Did you see this proposal? Scouting Barnstarn --evrik 19:57, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

WTF?

It wasn't nonsense or vandalism.

Sorry you didn't like what I wrote. 132.241.245.49 05:47, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

(re. this diff) The man died almost 60 years before the event in question. How could he make any comment on it? stubblyhead | T/c 05:59, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

He described what he suspected Americas reaction to an attack would be. 132.241.245.49 06:12, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Yamamoto's line about the sleeping giant, while apt, is probably fictituous. Even if he really did say it, it still wouldn't belong in that article, particularly not in the first two paragraphs. stubblyhead | T/c 08:30, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Automated Vandalism Log

Yeah, it's a new feature of mine that I'm really starting to like. It's totally anal retentive to keep track of every single revert I make, but it's actually pretty useful in seeing what kind of edits I typically misinterpert as vandalism. I've been working on this app for about a week now that lets me sort through recent changes and easily id vandalism, as well as rollback edits and warn users in one click, and I just recently implemented the vandalism log, which it automatically updates (although I have to manually copy and paste the table into my page). Once I get the rest of the kinks knocked out of it, I'll probably make it available for download, so check back on my page in a couple of weeks if you're interested. AmiDaniel (Talk) 09:14, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

I need you help mediating a dispute with another mod

It will be fast, and is very important. I am a vandal, but I will stop and hand over a long list of zombie proxies if only two conditions are met. One, I need a human reponse from a moderator. Two, I want a specific unblock tag I placed on one of my bots talk pages removed. That is all, and if this is done I'll stop vandalising for 24 hours and go to sleep.

Sorry, I don't negotiate with vandals. If you have serious concerns, take it up with an admin, which I am not. stubblyhead | T/c 00:15, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

KNSO changes in Wiki

I have a question, problem on the page for KNSO TV in Fresno. The Department heads in Engineering for the NBC Universal stations have been working on updating the data for all the NBC and Telemundo stations, and I have completed much of the update, but for some reason the coding for the affiliate section is incorrect, and it will not denote the it as Telemundo. Can you give me any ideas on why this could be occuring? Also, we noticed that you changed the NBC Universal back to GE. Any Reason for this? GE does not claim ownership of any stations, they claim ownership of the group, and we are owned by NBC. It is confusing for people and a very big branding issue with my bosses. Long story short, Jaguar is owned by Ford, but no one calls a Jaguar a Ford. Not getting snippy, just letting you know that the bosses in branding are looking to get this correct.

Please feel free to contact me.

IP address

stubblyhead.. I got a message for this IP address, but I'm sorry to say, it is an external IP address for Anderson University; it may even be more broad than that. Anyway, I apologize for any one of the 3000+ students that may have edited the page. Nice job though, keep up the good work.

[1] Thank you for removing that. I went to verify it and instead found a retraction notice. So it was reported, then retracted. Good catch. SchmuckyTheCat 01:14, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

You reverted one small piece of vandalsim, but didn't notice the larger one... --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 19:18, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

  • It was from a different user; the RC Patrol script isn't psychic. -- stubblyhead | T/c

Perhaps better not to use the script, then, as reverting the more reent could cause the older but worse vandalism to go unnoticed. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 19:51, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Your Edit to "R.A.B."

Your edit makes sense- it is before Regulus is mentioned, but you actually REMOVED any mention of "Zwart" meaning Black in Dutch, "Svart" meaning it in Norwegian, and "Musta" meaning Black in Finnish. This is actually some of the main reasons that many people believe R.A.B. being Regualus is supported by evidence- and it should be mentioned somewhere. Besides, now saying that R.A.B. is translated to R.A.Z. in Dutch is really quite pointless, and kind of odd... Emily (Funtrivia Freak) 22:29, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Oh. Sorry. At least it's all there. My apologies! Emily (Funtrivia Freak) 19:28, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my user page. The vandalism was...random, and...weird. Steve Casburn 06:53, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Murderous

Sorry if my brother Murerous has vandilized your page. Actually, he did and thank you for getting him blocked from editing. --Mr.unstoppable 19:11, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Mr.Unstoppable

Well, it was fixed before I ever noticed it. I don't really mind it so much on my own page. It's easy to fix and if I'm pestering a vandal enough that he comes after me, I must be doing something right. I didn't have anything to do with his block, honsestly. I reverted one of his vandalizations, but didn't put a warning on his talk page or anything. -- stubblyhead | T/c 19:58, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

you edited my post about 2 mins ago

could you please put it back as it was not a "test" as you described it, as a matter of fact every thing contained within was acurate, genuine, and above all SINCERE!

thankyou

Welcome to Esperanza

Welcome, Stubblyhead/Archive 1, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member, you might be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee, JoanneB, Titoxd and FireFox. The April elections have begun.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact me via email or talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to be!

Thanks! _-M o P-_ 21:37, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

Watch out!

Old Skool Esperanzial note

Since this isn't the result of an AC meeting, I have decided to go Old Skool. This note is to remind you that the elections are taking place now and will end at 23:50 UTC on 2006-04-29. Please vote here. Thanks. --Celestianpower háblame 20:42, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Da Vinci Code

(the following is a cobbling together of my and M1ss1ontomars2k4's comments from his and my talk pages)

Hi, I saw that you've added {{sprotect}} to the Da Vinci Code's page. I appreciate your desire to stop/prevent vandalism, but merely adding that template doesn't protect the page. Since anonymous edits continued while it was present, it doesn't appear to dissuade vandalism either. If you think protection is warranted (and it may well be; I haven't been following very closely), you really should put in a request at WP:RPP. -- stubblyhead | T/c 00:35, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Hello there! Erm...what does the sprotect thing do anyway, if it doesn't actually prevent nonsense edits?M1ss1ontomars2k4 00:43, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
The template itself doesn't do anything, it's purely informational. Administrators can protect a page and can then put the template up to show that it's been done. You or I putting it there would be like adding Template:test5 to someone's user page--all talk, no action. -- stubblyhead | T/c 00:43, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Ok thanks. But that's boring. ;( M1ss1ontomars2k4 00:45, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Maybe, but at least it's effective. If you really feel that vandalism is a major problem for that article, then by all means put in a request for protection. -- stubblyhead | T/c 00:47, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Request placed. Thx. M1ss1ontomars2k4 00:49, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

El kondor pada

I'm slightly confused by your vote. This is an international encyclopaedia, we have articles on many aspects of many cultures, why would you want to exclude something purely because it is Serbian? Surely if something is encyclopaedic in Serbia, it is encyclopaedic in the UK, or USA, or Canada, or wherever else is majority English speaking. Especially considering it was a reaction to the actions of the UK and the USA. Please read the arguments carefully and I'd ask if you could reconsider your vote :) Thanks! - FrancisTyers 22:36, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

I agree with you to an extent, but I'm still voting to delete. Notability of a topic varies from locale to locale. If the article here on, say, Totnes railway station were translated to serbian and posted there, I expect it would be removed--as well it should be. It has no notability outside of its own locale. -- stubblyhead | T/c 00:39, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

OK, you change your vote to Keep, I'll post the railway station page on Serbian Wikipedia and see if it gets deleted. If it does, I'll change my vote to delete.

First of all, English Wikipedia is considered to be the international Wikipedia, no isolationism here, please. I suspect you think that Serbian people never visit this Wikipedia, and that it is only for the US, Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other English-speaking countries. Wrong. If it was, why would I, a Serb, be here? Are you saying that all Serbia-related articles that are less known to Americans and Australians, should be deleted? What if a student at a US school gets homework about resistance movement songs? Should he go to the Serbian Wikipedia and try to learn Serbian as fast as possible. It's not your fault, it's the school system. They need dumb people to work for them...

Also, there are lots of sources in the discussion, if you had taken the time to read it, you would have voted Keep. Too bad there are lots of people like you, like to vote, but have no idea what they're voting for. Enjoy your democracy. --serbiana - talk 01:42, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

I'll do nothing of the sort. Please don't put words in my mouth, either. If a student were doing research, I certainly hope he would use sources other than wikipedia. Also don't assume what I have and haven't done and how that would affect my decision. Finally, take a good look at what it says at the top of the discussion page: "There is no ballot to stuff, because this is not a vote." I've made up my mind, and I'm not inclined to change it. I'm also not inclined to get into a pissing contest over this, so we're just going to have to agree to disagree. -- stubblyhead | T/c 02:54, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
"If a student were doing research, I certainly hope he would use sources other than wikipedia". You said it all... --serbiana - talk 03:28, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower háblame 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

I got a message from you

Dear Stubblyhead, Today, I found this message when I opened Wikipedia. I had not yet logged in. However, I have never visited, let alone edited the Triangulation page. So the message must have been intended for someone else. I don't exactly know how my broadband provider works and so I'm unable to tell you if anyone else shares this IP address. I always log in before making any changes. Anyway, I really admire and appreciate your constant vigilance on Wikipedia. You're doing a great job!

Yours, --Savio mit electronics 04:31, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

May not have been you, but someone coming from 59.92.39.86 made an edit to that page. That is the only edit ever from that IP, though. Perhaps the cat walked across the keyboard? Regards. -- stubblyhead | T/c

Please undo an erroneous edit you made . . .

Stubblyhead: I wrote the following to Omegatron:

"I was just at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Beat.png and couldn't make heads or tails of the diagram as described. When I looked at the history, however, I realized you had corrected the image once before, but, now, for some reason, someone else has come in and reverted the image to one that does not match the description.

"Can 'we' (i.e., you) either re-correct the image to match the description, or make the description match the image that keeps getting placed on the page . . . and then LOCK the entry so it can't be messed up again?"

Omegatron said I needed to take the matter up with you. So here I am. Will YOU please revert the image to what it was originally and as Omegatron corrected it after someone messed with it?

Please read the description of the image. You will see that, in contradistinction to the description, the sum in your image is NOT blue and the corresponding envelope is NOT red. Whereas, in Omegatron's (and the first/original image) the envelope IS red and the sum IS blue. (Notice, by the way, that the sum and envelope MUST be the second/lower graph . . . because the largest absolute values of the sine waves in the upper graph are only 1; whereas the largest absolute values of the sine waves in the lower graph are 2. When the TWO sine waves in the upper graph coincide (i.e., their values add together), the sum of their values will equal +2 or -2 . . . which are the maximum values we see in the sine waves in the lower graph.)

Thank you in advance for fixing this error!

If you think a change needs to be made, do it yourself. That's the point of wikipedia. If you look in the discussion for the image, however, you'll see that there was a concern the image being unfriendly to those with various forms of color-blindness. Omegatron reverted a fixed version back to the unfriendly one, and I was merely rectifying that. I am incapable of locking anything on wikipedia, and I wouldn't protect this image even if I could. Have a nice day! -- stubblyhead | T/c

homeless/free ride?

isn't there a sentence about vagrants and free ride zones in there?

do you not believe this to be the case?

Justforasecond 00:04, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

if you don't doubt it's true, and i provided a citation, and i can tell you it is true from personal experience, what's the big deal? there's stuff all over wiki that has *no* citations and is highly dubious. Justforasecond 06:51, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
my citation is fine, it mentions vagrants on free ride buses. presumable this is mentioned because the vagrants are MORE COMMON in the free ride area, if it were the same number of vagrants as elsewhere it wouldn't command mention.
here's another, but it is a mailing list so i can't include it: [2]

Of course non-shoppers and non-downtown-employees also get to use the buses free during the times that the program is in effect (6am-7pm). It would have cost too much to try to screen them out. So the homeless get free rides downtown, too. And people who can only see this, and not also see the benefit the program does for the economy of the city, complain. So it was no surprise that, as soon as it was announced in the papers that Silas Cool was homeless, there should come a call to drop the =46ree Ride program, so that _homeless_ people would no longer get free rides, so that our bus drivers can breathe safely again blah, blah, blah.

and another: [3]

day center for homeless men is seriously needed downtown. Right now the library and other public places serve as a poor substitute for this need. Homeless men can't get what they need at the library or riding buses in the free-ride zone all day. Justforasecond 07:19, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Well why do you think they mentioned the homeless if not because they are more common on free buses than on pay? Or what about the homeless riding "all day"? I'd ask you to be reasonable. If we have citations and you consider the statement probably true, don't remove it. Justforasecond 15:52, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

btw Had that edit been made by an anonymous user, I would have reverted it out of hand as vandalism -- anons are valid editors here and this edit was by no means VANDALISM -- especially as you yourself considered it likely to be true. Read up on wiki vandalism. Justforasecond 18:50, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

citation problem

I'm trying to add some sources to Metro Transit (King County). I've added quite a few, but they're not showing up at the bottom. I've put notes in before, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong now. -- stubblyhead | T/c 16:39, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

It's lacking the markup to tell it where to put the references. You need to add something like

==References== <div class="references-small"> <references/> </div>

At the appropriate point in the article. --pgk(talk) 17:32, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Ahh, roger that. I've only ever added citations, not started from scratch. Thanks. -- stubblyhead | T/c

Thanks much. Fortunately, the article in question has been protected by another admin, so maybe we can work now on reaching some sort of consensus instead of getting into a revert war. We'll see how it pans out. -- stubblyhead | T/c 18:50, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Do you need a comment on the article?

Hi Stubblyhead

Really sympathise with what you're going through because NPOV disputes can be very wearing.

I was interested in the article and it is not easy to write a good one about what we in the UK call "public transport" because everyone thinks it is boring. The fact that there are free rides in the city centre is important because not many cities have that. How the policy is working out is therefore potentially notable. There may be one way through the dispute to avoid further confrontation. That is to look at potential reliable sources. That would probably mean the local newspaper(s). Is there an online archive? Perhaps the question of homeless people was mentioned? Perhaps a letter to the paper gave a different view? Anyway, if the idea helps, use it, if not, disregard. Itsmejudith 10:30, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind words. If you've read all the comments on the matter, you'll note that the other party has provided a couple of sources, none of which IMO satisfies WP:V. There's a woman that writes a blog for one of the newspapers here who is a strong advocate for both public transportation and the homeless. I wrote to her asking if she could provide a source from somewhere, but I haven't heard back yet. If you want to voice your opinions on the talk page, feel free. I think we would do well to have more voices being heard than just two. Cheers. -- stubblyhead | T/c 15:29, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
