Please help[edit]

On the articles ‎Isabel le Despenser‎ and Suomen rauhanyhdistysten keskusyhdistys I am not sure what to do. See the talk pages for both of the articles to view my questions. I would also like to know what to do in the future if anything else similar to these situations occurs. Thank you very much!

First, the article with a non-English name should almost certainly have an English name (see the page about naming conventions; there's a link on that page to a page which describes why English names should be used). Your account is too new to rename pages at the moment (there's a 4-day limit), so I'll rename it for you after giving this reply. As for the sources, placing them at the bottom of the article, before a See Also section, is standard (you can just give the heading ==References== at the bottom and move the sources there by hand, or you can get really fancy using the techniques given in the page about citing sources.) Feel free to put {{helpme}} back up if you jave any more questions. --ais523 15:35, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Another help query[edit]

If I am nominating an AfD which has been previously nominated, how do I show that? Wikipedia:Articles for deletion states that "If the article has been nominated before, use {{subst:afdx}} instead of {{subst:afd1}}, and replace "PageName" with the name of the page plus a note like "(second nomination)" for a second nomination, etc. See Template talk:Afdx for details." However, I find the instructions pretty confusing. Can you please explain? Thank you very much! Sue H. Ping 17:44, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Use {{subst:Afdx}} and in the edit summary say (second nomination). There should be instructions in the ensuing box for you to follow. Repost here if you have more questions. Xiner (talk, email) 17:50, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You don't really need to use the templates, you can just reproduce what they would create. Name the AfD page "PageName (second nomination)", nominate the article with {{subst:afd|PageName (second nomination)}}, and list it at today's listing. You can just follow the example of already listed nominations. —Centrxtalk • 17:52, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template for overuse of red links?[edit]

Is there a template for an article that has way too many red links? I've searched through WP:TEM but I can't seem to find it. Thanks! :) Sue H. Ping (talk contribs) 18:22, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • There used to be one. It was located at Template:Redlinks. However, it was deleted as per this discussion; the general opinion was that too many redlinks in a page was not a major problem. PMC 20:54, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hey, no worries. Anytime you need something, feel free to ask. It's what admins exist for. ^_^ PMC 16:33, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How do I keep an eye on a vandal's contributions?[edit]

Hello! I am trying to contain a vandal named DragonX03. He/she has been vandalizing the Naruto plot summaries. Here is his/her talk page and contributions:

Currently, he/she is at the 3rd level warning. However, I want to keep an eye on his/her contributions so I can revert the vandalism ASAP. Is there a way to make the vandal's contributions appear on my watchlist or something similar? Thank you very much! :) Sue H. Ping (talk contribs) 01:49, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There isn't, but you can keep the Special:Contribs link on a subpage so you can check on it regularly. The person may not give you a chance to slap the fourth time, though. Xiner (talk, email) 01:56, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shared IP addresses[edit]

In dealing with vandals using an IP address, how do you know if their IP address is shared? Sue H. Ping (talk contribs) 01:14, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Generally, it's hard to tell, but if they say the same thing, then it's WP:DUCK. Unless it's too heavy, you can't get a range block though. Xiner (talk, email) 01:18, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You too. Xiner (talk, email) 01:26, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello[edit]

I got your message Stephanie. What do you think of the edits on the DEHTMS article?

Hey, Shamus. Your edits are doing good! ^_^ Just wondering, however, why did you change "The current enrollment is 1246 students, 54 short of the intended 1300 student capacity" to "The current enrollment is 1247 students, 53 short of the intended 1300 student capacity"? Is it on the school website? Also, be sure to sign your edits with four squiggles (~). Sue H. Ping (talk contribs) 22:01, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it was me, but I got that from Mr. McCurty's speech to the 8th grade. Also, thanks for showing me the tildes, I had no idea about that. ShamusHand 22:09, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's OK, but you need to have a source for that. See Wikipedia:Verifiability. Are you sure that's the right number? And np about the tildes. :-) Sue H. Ping (talk contribs) 22:11, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, you ought to make a userpage. See Wikipedia:User page. Have fun and make it pretty like mine! Also, you may want use a signature in order to make it easy for people to find your talk page and contributions. If you want, you can use my signature (which I actually got from somebody else). Go to My Preferences in the top right corner and change it. Sue H. Ping (talk contribs) 22:15, 2 February 2007 (UTC)contribs)[reply]
Yeah, I saw yours, it very cool (I hate MySpace too)! Working on my own right this moment! ShamusHand (talk contribs) 22:28, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, and have fun! =D Once again, don't forget to sign your edits! Sue H. Ping (talk contribs) 22:24, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I was having a little malfuction with the signature, anyways fixed it! :-D ShamusHand (talk contribs) 22:27, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's great! You can fix up your user page in your spare time, but for now why don't you be actively editing on Wikipedia? You can join Wikiprojects to collaborate with other editors. For example, I work on the Wikipedia Typo Team and Wikiproject Categories. Browse through the list and join whatever project you want! :) Sue H. Ping (talk contribs) 22:39, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think the number should be changed back, because the School District of Palm Beach County lists DEHTMS on their website as having a 2006-2007 11-day count enrollment of 1246 - what it was befor Shamus changed it. If you agree, then we should change it back. Austinpow 22:23, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Commons POTY identity confirmation[edit]

Thank you for making a report on the page Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Removing and reporting vandalism is a task open to all members of the Wikipedia community, and all users are encouraged to revert, warn and report vandalism. Under the policy WP:VAND, Administrators are only able to block users if they have received a final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalised since that warning was given. We have not been able to block this user in response to your report because it appears this has not yet occured in this case. If a user who has not been warned vandalises a page please ensure they receive the appropriate warning and only report them on AIV if they vandalise again soon after receiving a final warning. Thank you. --Brad Beattie (talk) 23:34, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Recent page patrol[edit]

Hi. I was checking some edits when I came across a user warning you placed on an anon's talk page. I must say I'm very impressed with the work that you've done. If I may offer one suggestion...when I place level-1 warnings (WP:TT says they assume good faith), I use edit summaries like "A note about your edit". When you say "stop vandalizing", that might negate the good faith that you're assuming. Does that make sense?

Keep up the good work. Xiner (talk, email) 04:29, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I do not condone rudeness or stubbornness, so I'm sorry you had to face that. On the other hand, WP:NOT does say that Wikipedia isn't just a collection of random information. Many school probably have gone through multiple mascots; IMO, it is unencyclopedic to include all versions. For the school in question, one is probably plenty enough. So yes, I do believe the deletion was justified. I'm glad you asked, though - accepting our own fallibility is the best way to resolve conflicts. Userboxes[edit]

Why does everyone rip off their userboxes? It's much more versatile to make one like this:

Traveling/travelling[edit]

In a recent edit to the page Louie Knight, you changed one or more words from one international variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For subjects exclusively related to Britain (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. If it is an international topic, use the same form of English the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to the other, even if you don't normally use the version the article is written in. Respect other people's versions of English. They in turn should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. If you have any queries about all this, just ask anyone on Wikipedia and they will help you. Thank you.  – Tivedshambo (talk) 05:43, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Hello![edit]

Hello, Sue H. Ping! Super-Magician suggests that Sue H. Ping not use her Wikipedia talk page for conversational purposes, as she did with ShamusHand. — Super-Magician (talk contribs count) 02:20, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Super-Magician completely understands Sue H. Ping's intentions, but discussing one's own school and district may lead to loss of anonymity. — Super-Magician (talk contribs count) 02:25, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Such a mistake is believed by Super-Magician to be a minor oversight on his part. On the other hand, he is appalled at Sue H. Ping's failure to sign her messages with four tildes (~~~~). — Super-Magician (talk contribs count) 02:36, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Supreme Court of Mike-ness will hold a hearing momentarily to discuss the recent "thoughtless blunders" committed by the user behind alias Sue H. Ping. — Super-Magician (talk contribs count) 02:55, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The decision is in and Sue H. Ping has been granted a full pardon by the Supreme Court of Mike-ness. In other news, Super-Magician has realized that he is now also using Sue H. Ping's user talk page as a base for conversation. As such, he will be terminating this discussion immediately. — Super-Magician (talk contribs count) 02:57, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sue should refrain from using the second-person personal pronoun in third-person conversations. On the other hand, Super-Magician regards Sue's random Spanish-infused messages as quite entertaining. He also bids her good night. — Super-Magician (talk contribs count) 03:13, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Super-Magician thanks Sue H. Ping for the correction she made on his user talk page. He did in fact notice the mistake last night but thought it unnecessary to bring up the issue in further detail for he was sure that Stephanie would ascertain it on her own. This shows him that he was right even though he did actually post about it above. — Super-Magician (talk contribs count) 22:17, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, "nos vemos" contains the first-person plural indirect object pronoun as well as a first-person plural subject, so Sue is once again straying from the third person. Of course, Super-Magician will pardon this mistake because Sue currently needs to review for Propaganda. — Super-Magician (talk contribs count) 22:34, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
