these to return to Wikipedia so any help with this would be appreciated. Rillington (talk) 16:50, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

All sounds good. I think I was going to look for stuff about commercial radio or radio in the Republic of Ireland (I forget which one it was now) so I hope to get a chance to do that now the COVID situation is better in the UK and there's not so much to add. I think the football on UK TV timeline could be returned to the main space as there's a lot more to add and the information should be available somewhere online. The two radio programmes might prove more difficult, mainly I think because of how long it's been since they were broadcast and there not being so much information about them from other sources. Unless it's about something very notable, such as the Today programme or The Archers, it can be difficult to get hold of information about radio programmes before the mid-1990s. I think the timeline you were going to do was one for commercial radio in the Irish Republic I think you also indicated that you were happy to maybe do the daytime television timeline.
The chronology of football on UKTV is very much work in progress which is probably why it was draftified. There is plenty of information to add to it but the formatting is something that will take the time, whilst ensuring completeness for the major competitions, such as the FA Cup, European tournaments, the Football League and the Scottish Premier League and Scottish FA Cup. However, I felt that draftifying the Radio 5 programme articles was rather tight because they were referenced with a good source. I think there are audio clips on MixCloud which will add a reference to the content but it's a question of locating those clips. Rillington (talk) 15:21, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

Draftspace

I could do with some help regarding the repeated rejection of my article about community radio station Draft:West Wolds Radio which has been moved into draftspace. I have added independent references but it continues to be rejected on the grounds that they are not independent. Also, they are saying that it is not notable because the article currently mainly focus on the opening and closure of the station. It's starting to feel as though an example is being made out of this article as the reasons for rejection seem to become ever more spurious. I have added a post about this to Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk so any help and support would be appreciated.

Also, three other articles that I have created remain in draftspace - Draft:Chronology of football on UK television, Morning Edition and Five Aside. Any help with these would also be appreciated. Rillington (talk) 15:11, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

New timelines update

I am also working on two more new timelines. One is for MTV in the UK (which will also include VH-1) and the other is for digital terrestrial television, which will include both ITV Digital and Freeview. You indicated that a timeline for satellite television in the UK might be another possibility. Do you fancy the idea of having a go at a satellite timeline? These are in addition to my multi-sports and election broadcasts timelines which i am continuing to put together.

The overnight timeline looks good. I'm pretty sure the first overnight broadcast was from the 1955 general election when the BBC was on air until 4am providing election results, but I'll need to check that out to be sure. I'm happy to compile the timelines you mentioned, but I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to do the research, particularly for the Ireland one, but watch this space. Of course there was the occasional overnight broadcast for one-off events such as election night results programmes but I wanted to keep the timeline to the development of overnight TV rather than to one-off events prior to the 1980s which is why I started the timeline in 1983 as this appears top be the first step into regular night time broadcasting.
I look forward to your timelines for satellite TV and for daytime television - they will perfectly compliment my overnight and forthcoming DTT timelines. Rillington (talk) 14:21, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
