Adam Cuerden apparently all of them listed here class A review. I think Mangin, Bouvier, and Sainte-Croix are fine, but the reviewer hasn't said one way or the other. Adam Cuerden I get that it is a mess. I think she thinks all of them are tagged incorrectly, but I cannot get a response to most of the questions I have asked. If you start at Aberdeen, I think she takes issue with it being "published", but that really doesn't matter in this case. UK copyright is 70 years after the author's death, so it expired in 1986 before the 1996 date. In the US, it was never published here, so she wants that template gone, but I can't figure out how to remove it because it is autopopulating. SusunW (talk) 18:29, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

Adam Cuerden Do you know how to move an image from commons to en.WP only? This is not in the PD in France, but was published in the US in 1919. The National Library of France says reproduction rights are reserved by Bibliothèque Marguerite Durand. SusunW (talk) 18:50, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

@Adam Cuerden and Gog the Mild: Can either of you extract, and upload as a new version of the same image, a cropped image from this photo, so that it matches this flipped and cropped image? I know how to use some features of the Commons crop tool, but, as the name suggests, it only works on files which have been uploaded to Commons; so I am afraid that this is beyond my competence. Gog the Mild I can go to the original image, scale it up and crop it to match the newspaper, but I have no earthly idea how to flip it. (I think that requires a magic wand.) Hi SusunW. Cropped, flipped and uploaded. But while the correct, albeit poor quality, image sits in the history; the actual image is the same, but reduced to match the size of the new upload. Gog the Mild you did all the work, I just told you how. You have wands and magic tools I don't. LOL The only reason I know about purging cache is someone told Yoninah to do that when we flipped out the image on Aletta Jacobs' DYK. Now, we wait to see if Nikkimaria will take these last tweaks, I am exhausted. Quite the demoralizing process. Not sure if FA is worth it if one cannot get feedback and answers to questions. Yeah, just call me magic-man. (You been following the cricket?) I have always found the images part far and away the least enjoyable element of FAC. I have just counted, and you have more images in this one article, than I have in all ten FACs I have nominated. That was always going to be a heartache. But if you do go for FAC, it will be relatively easy. You will get a wave through on the images by Nikkimaria as the criteria are the same, and you have done all of the hard work on the text: I don't think that you will get much more than suggestions on grammar and turns of phrase. That said, just dealing with four or five images in one of my articles leaves me feeling drained, so you must feel shattered. Gog the Mild yes, un-collegial so to say. All my go-to photo people have left the project or are on vacation and it is like some secret pact not to give answers on photos. I have absolutely never had a reviewer who answers only 1 question and ignores any others; who won't communicate. But, I am a drama-avoider big time, so I just try to find work-arounds for challenges. Cricket? The rainy season has arrived in the tropics, so I have chased/followed/herded many a Jiminy outta mi casa, but methinks this may not be the kind you mean. LOL SusunW (talk) 17:56, 14 June 2019 (UTC)

To be fair to Nikkimaria, in the three months Jan-March she did 50 image reviews of MilHist articles alone. So her not being very responsive may well be a defence mechanism. That said, I have felt that I have had to very painstakingly reinvent the wheel on more than one occasion.

Ipigott any chance you can help with a death date for Paul Demézy? If so, I can crop this image to use, as it was published in 1914. I have searched and find nada, but it's French which is always a problem for me. If not, we can use this one or this one, though I would probably get dinged to "prove" the 2nd clipping was from 1914. The other one from Le Devoir is described as "Les Eclaireuses françaises : [photographie] : grande conférence au Théâtre Marigny, le 14 Mars 1913". The author is anonymous. So it should be OK to crop it.--Ipigott (talk) 20:11, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

I hope these changes will be found acceptable. You've certainly had a pretty rough time. I had exactly the same kind of problems with the images for Carl Nielsen. That's what discouraged me from going for any more FAs. I think time is far better spent on GAs and on writing informative articles in general. Ipigott me too and thank you. I really do try to write complete articles. I totally concur that in my experience communication between reviewer and editor has a more collaborative feel at GA and don't actually think the "judge & jury" process actually results in an article being improved to its highest potential, which is what we should be about. For me, the focus has never been on my recognition for anything. It is instead about creating the highest quality article that can be done with the materials at hand and collaboration of others. I can appreciate why you might be tired of all this nit-picky stuff, but after taking some time away from the article, I'd strongly suggest that you run it through FAC as most of the hard stuff is already done. Honestly, it's well written and the images ought to be bullet proof after all this, so it should sail through FAC pretty easily. While I understand that you're not in this for the ego boost of getting an FA star, you might remember that only FAs can make the main page. And I expect that it would run pretty quickly, if for no other reason than to balance the stream of battleships and hurricanes that people like me produce on an assembly-line basis.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 15:11, 16 June 2019 (UTC)

Thank you Sturmvogel 66, I truly appreciate your supportive comments, but I just cannot imagine the thought of going through another review where there is little to no communication with the reviewer. Even though the majority was a positive experience, the last bit, especially as I had expressed numerous times that I needed help and that it was my first experience, was disheartening. I've also had issues when asking for help with obscure points of copyright law, so much so that I'm much more cautious in general when selecting images to use in my articles. I find it incredibly frustrating that I so easily find great images from the internet, but cannot conclusively prove publication date, etc. The whole system is set up as if you'd find the image in physical media and then upload it. But nowadays, we usually can't find first publication and it's practically like proving a negative. But the key point is that most FAC reviewers don't take on the work load that Nikki does and are generally much more responsive. And she's not the only image reviewer at FAC, just the most prolific. Thank you Ipigott, I suspect a bit more work will be needed, i.e. alt text on all the photos, not to mention trying to clear the remaining red links. If you really think alt text is required on the photos, I can do that for you. For about a year, I systematically added alt text to the images in my articles until I realized only one person was really interested. For me, the sensible solution is to make sure the caption clearly describes what the image covers. It may not be possible to find anything of interest on the remaining red links. I suggest they should just appear as running text without any attempt at linking. Personally, I'm still not happy with the list of names. Ipigott Somewhere in all this I read a link of FA, which said alt text was required per the MOS on all photographs. I also am unsure of whether a chart would be better, or if that format is acceptable for FA, but I would rather have the name, photo and brief description of who each was all together rather than a list followed by the photos. This is VxFC, a LTA, who often attributes fake statements to random long standing editors, in a cloak of apparent legitimacy and tries to drama-monger. A steward (TNT) and another functionary (TonyBallioni) was attacked in the same post (and TNT had noted him to be VxFC, too). Further details of his behavior can be read over WP:LTA/VXFC.

To cite a prolific harasser, (IIRC, the ArbCom had asked Legal to look in, lomg back) in a discussion about fighting harassment, is quite ironic. I (thus) hope that you will either remove the diff or take responsibility for the entire contents of his comment per WP:PROXYING.

Thanks, for the removal. I am not sure where did I disrespect you or accuse you, at all. And, I sincerely apologize for any such impressions.
The IP:- 82.37.223.141, that wrote the stuff over Anna's t/p, has been blocked multiple times by different sysops, for being exploited by a Long-Term-Abuser (thus the acronym, LTA) and if you bother to check Anna's t/p history, the post that you cited was immediately reverted by another admin.
The original user-name of this (ab)user was VoteXforChange (thus the acronym, VxFC) who got site banned in a short time and resorted to harassing random users by hopping from one IP to another. You will see that the first block of the above IP mentions and wiki-links the LTA case, but the latter blocks merely drop the name and move on.
Specific behaviors of the LTA and miscellaneous ways to identify him are documented in ample details at WP:LTA/VXFC, which also sheds some light on his blatant lying in order to foment some drama. At any case, the page ends with:- Do not engage in their discussions. Do not feed the trolls. Simply Revert, block, ignore. You can probably understand the severity of their harassment in light of the fact that the ArbCom was compelled to contact WMF, regarding dealing with him.
Thus, I requested you to not facilitate a long-term-harasser in a discussion about harassment and thus, remove the diff or per our proxying policy, take responsibility for the contents.

Very nice job. I've did some c/e and minor expansion. Please check my edit summary, I understand this can be a bit controversial: [1] and [2]. I am all for restoring it, but we need a quote for that; I've read the sources and unless I am missing something it's an OR that is at best slightly implied between the lines. Of course, in reality, this claim is likely correct, at least as one of the factors, but we can't say this without a source that, well, says exactly this. Piotrus You know I don't care. :) I am positive I read it, but it may well have been in one of the sources I rejected as not necessarily a RS. It doesn't really matter in the great scheme of things as much as having an article on them both in English. I appreciate your taking the time to work on both of them and find some additional links and sources and fix the spelling (that conjugating nouns thing always throws me). The Letters volumes are the major subject of Stec's thesis, so will work on this more tomorrow. Glad you found info on Hawelka too. I've added two items to the JY talk. I doubt google search domain helps much; the reason you couldn't find anything is likely because of Declension issues (I fixed this in the articles for a few names; see the spelling correction I made in [3] through in this case, I am unsure what declension could have produced that, might have been an error in the Polish source, sometimes even Poles are unsure how to declense(?) stuff properly). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:52, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
Piotrus Been kind of crazy today, but I did find the ref for because she was a woman. "Chciała objąć katedrę psychologii doświadczalnej na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim. Odmówiono jej. Miejsce zajął ktoś mniej wybitny, ale dysponujący właściwą płcią. Rektor był głuchy na głosy protestu płynące z europejskich uczelni." Oh, and even better this indicates that it was Joteyko's belief that her refusal was because of "polskich sferach naukowych niechęć do kobiet-uczonych" and her unusual private life „ogólnie przyjętej normy” życiu prywatnym bohaterki; jej długoletnia przyjaźń z Michaliną Stefanowską a później Marią Grzegorzewska budziła wiele podejrzeń i kontrowersji." pp=127-128 SusunW (talk) 21:48, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

Very interesting article (second one). The first one certainly allows us to say that a man was hired instead, but not that she was rejected for the same reason. The second one is notes that some consider this to be an unbiased decisions, others (herself) disagree, and then it seems that the article's author suggests this might have been due to controversy about, reading between the lines, her possible involvement with LBGT. I'd suggest saying something like this in her bio (leaving this speculation out of other articles), "with some, including Jotyeko herself, suggesting this might have been because of bias against her gender, or rumors about her persona life." Ping me if I forget in few days and I'll assess both articles as B-class for WP:POLAND, I am pretty sure they are GA-level quality anyway and I assume you'll be nominating them soon? Piotrus yes, the plan is ultimately to nominate them both for GA, but I will probably have to space them out a bit, as I already have 1 nominated. The only article I find that mentions anything about awards is this one. It's a Polish journal and authors, but written in English. See the last sentence of the first paragraph on page 273. It's not footnoted, so no way to know which source it came from. None of the other bios mentioned it at all, which seemed weird to me. SusunW (talk) 03:51, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
Right, hard to figure that out. She does not have an article in PSB (at least going by a quick glance at User:Piotrus/List of Poles/Grodecki-Hoscki; through this list is not updated anymore so there's a tiny chance she got covered by a recent supplement or such). Good to see you back Doc This is a tough one. Looked everywhere I know and find nothing that says anything except to say she played in this film or that film, or was a famous Argentine actress. No indepth articles at all??? Lots of photos, autographs too and she played with big name artists, so it's really weird. Then I ran across this, Diccionario de actrices del cine argentino, 1933-1997 She's in it, but I don't have access. There's copies of it in the British library system, or there is always the Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request Wish I could have been more help. Sorry. Interesting new WiR member

@ScoutHarris and Ipigott: this is a tough one, which is so odd because of her prominance. I find photos of her and the Equal Suffrage League, but apparently they are all in the collections of the Virginia Historical Society, The Valentine, or the Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries and every one I have found contains the licensing mark not for commercial use. I searched archive.org, newspapers.com, newspaperarchive.com, Alexander Street Press (Women and social movements collection), but found no contemporary photographs. (It is weird that we have no historic photographs of Richmond in commons, but maybe they are all bound by that no commercial use of the Virginia Historical Society?) Finally paydirt at Hathitrust on page 258 of this Public Domain book is a photograph of the sculpture by Harriet W. Frishmuth. Hope that helps, and welcome aboard ScoutHarris. Your licensing tag will be {{PD-US-not renewed}} I checked at copyright.gov for the copyright holder E Griffith Dodson as a title, name, and keyword but each returns "Your search found no results. Refer to search examples, check spelling or try another search type." Indicating that the copyright was not renewed. You'll need to add that statement to the information section on the upload. ScoutHarris the date is the date it was published, not the date of creation of either the sculpture or the photo. Thus assuming you have chosen upload on your task bar and the commons wizard, in the question where did you get it, put [https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39015027788580&view=1up&seq=278 Dodson, E. Griffith. (1938) The Capitol of the Commonwealth of Virginia at Richmond: Portraits, statuary, inscriptions, & biographical sketches. Richmond, Virginia. OCLC 3040313, p. 258] and on the next page, in the date, click on the pencil and just type 1938. That will have to occur if we ever meet up, somewhere other than Yucatán, Rosiestep. No such thing here. We have a forum where people are looking for "things from home" and it always comes up, but in 12 years, nada. Strawberries, yes, rhubarb, no. But, I have adopted local ingredients for some different flair to my repertoire, green mango, orange mango, sour orange meringue, coffee and xtabentún cream (it's an anise liqueur), pineapple and avocado. SL93, it isn't actually an obituary, but rather a transcription of the Social Security Death Index Master File. I am pretty sure it is him, but there does not appear to be a way to clip it. I was reviewing recent drafts in articles for creation and came across Julia Dorsey, a suffragette, and wanted to bring it to your attention. It's not really my field, so I am not sure of her notability. Thsmi002 (talk) 00:08, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

Thsmi002, this is a tough one. There is very little known about African American suffragists and ones from this early are virtually unheard of, so if information could be found, it would be notable. Unfortunately, I am finding very little. The Linthicum biography is confusing[6], it says she and Ignatius were in DC in 1877, when they signed the petition. (She signed as Mrs. Juila [sic] Dorsey, so she was already Ignatius' wife at that time). It then says they married in Boston in 1883, of which I can find no record, and the cited source says "Massachusetts Vital Records 1911-1915"? I checked vital records in Massachusetts and find no marriage records for I or Ignatius Dorsey, and nothing for Dorsey/William at all. The census that Linthicum citeslines 23-24 shows an Ignatius and Julia (both mulattos), but how do we know this is them, as there is another census taken the same day, also for D. C. that shows a Julia Dorsey (black) who is divorced.[7] In 1900, there is a Julia Dorsey (black) who is living with William and Mamie Pattersonlines 65-74, who were the parents of Frederick Douglass Patterson and whose autobiography (which I cannot access) per this says when his parents died, he was raised by a family friend, "aunt" Julia Dorsey, in his parents home. She is probably the same Julia Dorsey who died on 13 or 14 February 1919 in Anacostia, D. C.[8][9] and it makes sense that she was buried in Texas because Patterson and his sister were living there at that time. The death record also says Julia was widowed, which jives with the 1910 census.[10] The birth dates on all of these records vary, but that was not uncommon for someone born in the time period, especially if they had been a slave.
Anacostia, was a later name of Hillsdale, D. C., which apparently Ignatius bought into sometime between 1874 and 1883,[11] but probably in the earlier period as his home burned in 1880.[12] This is a weird clipping to me, as it calls Ignatius an "aged man", but the census of that year, if the one cited by Linthicum is correct he was 31 years old. The only other thing I find about Julia is a mention in this book, which briefly discusses Anacostia,stating that the signatories to the 1877 document were literate and affluent. I find no other records in archives.org, hathitrust, newspaperarchive.com, etc. Bottom line in analyzing all this is I just don't think there is enough information to meet GNG. I am also not sure how one would sort out the information without original research. If we had access to the Patterson autobiography and something in it told us the Julia Dorsey who raised him was the one who signed the 1877 document, we might have a borderline case, but I am just not seeing that we have sufficient sources for a biography. Thsmi002, I think the information is valuable from a historic perspective and could be merged into either Women's suffrage in the United States#Introduction of the women's suffrage amendment and/or Women's suffrage in states of the United States#South. As I said, very little is known of African American women's involvement so it might be that inclusion of all of the women's names who signed the 1877 document might eventually spur research on them collectively or individually. In any case, inclusion of them in these articles will clearly show that African American women were involved in the movement in this early period and remove some of the systemic bias which has excluded the history of women of color. Oh, I'll grant that German is difficult, but I did at least study it before and can usually muddle through. My skill (actually lack thereof) with French is notorious. Article on Joel Poinsett

Hi, I tried to introduce a phrase mentionning Joel Poinsett's view on the slave system, mostly because of the links with the biography of Septima Poinsette Clark (her fater was a slave in Poinsett's farm). I have seen that you contributed to the Septima Clark article, this is why I am contacting you.I would need your help, because I find it hard to determine exactly how to put a phrase in his bio concerning his positions on slavery (he was a unionist, owned slaves and clearly expressed views about the alleged superiority of white people.) Here is the post I left after my phrase was reverted (alhough I admit there is more need for clarification). As you are probably more familiar with the topic than me, I would appreciate your opinion.
