Conasprella edpetuchi

Hi David, it's been some time since we have collaborated. First of all, congratulations on being the co-author of Dalliconus edpetuchi and thanks for adding an image. The problem is, just now in 2015, a new taxonomy of Conus has been been published stating, among many other things, that Dalliconus Tucker & Tenorio, 2009 is a synonym of Conasprella (Dalliconus), represented in WoRMS as Conasprella. You can check this here (a free pdf) : Puillandre N., Duda T.F., Meyer C., Olivera B.M. & Bouchet P. (2015). One, four or 100 genera? A new classification of the cone snails. Journal of Molluscan Studies. 81: 1-23. Therefore, I suggest we follow WoRMS and use the name Conasprella edpetuchi (Monnier, Limpalaër, Roux & Berschauer, 2015) Bouchet, P. (2015). Conasprella edpetuchi (Monnier, Limpalaër, Roux & Berschauer, 2015). Accessed through: World Register of Marine Species at http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=834138 on 2015-03-05 Conasprella edputichi. If you disagree, I advise you to contact Dr. Philippe Bouchet in Paris, who is one of the co-authors of this new study. Anyway, good to hear from you again. JoJan (talk) 09:11, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Good to hear from you JoJan! The issue with Bouchet's article and attempt to synonomize the genus name is that our article was published subsequent to his; in other words he has not clearly addressed the issue and we (four authors) disagree with his use of the genus Conasprella. We will be taking up this issue with the editors at WoRMS. Shellnut (talk) 17:46, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

You know I can't take sides in such a question. I won't edit this article until this question is resolved. Please let me know. By the way, I have lately referenced several times an article to a publication in The Festivus. It's only a pity that I don't have a free subscription to this journal so that I could go more in depth instead having to stick to the abstract. I have been offered free subscription to some major scientific websites, such as jstor.com, highbeam.com, Oxford Art online, to name a few. All these subscriptions would have cost me a lot of money. But none specializes in Gastropoda and one needs to read the most recent publications to stay up-to-date. Best regards, JoJan (talk) 11:25, 6 March 2015 (UTC)
JoJan, send me a private message with your email so I can send you an electronic PDF copy of our journal, The Festivus. 174.76.19.9 (talk) 17:48, 6 March 2015 (UTC)

Photo of hexaplex duplex

Hi there, the photo of hexaplex duplex has been attributed to you. I have seen a very similar shell, which I believe was collected in Mozambique. But from the Wikipedia article and what I have been able to look up on the web, it does not appear that it occurs in the Mozambique channel. Would you know if it does? Thank you Xtal42 (talk) 07:36, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Hello Xtal21, and thank you for your inquiry. I am informed that Hexaplex duplex occurs only in West Africa off the coast of Somalia and Angola. Your east African species in the Mozambique Channel is likely a different species.Shellnut (talk) 17:28, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

Mmm, OK thanks. Will have to look into its origins again! Xtal42 (talk) 12:08, 12 March 2015 (UTC)

Congratulations

Hi David, you may have a look at the article I just created Conus berschaueri. You're not just the co-author of a new species, but I now see that there is a species named after you as well. If by any chance you could add some more information (and maybe a photo), that would be most helpful. Best regards, JoJan (talk) 15:33, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Thanks JoJan! Yes, I have had Jaspidiconus berschaueri and Vasticardium berschaueri named after me in 2014. Quite an honor, truly. I can send you images, and will later post them on Wikipedia, but I have been a bit busy lately being one of the two co-editors of The Festivus.Shellnut (talk) 16:52, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
