GA assessment Karmichael Hunt

Hi SpecialWindler - thank you for your message. GA nominations are currently (normally) taking some time to be processed (around a month) because of the lack of experienced GA reviewers. So normally I would not be able to assess Karmichael Hunt for some time. However I had a quick look at it after your request and noted that it met one of the quick fail categories - based on having a clean-up tag. This means it must automatically fail (providing the tag is legitimate). I noted the tag has been up there for some edits and in fact that the article does need a careful proof-read (because it is definitely not ready for GA classification at this stage). Can I suggest that you spell and grammar check the whole article as your first step to improving the article as that will at least remove the clean-up tag. If I can help further please let me know.--VS talk 22:42, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Article

The article Karmichael Hunt you nominated as a good article has failed , see Talk:Karmichael Hunt for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of said article. If you oppose this decision, you may ask for a review. --VS talk 22:42, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey can you read and hopefully up-grade the Sivaji: tHe Boss article to a GA. Many Thanks. Universal Hero 10:47, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

 • It doesn't have a link, and I don't up grade articles. SpecialWindler 07:24, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm In

Hi, SpecialWindler, I saw your ad for WP:RL and I have joined. It is great to finally see a Rugby League WikiProject. If you need any help with the cosmetic appearance of the page or with articles, just give me a ring. Harrison-HB4026 07:40, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

P.S I am sorry to hear that you support Queensland in State of Origin :)

help

{helpme}

I am trying to add some syntax to Template:WikiProject Rugby league.

I am trying to add a peer review section to the template.

I have done that and saved and all seemed well.

When I tried to test it out on Talk:Karmichael Hunt, nothing happened.

It should come up with something like "A request has been made for this to be perr reviewed.

But on Karmichael Hunt it hasn't come up. (I also tried it on Brisbane Broncos, but it didn't work)

The category's supposed to come up also don't come up. I think I've done something wrong.

"old-peer-review" doesn't come up either.

SpecialWindler 10:03, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

It seems to me that the stuff you added is depedant on paremeter, eg you will need small=yes to display some of the text, eg rather than changes the appearence of the template at Talk:Karmichael Hunt.
If you can't figure it out I recommend posting a full description of what you want at WP:VP/T (Village pump tech) so an expert can help.--Commander Keane 10:15, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
Acutally my advice is probably absolute rubbish (I thought the small param was meant to show small text, but it seems it makes the template smaller). Anyhow WP:VP/T is the place to ask.--Commander Keane 10:21, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

help again

helpme

This is probably simple but how do you change text colour in a link.

I want to use a link in a table with a blueish background and it makes the link look weird.

SpecialWindler 10:29, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm afraid you can't change the link colour on wikipedia, it's set by the wikipedia software and the skin in my preferences. Andyreply 10:33, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
Hi, try <span style="color:green">Link</span>. This will produce Link. Replace "green" with the color you want. --KFP (talk | contribs) 10:35, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

helpme

On Template:WikiProject Rugby league, why doesn't {current} work.

Take Talk:Karmichael Hunt, which is my tester. It has the |current=yes| but it comes up with

Karmichael Hunt is a yes player of rugby league.

rather than

Karmichael Hunt is a current player of rugby league.

It also needs to be done for |current=no|

They also need to be put into category's for yes and for no.

SpecialWindler 11:43, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

You're right. Just looking at the template's coding I can see that it does nothing depending on what you set current to, i.e. current=yes does the same as current=no does the same as current=blueberry.
So what I've done is put there current=current so that it says "is a current player".
We will have to request that someone with better knowledge comes and improves that template. I'll see what I can do.
I am leaving the helpme tag for now
Rfwoolf 12:07, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
but thats not what I want. SpecialWindler 12:10, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
I'll elaborate for you: I've done what I can to temporarily assist you - but somebody with better coding abilities will have to come and fix the template for you. I also agree that a category should be created. Seen as I was unable to help you fully, I am leaving the helpme tag up so that somebody else will perhaps come along and assist you. I have also been looking at places to request work from wikicoders so that in the near future they can improve the template. Rfwoolf 12:15, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
OK.SpecialWindler 12:18, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
SpecialWinder, I fixed the temp . The error you were making was that you wrote instead of or if he isnt current write ..--Cometstyles 12:20, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Special...made some changes on page based on your suggestions. Not finished....however if you get a chance can you take a look...maybe now that is cleaned up a bit you will find more <grin>....snoSno2 12:30, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Can someone tell me if this following image is free

No that image is not free, it has a " © All rights reserved". Free images have a creative commons tag insteaad of "All rights reserved", but only Creative Commons licenses that allow commercial reproduction are allowed. • It probably is not free unless you can find somewhere where the creator of the image has explicitly released the image. You can try to ask them if they will release it, though! Take a look at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission which might help you do that. --Strangerer (Talk) 10:09, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

prose

I can't figure how to change these two sentence in the Karmichael Hunt article

Hunt started the 2006 season well, making a deadly combination with Darren Lockyer.
Sentence 1, Paragraph 1, Section "2006"

The peer reviewers say that is very informal "deadly".

effective? dynamic?

What I am trying to say is he and lockyer made a good combination with him.

With Darren Lockyer's move to five-eighth this left some large shoes to fill in the fullback position.
Sentence 4, Paragraph 1, Section "2004 and 2005"

What I am trying to say is that Darren Lockyer moved out of fullback position, Lockyer was a very good player and hunt had some "large shoes to fill" but that statement dosen't sound right.

That sentence makes perfect sense to someone who knows about the Broncos. But I guess they want you to include more information for those that don't: "With (captain) Darren Lockyer's switch from fullback to five-eighth in 2004, there were some very large shoes to be filled in the Broncos' fullback position." The article is about Karmichael, not Darren, so we can't dwell on Lockyer and how he was the best fullback in the game, so perhaps inserting the word "captain" will give an indication.

All of the above refers to the article Karmichael Hunt and refers to rugby league.

Thanks SpecialWindler 07:28, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Not really the intended use of the helpme tag, which is for help with questions about how to edit Wikipedia rather than what to edit Wikipedia, but I'll give you some advice. Both of those statements sound informal in part because they make an opinionated claim. Also note, in the first case the word deadly is used colloquially. At least I hope they didn't actually kill anyone. The second one also uses a colloquialism. Reference works, especially ones that are to be used by people all over the world having learned the language in different contexts, usually try to avoid colloquialisms to avoid confusion.—WAvegetarian (talk) 07:42, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your peer review of Kevin Pietersen. Would you be kind enough to take another look and lend your support here as the article is now heading for Featured Article status.

Karmichael Hunt review

Hey there,

I just got your request today asking me to review this article. I will attempt to take a look at it later this weekend -- alas, you just caught me on a very busy couple weeks, and I haven't made any edits to WP in that time. I'll admit that I don't know anything about the topic nor the sport, but I'll be glad to review it from an outsider's prospective. Thanks for asking me.

I'll try and get confirmation tonight/tomorrow. Did you have a preference for which pic to use? Florrie 12:33, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I noticed you included the Queensland Cup in the template for Brisbane Sports Clubs that I created. If you see the talk page for that template I included what I intended to be some parameters for the template, including only having major leagues as per the Major Sports Leagues of Australia template. While I appreciate your contribution and was even contemplating doing the same thing myself, the danger in doing so is that you'll have all the AFL and Soccer fans adding insignificant local teams in their insignificant local leagues. Something I was hoping to avoid.--Jeff79 00:49, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Yeah man. I want to include the Queensland Cup, because as far as sport in Brisbane goes, I think it is major. But AFL and Soccer fans will add their leagues for "equality's" sake. Maybe that's not such a bad thing after all. But at the time I made the template I just wanted it to show major national leagues.--Jeff79 01:00, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Peer Review

 1. I'm honored that you'd ask. It's my first request.
 2. How did you come up with my name?
 3. I'd be happy to, but I wont't necessarily be able to get to it until later today or tomorrow. As long as that's fine, then sure! BQZip01 talk 16:45, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
Well, I did an insanely detailed review of the University of Oklahoma on the FA page, but I'd be happy to help you too. BQZip01 talk 21:42, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
Working on it right now. Probably won't finish until later tonight, though. BQZip01 talk 21:45, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I noticed that...fixed too. Man you are on TOP of this right now. I didn't even get a chance to change it before you noticed. BQZip01 talk 22:42, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

I couldn't see any other real problems. However, having that "please place picture here" image is really an off-putter. Even the removal of that image might be sufficient for A-class. But you might want to wait for any other responses as well. I'm kinda new to this and would probably trust the opinions of others more than my own. John Carter 22:21, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

 • User:Errabee more or less manages the A-Class review though. S/he may well also comment on it, particularly if you were to request as much. John Carter 22:28, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Re:Wikiproject Biography

I'm uneasy about auto-assessing articles. On many occasions I've rated articles with stub templates Start class. It has to be pretty short to give it a rating that says: any information added would be helpful, and that it's not useful to most readers. Whoever runs the bot doesn't think we need to, or at least I think so or they would have run it. Also, if you're assessing articles for the project you might as well sign up as a member too :). --Psychless Type words! 15:29, 10 June 2007 (UTC) 23:43, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Tux knows that I wasn't mad at you for your suggestion :)
Sorry if I sounded grumpy, someone is being an idiot and is removing our template from talk pages. They think they shouldn't be there if we don't leave comments... Anyways, the template is User WPBiography. Also, sign your name on this page. Your suggestion was a good one, and might still be done. I'm just very angry at this person. Skim through his contributions to see his reasons for removing the template. Thanks for joining! --Psychless Type words! 15:29, 10 June 2007 (UTC) 00:48, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Ok, well the bot that does auto assess stubs puts them in this category: Category:Automatically_assessed_biography_articles. So, I'm assuming that User:Kingbotk is continuing to do this. I just found out about the category and I'm glad that they are put in there. --Psychless Type words! 15:29, 10 June 2007 (UTC) 01:21, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

I've seen that page before, I think, what I didn't know was that we had an auto= parameter, which makes me feel better about the auto assessing. --Psychless Type words! 15:29, 10 June 2007 (UTC) 01:30, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, according to this page they're still doing something. Not enough though it seems. I still see a lot of unassessed articles with a stub template. If you're interested in this you could look for stub categories that User:Kingbotk could go through. --Psychless Type words! 15:29, 10 June 2007 (UTC) 01:46, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
