Unexplained reordering of cast[edit]

Hi there, two things re: this edit at Ishqbaaaz: 1) You should always use edit summaries when making any change, so other editors understand the rationale for your change. This is a community editing project, and communication is a huge part of what we do. 2) The unexplained reordering of cast members seems completely arbitrary when you don't include an explanation that is consistent with established community guidelines. To people like me, it looks like you're just ordering cast per your own personal preference/favorites. This sort of thing has presented problems in the past, for instance in Malayalam cinema articles, we had two disruptive users who kept fighting over whether Mohanlal's name should be listed before Mammootty's, or vice-versa. If you edit TV articles you should be familiar with our Manual of Style, which represents community consensus on content. Per WP:TVCAST, "The cast listing should be organized according to the series original broadcast credits, with new cast members being added to the end of the list." Thus, the order that cast/characters should be presented, is fairly specific. When you rearrange cast without an explanation, there's no way to tell whether or not you are adhering to our guidelines, and it just looks squirrely and arbitrary. Thanks. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 07:11, 13 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Second notice re: the unexplained reordering of cast[edit]

Hi again. Please stop reordering cast as you have done here without providing a valid explanation. If you believe that Jay Soni should be listed in the main cast section, then surely you'd have a clear explanation for why he should be moved, for instance if he receives starring credits. As I have previously mentioned, a lack of a rational explanation tends to look like you are entertaining a personal preference, rather than adhering to some order the producers prefer. Looking through your edits I don't see the use of any edit summaries. Wikipedia is a collaborative project, so communication is exceptionally important. Please start communicating. Thank you. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 05:26, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

August 2016[edit]

Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did to S3 (film). This contravenes Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Diff: [2]

S3 has not been released yet, which means you are attempting to predict the future. As the very obvious embedded notes in the cast section say: "As the film has not yet been released, additions to this section must be sourced per WP:CRYSTAL. Unsourced content will be removed." Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:08, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Final notice on the unexplained reordering of cast[edit]

Re: this and this, please consider this your last notice. Stop reordering cast without providing an explanation consistent with established guidlines. It is not our job to construct cast order based on our personal preferences. Since you continually fail to provide an explanation, it looks like you are creating an arbitrary order. Cast order should be determined by producers, typically by on-screen credits, with new additions to the cast being added to the bottom of the list. This also means that "Former cast" is not a valid sub-section for cast, because it does not tell us who was part of the Main or Recurring cast. If the show ended, would everybody be moved to "Former"? Of course not, that would be absurd. If someone leaves the cast, we indicate that through prose. "John Doe as Jake Singh - Doe left the series in the third season after a contract dispute.[2]"

I strongly urge you to familiarize yourself with our Manual of Style for Television if you plan to edit TV articles and our Manual of Style for Film if you intend to edit film articles, since any further deviations will be considered disruptive, and your editing privileges will be interrupted to prevent damage to Wikipedia's articles. Last notice re: unexplained cast reordering[edit]

Hi there, re: this, I've twice before asked you to stop reordering cast without providing a rational explanation consistent with WP:TVCAST. Without an explanation, your changes seem completely arbitrary, as if you're just entertaining your own personal preference for character placement and cast importance. Per the guideline, cast should be ordered by onscreen credits and appearance in the series, with new members of the cast being added to the bottom of the list. Also, we do not use slashes "/" at Wikipedia, because they create ambiguities. When you change Abhiram Nain as Siyamak to Md. Faizan Khan/Abhiram Nain as Siyamak, this raises the question of why we have two people portraying the same character. Did one of the actors leave? Do two people play the same character for some artistic reason? Does one actor play a younger version of the same character? If a cast member was replaced, then the cast list should look like this:

  • Abhiram Nain as Siyamak - Nain left the series in the third season for XYZ reason.
  • Cast Name as Role
  • Cast Name as Role
  • Md. Faizan Khan as Siyamak - Khan replaced Nain in the role of Siyamak in the third season.

What is sorely missing from these cast lists is any sort of real-world information, and that's simply not acceptable. Cast entries aren't supposed to only be three words long. See List of Millennium characters for an example of how we use words to describe characters and present real-world information about them. So if two actors play the same character simultaneously (say, because one is a younger version of the character), entries should look like this:

  • Abhiram Nain as Siyamak
  • Md. Faizan Khan as young Siyamak

Or whatever the case may be. Please remember that we write articles so that people who have never seen the series can understand it better. Please also consider this your last notice regarding the unexplained reordering of cast. If it continues I will have no choice but to interrupt your editing privileges to prevent disruption to the project. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:18, 17 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've unblocked your account, but only because the ordering you submitted actually turned out to be correct, with Balan's name appearing above the film's title. However, the lack of explanation is still problematic, and considering you have a history of reordering cast without sufficient explanation or even an acknowledgement that you understand community guidelines is problematic and will result in a future block if you continue to do it. Hi there. Re: this, it appears you submitted a malformed URL (It should be this) and incorrectly used |accessdate= when you meant to use |date=. |accessdate= should be used to indicate the date you accessed the article (today's date) and |date= is used to indicate the date the article was written. Further, the prose that reads "was stopped abruptly until a mutual confrontation was done" doesn't make sense grammatically. Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Indrajit Bose requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
