Wikics template[edit]

Hi Sveter! Recently, I created a new template to indicate English Wikipedia users who also contribute to the Czech Wikipedia.

Template:User wikics

Feel free to add it to your userboxes if you like it (and if you actually contribute). Happy Easter. Daniel Šebesta (talkcontribs) 22:37, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

2008 Olympics[edit]

Hi there. I recently reverted this edit of yours to 2008 Summer Olympic Games. My apologies for the pop-up edit summary; I changed the default summary to explain my revert but it didn't seem to take. I certainly didn't mean to suggest that your edit was not in good faith or that it was any sort of vandalism.

I think your edit was a good faith addition but I am concerned that it is introducing POV language. The statement "because the Chinese non-democratic communist regime is widely violating human rights." reads as though these violations are an established fact, but there are no references to support this claim. I recognize that there is controversy about the selection of Beijing as the host, and that there are human rights issues in China, but the lead paragraph of the article may not be the best place to dive into them.

I think an NPOV to address this would be to add a simple statement that "The choice of China as host country has been the subject of criticism by some politicians and NGOs," leaving out the claims about human rights issues. This statement should be referenced though. - EronTalk 20:13, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see you reinserted the sentence. I have edited to try and achieve a more neutral point of view, as follows:
Old version - "The choice of China as a host country has been a subject of criticism by many politicians and NGOs, because the Chinese non-democratic communist regime is widely violating human rights."
New version - "The choice of China as a host country has been a subject of criticism by politicians and NGOs concerned about China's human rights record."
I removed the "many" as it is vague - how many? I replaced it by defining the criticism as coming from those concerned about human rights in China. I added a wikilink to the page Human rights in the People's Republic of China as well. I think that is the best way of leading the reader to understand what it is that these politicians and NGOs are concerned about, and it is more neutral than simply asserting that China "is widely violating human rights."
I have left your references; thanks for adding them. - EronTalk 13:44, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
