Lachlan River

Thanks for your edits to the Lachlan River article and for filling in the info box. Regards--A Y Arktos 04:41, 8 January 2006 (UTC) (the photographer of the river)

Do you plan to add more wineries to that one-winery-category? Otherwise it will remain rather useless. Dbach 21:06, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

Category: White wines

Its not correct to add say Silvaner to Category:White wines as it is a grape not a wine. And given that any red wine can be vinified white and some grapes are blended I am not sure hat the point of the category is anyway. Justinc 21:58, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi Justinc, I added wines to the category based on what was present in the Wine article under Wine styles. Maybe a tidy-up of this section is in order. I agree regarding some red wines can be vinified white and have removed the white wine subcat. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help improve the categorisation of wine. Scharks 01:09, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
The category of Category:Wine styles is a mess: Chenin Blanc is not a wine style it is a grape variety. The list in the wine article is pretty confused in the same way. You can make dessert wines and sparkling wines from chenin blanc. Pomace wine and Vin gris are ok there, and perhaps Uhudler and Retsina. The other big thing is that under standard naming, no category should be plural, so it should be Category:French wine not Category:French wines. That was my fault... Justinc 01:55, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
Oh just noticed previous edit conflict, which was apology for being rather curt, sorry. Justinc 01:56, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
I agree about how messy Category:Wine styles is. It was my attempt to replace the rather ambiguous category Category:Wines that existed prior to my edits. It appears that the issue is separating wine/grape varieties from actual wine styles, which can be confusing at times. Perhaps the Category:Wine styles category is better represented in Category:Wines by country as most styles exist on a regional basis? If this is the case then maybe all articles under Category:Wine styles can be removed and Category:Wines by country can be a subcat of Category:Wine styles? Or maybe Category:Wine styles can be renamed or removed? I noticed the plural categories issue as you mentioned but then I found this and I was not so sure it was a problem. Page Blanking

On 20-Jan, you blanked Greek wines. Blanking pages is generally considered a bad idea. The previous redirect to a category was also a bad idea, but instead of blanking pages in cases like this, you should consider changing the redirect to something more suitable or nominating it for deletion. I've changed this article to a redirect to Greek products which at least discusses Greek wine. Thanks! -- JLaTondre 15:10, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi JLaTondre, thanks for the tip. I'll try to make sure it doesn't happen again. Scharks 21:41, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

Adelaide Councils

Nice work in starting and organising a number of these articles effectively! - Gt 13:02, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Gt. All metropolitan Adelaide LGAs now have standard LGA infoboxes. Looks much better. --Scharks 13:43, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging for Image:Petemurray.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Petemurray.jpg. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as {{db-unksource}}.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

Thanks

Hi Scharks- Thanks for the improvements to United States wine and also to Australian wine.David Justin 03:42, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome, but I must thank you for the multitude of excellent new articles that you have been adding regarding wine. Scharks 05:34, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Good idea

Hi Sharks- That's a great idea.... I'll start working on it. Many thanks for the suggestion. Best regards. David Justin 01:28, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome, I look forward to the article. scharks 02:24, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
I'd like to create an entirely new page titled "wine competitions" that doesn't link, as that title does now, to the Paris wine Tasting of 1976 page. However, I don't know how to "disconnect" them. Would really appreciate any help you can provide. Many thanks.David Justin 03:37, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
Follow this link here, click "edit this page" and replace the redirect information currently on the page with the new article content. After you have saved it, the page should not redirect anymore and be its own article. Let me know if you still have troubles. scharks 04:52, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Hi Sharkes- Thanks for the guidance, which I appreciate. I recently created a brief article on Spanish wine, but it doesn't yet appear on the wine country template. Will it be added automatically automatically through some process? (Perhaps it will have been done by the time you read this). Thanks again. David Justin 20:00, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi David, entries need to be manualled added to the template. I can add the entry for you. Thanks for letting me know. By the way I have just started the article Glossary of wine terms, it would be great to have your input. scharks 20:57, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
Hi Sharks- Thanks to your suggestion, I've created a new Wine competition page to replace much of my existing clutter. However, "wine competitions" (which is by far the more important term) still links to the Paris wine tasting. How do I correct the problem? As soon as I get this straightened out, I'll begin replacing a lot of links with it.
Your Glossary of wine terms is a good contribution. I expect to be adding terms to it over time. And many thanks for adding Spanish wine to the template.David Justin 03:13, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
Thanks David, great article. I have redirected Wine competitions to Wine competition instead of the Paris wine tasting. scharks 04:05, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
Thanks a million, Sharks. I really appreciate your thoughtfulness and help. Am enjoying adding to your Glossary.David Justin 16:36, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi Scharks- (Looks like I *finally* spelled your nick correctly!). I've tried to categorize the "See also" section of [Wine]. Perhaps it's over-kill. Please check it out and make any improvement/changes you can identify. Thanks! David Justin 01:33, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi again David, sorry for undoing all of your work but I removed most of the links. There are now only six key articles there. All of the articles I removed are better listed under other articles or are already present in the body of the wine article. Many of the alcohol related articles that were listed were not directly related to wine but rather alcohol in general, so I have included alcoholic beverage to encompass all of these links. Hopefully you are ok with this, but it sure does make things far tidier! scharks 02:13, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
Hi Scharks- Thanks for improving the "See also" section; what you did makes good sense and is an improvement. And thanks also for alerting me to the template convention. I'll go back and remove the ones I've inserted.David Justin 04:28, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
No problems David. I'll get to making some more templates such as {{AOCs of France}} etc so that these can be inserted into those articles. They are a fantastic addition to articles as they really improve navigation between similar articles. Also thanks for creating the Australian Wine Research Institute article. They do a great service for the wine industry here in Australia. scharks 04:36, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing that disambig business, I had no idea where to start! :D Orderinchaos78 (t|c) 16:05, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
I only just worked it out myself, the code in the template is getting rather complex. Let me know if theres further disambig issues with the template. §ĉҺɑʀκs 16:16, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Wine faults

Hi! I just came across Wine faults, which looks to be mostly your work, and I just wanted to thank you for a job well done. It's a better, more comprehensive article than I was expecting to find. Good job. -- Coneslayer 16:13, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. I hope the article was of use for you. §ĉҺɑʀκs 21:50, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Speedy criteria

You tagged a template as speedy. Please see Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#Templates - use {{prod}} perhaps instead. Deletion won't be contested but CSD are quite specific.--Golden Wattle talk 01:26, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for this. I didn't realise there was a different method for templates. I'll patch it up. §ĉҺɑʀκs 01:29, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Too late - the deleting admin pays no attention to the criteria either apparently. The previously deleted templates had been created by you and only edited by you, hence they were deleted as {{db-author}} --Golden Wattle talk 01:36, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Bugger. I hope I haven't upset anyone by doing this. I guess it was the desired outcome but not done in the correct way. §ĉҺɑʀκs 01:39, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Hehe you're quick :)

I'd just TFD'd Australian LGA and gone back to edit the info into TT:IAP, only to see you'd beaten me to it! :) Orderinchaos78 13:53, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

I was actually working on getting City of Maribyrnong and City of Casey converted to WP:IAP but kept getting edit conflicts! Collaboration at its best. §ĉҺɑʀκs 13:56, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Haha whoops :) I've gotten quite distracted today - I'm supposed to be improving the Perth suburbs articles and I've spent the whole day on Melbourne related oddness (how can one city have so many unique templates?!) Orderinchaos78 14:01, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Melbourne suburbs require a lot of work. Virtually none of them have an infobox, which will make it difficult to transfer the "suburb boxes" into them. Oh well, at least we're getting somewhere. §ĉҺɑʀκs 14:06, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
I'm thinking of taking care of that with an Access database - i.e. generate the infoboxes from scratch using the root data as a source. As I am already doing something similar for Melbourne with regard to the upcoming election (for non-Wiki purposes) it seemed a sensible way of doing it. The only bit I'm dreading is actually the edit, click, paste business 401 minus the handful that are done times (unless we can appropriate Josh's bot to do it and I can send him the infoboxes as text files, but I have no idea what approval that requires from the PTB) Orderinchaos78 14:24, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Sounds cool, but as you say its a lot of editing. I was wondering if you could use AutoWikiBrowser to make it easier? §ĉҺɑʀκs 14:42, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Might look into that. If you look at recent contribs, the first few of the 76 melbourne towns have started going in. Most of their outer area articles are stubs so I'm having a go at expanding them a little while I'm at it. I have almost all the data for the 347 suburbs in my database as well, just need to get geocoords, distances and state electorates. Orderinchaos78 14:20, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
Just an update - the 76 towns have gone in, I'm now doing Mornington Peninsula and Cranbourne/Frankston. My little Access database is great! Pity about the data collection bit though... that's almost done for the rest of Melbourne (just need geocoords and distances, and to CHECK the neighbour boxes as a random survey reveals 80% or so have issues). Orderinchaos78 03:46, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
I've just had a look at the work that you're doing on the Melbourne infoboxes and they look great. Keep up the good work! §ĉҺɑʀκs 03:12, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! I'm just hoping I don't get a tidal wave of complaints from pissed off Melburnians. :) Orderinchaos78 03:54, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Chemicalbrothers2.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Chemicalbrothers2.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Extraordinary Machine 23:03, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Quick request for help

Don't know if you can help, but I've been struggling to get this template for suburb political boxes happening and I am so close yet so far... If you look at User_talk:Orderinchaos78/Australian Politics Box, what I'm trying to do is have one template receive parameters and then print either a normal or a "short" box. The short ones, as you can see, are incredibly useful if you have 10 elections' worth of results like I soon might have for some places. After much struggle, I have got it to display in the box, but can't figure out where the hell the }| is coming from. I even extracted to Wordpad and counted the curly brackets, which add up correctly. Orderinchaos78 11:28, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

As an aside - I've figured out WHAT is causing the problem, but not why, or how to fix it. The lines creating the table for the long one, although buried within an ifeq, seem to be the cause of the weird characters in the short one. I'm starting to think it's a mediawiki bug. I've laid comments on the two lines in question. Orderinchaos78 12:08, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
NVM this, i have fixed --TheJosh 12:41, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
And fixed well - it looks great! Orderinchaos78 12:51, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Good to see you guys got it working! §ĉҺɑʀκs 12:59, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
