Userboxes[edit]

I'm a bit concerned by the way you use userboxes. It seems you just copy and paste boxes from other editor's pages. The evidence can be found here. You have copied everything from Fire Star's user page, including the administrator userbox. Please don't be so reckless in the future. - Deep Shadow 14:37, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Kate maberly-1-.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. After re-thinking my initial comment to your question on my talk page about how I created my user page, I decided to go ahead and organize your current user page into a new format with colors appropriate (in my mind at least) for a user who gets his user-name from "The Dead Man!" I took some artistic liberties with this and I hope you like it; I edited some grammar, reworded some sentences, fixed some bad links and did a bit of wikification. All of your userboxes are still there, but they are neatly organized into categories with drop-down menus! (I don't even have this on my page, I had to borrow the code from someone else hehe!)

At any rate, again - I hope you like it. I'm going to go ahead and change your user page to the new one. If you don't like it, of course you can revert it! :)

After I had already done all the work to create your new user page, I noticed some comments on your talk page about problems you have had with other users - some may have been misunderstandings on your part, on their part, on both parts or whatever... I'm not going to judge you, but in return for creating your new user page, I will ask this of you:

  • Wikipedia:Assume good faith - "To assume good faith is a fundamental principle on Wikipedia. In allowing anyone to edit, we work from an assumption that most people are trying to help the project, not hurt it. If this were not true, a project like Wikipedia would be doomed from the beginning. When you can reasonably assume that a mistake someone made was a well-intentioned attempt to further the goals of the project, correct it without criticizing. When you disagree with people, remember that they probably believe that they are helping the project."
  • Try not to accuse others of bad faith - "Making unwarranted accusations of bad faith (as opposed to explanations of good faith) can be inflammatory, and is often unhelpful in a dispute. If bad faith motives are alleged without clear evidence that others' editing is in fact based upon bad faith, it can also count as a form of personal attack."
  • Honesty - "Honesty is a requirement of all processes of Wikipedia, including content discussion, the dispute process and all other functions of the community. Editors are reminded that while you may expect an assumption of good faith, this is based on the counter-assumption of honesty in your actions."
  • Wikipedia:What is a troll? - I know it is really easy to get mad around here sometimes - when someone reverts an edit or whatever - it is easy to lose your temper. But remember other people use Wikipedia too, and it is not cool to do things like this: [1] - Blanking pages and adding bad words are not the ways to vent your frustration. If you ever get to that point, it might be a good idea to just walk away from the computer for awhile and do something else. Doing things like what I mentioned above will just frustrate and annoy other Wikipedians - with good reason. Sometimes I personally just have to walk away and take a deep breath and come back later. Trust me it helps, and its better than hurting your Wikipedia reputation by doing something you will regret later!
  • Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Why_sources_should_be_cited. I noticed that in the past it seems you have been angry that different people have reverted certain edits you have made. Trust me - I know it is frustrating, it happens to EVERY user from time to time and has happened to me countless times. What you have to realise is that unless something can be cited (credited from a source) and be proven, it is subject to deletion from Wikipedia. This is an encyclopedia after all, and we can't just add things "we think make sense" or "might be true" or "hope is true" to articles, because that doesn't help anything. Encyclopedias are based on fact. Please please please do not "bite" people for reverting your edits if they fall into the formentioned categories. They are just trying to do their job of maintaining a factual, well-written encyclopedia - thats what we are all here for! :)


I'm sorry, I don't mean to lecture you. I just want everyone at Wikipedia to get along and be the best contributors they can be! Please take what I have said seriously and I think you will have a much more enjoyable time using and editing Wikipedia!
