College of Arms[edit]

I'm so sorry to have put the College of Arms review on hold, but I honestly think I must do so until the question of acceptable length is addressed. I can tell you candidly that unless I am advised that 100KB+ is a no-no, I intend to promote the article to GA. Meanwhile, have you noticed that Swedish heraldry is up for Featured Article? Hi again. There's just one thing I've noticed about the Seal of Hawaii. I've noticed variations on the web, but most commonly the little shield in the centre of the coat of arms is blue with a white star, instead of green with a gold star. I think that's to represent Hawaii being a US state. If you do decide to change it, can I ask that you remove the black stroke from the star, so it's a borderless white star in the blue shield? According to this source: 'Hawaii's great seal and coat of arms' by Meiric K. Dutton (1960), which I used for the images, the star is yellow on a green inescutcheon. But this book was published in 1960 and revised in 66, so it is possible since then that the colours have been changed from green to blue, and yellow to white as some of the other example images suggests. Another source which supports the green inescutcheon and yellow star: "Arms. An heraldic shield which is quarterly; first and fourth, stripes of the Hawaiian flag; second and third, on a yellow field, a white ball pierced on a black staff; overall, a green escutcheon with a five-pointed yellow star in the center." The first one is a little too small, I will try and find a bigger rendition to use when I start. The second image is not mine, its another user's but based on a previous one I made. Yeah, I'm guilty :) I added several extra that belong in a category like that, but I sorted the current ones to the top of the category above all the historical ones so they don't get mixed up. There's also several countries' coats of arms which we don't have on Commons cause there's no free version available, like Ghana's, but I'm sure you're already aware of that. Hello again. I hate asking this cause I know you're working on the arms in National flag and coat of arms images that should use vector graphics, but was wondering if you could maybe jump ahead to making the coat of arms of Malawi. We don't have any full version of that coat of arms anymore since the non-free version here on Wikipedia English was deleted, we just have the shield. Btw, great job on the Thai Garuda, I universally replaced the other one with your new version on all projects since the Commons:Delinker request wasn't put through. Yeah, it takes several hours cause you have to go through every diffferent language Wikipedia, and while I enjoy doing it, by the end of 2 hours or so it's like "oh god, make it stop!" lol. I'm actually slowly working on making sure all Wikipedias have every coat of arms and flag on them, many language wikipedias don't. I've been working backwards up the alphabet and so far have gone from Z back to Togo. Also thank you so much for the wonderful barnstar on my Commons page. I'm pretty obsessive about symbolism (flags, coats of arms, seals, road signs, company logos...), but I enjoy working on it, and it's nice to know the effort is appreciated. WikiProject:Scuba diving[edit]

Hi Sodacan, Glad to see a new name on the WikiProject Scuba diving list. I have no specific suggestions for graphics, but I'm sure you will find some for yourself. I do a bit of Inkscape work myself, as I find the need, but it tends to be mostly fairly basic illustrations on Wikipedia. On Wikitravel I do a lot of dive site maps for the Cape Town area. Anyway, have fun. I am sure our paths will cross occasionally as there are not many editors active on the project right now. The photo is from Frederiksborg Palace (in Denmark) and it shows how HM the King's privy seal is used in the place of a coat of arms on these painted panels as a Knight of the Order of the Elephant. I will wait for a consensus before I wade in. The question here is whether to: use the original (under fair-use) or use a recreation (hopefully in vector form). If a recreation is needed then it would not be difficult. I already have this file (File:Royal Harp Badge of Ireland.svg), which heraldically speaking, is essentially the same image. It's a little more complex, the claim from Wereith is that the emblem's likeness is subject to copyright and therefore a free recreation is impossible. Sodacan I'm slightly confused about it all to tell the truth. Your previous reply to me (which I can't find now) indicated that a drawing of the badge would be acceptable under free use. I've done that now and still the copyright editors are saying it's not right - see here: Commons:Commons:Deletion requests/File:Badge Comparison sketch.jpg. It's totally the wrong harp Calil. There's got to be some accuracy. I'm in touch with the National Archives at the moment and their comments are starting to be illuminating. It seems that photographic images of badges are acceptable for use for a start. I'm awaiting a further reply from them on other issues though and will report back once I have anything to say. Differencing of arms for great-grandchildren of a British monarch[edit]

Sodacan - you know your heraldry! How do the male-line great-grandchildren of a British monarch difference their arms? Do they use a second label alongside their father's five-pointed label, or do they have a unique (5-point, x-point?) label of their own? I'm thinking here of, for example, the children of the Dukes of Kent and Gloucester. P M C 22:31, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not Sodacan but I can answer your question: The arms of male-line grandchildren of the sovereign are treated as indivisible and unalterable. Therefore, as the charged five-point labels do not change, other cadency marks are added as is standard. The eldest son of a male-line grandchild of the sovereign adds a second label. The daughters bear the plain coat (the arms with the charged five-point label). The second son of a male-line grandchild of the sovereign adds a crescent to the arms. The arms can also be quartered with those of a heraldic heiress, keeping the label of five-points. Seven Letters 00:15, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

-Furthermore, the Royal Warrant of February 24th 1975 making the Arms of the male-line grandchildren of the sovereign hereditary specifically omits the eldest son of the Heir Apparent-so the Arms of the Duke of Cambridge, as he is in the direct line of succession, are not hereditary (and they will at any rate change when his father ascends the throne), but oddly, Prince Harry; as a male-line grandchild of the sovereign who is not the Heir Apparent's eldest son has Arms that according to the 1975 Warrant are hereditary. So that means that if Prince Harry marries and has any children before HM the Queen dies; his children will be entitled to bear his arms, suitably differenced, but once his father becomes King, he will cease to be a grandchild of the sovereign and will become the child of the sovereign and as such will be granted new Arms (which I suspect will be the Arms currently borne by his older brother, bearing in mind they allude to his mother), which will not be hereditary (the Arms of the sovereign's children are, as you probably know-not hereditable), and his children would not be entitled to bear them with the suitable differences.

Grand Palace[edit]

You were in the Outer court, with the big green field between you and the temple. Once you enter the palace gates, you have to go through the Outer court, then to the ticket booths and into the temple, it is when you leave the temple that you enter the Middle court. I can also see that the golden spire is at the front of the three other spires in your photo, This is the Phra Si Rattana Chedi, which is on the western side of the temple, facing the Outer court.
