Please only remove "cleanup" tags if you're sure that you've done the work; in this case, the article was still full of spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, obscure abbreviations, etc. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:12, 28 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mel, I'll try to be careful with the cleanup tags for now on. However, you have also done something to that article that annoyed me. Instead of editing from my version directly, you completely reverted it and then made changes that were almost exactly same as mine. Although I'm happy with the result, I almost feel as if you are taking credit for my contribution to the article. Solarusdude 00:38, August 29, 2005 (UTC)
Sorry; I saw all the errors, and reverted, before realising that most of them had been there before. I'd not worry about stealing credit, though — there's none to be had. Cleaning up articles is generally a thankless task that goes unnoticed by most people. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:22, 29 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking the time to post to the Autoparts talk page after your initial {{d}} tagging. If I hadn't known more about the company, I would probably have tagged it too. I think that Nick is willing to learn and work with the Wikipedia policies and we may well get a good entry if we can steer him in the right direction. --GraemeL (talk) 19:54, 31 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the feedback. When I tagged his article, I was trying to tag all the nonsense articles as they were coming in from the Recent Changes list. When I first saw the article, it looked like one of those unformatted half-baked articles that people often send in and I slapped the {{d}} tag without thinking. When I saw the talk page, I realized that someone was really trying to make an effort to make a decent article and I had a change in heart. Solarusdude 00:23, September 1, 2005 (UTC)

I've completed your RFD for Alluminum; however, I've opposed deletion as I find it an entirely plausible misspelling. — Lomn | Talk / RfC 21:05:24, 2005-09-01 (UTC)

OK, that's fine with me. I didn't know if mispellings were valid redirects. --Solarusdude 21:09, September 1, 2005 (UTC)
No prob! You can check out the list of recommended reasons. The big one that a lot of people forget is capitalization. For example, Cbs probably redirects to CBS (or whatever the actual article is). Cbs itself looks pretty dumb, but it's what comes up when lazy people like myself search for cbs with no caps at all. — Lomn | Talk / RfC 21:52:13, 2005-09-01 (UTC)

Tagging copyvios[edit]

Hi, I saw that you recently tagged Synergy/DE as a copyvio. I applaud and appreciate the effort, particularly since it is often one of the easiest ways to get rid of obvious ads.

Just one quick reminder—be sure to blank the page before you add the {{copyvio}} template, otherwise the copyvio text remains visible on the article page and may be mirrored on external sites.

Keep up the good work. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 19:20, 2 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the feedback. I'll remember to blank the page next time I find another copyvio. :) --Solarusdude 05:25, September 3, 2005 (UTC)

Sugar momma[edit]

As far as I can tell, what the article was was original research/POV on a definition of the term that no-one else uses - at least, some quick research suggests that "sugar momma" is invariably used to mean "female 'sugar daddy'", rather than whatever that article was going on about. I was going to redirect to sugar daddy, but it itself redirects to age disparity in sexual relationships, so I figured it made sense to redirect straight through to that rather than have a double-redirect... and it's a lot less hassle to do a redirect, when there's an option available, than go through the motions of an open-and-shut VFD. Shimgray 20:01, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I saw the message below re tagging Synergy/DE as a copyvio b/c it was an obvious ad. This was not our intention. As "Synergy/DE" was linked to from the entry for Dibol, I simply plugged in our standard product description (from our Web site). It's not a copyright violation b/c we possess the copyright and grant permission to duplicate the information. Could I tweak the information to make it sound less like an "ad"? Please advise. Thanks

Since this is a copywrite issue, I'm not sure if I have the authority to remove the tag myself. I invited an adminstrator, JesseW, to weigh in on the issue. My advice is that it's OK to write an article about your company on Wikipedia, as long as it is informative, non-advertising, and follows Wikipedia's Neutral Point of View standards. Also make sure the language is free of jargon and the context is structured so that a reader who has never heard of your company will understand the article. --Solarusdude 05:31, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

In re: the copyright claim, I'm inclined to give the benefit of the doubt to the person who claims she represents Synergex. Note that she must specify that the information is released under the GFDL; permission to reproduce it on Wikipedia only is insufficient. Given that, you could unlist the article from WP:CP and remove the copyvio notice at your discretion.

That said, if the article isn't improved rapidly I would recommend nominating it for deletion; right now it reads like an ad rather than an encyclopedia article. (You could, in fact, nominate it immediately—that gives five days for someone to brush it up.) The third alternative would be to create an article on the company–Synergex–and redirect/merge any articles about their products there. TenOfAllTrades(talk) 17:53, 16 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ok that's what I'll do then. I'll unlist the article as a copyvio and put an advertisement tag on it. If the article doesn't improve in a week or so, I'll vfd it. Thanks for the advice. --Solarusdude 18:05, 16 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I am an employee at Synergex hoping to establish a credible and informative page about our company and products. I have read the Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations and Wikipedia:Your first article. However, considering our past attempts, before I suggest this article I would like to get your thoughts. Below is what I plan to submit for the article suggestion. Any thoughts and/or feedback? --Kaskinner 04:29, 20 July 2012

Taking flash from the net[edit]

Howdy! I replaced your speedy delete tag on Taking flash from the net with an AfD nomination instead. "Article is a how-to" isn't covered by WP:CSD, so it gets its day in court. Regards, CHAIRBOY () 21:25, 29 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Alright fair enough. I figured it was a pretty obvious delete but an AFD works fine considering it wasn't listed in the Criteria for Speedy Deletion. Solarusdude 02:15, 30 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that it is pretty obvious, and I doubt that it'll survive AfD, but it's definately not speedy material per the current criteria. Cheers! CHAIRBOY () 03:13, 30 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Categories and stub templates[edit]

Thanks for the comment and tip! Looks like I have some work ahead of me!

Merovee Philosopher's Guilde[edit]

I noticed that you added a category. Do you know anything more about this society?

Another question, do you know the origins of the secret societies article? I have noticed it on other sites and that is the only reference that I can find for the secret society at UNCG - Merovee Philosopher's Guilde.MiKellie 23:34, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know much in secret societies. Sometimes when I'm online, I'll modify new articles that are missing minor things like categories or links and then add them in. I'm not really sure if there is a particular person responsible for the secret societies article since the history file shows that a lot of people have contributed to it. I suggest looking through the history and finding the person who entered the particular passage that you're interested in. Solarusdude 02:03, 5 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

grade school math[edit]

The only way I know to get something done is to do it. Maybe you can advise me.

I have heard for...how long, twenty years, thirty years, how dreadful grade school math texts are, and when my kids were in school I got a chance to see for myself. Awful beyond belief! My inclination to use wiki rather than wikibooks is that now many people know about wiki, while I never heard of wikibooks.

I'm imagining some poor kid, bright, computer savvy, caught in one of the many schools where the math teacher doesn't know anything. She goes to wiki, goes to the math protal, and finds something like -- well, like the textbook in the Diamond Age is what I'm dreaming of, though that my be a few years in the future.

I don't see the kid knowing about or going to wikibooks. Rick Norwood 23:28, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for your advice and help. I am in the process of doing as you suggest, though it may take me a few days. Rick Norwood 13:04, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

PhilWiki[edit]

Would it be possible to host a Philwiki somewhere? It seems like it could be a very effective, dynamic guide for staffers and potential hikers. So many websites that are incomplete, or opinionated, while forums are nightmares. Likewise, Philmanac has errors and has to be reprinted with each update. Meanwhile, so much information about Philmont is inappropriate for Wikipedia.

Alternatively, We could start one on WikiCities. Getting editors for the project should not be hard, with so many fan groups in existence. Getting the basic material is not too hard - there are sources available, while Philmont's records are also usable. Beside this the administrative elements of PhilWiki could all be taken from Wikipedia, to limit the amount of work needed to complete this.

We could invite all the administrators of Philmont, as well as contacting the people at PSA and other people like living descendants of the Abreus, etc. Donbas 17:31, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like an interesting project. I've been inactive as far as the Philmont Wikiproject goes but I'm interested in seeing how a wiki just for Philmont will turn out. I agree Wikipedia doesn't completely fulfill the needs that this sort of project requires. Solarusdude 02:29, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A Philmont wiki has been established at Wikicities. It can be found at philmont.wikicities.com. Your contributions would be appreciated. Hope to see you there! --L1AM (talk - 'tribs.) 09:59, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Energy portal & future selected articles[edit]

Hi! Over the past couple of months I've been spending much more time than I should developing the Energy portal, and intend asking for a portal peer review within the next day or so.

The portal provides a showcase for energy-related articles on Wikipedia. One of the most prominent ways is via a the selected article that is currently changed every 6 weeks or so. It would be good to increase this turnover, and with three Wikiprojects dedicated to energy-related topics and a good number of articles already written, I'd like to suggest that members of each Wikiproject might like to use the 'selected article' to feature some of their best work.

With this in mind, I'd like to suggest that your Wikiproject bypasses the normal selected article nomination page and decides collectively which articles are worth featuring - or these may be self-evident from previous discussions - and add short 'introduction' to the selected article at the appropriate place on page Portal:Energy/Selected article/Drafts, which includes further information. Your personal involvement would be welcome!

Please make any comments on your Wikiproject talk page, my talk page, or on Portal talk:Energy/Selected article/Drafts, as appropriate. Gralo 15:41, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

merge WikiProject Philmont Scout Ranch[edit]

As WikiProject Philmont Scout Ranch seems to have been inactive since the turn of the year, I propose making it a taskforce of Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting, similar to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting/Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting task force. That will ensure it won't get deleted (the WP:Council has been cleaning out inactive projects in recent months) and it will standardize that project with our existing MoS and membership base. We invite your suggestions and comments at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Scouting#mergefrom WikiProject Philmont Scout Ranch. Chris 20:15, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We have now gone ahead and moved this, it can now be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting/Philmont Scout Ranch task force. Chris 07:29, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Pink Christina Aguilera Monster.JPG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Pink Christina Aguilera Monster.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
