To Imzadi1979 about ND Highways

Yeah, I was trying to figure out how to use those other wikitables. Anyway, I'm completely open to criticism and correction so I can help make Wikipedia better. Thank you for doing so. However, having traversed North Dakota Highway 19 before, there are many more major intersections than the five provided. If the USRD standard is to only include state, federal, and interstate highways, then so be it. But there are more major intersections than those.

Again, I just wish to improve Wikipedia's articles on the highways in my former home state. Thank you for hearing me out. Thecatchernumbersevenjooooemauer 23:47, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

You're welcome, and yes, the general standard is to only include the intersections with other state highways except for termini. Since Interstate and US Highways are technically state highways numbered as part of a national system (the only "federal highways" are the forest highways in our National Forests or roads owned and maintained by the National Park Service), they're included as well. We always list whatever roadway is at the two termini of the subject highway, even if that's a county road or a city street. We also list every interchange, no matter what. In some states, there are state-wide systems of county roads (like those in in the list of County-Designated Highways in Michigan) that will be listed in the tables, especially if that state's DOT includes them on the state map. Ditto secondary state highways. Imzadi 1979  00:03, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Map history

I have a 1947 Rand McNally atlas, if you'd like me to look something up for you, let me know. –Fredddie 02:17, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Yes, if you could please check to see if North Dakota Highway 15 has differed in its alignment between 1947, eight years after the route was aligned, and now, I'd greatly appreciate it. Also, a question...if there is no difference at all, does there need to be an in-depth History section on the page for it to achieve C-Class? I added an almost pinpoint route description and a junction list with mileage, so the only thing missing for C-Class is History. --–Thecatchernumbersevenjooooemauer
Take a look at M-67. That's a case where the highway was designated by 1919 when the state highway system was signposted in the state. It was later extended in the 1930s because the highway at its southern terminus (first M-15, now US 41) was realigned through Trenary. I included when the highway was fully paved. There's two more paragraphs though about how the highways that connected on either terminus have been renumbered (thrice for the northern terminus, twice for the souther one) over the intervening years. In short, even highways left unchanged in terms of routing have been changed, usually when the state finished paving them. Imzadi 1979  18:15, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay, I took a look at the article and I think I found a few things I need to add. I'm off to find some stuff for ND 15. –Thecatchernumbersevenjooooemauer 23:05, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

OK, here is the rule of thumb for assessments. As you may already know, there are three main sections to a USRD article: Route description, History, and Junction list. An article that has one (or none) of these sections is a Stub. Two sections is a Start. All three sections is a C. However, if one of the sections is so bad that it drags down the rest of the article, you can demote it a class. Any of these classes you can reassess yourself and you won't get much grief from the usual suspects.

B-Class is a little trickier. You have to have all three sections completed and it needs to be fully referenced. Simply put, if you think it can pass at WP:GAN, it's probably a B. Most of us USRD editors have a gentleman's agreement that we won't reassess our own articles to B-Class. Personally, that's when I use |reassess=yes.

Now I'll get to looking up your request. –Fredddie 23:34, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

I'm having a small problem adding references to junction list wikitables. If you could inform me on how I can add a reference without screwing up the whole table, I'd be all ears. –Thecatchernumbersevenjooooemauer 23:38, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
|length_ref=<ref name="whatever you want to call your reference">Foo</ref>Fredddie
It looks like the route is a lot straighter today than it was in 1947, but I was able to follow along just fine using your junction list. As far as paving goes, almost all of it was "improved" then. Only a section east of New Rockford was not yet improved. –Fredddie 23:51, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
Could you please add that to North Dakota Highway 15? You're the only one that has the proper reference. Could you also reassess the page? I don't want to reassess a page that I'm the main contributor to. Thecatchernumbersevenjooooemauer 00:04, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Seriously, the gentleman's agreement that the project has is that you can reassess your own articles up to the C-Class level, Bs in some cases. This dates back to the days in 2008 when Stratosphere and I would ring the reassessment bell several times an hour on the project's IRC channel while we were sweeping through and doing the initial expansion of Michigan's articles. I will reassess my own B-Class (Michigan' only has Cs and higher now), but normally I only do that now when I'm also nominating the article at GAN. Imzadi 1979  00:13, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
Sure, I'll add it later this evening. –Fredddie 00:15, 14 July 2012 (UTC) P.S. you don't have to use {{Talkback}} on my talk page. (in fact, I really, really, don't like the template) I'm watching your page so I see when you reply.
Okay. Sorry about forgetting about the gentleman's agreement. I'm still somewhat new to this. Thecatchernumbersevenjooooemauer 00:18, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Atlas

The oldest atlas I have is a 1991 travel atlas with maps for all 50 states and most of Canada and Mexico. It also includes maps of larger cities within the United States. Is that going to be of any help at all? Thecatchernumbersevenjooooemauer 00:35, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

One More Question

Does an article need a map for it to be considered a Good Article? I'm just wondering. Thecatchernumbersevenjooooemauer 00:43, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

No, but it's recommended that an article have some sort of image. –Fredddie 03:29, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

USRD newsletter

I was wondering if you'd be interested in writing a paragraph about what you've been doing on North Dakota articles. It would go into Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Newsletter/Newsroom#State_and_territory_updates. If you don't know what to write about, you could look at past issues to see what we've talked about in the past. If you're interested, just add it to the bottom of that section! Thanks. –Fredddie 02:54, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

If this helps at all

I have been able to find the following maps:

Hope this helps. I might help out with a few north Dakota highways, - Awardgive, the editor with the msitaken name. 06:28, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

West Fargo, ND is 5th largest city

Hi, You did this edit. 6th largest city? West Fargo, North Dakota is 5th largest city. Mandan, North Dakota is 6th largest city. You see to List of cities in North Dakota. I live in Grand Forks, North Dakota is 3rd largest city. --Rossdegenstein (talk) 00:27, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
