Notability[edit]

Hi! I don't think you understand what notability means on Wikipedia. Simplest explanation of the rather unique meaning of notability on Wikipedia is "qualifies to have an article". You will find the qualifications for biographical articles at WP:BIO. The reason we use the term "notability" is that in order to qualify for an article, the subject of the article has to be written about (or "made note of") in reliable, independent, secondary sources. None of the sources you have listed for Lavoy meet the qualifications of WP:RS and most are either not independent or secondary. If a subject does not have an existing Wikipedia bio, you must show that they would qualify for one and also you must show the connection to the school in order for them to be listed in a "Notable alumni" section. 99% of web content is not reliable. What makes a source reliable is a system of fact-checking. Reliable sources are newspapers, magazines, books published by mainline publishing houses (not vanity press), radio and TV news, and respected academic journals. You have not shown this for Lavoy.

Is the robotics club the only organization at Marquette High School? I doubt it. So why should a neutral unbiased encyclopedia article have a section devoted to the robotics organization and not the other organizations? An appropriate thing to do would be to list all the organizations and then discuss any achievements that meet the standard of encyclopedic set out at the school article guidelines. That would be state or national championships only, and only with independent references. We do not discuss achievements less than state championships, we do not allude to vague accomplishments (the highly respected..., many championships, etc). We only discuss verifiable achievements of a level of state or national championships. We do not discuss individual accomplishments, and we do not use either student or faculty names. Keep in mind that the page you are editing is Wikipedia's page on Marquette Senior High School, not Marquette Senior High School's page on Wikipedia. The article will need to follow the guidelines for school articles and the other policies of Wikipedia.

I will again be reverting your additions. If you disagree with me and can offer an argument based in policy and reliable sources, feel free to start a discussion on the article's talk page. Target audience[edit]

I alluded to it a bit above, but just to clarify a bit: An article on a US high school is not written for the people associated with the school. They have many sources of information about the school. Instead it is intended to provide an overview of the school to someone interested in it in Boise or Bhopal. Detailed info about individual organizations are just not needed. An example would be the robotics team. The term you used, "loosely associated" does not tell me anything. I doubt I am alone. Perhaps if a person was involved in the organization they might know what you mean. A great way to handle school clubs is to list them, and then append on the robotics team a reference to the web page you hyperlinked. We do not do in-article hyperlinks.
