Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Notice

The article Broadview Lofts has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable warehouse to loft condominium conversion. Almost all references on Internet are run-of-the-mill real estate listings or other ads.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. COVID general sanctions alert

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

Please carefully read this information:

A community discussion has authorised the use of general sanctions for pages related to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The specific details of these sanctions are described here.

Broadly, general sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimise disruption in controversial topic areas. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to these topics that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behaviour, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. An editor can only be sanctioned after he or she has been made aware that general sanctions are in effect. This notification is meant to inform you that sanctions are authorised in these topic areas, which you have been editing. It is only effective if it is logged here. Before continuing to edit pages in these topic areas, please familiarise yourself with the general sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.

Not important enough to be in history ?

It is actually quite important because what was areas of Southern Egypt today was a part of Northern Nubia, a section of it became part of Egypt because of the conquest of Ptolemy II Philadelphus. What is Nubia today is in Southern Egypt and North Sudan. The conquest played a role in absorbing Nubia as part of Egypt.

The Greek Ptolemaic Kingdom under Ptolemy II Philadelphus invaded Nubia in 275 BC and annexed the northern twelve miles of this territory, subsequently known as the Dodekaschoinos ('twelve-mile land').

I didn't add this next to it The conquest was publicly celebrated in the panegyric court poetry of Theocritus and by the erection of a long list of Nubian districts at the Temple of Isis at Philae, near Syene. The region's gold production was a key contributor to the prosperity and power of the Ptolemaic empire in the third century BC.

The other part " Throughout the 160s and 150s BC, Ptolemy VI reasserted Ptolemaic control over the northern part of Nubia. "

I will also add this next to it. "This achievement is heavily advertised at the Temple of Isis at Philae, which was granted the tax revenues of the Dodecaschoenus region in 157 BC. Decorations on the first pylon of the Temple of Isis at Philae emphasise the Ptolemaic claim to rule the whole of Nubia. The aforementioned inscription regarding the priests of Mandulis shows that some Nubian leaders at least were paying tribute to the Ptolemaic treasury in this period."

Perharps is too long?

I decided I will also mention the Romans who also had controlled of Egypts lower Nubia Triakontaschoinos. I COULD MAKE IT MUCH SHORTER. Like just mentioning the Greeks and Roman control of Triakontaschoinos and later being returned back to Nubia control. The point is I want to mention the Greeks and Romans had control of Nubia. --Vamlos (talk) 11:58, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

I have removed the {{proposed deletion/dated}} tag from InnoPath Software, which you proposed for deletion, because its deletion has previously been contested or viewed as controversial. Proposed deletion is not for controversial deletions. For this reason, proposed deletion is disallowed on articles that have previously been de-prodded, even by the page's creator, or which have previously been listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{proposed deletion}} template back to the article, but feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled

A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:06, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Gothic Revival architecture in Canada

Hello – Way back in December 2006 you created the Gothic Revival architecture in Canada article and it has held up well since then. But reading through now I notice the illustration of Commerce Court North that you captioned "a Beaux-Arts building with Gothic Revival elements". Where does that come from? The article on Commerce Court more appropriately describes the style as Art Deco, and the historicizing elements are Romanesque rather than Gothic. Is this just a mistake, or is there a deeper justification? – Justinbb (talk) 03:00, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

Good question. Most of that article is based on Kalman's history of Canadian architecture, so a chance it could be found there, but either way I don't think that is a correct description for the building and it should be removed as an example. - SimonP (talk) 03:42, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

Matthew 5:9 Citation

Hello I noticed you contributed to a topic regarding Matthew 5:9 here’s the link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_5:9 There’s a passage in the article that reads: “Martin Luther and other early Protestant translators of the Bible preferred the translation "children of God," because they wanted to avoid any confusion as to whether Jesus was the only Son of God. "Sons of God" is, however, the more accurate translation and is used by most modern Bible translations” I was wondering if I could get a citation for this quote as I’m writing a paper and it heavily depends on this being proven. I looked at the references and I do not believe it is listed. If you could update the Wiki page that would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! 2607:9880:3578:92:C10F:ECC4:DBD0:2DF6 (talk) 04:15, 1 July 2022 (UTC)

Truevision3D deprod

Hi, I removed a proposed deletion you placed on the Truevision3D article, because there was previous prod/deprod back in June 2022. No opinion on notability. An AfD is the right way to go in this case. Pavlor (talk) 08:03, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
