George Leo Haydock[edit]

Fine looking article. I'm not sure why it did that. I've found that if I paste from a text editor like Microsoft Works it does that. The first ' becomes a `. I think that must be it.

When I got Google Earth, Google task bar came with it. It has a text editor that has helped me a lot. Hope that helps.

Cheers and happy editing.

License tagging for Image:HaydockTitle.JPEG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:HaydockTitle.JPEG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 06:06, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your note Hi, there's a message from orphanbot about that. Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 02:42, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:HaydockTitle.JPEG[edit]

According to the message from orphanbot, the message was uploaded without a license tag. User:Naconkantari deleted the image Nov.29 for no license tag.

I it take that this was an image you scanned of a very old book. Explain the situation to User:Naconkantari. He might undelete the image. Ask his advice has to how to proceed.

I would recommend the following. Read Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tags#Fair_use. It has more copyright image tags than I can comprehend. You could try putting a {{PD-old}} tag on when you re-upload the image or if it is undeleted. In the description part and the discussion page put all the information you have about the image, ie ""scanned by me from a very old book. Only image available to illustrate the subject."" That sort of thing. As much detail as you have.

Another possibility is {{HistoricPhoto}}, with the same description info. It is not a photo, but the historic necessity part is the same. It would be a fairuse tag, and we don't like fairuse. We much prefer public domain. If the book is very old, it is probably in the public domain. Hope that helps. Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 13:11, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:HaydockAdv..JPEG.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Duplicate images uploaded[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:HaydockDivOff1.JPEG. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:HaydockDivOff1.JPG.jpg. The copy called Image:HaydockDivOff1.JPG.jpg has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and remember exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. Your recent edits[edit]

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. License tagging for Image:HaydockBindPic.02.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:HaydockBindPic.02.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 23:41, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:LingardPortrait.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. File permission problem with File:WhitbyComparison.pdf[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:WhitbyComparison.pdf. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 12:51, 2 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Skodoway! I was hoping to find some more information about this photo - would you happen to know the name or the address of this former church/gymnasium in Penrith? Kelly hi! 13:18, 8 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Also, in regards to File:Rear of St. Hilda's Church in Whitby, U.K. today.jpg, is that in Penrith or in Whitby? Kelly hi! 13:51, 8 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello: Thanks for your interest. St. Hilda's Church is in Whitby. Regarding the location of the former church in Penrith, I don't know the street address, but it is right across from the large Protestant Church there. You have to stand on the grounds of that church to photograph the gymnasium (the bars of the fence in the picture enclose the grounds of that church).

Thanks - I can handle the file renaming. Is the photo of the rear of St Hilda's on the same site where St Hilda's church is today, or is it somewhere else? Just looking to estimate the location. Kelly hi! 15:40, 8 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks: Yes, the two photos depict the exact same site.

The site is at the rear of the present St. Hilda's.

Ok, for File:Old Catholic Chapel in Penrith UK.jpg I estimated a location near the United Parish of Penrith Christ Church, near St Catherine's. I moved the other file to Commons:File:Rear of St. Hilda's Church in Whitby, U.K. today.jpg and found the location. Turned out to be a little confusing because there's also a CoE St. Hilda's in Whitby! Kelly hi! 16:17, 8 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the help.

Image without license[edit]

Unspecified source/license for File:KennedyMuseum10.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:KennedyMuseum10.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time after the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Please attribute or claim media you uploaded or restored: File:ShamrockDest.jpg[edit]

You uploaded or restored , File:ShamrockDest.jpg, but for various reasons did not add an {{information}} block, or indicate your (user) name on the file description page. Media uploaded to Wikipedia needs information on the SPECIFIC authorship and source of files, to ensure that it complies with copyright laws in various jurisdictions.

If it's entirely your own work:
please include {{own}} in the relevant source field, amend the {{information}} added by a third party, ensuring that your user name (or name you want used for attribution) is clear in the author field, and change the license to an appropriate "self" variant (if such a license is not already used). You should also add an |author= parameter to the license tag, to assist reviews and image patrollers. You can also add |claimed=yes and an |author=to the {{media by uploader}} or {{presumed_self}} tag if it is present to indicate that you've acknowledged the image, and license shown (and updated the {{information}} where appropriate).

If it's not entirely your own work, or the media is based on the work of others:
Please update the source and authorship fields, so that they accurately reflect the source and authors of the original work(s), as well as the derivative you created. You should also not use a "self" license unless the work is entirely you own. Media that is incorrectly claimed as self or {{own}}, will eventually be listed at Files for Discussion or deleted, unless it's full status is entirely clear to other contributors, reviewers and image patrollers. You should also read Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission which details how to confirm any permissions you obtained for works by others that are still in copyright.

Whilst this notification, relates to a single media upload, it would also be appreciated if you could ensure that appropriate attribution exists for other media you uploaded, You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

It's okay to remove or strike messages like this once the concerns have been addressed. :).

You uploaded, File:HaydockPortrait.jpg, where you either stated or implied that you had permission of a third party to upload it; or that evidence of such permission would be provided on request.

Wikipedia currently needs the permission to be explicit and proven at the time of upload.

Please read Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission, which advises on how to confirm the permission you obtained from a third party.

It is also advisable to ask the third-party what source attribution they desire, as opposed to marking the image as having been "sent personally".

ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 13:12, 4 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Also it would be reasonable to indicate who the artist was. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 13:13, 4 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

File:MowbreckHallPic.jpg needs authorship information[edit]

Dear uploader:

The media file you uploaded as File:MowbreckHallPic.jpg appears to be missing information as to one (or more) of the following :

  1. The author or creators of the work, (including information as to the author's lifespan).
  2. Where and how this particular version was obtained.
  3. When the work was created,

If you did provide such information, it is currently confusing for others trying to make use of the image.

It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.

Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

  • If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which: {{subst:usernameexpand|Skodoway}} will produce an appropriate expansion,
    or use the {{own}} template.

Please also add authorship and sourcing to other files you created or uplopaded. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions please see Help:File page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 13:14, 4 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
