Welcome to the 2023 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2023 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor you should be able to advance to at least the second round, improving your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will move on to round 2. Interesting! I was looking through your page again, and I realized that you don't brag about the many languages you must be fluent in, as many other Wikipedians do with those Babel templates. But I had to conclude that you must be completely conversant in German and Russian at least, and at least able to read a variety of Asian alphabets to do the amazing work you do here. Many kudos to you again! warshy (¥¥) 16:32, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
As always, much appreciated feedback Warshy. I must admit that my language skills aren't that extensive, but over the years I think I've learn techniques of extracting factoids from book references in a number of languages. I work extensively with google translate for some languages, manually copy-pasting sentence by sentence from snippet views across entire pages to construe translatable material. --Soman (talk) 19:05, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
Wow! That is really a lot of very careful, detailed work! But the results are all here for everyone to see. As I've been saying a couple of times already (sorry for the repetition), some amazing work of detailed research over many different languages and cultures. Thank you so much for all you do here! And many kudos again. warshy (¥¥) 21:38, 17 January 2023 (UTC)

Outstanding! But also, look at the wealth of reliable original local/East European sources used. I don't think there are many other WP editors that can produce this kind of work. Look, the list of DYK's on your page says it all, and I am very late to start noticing all these hundreds of articles of your that were used for DYK's. The list is overwhelming, amazing. So again, I am pretty late in recognizing all this, and my apologies for that. But my greated congratulations are in order. Thank you! warshy (¥¥) 00:40, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
Many thanks Warshy. This article presented some specific challenges, as the subject was ill-treated in Cold War Era Czechoslovak histography + having been largely a Sudeten German phenomenon (esp. in its latter period). Robert J. Alexander's work on the Right Opposition talks briefly about how the group suffered as Sudeten German Party rose to prominence, but I don't consider Alexander as WP:RS (for example, Alexander doesn't make the connection Brunn=Brno, he reproduces a typo for MVS as 'LAV' etc.). I think there could be more from the Lovestoneites press from 1935-1938 to add material about the latter phase of the group but unfortunately I didn't have time to revise more at this stage. --Soman (talk) 22:44, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
I think all this is a great display of truly encyclopedic knowledge! Since this seems to be material that you also like, I hope you get some time later to come back and make it even more comprehensive than it already is. Congratulations! warshy (¥¥) 21:07, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

Beautiful! I learned a lot again, since this is an area which I once studied in detail some of aspects of its history, particularly in the 19th century. And the sources! Very nice indeed. Congratulations Soman! warshy (¥¥) 17:58, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
