A tag has been placed on Eric shook requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. March 2010[edit]

Please do not replace Wikipedia pages with blank content, as you did to the page Eric shook. Blank pages can confuse readers, and are overall not helpful to the Wikipedia project; furthermore, blanking a page is not the same as deleting it.

If the article you blanked is a duplicate of another article, please redirect it to an appropriate existing page. If the page has been vandalized, please revert it to the last legitimate revision. If you feel that the content of a page is inappropriate, please replace it with appropriate content. If you believe there is no hope for the page, please use the appropriate deletion process.   — Jeff G. ツ 02:25, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly unfree File:Lost on mars science fiction.jpg[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Lost on mars science fiction.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. A tag has been placed on File:Westfield Entertainment Empire of Danger.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. The article Westfield Entertainment has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Company is not notable at all, as suggested by the complete lack of references, and the lack of relevant hits in Google News.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Drmies (talk) 01:45, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Science Fiction.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Science Fiction.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:41, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Lost on mars science fiction.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Lost on mars science fiction.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mikemoral♪♫ 05:17, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your Edits[edit]

Hi. I understand that you're a new editor whose work has been nominated for deletion. It happens, and I apologize for any inconvenience. I see from your edits that you're (understandably) upset with the situation. The best thing you can do right now is take a step back and a deep breath, and relax. You received warnings, above, because your edits violated policy - removing AFD tags, for example. That sort of thing does not help to make your point about the merits of the articles. You need to show why the films are notable - using sources, some of which you've already provided. If you can be calm and persuasive, and if you continue to improve the articles, maybe they're kept. Maybe not. But they surely won't be kept if you end up getting upset and being disruptive - because further disruption may result in your being blocked from editing. Please work with us, we're all on the same team - we just want to improve the encyclopedia. Thanks. UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 20:50, 18 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I see that you asked about Redirects - which might be a good option, in the case of these films. All you do is blank what's there, then type the word "#REDIRECT" followed by a space and a regular wikilink to the target article, or the one that you want that article to redirect to. It's simple, once you know how - but you can leave me a message for specific assistance, if you like. Or, just use {{helpme}} on this page and someone will come along to assist. Hope this helps! You're right - Eric Shook and Westfield Entertainment would have been good targets; I missed that they had already been deleted. I don't see any other obvious targets like a lead actor or other production company. :-/ Not sure what other options exist, since it doesn't appear that the films will become more notable in the near future (as they might if, for example, there were a wide release planned or something). Help with AfDs[edit]

{{helpme}} Both Lost on mars and Empire of Danger are archived in the Mars society library as movies about Mars. The Mars society is already listed on Wikipedia, so I was wondering if there was still a way to redirect them as a movie about Mars to keep it safe from deletion. I have no idea if this would work and how to do this, or if it’s even a good idea. Any feedback is welcomed. Here’s the Mars Society’s page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mars_Society Here’s where the movies are listed http://marsmovieguide.com/

Did the Mars Society actually assist in the production? If so, do we have a source that says so, and do we mention it at the Mars Society page? UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 13:52, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Per the above; although redirects are cheap, they only make sense if they lead to comprehension of the searched topic. If the movies are too obscure to warrant a mention in the article, a redirect could just confuse people - if they search for 'Lost on Mars', and are presented with a page on a society which does not even mention the movie.
If the movies are notable, there is no problem - the articles could be salvaged. With that in mind, I have a) flagged them for rescue with Wikipedia:Article Rescue Squadron, and b) asked on Wikiproject Films, here. That is, in the hope that someone could salvage the articles by locating more sources.
If that effort fails, then it might be possible to do as you said, by mentioning the films in the article. I'm thinking of something along the lines of;

The Mars Society maintains their own movie guide, which includes productions such as Lost on Mars and Empire of Danger. (and appropriate other examples; some further info on their listing; a ref to their own page (primary source for the fact that they list them) - and in that case, the redirects would be appropriate.

I suggest waiting to see the outcome of the AfD discussions. Please let me know.  Chzz  ►  15:41, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Westfield_Entertainment_Movie_production.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Westfield_Entertainment_Movie_production.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

A tag has been placed on File:Science fiction Westfield Entertainment.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 04:21, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
