February tournaments

Hey, hope you are good and healthy. ;) The tournaments for women teams start in about two months. Should we have a list (or similar to keep track) to see if everything is complete and created? Kante4 (talk) 10:06, 18 December 2021 (UTC)

Hey Kante4 Doing well - mostly tired with uni and work ;0 That would be a good idea. I hope I will be able to help out as I have exams starting mid-January :S --SuperJew (talk) 15:49, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
Good luck of course. Maybe we can write down the articles/tournaments that will be played. Kante4 (talk) 16:13, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
(Started replying earlier, but it must've not posted) So the tournaments we (potentially) have:
Let me know if there are any I've missed ;) --SuperJew (talk) 21:52, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
@Kante4: Forgot to tag. --SuperJew (talk) 18:36, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
The 2022 Arnold Clark Cup is already created. Will have a look for the others during the holidays. Kante4 (talk) 20:27, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

So we have created already:

Will add them here when i find info or they get created. I should be able to look at it today/tomorrow. Kante4 (talk) 08:04, 10 January 2022 (UTC)

@Kante4: So the 2022 Algarve Cup is set to go and schedule has been released (sad Australia won't be in it in the end). I'll add the schedule etc. later after my exam if no one does it before. --SuperJew (talk) 08:54, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
Nice and it is already February, forgot that. I can do it later on if i get time. Kante4 (talk) 09:23, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
Fantastic Kante4! Wonder when they'll start releasing squads. I'll try to be on it, but it's a pretty crazy exam period rn IRL :( --SuperJew (talk) 06:26, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
Wait, trying to check now: Sweden will release on 8 Feb. Can't see any other scheduled dates from the other associations, but I guess that's around the release date --SuperJew (talk) 06:33, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
The Pintar cup will also be played (will create it now) per this. Kante4 (talk) 13:50, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
@Kante4: Great! I just found this about a tournament in Malta with Malta, Sweden, Slovakia, and Austria. --SuperJew (talk) 14:08, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
Awesome. Can create it in a couple of minutes if you want or you can. Kante4 (talk) 14:18, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
Wait, that article is about the tournament a year ago. Kante4 (talk) 14:28, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
You are right, I missed that. Was misled by this tweet. Seems from Karl's tweets the tournament in Malta is TBC still and only 3 teams. Sorry --SuperJew (talk) 14:31, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
No worries. Kante4 (talk) 14:33, 6 February 2022 (UTC)

Created also 2022 Pinatar Cup squads and added Hungary's squad :) --SuperJew (talk) 15:35, 6 February 2022 (UTC)

Added also Czech and Iceland squads to 2022 SheBelieves Cup squads. Should probably get back to studying properly for now though :S --SuperJew (talk) 20:09, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
And all squads pages created; just need to finish filling them up :) --SuperJew (talk) 13:37, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

@Kante4: Okay, so I've seen confirmation from people that Malta International Women's Football Tournament is going ahead with 3 nations: Malta, Moldova, Morocco (3 matches: Feb 16 Malta v Moldova, Feb 19 Morocco v Malta, Feb 22 Morroco v Moldova) and Turkish Women's Cup will be contested by six nations: Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Venezuela (fixtures here, Ukraine squad). Will try and find more official info now. --SuperJew (talk) 19:49, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

Here we go: Ukraine Turkish Cup squad announcement, Venezuela announcement of Turkish Cup. Can't find anything official or semi-official about Malta :( --SuperJew (talk) 20:05, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
Will take a look later. ;) Kante4 (talk) 16:04, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

A lot of squads also here if that helps. Malta tournament seems confirmed here. Kante4 (talk) 18:19, 12 February 2022 (UTC)

AFCON 2021 Squads

I understand entirely what you're saying with regard to 2021 Africa Cup of Nations squads, and Ghana's list in particular. The problem is that what you are suggesting would create inconsistency with the organization of the lists in the article, which is not ideal. I have opened a discussion on the talk page for the article to try to reach a consensus on this. As far as individual lists on individual national teams' pages are concerned, consensus holds that they be organized by position, as there are countless examples of such. I am interested in other ideas, though. Anwegmann (talk) 20:48, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

@Anwegmann: Replied on the talk page, where the discussion should be centralised. In future, there is no need to list on both article's talk page and my talk page, especially if you tag me on article's talk page. --SuperJew (talk) 06:42, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
Easy does it. I was just trying to keep you in the loop in good faith. Anwegmann (talk) 16:04, 7 January 2022 (UTC)

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

Hello again, Diannaa here. Once again you've copied boilerplate text, this time into 2010 AFC Women's Asian Cup squads. Regardless of whether or not you consider it to be standard text, attribution is required. If you could please provide attribution when copying from one Wikipedia article to another by stating in your edit summary where you copied it from, that would be perfect. Please see WP:CWW for further details on how to do it if you're not sure. Thank you, — Diannaa (talk) 21:19, 29 January 2022 (UTC)

Romanian diacritics

Hello, I want to note that you're moving Romanian and Moldovan biography articles to the wrong diacritics. Ţ ţ Ş and ş are never used in Romanian. For example, on Violeta Mițul's case, there are many websites using the correct diacritics of her name [1] [2] [3] [4]. If any source uses Ţ ţ Ş and ş for Romanian, it's wrong. The reason why Romanian diacritics are so often written incorrectly is due to a former software error, you can read more about it here [5] [6]. Super Ψ Dro 20:54, 21 February 2022 (UTC)

@Super Dromaeosaurus: As I noted in the edit summary, my source for moving the pages is the official site of the Moldovan Football Federation. I would assume they know which diacritics to use. --SuperJew (talk) 21:00, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
Unfortunately, Romanian-language sources also commonly write the wrong diacritics. Here you have some examples from major Romanian newspapers: [7] [8] [9]. This issue extends to serious and official affairs such as passports [10]. Still, officially, the Romanian language does not use Ţ ţ Ş and ş but Ț ț Ș and ș. There are no Wikipedia articles with titles in Romanian using Ţ ţ Ş and ş, all are always moved to Ț ț Ș and ș. Super Ψ Dro 21:10, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
@Super Dromaeosaurus: I see. That is extremely bizzare, especially in official documents :O Thanks for the information - a very eye opening piece for the beginning of the day. --SuperJew (talk) 06:11, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

Template:2019 National Women's Soccer League season has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the entry on the Templates for discussion page. Hhkohh (talk) 06:53, 10 April 2022 (UTC)

@Hhkohh: I don't see a reason cited on this. Why are you nominating it for deletion? Also I suggest you calm down a bit with this mass deletion. And if you are nominating due to the template being able to be imported to an article and transcluded, first import and transclude them and then nominate for TFD. --SuperJew (talk) 07:03, 10 April 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for pinging me. This discussion is included many templates, and I will merge these templates into a discussion later Hhkohh (talk) 07:07, 10 April 2022 (UTC)
Also, the correct TfD process is nominate first, then subst. Hhkohh (talk) 07:16, 10 April 2022 (UTC)

2022 ACL

Note that if YFM lost match today, YFM will go to runner-up, and their points is 6 while comparing runners-up ranking. So MCY did not eliminate for now Hhkohh (talk) 13:08, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

@Hhkohh: Thanks, I just realised that now. Though with 1-1 and 10 minutes to play, it's highly unlikely --SuperJew (talk) 15:41, 1 May 2022 (UTC)

2022–23 in Australian soccer

I have begun 2022–23 in Australian soccer, but as there are only matches at this point for the U-17 Women's World Cup it is a pretty bare article, and probably needs to be beefed up at this point to avoid possible speedy deletion on the grounds of WP:TOOSOON. Can you review and help ? Matilda Maniac (talk) 03:47, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

I think it's okay right now, as that's the info available. Worst case we'll draftify it for a couple of months. --SuperJew (talk) 07:22, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

Congrats

Your GK prancing around actually worked ahahahaha. Now try to keep the World Cup winners curse going. Nehme1499 20:59, 13 June 2022 (UTC)

everyone is in uttter shock that we made it ;) Now we have France and Denmark... sounds familiar --SuperJew (talk) 05:48, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
Congrats on your country qualifying, Aussie do have a very tough group that they finished 4th in last time around... Good luck! Mwiqdoh (talk) 16:02, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
We indeed know what happened last time ;) Hoping that we might do a bit better this time round... hopefully our familiarity with Qatar will give us a bit of an edge, but not holding out high hopes --SuperJew (talk) 19:30, 18 June 2022 (UTC)

Fixing dashes using a script

This is something you are probably weren't aware of: in this edit where you made the dashes to their normal size, the script turned the two dashes in the Soccerway template to a single longer one which does not work when you click the link after the edit was made. The same thing happened to me with this edit which made me aware that sometimes things don't go according to plan when submitting and something wrong goes unnoticed for a while. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 17:14, 25 August 2022 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Iggy the Swan: ideally, the Soccerway template should only include the number. This way we avoid potential problems with scripts. Nehme1499 19:27, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
@Iggy the Swan: Didn't notice that. Thank you! --SuperJew (talk) 19:44, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
That is a good point to consider @Nehme1499:. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 19:45, 25 August 2022 (UTC)

Wait until the end of the game. Wikipedia is not a live score service.

Your actions will only encourage others to treat Wikipedia as a live score service, which it is not. Matilda Maniac (talk) 06:33, 11 September 2022 (UTC)

No problem updating that match went to extra time. Apologies for the score update - you are correct. --SuperJew (talk) 06:38, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
Posting that the match went to extra time when it was still playing, is still treating Wikipedia as a live score service, which it is not. When I have more time I will find the relevant WP:FOOTY discussions on this. Matilda Maniac (talk) 06:42, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
I am well familiar with the discussions. Updating information such as crowd, referee, or aet is fine as it won't change like the score can. --SuperJew (talk) 06:44, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
Off topic — or to be precise the topic you just deleted from your talk page — I have sent a message to User:FormalDude who has been appointed as mentor of Nzs9 to provide some guidance on behaviour. Matilda Maniac (talk) 09:41, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
Cheers, I also requested help at WT:FOOTY --SuperJew (talk) 09:42, 11 September 2022 (UTC)

DYK?

Hello, have you thought about nominating Anton Tohill and the father/coach connection as a "hook" for the "Did you know" section on the Main Page? Something like: ... that Collingwood coach Robert Harvey gave Anton Tohill his AFL debut having earlier played against Tohill's father in the International Rules Series? --Gaois (talk) 23:46, 15 September 2022 (UTC)

@Gaois: I did not think of that. That's a good idea! Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with this process. Could you help me out with it? --SuperJew (talk) 05:51, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
And thank you for the additions to his page :) If you could find more about his GAA career before joining Collingwood, that would be fantastic --SuperJew (talk) 05:53, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay. Yes, it's tough to find the way about over there. They seem to have a lot of pages...
Try this. Wikipedia:Did you know/Create new nomination
If that link is working like it is for me then the fields should be:
Article = Anton Tohill
Created on = 15/09/2022 (This was the date you moved it from draft and must be within a week of the date of first publication)
Hook is stated above (or whichever you prefer)
Source for the above hook is The Age
Author = You
Reviewed = Ignore this. Per point 5 of WP:DYKCRIT you are exempt from having to review another nomination if you have less than 5 submissions (which it sounds like you do).
Based on the two that I previously submitted, the nomination should then appear on the article's talk page so that makes it easier to access. I'll check if there is anything more to add to his career but, since he seems to have swapped sports just after turning 16, there probably isn't much. --Gaois (talk) 22:02, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
Thanks Gaois. I nominated it :D --SuperJew (talk) 18:13, 20 September 2022 (UTC)

Hannah Keane draft

Hello SuperJew, I’m new to WP and wondering if you can help me. I’ve put together a draft article of Hannah Keane and it’s waiting for review. Could you review and let me know if you see anything obvious that would get it declined? Or let me know if the COI (since I’m her dad) is too much of an issue to get it approved. I’ve publicly announced the COI. If you wanted to take over writing and publishing the article if you are so inclined I would have no problem with that. Thank you. Dhkeane (talk) 09:54, 24 September 2022 (UTC)

I have done some copyedit, largely de-emphasizing high school and college football information, and some work on formatting, links and references. Articles may stay in draft space for quite a while because of the backlog (hopefully gets finished and through before the end of the current ALW season). Matilda Maniac (talk) 12:04, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
I'll have a look when I have some time :) --SuperJew (talk) 22:04, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
Though I'm not sure if this will pass GNG. What do you think Matilda Maniac? --SuperJew (talk) 22:05, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
Responding to the both of you : The article needs more information on each of the clubs she has been to, at least 1-2 more sentences with appropriate referecnes. The standard now exceeds many of the Stub articles for A-League women players, and if she has a stellar year at United, generating further coverage that can be used, it should be enough. Unless the bar is raised to the GNG standard for a male player; noting that some editors with the previous male-centric paradigm used to successfully argue that the W-League was not fully professional (which was a GNG criterion relating to the notability of the male league people were playing in), and therefore no player from the W-League - which would have included Sam Kerr before she went to Chelsea - could meet the guideline. The fact that the main editor to now has a COI (whether declared or not) could still be an additional impediment. Matilda Maniac (talk) 23:51, 24 September 2022 (UTC)
Thank you both for your help. I will make the suggested changes and we will see if it passes GNG.

DYK for Anton Tohill

On 17 October 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Anton Tohill, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Collingwood coach Robert Harvey gave Anton Tohill his AFL debut in 2021, having played International Rules Series against Tohill's father in the 1990s? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Anton Tohill. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Anton Tohill), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

@Matilda Maniac: Hahaha I'm loving it all! So amazing this World Cup (and really fun here that we have a World Cup with normal times). A few of my friends ate their hat after saying we don't have a chance (including one who supports Germany and is crying all the way home now). --SuperJew (talk) 11:25, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
@Matilda Maniac: How you going mate? I'm so devastated after last night. So close and only a moment of Messi magic and a goalkeeper mistake sent Argentina through, with Kuol so close to making a sensation --SuperJew (talk) 06:43, 4 December 2022 (UTC)
