HP[edit]

Hey Sushant, nice effort!! But I must tell you the article requires some merciless editing from some experienced people. Also required are more citations. Are the pictures uploaded under a free license? I have come online after quite a few days and am not going to be online for the next few days but will try to pitch in where possible. Meanwhile do ask punters like Dwaipayan to help out with the article... Dont submit for FAC yet. — Lost(talk) 18:16, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination for Featured Article[edit]

I wanted to let you know that I have not forgotten about you, but I have been busy with school and other things. For the most part I believe that you have some good things going on with the article, and that it should be ok for nomination to be a Featured Article. I hope it is successful when it is nominated, because I am sure that you have worked hard to make it great. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 22:20, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Texas A&M University FA Nomination[edit]

Thanks for leaving comments at the Texas A&M University FA Nomination. Are there particular portions of the Manual of Style that you feel aren't being followed? We are certainly intending to follow the MOS. We will be happy to fix problems, but we need more guidance and what the problem might be. Thanks. (I also put this comment on the FA page, but I didn't know if you'd be checking it often. I don't mean to nag.) Karanacs 14:01, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

HP FAC[edit]

Hi., thanks for leaving me a note on my talk page. I went thru the article and found loads of comments that i 'unloaded' on the FAC page. If i left a huge mountain load of work on your table, accept my apologies for the same. Kalyan 18:39, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sushant - A comment. Please don't strike my comments once you address them. If you want to differentiate, maybe italicize them but it is much prudent if you left the striking out to me as a means of agreeing to or disagreeig to your changes. Thanks. I shall revert to your changes by tomorrow. Kalyan 14:42, 23 May 2007 (IST)

Sushant - There is no need to apologize. I know you would require to differentiate between comments you have addressed and comments yet to be addressed. I suggest you use Italics instead of striking it off. Kalyan 05:03, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sushant - I shall review the HP FAC comments addressal by tonight and let you know my feedback. Kalyan 07:43, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thansk for the support! We put a lot of effort into it. I am an officer in the USAF. Currently, I'm being evaluated for removal from flight training (kind of a downer), and your support was a BIG boost to my morale and the success of this article as an FA. Once again, thanks! Hi., i was in the airport when i noticed that you responded to my comments and hence left a note on your talk page asking you not to strike-off the notes, that is my prerogative. Instead of using tildas, i signed with my username to ensure that you know it came from me. How is that Vandal? Kalyan 04:58, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sushant, sorry to leave you high and dry with the HP FAC but real life is going through a very hectic period right now. I am the middle of relocating to another state and switching to a new job. GAC[edit]

It does indeed depend on the review of one person, but the rules governing that review are laid out at Wikipedia:What is a Good Article? so it's not like it's totally random. Most of the reviewers are very good at what they do, and if your article is well written will be more than happy to pass it, perhaps with a few changes to meet standards. (If your article does not pass muster, don't be discouraged then either, just study the criteria and try again once you believe it meets them.) --tjstrf talk 10:20, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Your question posted @ Wikipedia talk:Good article candidates[edit]

The answer to your question is both yes and no - yes, it takes just one person to review one article and either pass or fail it, as well as possibly delist a Good Article the person would find wanting. That said, it is expected that the person does follow the Good Article Criteria when assessing the article, and we have the Good Article Review process, involving multiple users per one article, in cases where there is doubt about the appropriateness of the review.
Just another remark - if you are still in the process of editing an article, please do not nominate it. GA Nominees are supposed to be complete articles, i.e. ones that the nominators expects will not require any significant edits in forseeable future. This also needs to be fulfilled in order for the article to clear the "stability" criterium (point 5). Please consider withdrawing your nomination and renominating the article once you are finished with editing. Do also read the Good Article Criteria carefully, making sure the article fulfills them before nominating. PrinceGloria 11:24, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
PS. I have posted a copy of this reply in the general talk page for other users to whom it might be of interest / assisstance.

I am afraid I am not able to review any article at the moment due to time constraints, but anyway I would like to draw your attention to the fact that there is a considerable backlog (over 100 articles) of Good Article candidacies waiting to be reviewed, and that, in general, older articles should be reviewed first. There are six articles in the same topical section as your nomination that have been nominated earlier, with the oldest nomination not reviewed yet posted on May 16. Currently, there is a considerable effort being made to offset the backlog, but still one should expect to wait for a review for up to two weeks (and this has been more or less a standard since the new system is in place). Thank you for your understanding. PrinceGloria 11:39, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Himachal - Chintpurni page[edit]

Dear Himachal collective,

Recently I came across the Chintpurni page in Wikipedia. I was surprised to note that you have have freely used material lifted verbatim from the Mata Chintpurni Devi website - http://www.geocities.com/chintpurni1/index.html - that I have written and for which I assert the copyright. You donot even have the moral courage to provide appropriate citations to the original site in complete contradiction to the copyright policies of Wikipedia. An excerpt frpm this policy is quoted below -

"Using copyrighted work from others All works are copyrighted unless they either fall into the public domain or their copyright is explicitly disclaimed. If you use part of a copyrighted work under "fair use", or if you obtain special permission to use a copyrighted work from the copyright holder under the terms of our license, you must make a note of that fact (along with names and dates). It is our goal to be able to freely redistribute as much of Wikipedia's material as possible, so original images and sound files licensed under the GFDL or in the public domain are greatly preferred to copyrighted media files used under fair use. See Wikipedia:Boilerplate request for permission for a form letter asking a copyright holder to grant us a license to use their work under terms of the GFDL.

Never use materials that infringe the copyrights of others. This could create legal liabilities and seriously hurt the project. If in doubt, write it yourself.

Note that copyright law governs the creative expression of ideas, not the ideas or information themselves. Therefore, it is legal to read an encyclopedia article or other work, reformulate the concepts in your own words, and submit it to Wikipedia. However, it would still be unethical (but not illegal) to do so without citing the original as a reference. See plagiarism and fair use for discussions of how much reformulation is necessary in a general context.

Linking to copyrighted works Since most recently-created works are copyrighted, almost any Wikipedia article which cites its sources will link to copyrighted material. It is not necessary to obtain the permission of a copyright holder before linking to copyrighted material -- just as an author of a book does not need permission to cite someone else's work in their bibliography. Likewise, Wikipedia is not restricted to linking only to GFDL-free or open-source content.

If you know that an external Web site is carrying a work in violation of the creator's copyright, do not link to that copy of the work. Knowingly and intentionally directing others to a site that violates copyright has been considered a form of contributory infringement in the United States (Intellectual Reserve v. Utah Lighthouse Ministry). Linking to a page that illegally distributes someone else's work sheds a bad light on Wikipedia and its editors. The copyright status of Internet archives in the United States is unclear, and Linking to the Wayback Machine, for example, is an acceptable external link on Wikipedia.

If you find a copyright infringement If you suspect a copyright infringement, you should at the very least bring up the issue on that page's talk page. Others can then examine the situation and take action if needed. The most helpful piece of information you can provide is a URL or other reference to what you believe may be the source of the text."

I await you response,

Re:Hello[edit]

Seems you are doing great job with Geological history of Earth. Keep it up! The article has an excellent look. However, it's sad that you won't be able to be much active in WP:India. There is a lack of good output from the project these days. I am similarly pretty busy with real life stuffs, and cannot be in wikipedia much. Anyway, let's hope for the best. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 19:27, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think you have a very professional-looking article here that is very impressive. it is amazing how sic article can be constructed in such little time. I am impressed that you are able to produce encyclopedic quality material that is very rich in content.

I think that one thing that may hold the article back is the fact that there are very few pages in the regular namespace (not including talk, user talk, etc.) that link to this article. I'm sure that if you give it time that many pages will end up linking to yours.

Do not be discouraged if they don't accept your article the first time through. Keep working with it to make it even better for the next time. I have had some difficulty with things of this nature, because the people are very picky, so I felt that you should be aware of this. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 21:12, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will try sometime today to go through the page to see what links need to b disambiguated. It really isn't that hard and you could actually do that yourself, if you know which page the link should refer . If you want to know how to disambiguate, I can give you some advice.
While the page may not be available in other languages, if you are familiar with other languages, you can start to translate the page, and people on the wikipedia for that language can help you translate. I might be able to find some info about this as well. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 12:41, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I did not find but only a couple links that needed disambiguation; one of them I did not disambiguate because it links to more specific terms. Please let me know if you know of any more links that should be disambiguated. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 16:43, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello; I haven't had time to go through the article thoroughly, but I noticed that the sections "Geologic timeline" through "Faults and folds" were unreferenced. You don't need to cite everything, but a reference at the end of large paragraphs would be helpful. All you'd really need is a geology or historical geology textbook, since these sections are basic geologic facts that would be in a typical college-level textbook. There is also a structural or focus issue. This is in conjunction with what hardypants said on the talk page. You may want to start off with the formation of the Earth, then briefly introduce various processes that cause change, and then go through the history. This is another place where a good college textbook will come in handy, because then you can flesh out the geology. As it is right now, the article is thin on geologic events, but the title implies discussion of major geological events. You can use your timeline discussion to frame a chronologic discussion of such events (i.e., in the Paleozoic you could discuss the formation of Pangaea). Right now, the focus of the article is too diffuse: it has detailed discussions of a number of topics, but they aren't always linked together. I think that this is a necessary article and has much useful material; it's just the focus of the article, and what topics are getting emphasized, that are issues. J. Spencer 22:14, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine. Do you have a library nearby? There may be a good book of this type there. J. Spencer 14:56, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was somewhat surprised that you didn't find any images in this article, as there is one in the taxobox. I'm using Firefox; is this perhaps a browser issue? J. Spencer 15:01, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That's OK; like I said, I was just surprised since I'm at that article fairly often. That's why I was thinking it was a computer/browser issue. J. Spencer 14:29, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to inquire about your recent tagging of the SF_Minnesota article as not citing references or sources. In creating the article, I took care to cite documentation for quoted passages and specific information that has been published by SF Minnesota and by third-party sources that work with SF Minnesota. I guess I don't understand what more documentation could be provided. Please enlighten me. Thank you.

Hello Sushant,
Thanks for your comment in Karnataka FAC. I believe, I have addressed your concern. Please take a look. The article size went above 90 KB with all the references in the main article. So in order to reduce the article size, using the summary style approach, we have moved all the references to sub-articles. Also, if you feel any of the claims made in the "History" is not supported with any citation, in either of those sub-articles, please let me know. Thank you. - KNM Talk 15:43, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Geographical History of Earth FAC[edit]

Hello Sushant, I appreciate that you are working hard for the article. But my objections were valid and there are further statements which demand citations. I will mention them explicitly if you want, when I will be free in a few days. As far as FA on HCl is concerned, it was promoted in 2005 and at that time the process was not very strict. I am sure if it is submitted for review, it will certainly be able to draw attention. Bye. DSachan 18:41, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think you are deliberately trying to be brutal. You have decided and so you are doing it. I think you didn't like 'crying for citations' phrase and that is why you are repeatedly trying to mention it. If that is so, I take it back and assume written 'demanding citations' in place of that phrase to let it be more euphemistic. I hope that works now. And by the way, I never said that citations were not required in 2005, but the very fact that this article became FA in 2005 suggests that the process was not very strict regarding citations. If it had been submitted now, I hope objections would have been raised on this issue. Bye. DSachan 12:31, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comments, i have expanded the lead to include a more comprehensive overview of the article as per WP:LEAD, so hopefully that is now up to scratch. As for moving the Importance to humans heading to Importance, it can't be done according the Wikiproject:Fishes article conventions, which state it should come under the 'importance to humans' heading. I suppose the reason for this is that 'importance' is too broad a heading, which would cover the species importance to the ecological systems it is part of; eg importance to its predators, importance in keeping its prey items in check etc, as well as human uses (which the section is only focused on). Cheers Kare Kare 03:48, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ecology is extensively covered in the biology section, although there is not enough research to create an entire ecology section (which would have to include the predators of the species - of which no information is available). In any case, importance is such a broad and useless heading, and such a heading would defy WP:FISH article conventions, which integrates biology and ecology (integrating feeding, life cycle, habitat etc) separately from importance to humans. Importance to humans is covered in all fish FA and GA class fish articles, and such a separate heading allows for fishing, aquarium use, research purposes etc, which is clearly separate from the simple natural history of the species. If there were ecological concerns brought about by overfishing, this would be covered, but as the sand whiting is not at all threatened and no current research indicates ecological imbalance of the species bought about by humans, there really is nothing to say. Cheers Kare Kare 16:03, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So it's OK the way it is? I didn't quite understand what you meant in your last comment. I can see how "importance" could be used as a stand alone category for a small article or stub with little other content, but the article has a fair bit of information, so i hope you can see where i (or the members of WP:FISH) are coming from when we divide the article into the sections that we have. Sorry if i was a bit pushy before, and thanks for what you are doing, i appreciate it. Cheers again Kare Kare 12:03, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome[edit]

Hi there, I'm glad you are helping with the evolutionary biology articles. If you had a minute, could you glance through Introduction to evolution and list on the talk page which parts are hard to understand and could be explained better? That would be very helpful indeed. All the best Tim Vickers 13:47, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, I didn't mean for that to be read in any way apart from a positive note that a problem had been resolved. I'm very happy for you to use other articles as sources and think this new article on the Evolutionary history of life fills a very important gap in Wikipedia's coverage of this topic.
The problem I was dealing with as a potentially serious one and has lead to articles being deleted before. As I understand it, the licence we contribute to Wikipedia under - the WP:GFDL - licences all text as free to be copied and used. However, it can only be copied and used if the authors are credited in some way. Within Wikipedia we do this with the "Edit history" of an article: outside Wikipedia it is done by citing Wikipedia as the sources and enclosing a copy of the licence. When copying and pasting we have to put a link to the article we are copying from - to credit the authors.
I must say this is an rather technical issue and it is not explained very well in the help pages. Anyway, I hope this clears up our misunderstanding. You have my best wishes and I hope you won't hesitate to contact me if you think I can help with anything else. All the best Tim Vickers 15:57, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

At this time I do not feel as if it is my best interest to enter into portals. Right now I am attending the University of Virginia, which leaves me with little free time. I do not edit as much as I used to, and right now I feel as if I should focus on studying. I thank you for your offer, and hope we may be able to work together at a different time.

I didn't add references, merely code to display those already there as superscripts. Of course you can remove the references and the what I added if you like. But leaving one of the two would be a mistake. Rich Farmbrough, 14:58 27 September 2007 (GMT).

Hey[edit]

Hey, nice to meet you. I am an Indian too. I liked you work. We work on so different topics. I work on music related articles. Where do you stay? I stay here in Mumbai. Luxurious.gaurav 18:46, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My pleasure. So what are your interests? Luxurious.gaurav 08:25, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, i came initially to wikipedia to edit India - related articles. But when i saw that there were tons of brilliant editors workin on them, i opted for music related articles. I love ska rock. So i decided to edit Gwen Stefani and No Doubt related articles. And i can now proudly say that there are 8 FA articles of both of them together and almost all the rest are GA. My journey so far on Wikipedia is brilliant, except some racism, everything was smooth.

My interests are:-

  • Geography ( i am quite good at it, my first encounter with geogo was when i memorized all the capitals in the world.)
  • MUSIC
  • Swimming
  • Maths
  • Physics
  • CHEMISTRY
  • And tons of novels. Luxurious.gaurav 13:02, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, racism is...i am treated badly or even abused by some "so called superior" country people, only because i am an Indian. Things like "Bloody paki" and "Black dog" are often told. Some people talk nicely in the starting, but when they discover that i am an Indian, they boycott me. But it's ok. I take inspiration from Shilpa Shetty. I am currently very busy with L.A.M.B, but i will visit portals and review them. Luxurious.gaurav 07:03, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Those were user-id people. They just come to wikipedia for vandalising it. And when i stopped them, they started blurting out such things. But i have learnt to live with all this. I am proud of my nationality, and that's what matters to me. So it's OK. And tell me, what do you do? By now you must have realized i am in 10th. I am so crazy, i sit on net when i am appearing for my boards! Luxurious.gaurav 14:42, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, studies are going on well. I hope to get quite good marks. And are you in CBSE or ISCE? Luxurious.gaurav 07:08, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What a mega bad luck! I am in ICSE. You must be in DPS is suppose?. We could have exchanged so many talks if we shared the same board. Well..so prelims coming up? Luxurious.gaurav 17:11, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Check here:-http://www.cmseducation.org/about/syllabus/class_x.pdf Luxurious.gaurav 15:01, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yes! It is in detail. Unfortunately. All the best to you too! Luxurious.gaurav 06:24, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, Just back from giving my geogo exam today. SO what are you working on currently on wikipedia? Luxurious.gaurav 06:27, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was great! So since when you are on Wikipedia? When do you have you prelims? Luxurious.gaurav 06:33, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Actually even i belong to Delhi. I never stayed there, but my parents are from Delhi. My dad works in ONGC so i had to live in many places, once even between a jungle in Assam! So now i have ended up in Mumbai. Luxurious.gaurav 06:40, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Now i have to go. Tomorrow i have my English exam. Really need to score, or else my wikipedia time will be cut down by my parents. Chalo Bye! See u soon. Luxurious.gaurav 06:48, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately no! 4 more to go. They will be over on the 13th. Luxurious.gaurav 05:27, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Yeah they are. I was very enthusiastic in the starting, that i will do verryyy well. But the moment a paper goes bad, your whole mood goes off. Luxurious.gaurav 15:14, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I hope this should not sound like boasting, but i do quite well in all subjects, except english. ICSE English is quite high class and tough to score. Luxurious.gaurav 16:05, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah bro! Wikipedia is making me very formal on the net! So tell me..Any plans of IIT? You are blessed wid maths n science, so i am sure you must be looking for to it. And yes, i had a name change. I was tired of my old name and i hated it! Indianescence 05:41, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think even i will go for engineering. Then i have plans of going to U.S for M.S. I am not very firm on this decision so it may change. So you go for any classes for tenth? Indianescence 13:19, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well yes! There is a brilliant Classes here. It's called Sinhal Classes. Here almost everyone joins it. It's really good. We have to join the classes because our school teachers are VERY bad. Indianescence 11:01, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're right. But i don't fear, coz i didn't hurt a wikipedian. But the bottom line is that you're right. And yes! Even i will be reducing my wiki time becoz my classes exams are coming up and i have to do well or else wikipedia will become history in my life! Indianescence 15:32, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, not atually. She thinks that i am doing something constructive, not like other people who waste time chatting and gossiping. So my mom is kool about it. But my dad becomes furious if the net bill comes too much! Indianescence 10:55, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About one citation per paragraph is the preference. The information had to come from somewhere. Just cite where. LaraLove 22:00, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The text I deleted had an interesting history, these sections were added to several articles by the author of the article on Evolutionary theory of sex and the now-deleted article The Principle of Conjugated Subsystems. This guy is the son of the Russian biologist who wrote about this and is keen on promoting his father's work, which is very little-known. I removed a lot of this after the deletion discussion, but some still crops up occasionally. Where did you find this material? All the best Tim Vickers 04:08, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Hi Sushant, I am Sarvagnya. Hello. Great work you're doing on Himachal Pradesh articles. I am not sure if you're aware of this discussion on the India talk page. It is quite an acrimonious discussion with some history.. so let me give you the gist. There have been concerns for a long time now that the pictures on the India page do not adequately treat the diversity of cultures found in India. After much discussion and bad blood, we've decided to try out a 'rotation' system where pictures from across the country will be rotated at regular intervals so that diversity (something at the very heart of India as a nation) of India is addressed satisfactorily.

Would you be able to help us in this regard? Can you put together a collection of good pictures related to Himachal Pradesh? The pictures dont have to be "Featured picture" quality, but they should be worthy of going on the India article. Please use your discretion. Please try to find pictures that are "clear" (hi-resolution) and/or "extremely relevant/notable" atleast at the state-level if not at the national level. And while you're at it, please try to find atleast one picture each for all the sections in the India article (History, Geography, Culture, Demographics, Politics etc.,.). And if you're knowledgeable about any other states(neighbouring perhaps), I'd be grateful if you could make a collection for those states too. We arent looking for dozens and dozens of pictures but just a few(even just one or two) for each category i mentioned above. In short, the very best pictures you can find for your state. If you need further clarification, please ask. Thanks. Sarvagnya 05:34, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note. I added a tag to something that you added. Tintin 12:33, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, the problem with that line is Bhupinder Singh was born only in 1891. The Maharaja of Patiala at the time was his father Rajinder Singh (see the genealogy at http://www.uq.net.au/~zzhsoszy/ips/p/patiala.html ). So the statement that Kitchener insulted Bhupinder Singh has to be incorrect - either Kitchener (it is unlikely that he was in India in 1891) insulted someone else, or, more likely, the year is wrong. Tintin 12:49, 30 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for being late to get back on this. Looked around and found this in Lala Amarnath  : Life and Times by Rajinder Amarnath (ISBN 8121903117 Parameter error in {{ISBN}}: checksum) pp 82-83, which in turn quotes from The Magnificent Maharaja by K Natwar Singh which is a biogrpahy of Bhupinder Singh :

Maharaja Rajender Singh of Patiala (father of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh) was the first Maharaja to engage English cricket professionals to coach in Patiala. He had the top of a 8,000 ft high mountain in the Simla hills chopped off to create the highest cricket ground in the world which is still in use. He, on the occasion of his cousin, the Maharana of Dholpur's birthday, presented with the hill station at Chail, with all the buildings recently erected and furnished at a coast of several lakh rupees. It was like Kind Edward VII gifting Sandringham to one of his European cousins. Fortunately the Viceroy intervned and asked Dholpur not to accept Chail as a birthday present

Some from this it looks like it was Bhupinder Singh's father who built the ground (in which case the year could be correct but the name wrong). I'll post here if I find more. Tintin 01:20, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that Featured article text would be roughly the same size, but I now realize that taller featured images will recreate imbalance. I suppose that at worst we can adjust Did you Know a needed (even if we do switch a box on a monthly basis, it's not that bad, is it?), or simply revert to the original and I won't touch it anymore. Boromir image[edit]

Just curious why you felt the new image is a better image? Elphion (talk) 18:17, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, (1) the image you replaced is pictorially a much better image (the information lost is certainly not compensated by the higher resolution of the new image), and (2) high-resolution makes fair use of copyrighted images harder to establish. I would vote for restoring the previous image. Elphion (talk) 14:27, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'm no expert on free-use. I do see a lot of verbiage in free use justifications about keeping the image limited to a size "necessary to illustrate the article" -- which your image certainly exceeds. If that truly is not relevant, I withdraw that objection. I still think the other image is more "illustrative". Elphion (talk) 15:03, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
