My Signature

From what I understand as long as I don't edit the signature (I would protect the page if I could) the use of {{sig}} does not have a substantial additional server requirement. If I choose to change the signature I will use {{sig2}}. Thanks for the kind words re TfD. I think that this issue re meta-templates (or subtemplates) causing a lot of overhead is somewhat overblown as the hardware issues would not be significantly resolved by getting rid of them. Everyking

In the short term I am far more interested in getting my restrictions removed than in trying to change any policy, which I don't think there is much hope for at the present time. If you'd like to help me out, you could argue in my favor regarding the ArbCom case. Everyking 19:09, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

By encouraging you to make positive, good-faith policy contributions and suggestions—rather than taking shots at the ArbCom—there might be the beneficial side effect that the ArbCom could consider you rehabilitated.

I want to give you the benefit of the doubt with respect to policy. I'd like to see you make an honest effort to bring about change...or stop complaining. I don't think it's appropriate for other Wikipedians to kick you (or anyone) while you're down. I actually disagree with some of the policy suggestions that you make on your Principles and Points page, but there's a right way and a wrong way to handle that. I don't think your suggestions should be ignored just because you've made some past errors in judgement.

But I'm not prepared to involve myself with your request to have your Ashlee Simpson restrictions lifted. As far as I can tell, you really haven't acknowledged why much of the community was so upset about your actions. You've haven't given a strong indication that it won't be a problem again. Rather, you've chosen to criticize the sysops, ArbCom members, and policy involved so often than Calton has turned it into a drinking game. (That might be a bit of a WP:DICK thing to do, but he also has something of a point.)

Make constructive comments (or just stop the endless criticism), say a mea culpa, and in another month or two I'd probably be willing to contribute to your application to lift sanctions. --TenOfAllTrades (talk/contrib) 21:14, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

opposing?

There were nine oppose-votes to my RFA, six of which were in good faith, and I certainly won't hold that against the voters. These three people, however, have accused me of a variety of crimes without offering any evidence, have been rather rude about it, and have refused to discuss the matter. I have not counter-accused them. I have not called them names. I have merely pointed out the fact that several people cited these oppositional votes as the very reason for their own support vote; by my count, seven people did that. In other words, when they oppose people this way it isn't helping their cause, and they may want to consider handling such matters differently in the future. I appreciate your concern; I'll de-watch your page soon enough. I would write a policy, but I've never done it before (I wouldn't be opposed to doing it, I just don't want to "do it wrong"). As for the category, I thought of that (most of the templates I stole ideas from to create this one had categories attached), but I don't know how to make one (I still a bit new to all this). I definately agree with you, however, that at this juncture more discussion is warranted before creating a category. You're more than welcome to watch over my shoulder; I just doubt that my talk page is as interesting as some others. :-) Creating categories is actually ridiculously easy; that's really the big reason why it shouldn't be entered in to in haste. If you add the text

[[Category:CategoryName]]

to the bottom of an article, that will create a category automagically. Click on the red category link at the bottom of the page and you can add a description to the category. Presto!

Policy, meanwhile, is almost as simple to create. Create an article in the Wikipedia namespace (follow this redlink, for example: Wikipedia:Doppelganger account). Draft something interesting. Don't forget to slap a {{proposed}} template on top of it, so people won't think you're trying to sneak in a new official policy. When you think it's ready for comment, drop a note in the Policy section of the Village Pump, and also on Wikipedia:Requests for comment (bottom section, labelled General convention and policy issues).

You can also draft a policy proposal in a subpage of your user space, and invite comment there. Either way, if you're not comfortable attacking it yet, then I'd be glad to work with you (or possibly dive into it myself) over the next little while. I moved the policy to the namespace, and I elminated the resulting redirect from your sandbox. I moved the page rather than cut/pasted in order to mantain the talk page and the page history; unfortunatley, I didn't realize the page was your regular sandbox until after I moved it (when I checked for double redirects), and I unwittingly took the history of your sandbox with the policy history to the new page. (I don't know how big of a problem this is for you, but I wanted to let you know. I also thought you might want to know, you still have references around the wiki to former contents of your sandbox.)

Nah, it doesn't bother me that the page's history has migrated; I probably should have had the page speedied to clean it up sometime in the past. Aside from confusing anyone who delves too deeply into the policy's history, it shouldn't do any harm.

Shark taxonomy

Hi! Tanks for the tips. Really I'havent in mind to merge Shark taxonomy list with the basic (general) articles for ex. Hexanchiformes. The main concept of this project is to explore as far as one can go the complex of taxonomical classification of sharks (and in a near future other fishes), and present all living and described species with there common/commercial names. The ideia that I've about Hexanchiformes an other similar pages is for describe general caracheristics of specimens, habitat, geographic distribution, ... and in all these articles create an internal link to the specific taxonomical classifiation. Hello.

Thanks for your message. It's actually nice seeing a message that sounds friendly, and not robotic and/or angry. Nice change from these days. Anyway, yes, I know what you mean. I've been told before about the way I should already have befriended with other admins. Thing is, at least until now, I've never done it. No real friends here. I work alone. There is someone, however, but it's a user I've known from before. A personal friend of mine.

Regarding bringing a neutral admin to the discussion, I think I've done something similar, but it wasn't aimed at sysops specifically. I just went way back on my list of contributions, so I saw I posted something at Requests for Comment indeed, and at Wikipedia:Third opinion. I thought it would be enough, but I didn't get results with the speed I was hoping to get.

Well, thanks for all the suggestions. I do understand what you mean, and I'll do my best to remember next time.
