Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Elmiracityseal.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Elmiracityseal.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it may be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 13:14, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Chamber of Commerce sites in External links[edit]

Re our difference over whether Chambers of Commerce are (generally) good external links (from Chemung County, New York) I added comments at Talk:Chemung County, New York and Wikipedia talk:External links‎. You might want to add to it? Cheers! -- Mwanner | Talk 00:31, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvios in the Elmira, New York[edit]

No, I yanked those sections just because of the copyright violation. It's true, it could have used a rewrite and tightening. Actually, that might be a better approach than dealing with the permission issue: if it's rewritten, then it's no longer a copyvio. Besides, I've never been clear how you do that permission trick-- I think it involves an email exchange or sending a letter. If you're willing to do a rewrite, by all means, revert my removals and then whack away at it. But if you want to go the permission route, look at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. Sorry about the abrupt removal-- copyright violation is supposed to be a shoot-on-sight situation.

Looks like you were probably right about the Chamber of Commerce link. I'll pursue the question as per the suggestion. Cheers! -- Mwanner | Talk 11:37, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Chemungcountyseal.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Chemungcountyseal.gif. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --21:50, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. A tag has been placed on File:Elmiraflag.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused duplicate or lower-quality copy of another file on Wikipedia having the same file format, and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. –Dave | Davey2010Talk 21:46, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. –Dave | Davey2010Talk 21:48, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
