Welcome!

Hello, ScribbleStick/Archives/2009, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, like The Randoms, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for page creation, and may soon be deleted.

Help request

{{helpme}} I got a message saying my article may be deleted. How do I stop this happening?

Hi there. Don't worry; it looks to me like Anturiaethwr (talk · contribs) tagged the article for speedy deletion, and informed you about that, but then - just 1 minute later - they removed the speedy deletion request, and also removed the warning from your talk page (with this edit).

You can see the record of them placing the speedy delete tag, and undoing their own edit, in the article history here.

If you want to check further, you could leave a message on their talk page - but I wouldn't worry, it was probably just a brief, quickly fixed mistake.

Please note though, that you might have further problems with the article, because it doesn't assert notability. Please check if the band meets the criteria in WP:BAND, and - if so - add a reference to a reliable source to support the facts.

For my own tips on this, see user:chzz/refs.

Cheers,  Chzz  ►  05:05, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

{{helpme}}Re:The Randoms (see above). Number 9 on the list of what constitutes notability for a band is “has won or placed in a major music competition”, does the Smokefreerockquest count (it is New Zealand’s biggest music competition for school children)?

Please give me the link to the reference you plan to use, below; do it like this;
[http://www.google.com google]
Which gives this;
google
No need for another helpme; I'll keep an eye on this page. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  05:20, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Heres the SFRQ mainpage: [1] and here's and article showing The Randoms fairing in it [2] (End of the second paragraph), there should be a better source somwhere, but it seems to have been taken down. If you need better sources, let me know.

It would be appreciated is you'd been able to keep popping in here for the next few days (if you don't mind), just cause I'm sure I'll have more questions. Thank you so much,

--ScribbleStick (talk) 05:41, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

I'll check those sources soon, when I get a spare minute.
I'll certainly try to keep an eye out, but what would be better is, one of these;
  • If you add some question here and want me to take a look, put a note on my talk page with {{tb|ScribbleStick}}. This will put a notice on my page like this;
Hello, ScribbleStick. You have new messages at ScribbleStick's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
This suggestion isn't purely laziness on my part ;-) - it's also designed to help you get used to wikipedia communications, good practice, etc.
  • If it works for you, please try the talk to us live link. It requires java; if your system can't do that, then no worries.
Cheers,  Chzz  ►  06:17, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Having looked at that festival, I honestly don't know if it would qualify as a "major music competition". You'd have to check with the 'experts' in such things, by enquiring on Wikipedia talk:Notability (music) or Wikipedia talk:Reliable sources. This may, however, not be neccesary because...
The best chance is to try to meet the first criteria of WP:BAND - "Has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works..."
I did a little digging myself, and I found this article, which is definitely a good start - because it's an article from a pretty major newspaper, it's not an advert or press-release, and it's non-trivial coverage, because the article is specifically about the band - it's not a passing mention.
This news article can be used to assert the facts - it states they are a 3-piece, that they won the Smokefree thing, and lots of other facts that could be added. I will add this citation to the article, using a 'cite' tag.; if you check how I've done it, it should help you in future citations. Also, see my own notes in user:chzz/refs.
This reference alone will probably suffice for avoiding a deletion. Any more that you could dig up would help further.

Explanation and apology

Hi there, I saw your {{helpme}} and thought I'd better pop in and explain myself. I saw the article and tagged it for speedy deletion, but on second thought realized it probably didn't meet those criteria. I undid the tagging, and I also removed my notice from your talk page, thinking it had been there such a short time you wouldn't have noticed it; apparently, I was wrong about that. If I'd been thinking clearly I would have left you a further note, instead of deleting the original one; what I actually did was unnecessarily confusing, and for that I apologize.

Again, welcome to Wikipedia, and if I can be of any help to you, please let me know! AnturiaethwrTalk 05:28, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Totally fine, no need to apologise. Its really nice to know sombody actually cared about my article enough to want to delete it (if that makes sense).
I probably will need to talk to you again, so till then,
--ScribbleStick (talk) 05:41, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi there. I'd usually drop you a pre-written message but seeing as you are new, I opted for a more personal approach: You tagged ยุวชนวิจัยภัทรวิทยา for speedy deletion, a process that only allows deletion in limited cases and has a strict set of so-called criteria under which an article has to fall to be speedy deleted. In reviewing those you will notice that foreign-language articles can only be deleted if they exist on another Wikimedia project (so called criterion A2 (i.e. A = article and 2 = second article-related criterion)). If an article does not exist at such a project, the correct approach is to use the template {{notenglish}} and follow its instructions.
As for speedy deletion in general, you should not use {{db|reason}} but specific templates, which exist for each criterion (like {{db-a2}}). You can find a complete list at WP:CSD#Marking an article for speedy deletion. Also, these tags should be placed at the top of an article, not at the bottom. Finally, if you want to request speedy deletion in the future, there are some helpful essays to avoid common mistakes: WP:FIELD, WP:WIHSD and WP:10CSD. If you have any further questions regarding this topic or any other, please do not hesitate to ask me. Happy editing! Regards SoWhy 07:52, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Bookmarking

Hey Chzz, sorry to bug you, but I was just wondering if there is some way to bookmark a page for easy access. I know you can watch pages, but is there a better way? --ScribbleStick (talk) 09:12, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

There is no specific feature (as far as I am aware); of course, you can use features of your internet browser (bookmarks, or favorites etc) to keep track of wikipedia pages, just like those of other websites.
I personally use my user page to keep 'useful links' (articles that I've worked on or are involved with in some way); I do this by simply adding links manually. Take a look at user:chzz and you'll see, down the left, a simple, long list of article links.
I hope this helps,  Chzz  ►  09:38, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks - that works fine.

Edit-summaries

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Please don't forget to provide an edit summary for your edits. Regards SoWhy 09:59, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Marco Liesy

A tag has been placed on Marco Liesy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. — Ched :  ?  02:12, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm afraid I've deleted this under our WP:CSD#A7 criterion - Coming 7th in a poker tournament really does not confer notability. I can recreate the article in your sandbox if you want to work on it and have sources demonstrating notability. Pedro :  Chat  07:59, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Jonathan Kotula

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Jonathan Kotula, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

WP:ONEVENT no evidence that he is notable for more than one event

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Terrillja talk 04:26, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Jonathan Kotula

I have nominated Jonathan Kotula, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jonathan Kotula. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Terrillja talk 04:38, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Archiving

Um...this page is getting a bit too crowded. I noticed there is some way to archive pages - could sombody talk me through this. Thanks, --ScribbleStick (talk) 09:06, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

RE:RE:Archiving

{{helpme}}

Nope - scratch that, I need help again (read Archiving above)

First of all, please remember to sign your posts with ~~~~ even on your own talk page always.
Then: You can use a bot to do that, e.g. MiszaBot III. Please read User:MiszaBot/Archive HowTo on how to do that, it's pretty simple actually. Regards SoWhy 11:26, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
