"History of the Ryūkyū Islands" for template heading

Hello, I was thinking about creating a "History of the Ryūkyū Islands" for template heading akin to "File:"History of Vietnam" for template heading.png" for the Ryūkyū Islands (and using Kyūjitai, Shinjitai, and Seal script). I was planning on using Japanese because I can't find any reference for the translation of "History of Ryūkyū" in an Okinawan language. Furthermore, rather than using a Chinese dragon like I did for Việt Nam, I wanted to use four (4) or five (5) various different Ryūkyūan cultural symbols, any suggestions?

Note that I am not planning on replacing the current photograph of the castle/palace, rather I want to place it above it. --Donald Trung (talk) 07:48, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

@Donald Trung: That sounds like a cool idea actually, and in Okinawan it would be "Ryukyu's history" ( 琉球 るーちゅー 歴史 いわり, Ruuchuu nu iwari), and just 琉球歴史 in seal script. The mitsudomoe, shisaa, sanshin, eisaa, and bingata design are a few cultural symbols. Let me know what you come up with! ミラー強斗武 (StG88ぬ会話) 05:15, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
Odd, I didn't get the ping. Anyhow, some creative decisions I've made, I will probably just use one set of Chinese characters and kana 琉球 るーちゅー 歴史 いわり as the Chinese characters didn't change during the spelling reforms and I prefer to keep the text in the dominant Okinawan language rather than in Japanese (so "琉球ぬ歴史" rather than "琉球の歴史"), the seal script on the traditional Chinese seal can indeed just be in Classical Chinese, so only "Ruuchuu iwari" rather than "Ruuchuu nu iwari". The images I have currently chosen are:
Symbols.
Possibly.
I will yet have to check how to position these images behind the Chinese characters as I plan on making them huge. Also one (1) image behind the seal and preferably the images would be visible and see-through.
If you think that you have any better-looking versions of the above image I'd love to see them, otherwise I will start working on the image with my current selection above once I return home next week. --Donald Trung (talk) 22:42, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
@Donald Trung: Hmm is it going to be like a collage? I would suggest the following:
I am planning on cutting out the images by Ecosiaing "Image background remover" and then picking an option like Remove.bg and then cutting out the "main part" of the image, I actually had "File:Seragaki eisa.jpg" as my first choice but because of the way the pixels are I don't think that I can cut the bloke out of it. I can try. Anyhow, what I then plan on doing is writing the seal in red (as the royal seals of the Ryukyuan Kings were printed in red ink) and the Chinese characters and Kana in black. Then I plan on cutting the images out and making it see through. I am planning on putting the images behind the text like the Chinese dragon in the "History of Vietnam" template header. This is why I didn't choose the "File:Mitsudomoe.svg" because it's black, but I will need to check how it will look next to the black characters or put it behind the red seal. In my next update I will show you what I came up with.
I also deliberately didn't pick the Ryūkyū Tsūhō (琉球通寳) because it is a Satsuma-made cash coin while the Sekō Tsūhō (世高通寳) was actually a native Ryūkyūan cash coin ("Made in Okinawa", baby), but if space allows I can add both. --Donald Trung (talk) 08:46, 29 July 2021 (UTC)
@Donald Trung: Ah okay that sounds good, and I can see if I have any personal pictures of eisaa that I can just upload if the pixels aren't good enough on that one. And yes I think the black mitsudomoe behind the red seal would look nice. And yeah I thought the same at first about the coin, but perhaps you could find a picture of the elusive Chūzan Tsūhō (same reasoning, more recognizable)? Let me know how it goes! ミラー強斗武 (StG88ぬ会話) 21:33, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

I've actually managed to find an image of the Chūzan Tsūhō online a couple of years ago... but it didn't have a free license, rubbings actually would be allowed to be imported to Wikimedia Commons as those aren't creative works, but scans are "scans of a sculpture" as coins are considered to be "sculptures".

Anyhow, while making this collage of sorts on my wife's laptop I didn't stop to think that perhaps the image would be "too crowded", but I also didn't see any single image as being "less Okinawan" and thought that removing any component would do the readers a disservice, but looking at the final results in the infobox you made... It feels somehow "too busy". When viewing it as a large image it kind of works, but when viewing it as a small thumbnail it doesn't work as well. I deliberately included the young boy (image courtesy of the government you serve) because the image would feel like it has "one foot in the past and one foot in the future" (with the understanding that "children are our future"). The Shisa is perhaps the thing most people clearly associate with Okinawa and its central place works quite well, but somehow I just "don't see it". The Vietnamese template header works so well because it only combines a single symbol that has been associated with Vietnam and the Vietnamese for millennia, the Chinese dragon. Also Vietnam has had multiple scripts while Okinawa mostly uses Chinese characters and Kana so I thought of combining Chinese and Ruby characters.

I am adding it here in case perhaps an extra pair of eyes (assuming of course that you have two (functioning) eyes) can give a differing perspective. Maybe it does work but I am simply not seeing it because I expected more. --Donald Trung (talk) 19:23, 1 August 2021 (UTC)

@Donald Trung: Oof I definitely saw this a week ago and responded in my head.. but yeah it does seem a little crowded for such a small image, you can't even tell what kind of coins are there besides the shape and color. The mitsudomoe behind the seal did work out nicely though as well as the placement of the shisaa. However, the ruby furigana characters are slightly off, the second long vowel marker in るーちゅー should also be over the 琉球 characters as its all one word, in its current place it looks like it'd be the Chinese character for One (number). Sorry again for the late reply! ミラー強斗武 (StG88ぬ会話) 03:23, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
