Populated place

Rahinch, County Tipperary Who can disagree with that? Sarah777 (talk) 20:04, 31 July 2016 (UTC)

Question...

How do "drafts" such as this end up in the IrlProject?

Donnelly (surname)

Addendum: it seems they no longer exist except on the IrlProj template...

Sarah777 (talk) 20:02, 31 July 2016 (UTC)

Because the bot that collects the articles cannot find and properly list draft articles like Draft:Donnelly (surname) even though the Ireland Project assessment banner was added to the talk page. I think there are still 3 such drafts but the links need you to prefix the name with "Draft:" in order to display them. ww2censor (talk) 22:03, 31 July 2016 (UTC)

I'm not even sure what I did here! Sarah777 (talk) 19:06, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

Here's a thing....

This article cites many "facts" apparently referenced - but none of the links seem to work or reference the "facts". At least they cannot be checked online. How does one go about trying to establish that an article in the Irish Times in 1933 supports a claim here? Sarah777 (talk) 22:59, 20 August 2016 (UTC)

That can be a problem with older references. If you really want to investigate such claims the Gilbert Library or the National Library are good sources for newspapers, though you have to go through a process to get into the reading room of the National Library. A while ago my son gave me a link to an Irish newspaper archive as he was looking for the news reports of my father's death which was being written about at the time. I think you could get a free trial subscription for a week. If you are interested, I'll get the details. Do you not have a sub? Let me know. Jstor can also be useful for some Irish journals - see Wikipedia:JSTOR. Here are their results of a "Dargle River" search. I've found all sorts of good references there such as the Dublin Historical Record. Good luck. ww2censor (talk) 17:26, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
I found this particularly useful: A Specimen of Sarcophaga ebrachiata Pandellé (Diptera: Sarcophagidae) with Dark Genitalia . Apparently the Dargle is full of them....! Sarah777 (talk) 19:09, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

This is just one of a series of hundreds of articles! It is a stub - to be expanded. Sarah777 (talk) 18:40, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
OK - a weakness in this particular list is that the only "fact" in it is that, regarding Leap Castle "There are varied accounts as to when exactly the main tower/keep was constructed; ranging anywhere from the 13th century to the late 15th century, but most likely around 1250 CE."
But I'd argue that we should call for references rather than deletion. Sarah777 (talk) 19:20, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks! But I'm now utterly confused by the Richard de Clare, 2nd Earl of Pembroke who may, or may not, have built Kilkenny Castle in 1172 or maybe it was built in 1195 by William Marshal, oddly the 1st Earl of Pembroke ! Sarah777 (talk) 22:39, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
It seems Richard de Clare, 2nd Earl of Pembroke died in 1176 yet William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke, in a "second creation" also founded Kilkenny Castle. Any historians out there who can clear this up??? Sarah777 (talk) 22:50, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Earthquake in Ireland?

It appears that in 1245 and earthquake occurred, strong enough to destroy a church in County Down! Never realised we had such an earthquake in recorded history in Ireland. Sarah777 (talk) 17:40, 18 September 2016 (UTC)

Well I don't remember that one myself but in 1984, when I was away in India, there was one that left some damage. Check [ http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/irelands-earthquake-explained-29305938.html this] out and maybe have a look at List of earthquakes in the British Isles. My neighbours had small a small crack up the side of their house which I could see from my kitchen! It was not really bad and maybe is still not been pointed. ww2censor (talk) 18:00, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, heard about the 1984 one - but it didn't demolish much! Apparently a tsunami hit the south coast after the Lisbon Earthquake of 1755. And I thought we were safe here....Sarah777 (talk) 18:03, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
Well now that I'm not in Ireland earthquakes there won't affect me unless I'm visiting my family. I was in the US for Hurricane Sandy staying in my sister-in-laws all electric flat so we had no power for days, but now terrorism is more likely here in France though I am in the countryside. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 18:10, 18 September 2016 (UTC)

A big THANK YOU

..... to those of you who, despite their reservations (!) supported retention of 1250 in Ireland. I will endeavor to fill in all the blanks. Sarah777 (talk) 21:15, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

Personally I think you should try to put at least 2 or 3 items into each such list as a minimun. Good luck and thanks. ww2censor (talk) 18:00, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
Indeed; I remove the stub tag if I can get a birth, death and event. But to start a year I'll accept one link. Mostly, once I create one it seems to expand (albeit very slowly) over time. Sarah777 (talk) 18:17, 18 September 2016 (UTC)

Class assessments

Good morning. I noticed this edit where you added a different class rating to the one already used by another project. Just a heads up but the class rating sould be the same for all projects, so either change the other one if you think it is now rated differently or rate as the existing projects. Are you using User:Kephir/gadgets/rater? It's pretty good but for the Ireland project don't click the "photo" button, instead add the field "image needed" and fill in "yes". Have a great day. ww2censor (talk) 09:10, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

News to me, I'd have thought different projects would have different criteria. I've been rating Irl Projects for many years (in fact I do the bulk of the rating for the project) and almost never interfere with tags of other projects. Sarah777 (talk) 19:29, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
Well I've always understood that if it's a start class, that's the same for all projects because it is the quality of the article which does not vary by project. Why would it? On the other hand the importance does vary by project. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 22:20, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
Why would it? I guess if different projects had different criteria it would? Sarah777 (talk) 22:32, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
So let me pose the scenario differently and maybe you will agree. When an article is assessed for featured article or a Good article that decision is made by consensus of the community and not by any one project, so when such an article is promoted it's quality is attributed to all the interested projects at thee same level and not at different levels by for one project. So in my mind the same applies to any assessment level as a community wide rating. I think that if an article is the a stub class for one project it is the same for all. The only exception I know of is where a project does not rate articles at a particular class. I don't remember which projects I have noticed this with but there are some. We can of course agree to disagree. Keep well. ww2censor (talk) 09:49, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
We may have to do that - agree to disagree! I simply don't feel comfortable or qualified to alter the tags of Projects I've no familiarity with. Sarah777 (talk) 21:45, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi, at Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge we're striving to bring about 10,000 article improvements and creations for the UK and Ireland and inspire others to create more content. In order to achieve this we need diversity of content, in all parts of the UK and Ireland on all topics. Eventually a regional contest will be held for all parts of the British Isles, like they were for Wales and the Wedt Country. We currently have just over 1900 articles and need contributors! If you think you'd be interested in collaborating on this and helping reach the target quicker, please sign up and begin listing your entries there as soon as possible! Thanks.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:42, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

Question

I have no idea who to ask about this, but how do I go about getting another page re-rated? (I'm only asking you because you just re-rated MDK's page.) I'm looking for Haley Reinhart to be re-rated from start class, but IDK who to ask to do it? Thanks for any info you can give. Rcul4u998 (talk) 23:47, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) the Musician project does not appear to have an active assessment request area but you can try here. It certainly seems at least a C-class article or even a B, so I will rerate the class but as I am not a member or interested in any of the project I will not change the importance rating. That really needs to be done by project members. Idols have an assessment request page here but the last request was 8 years ago! Good luck. ww2censor (talk) 09:21, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
You took the words right out of my mouth WW....! :) Sarah777 (talk) 21:45, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

Allied Irish Banks

This is probably none of my business, but...

AIB updated its logo last month, and that's probably why 194.69.198.228 – this IP address being registered to the bank – removed File:Allied Irish Banks (logo).svg from the corresponding article's infobox.

Incidentally, an image of the new logo was uploaded to Commons on 29 September (File:Allied Irish Banks Ireland 2016 logo.svg), only to be promptly deleted because it was illegal (so to speak; I've never really got my head round the rules regarding the uploading of images).

I think you were right to revert 194.69.198.228's edit – and that the infobox should continue to display the old logo (which also continues to be used by AIB GB and First Trust for the time being) until a legal image of the new logo is uploaded.

Bluebird207 (talk) 15:17, 7 October 2016 (UTC)

Well, I was only half-right then! I was unaware that AIB had a new logo; I assumed the change was an error...and we know what the first three letters of "assume" spell....
Thanks for the heads-up. Sarah777 (talk) 23:12, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

Assessing lists

Is there some reason, guideline or policy for removing the importance ratings on lists and replacing with NA, as you did on Talk:List of cathedrals in Ireland that I reverted once? How any other have you removed? Or am I missing something? ww2censor (talk) 08:32, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

I made an error, didn't realise you were the offended party! I briefly thought all lists were NA....then I realised I was thinking templates. Sarah777 (talk) 23:00, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
In fact, in order to extend an olive branch (the new improved me) I've reverted my own daft edit....Sarah777 (talk) 23:06, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
No olive branches are necessary. I just wondered if this was a new modis operandi I had not heard about. Here are some freshly picked Italian olives to go with the branches. Keep well ww2censor (talk) 09:53, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
I hope you know I am not actually following you around watching your assessments, but most days I review Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Ireland articles by quality log to see what has not been assessed and also check out the Category:Unknown-importance Ireland articles from the assessment table if there are any. You and I seem to be the only ones doing this these days. BHG has given up a long time ago and the few others who were around when the criteria were discussed and setup have evaporated. But for all you good work …

My grandfather used to love these. ww2censor (talk) 12:19, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Never a great fan of sugary cookies myself...so I'll treasure yours and never eat it! One hopes not too many have moved to the Great Beyond.... Sarah777 (talk) 21:41, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
Perhaps this is more to your liking though not sweet but still a thank you for your work. I won't use one myself as hectares of them grow all around us here but by now have been harvested.

Croissant munching D4s

Looks like they had pretensions in Donnybrook long before it became "D4"! This photo is from 1927.....

La patisserie continantale confesserie - ooh la la!

Anyway, it illustrates the complete disconnect between the "elite"'s wannabe culture and the reality for most people in a way that is very modern...and ancient. Plus ça change etcetera.....Sarah777 (talk) 22:57, 17 October 2016 (UTC)

What about this Grafton Street image I uploaded yesterday? No, I'm not old enough to have taken it myself!
I had noticed this image previously and that is now O'Brien's Wines but it did not look so very different when I was a kid though it had changed quite a bit by the 1970s but the tram tracks were well gone by even then. The family look like they are dressed up and going to mass at Donnybrook Church you see in the distance. The barber was on the left roughly where the car is, as was the bank and the DBC bakery. I think it was a Munster and Leinster Bank. I don't recall the shops on the left but time fades the memories. Thanks ww2censor (talk) 23:26, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
I'm just amazed that in 1927 the "Cuisine de France" type shop which appeared here in recent Ireland in the 90's (80's ??) was already "a thing" back in 1927! Sarah777 (talk) 23:34, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
Regarding Grafton Street, I recall reading somewhere that before pedestrianisation a walk from Stephen's Green to Trinity had the same effect on your lungs as smoking a pack of 20 cigarettes! Sarah777 (talk) 23:40, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
That would not surprise me as everyone seemed to smoke when I was young and IIRC Grafton Street was two way traffic. Jammet's French restaurant (or this Irish Times article) was already in business in 1901 and lasted until 1967, so some French style was already in fashion even then though it was the only French restaurant in Dublin for many years. GTG ww2censor (talk) 23:44, 17 October 2016 (UTC)
So - it closed in 1967 because the patrons could no longer park outside it? If only it had survived another 30 years it would have been safe. I mean - who can park outside McDonald's on Grafton St? Sarah777 (talk) 23:09, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
Two-way traffic on Grafton Street in the 1930s
Indeed, very true. (:> ww2censor (talk) 09:55, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
Following up on Jammets, this might interest you. She painted a portrait of my mother which I have hanging in my office/library. ww2censor (talk) 17:42, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

As I recalled, Grafton Street had two-way traffic but this image is a bit before my time. ww2censor (talk) 09:54, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

Auto assessment

Didn't you mention User:BU RoBOT/autoassess, or something similar, to me some time ago? Is it worth discussing at the Ireland project so it could be implemented, though it would curtail some of your great work in assessing articles. ww2censor (talk) 09:47, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

I'd be happy with that - sometimes (as I've said) an article appears obviously "start" by IrlProj standards and some other project has it classed as "c". Feel free to "opt-in" the Irl Proj - you'll get no objection from me at least. Sarah777 (talk) 21:13, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

Photo request

I noticed that Irish Lumper, that you reassessed back in 2014, has no photo. Maybe you can get a hold of a few of these and upload a photo, and afterwards have some nice roast spuds. ww2censor (talk) 10:12, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

I've no idea where I could find a Lumper. (Though I see someone has re-rated it to mid-importance) It is that at least; I flunked again! Sarah777 (talk) 19:13, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
This 2013 article as well as other indicate they might be available in M&S and maybe even Dunnes. Happy hunting if you have the energy. ww2censor (talk) 23:00, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
Dunnes? I could do that - stay tuned...Sarah777 (talk) 01:31, 24 October 2016 (UTC)
Here is another one Rooster (potato) that seems to be available around Dublin per this report. ww2censor (talk) 10:17, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
Ah WW! Rooster spuds have been our staple spud since I can remember...wonderful floury when boiled. Sarah777 (talk) 21:07, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
As far as I'm aware, the lumper was only ever sold in the shops for those few weeks in 2013. They hadn't grown enough of them to give a steady supply. I think they might only sell to restaurants now. Scolaire (talk) 13:31, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
OK - might have to wait a while for my photo-shoot....Sarah777 (talk) 21:26, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

The table can be manually updated from here: http://tools.wmflabs.org/enwp10/cgi-bin/update.fcgi and Ireland just passed 50,000. I've emailed a guy who has helped and used to be jointly responsible. I'm not sure who or what does the logs but I'll investigate that. It appears no projects are getting updated though I can't be sure as I'm only subscribed to three but none of those are working. Thanks, I've change the category on the commons. ww2censor (talk) 21:13, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi.

Mullaghmore, County Sligo - your revert there seems to of been done without any consideration to the nature of my edit. I was merely standardizing a section of the article. I think this has arisen because I did not mark my edit as minor, which I should of done - so the mistake was on my part. I have not edited here for a while so would appreciate some feedback on this. Thank you!--Máedóc (talk) 23:30, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

The standard name of this section in articles about populated places is "People" - not "Notable People", "Famous People" or any other sort of people. If they are not notable the rules allow their removal. Sarah777 (talk) 22:35, 8 January 2017 (UTC)
It's been rather inconsistently applied across the project, but I see where you're coming from. Thank you.--Máedóc (talk) 13:00, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
What can I say?! I consistently name/re-name that section to "People". I guess that maybe 90% of articles use that heading....but it's only a guess based on a (fairly large) sample. Sarah777 (talk) 02:29, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

You too Ww?

Just noticed that the band U2, their article, albums, bios etc seem un-tagged for the IrlProj. Someone should fix that! Sarah777 (talk) 22:34, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Well I tagged U2 back in 2007 when it became a GA but I don't watch the pages I assess. Now it's a FA it is tagged as such. Other related articles in Category:U2 may have missed. Will you look or shall I? ww2censor (talk) 00:19, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
You're the music man - give it a lash! Sarah777 (talk) 22:24, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
Not really. In fact I hardly get time to even listen to more than a few hours of RTÉ radio online these days. I've made a start on this template {{U2}} completing only two sections so have only made a small indent. I did review Timeline of U2 but got diverted by derived unassessed links from there. Perhaps you could try these {{U2 singles}} to help out. I even found some unassessed FAs in there. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 10:12, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
All singles at {{U2}} tagged; only one had previously been tagged for IrlProj! What a vast universe of untagged articles must be out there......Sarah777 (talk) 22:55, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
Thanks, I'm sure there are still lots of untagged articles. Are you aware of User:AlexNewArtBot/IrelandSearchResult that lists newly created potentially Irish related articles. I presume you actually mean {{U2 singles}} as I finished {{U2}} yesterday, so now all the U2 articles should be tagged. Look out for the next big unassessed category. Have a great weekend. ww2censor (talk) 23:25, 14 January 2017 (UTC)
Yep - I meant the singles. Was not aware of User:AlexNewArtBot/IrelandSearchResult - I will explore it Sarah777 (talk) 17:54, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

More Wiki political bias

Now, let me be clear I'd not be a fan of the "Daily Mail"....but it is probably, on balance, more of a reliable source on current controversial political issues than Wikipedia: [3] Yet more evidence that this is a haven for "liberal" neo-imperialists.... Sarah777 (talk) 23:49, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

Um... a biased, agenda-pushing, xenophobic, misogynistic, scaremongering, fake news neo-liberal rag is ruled to not be reliable, yet you're saying this is a bad thing? /scratches head... :-D BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 10:11, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
I'm saying you are embedding your own political bias in what can be regarded as "reliable sources" - a concept that I have long long ago exposed as a politically slanted Wiki conceit. Irrelevant whether I agree with the Daily Mail or not. Sarah777 (talk) 23:27, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
Interesting the list of objections in your rant: "biased, agenda-pushing, xenophobic, misogynistic, scaremongering, fake news neo-liberal". The only objection that would merit disregarding the Mail as a "reliable source" would be "fake news". The rest is mere pov. So, in terms of "fake news", how does the Mail differ from the rest of the MSM? Sarah777 (talk) 23:32, 9 February 2017 (UTC)
Shorter syllables, mostly. BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 09:31, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

Does this interest you?

Not really! :) But the "article" should indeed be deleted. Sarah777 (talk) 22:14, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
I did not mean the article but the deletion nomination! Keep well. ww2censor (talk) 22:48, 20 March 2017 (UTC)

Any chance of you getting a photo to add to this article? Hope all is well. ww2censor (talk) 09:50, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Hi WW - all is tip-top...just very busy with RL :) I don't have a photo but I'll get one next time I pass by...it isn't so far from my current nest Sarah777 (talk) 08:40, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
Good show. I thought this might be near you. If I fins anything else in the general area, I'll drop you a note as I probably won't even visit until at least October. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 09:56, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

Civility

Your tone is highly confrontational and insulting, it does not matter if you think you car calling peoples arguments pathetic (frankly it did not read that way to me, it read like you were saying we were acting pathetically) is not going to convince people. It can also be said that the rather offensive comment about a cat being lucky to be dead is (as I said) both offensive and rather nasty. As it you (rather) constatn refrain of "LMFAO!", as well as accusations of censorship. You might not want to get an admin involved, as your tone will (I suspect) get you a topic ban.Slatersteven (talk) 18:35, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

"the rather offensive comment about a cat being lucky to be dead" - Lmfao even more! Sarah777 (talk) 18:40, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
your tone will (I suspect) get you a topic ban - don't doubt it for a minute as the Admins in charge of that article are clearly happy with a title that is manifestly in breach of WP:NPOV Sarah777 (talk) 18:44, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
Admins are not in charge of any article. If you think there is admin boas you should report the fact.Slatersteven (talk) 18:46, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
I have no idea what "Admin boas" is...is it the same as claims that WP:NPOV prevails in relation to the Russian Interference article? Complete gibberish? Sarah777 (talk) 18:54, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
Look at my user page.Slatersteven (talk) 18:56, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
I have. You don't like the Daily Mail..I'm not a great fan of either the Mail or censorship of its pov...not least when the Mail's critics cite American spooks as "reliable sources"! Where does that bizarreness come from? Hatred of Trump uber alles? Sarah777 (talk) 19:01, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
It also says I am dyslexic.Slatersteven (talk) 19:14, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
Hmm...so did you or did you not support labeling the Daily Mail as an "unreliable" source? Now while you consider your reply I'll just note that you do appear to regard US black-ops organisations (aka "the Intelligence Community"!) as reliable sources provided some Corporate Western MSM "RS" is willing to claim the spooks are a reliable source this time around! - correct me if I'm wrong. Sarah777 (talk) 22:50, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
If I had said "and the US intel community have said it is true, and that is all that matters" I would seek to justify that position. But I will not seek to justify a position I did not take.Slatersteven (talk) 07:51, 25 July 2017 (UTC)
What I said was "I'll just note that you do appear to regard US black-ops organisations (aka "the Intelligence Community"!) as reliable sources provided some Corporate Western MSM "RS" is willing to claim the spooks are a reliable source" To which you reply...."If I had said "and the US intel community have said it is true, and that is all that matters I would seek to justify that position"
I'm sure you would. But that does not address the point I made - and have now repeated.
Maybe try again? Without putting any straw men in the mix? Sarah777 (talk) 21:55, 25 July 2017 (UTC)

The Great Ball of Naas [4]

I've seen various pics of mine all over the place in the print meeja down the years...but today I made the Irish Times !! Greatest life-time achievement apart from winning the Bingo in Baltinglass in 2009 :)

Assessments

In the last few days BHG has tagged several thousand Irish-related articles. I don't even know where she found them all but today the unassessed are over 5,000. Hopefully you can help out. Happy Paddy's Day to you. ww2censor (talk) 11:08, 17 March 2018 (UTC)

@Ww2censor: I found them by doing big WP:AWB list comparisons. There are a few thousand more in the pipeline.
Most of them will be stubs, so I will use AWB to tag them as such. I just did a v crude check on the 6,430 pages currently in Category:Unassessed Ireland articles, and was able to positively identify 2380 of them as stubs. I'm sure that other checks will find many more.
So I suggest holding off any manual assessments for a week or so, until I have finished the AWB runs.
Happy St Patricks Day to you both. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:36, 17 March 2018 (UTC)
I'm now waiting for the match and hope my proxy works. Ok thanks BHG. ww2censor (talk) 14:03, 17 March 2018 (UTC)
I've got a new job coming up then! (Looking out at a blizzard at the moment)....Regards all Sarah777 (talk) 11:18, 18 March 2018 (UTC)
Lots of work to do then. We should try to recruit more editors to assess the Irish articles. A friend just phoned me, having turned back home to Rathgar from Newtownmountkennedy, where there were idiots in smaller cars than his 4-wheel drive Range Rover overtaking at 80-100 kmph! ww2censor (talk) 15:09, 18 March 2018 (UTC)

Still tagging lots more. A few false positives, which editors kindly revert ... but then something to amuse me, and maybe you too @Sarah777 and Ww2censor.

This[5]. Wow. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 17:11, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

Ireland CatNavProposal

Hi Sarah777

Many thanks for taking the time to assess WP:IECATNAVP. I am sorry that there is so much of it to wade through and so many options to consider. I was torn between setting out all the issues and possibilities which I had encountered on the way, and keeping it brief. As usual with me, I probably erred on the side of verbosity and complexity. Sorry.

Feedback is being collected on the talk page (WT:IECATNAVP), so I have moved[6] your comments[7] to the #Initial discussion section there, alongside the feedback from others. I hope that's OK.

Again, thanks very much for taking the time to wade through it all. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 14:46, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

Don't thank me BHG! You have put in some amazing work...Sarah777 (talk) 22:10, 20 April 2018 (UTC)

They tried to delete this file 'cos the wirescape in Ahascragh on a miserable day ain't pretty....but nobody else, apparently, bothered to upload a pic of this allegedly pretty village. Not even the deletion proposer :)

Anyone got a decent photo of this maligned place?

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Sarah777. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

March 2019

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1932 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

- MrX 🖋 00:41, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

Absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Care to be more explicit? Sarah777 (talk) 00:44, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
It refers to your edit at Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections. Pages like are battlegrounds where every word is disputed. The Arbitration Committee has ruled that discretionary sanctions apply to the topic and that means an editor, once notified, will be blocked if they repeat edits. See the edit notice for that article and the links in the above if keen. Johnuniq (talk) 00:55, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
(edit conflict) You reverted my edit on a controversial American politics article without so much as an edit summary. In fact, you used rollback which is against policy. Was it an accident, or is it possible that your account has been compromised? - MrX 🖋 00:56, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
  • This is the classic doublespeak warning box. It's simultaneously a threat, and yet all nice and smiley so that there can be no accusations of threatening behaviour when they're issued. Ignore it. Any restrictions applied just the same, with or without this box. Some editors, mostly admins, are a bit of a nightmare for using them in a hostile manner. Andy Dingley (talk) 11:34, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
You seem woefully uninformed. The alert is required before an editor can be sanctioned under Arbcom applied discretionary sanctions. The discretionary sanctions have kept the post-1932 American politics topic area from becoming a chaotic mess. The alert is for the benefit of the project, but also for the benefit of the editor who probably would prefer not to be blocked or topic banned. In this case, it also provided an opportunity to let Sarah777 know that rollback cannot be used to revert disputed content.- MrX 🖋 11:53, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
OK, three things.
(1) I was not aware that "post-1932 American politics topic area" was in danger of becoming a chaotic mess.
(2) I was not aware this was "disputed content"....it appeared to me that you had reverted a factual statement with one that appears to be in breach of WP:NPOV. Your edit came up on my watchlist and I assumed your edit was vandalism. I did not say that in the edit summary as one can never be certain and describing any but the most extreme trolling as "vandalism" is not in the spirit of collaborative editing.
(3) " The alert is required before an editor can be sanctioned under Arbcom applied discretionary sanctions" certainly sounds threatening to me Sarah777 (talk) 22:26, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

Bad Bot

It seems the IrlProject table has ceased updating (again - it happened in 2014). Would somebody, somewhere our there, please fix it? Last time WW manually updated it...or something. Basically what I'm saying - as they do on YouTube music videos - 2019, is anyone watching? Sarah777 (talk) 01:08, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

Yeah, there are people watching but I don't think you are watching this page Wikipedia talk:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Index where you will see the bot has been misbehaving and is still having many problems and for quite a long time. Added to that is the fact that now there is a migration to some different tool server, so don't even ask. It's a pain, though for now the tables do seem to be being created almost daily but the links don't work at all, so one can't see the lists of articles one would like to. Apparently it's highly specialised coding to get things working which were let lapse for quite a long time. ww2censor (talk) 18:04, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
You are right WW, I am not now and never have watched that page! So, what you are saying is we are DOOMED? Sarah777 (talk) 22:34, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
I mean - I give them €10 every so often when they come begging - what are they doing with all that money? :) Sarah777 (talk) 22:38, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
All that money!! I'm not sure but now that I'm an OTRS agent too perhaps they will throw a few crumbs our way; well that's as likely as hell freezing over! The bot is now working again crating the tables User:WP 1.0 bot/Tables/Project/Ireland and the links work too, so finding articles for assessments is again possible. Unfortunately the daily logs are not working. I believe that is being rewritten. ww2censor (talk) 10:58, 30 March 2019 (UTC)
Was gonna wish you a Happy April Fools...but I missed it :)
Good to see you are getting "them" to fix things...it's scary to think how much we all depend on "them" - in my case I've forgotten even basic editing techniques compared to the my wiki-editing halcyon days of 2006 - 2008. Even adding a reference to something in an article is now slow and painful. Woe is me! Sarah777 (talk) 00:20, 3 April 2019 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not censored...LMFAO!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not#Wikipedia_is_not_censored

"Wikipedia may contain content that some readers consider objectionable or offensive‍—‌even exceedingly so. Attempting to ensure that articles and images will be acceptable to all readers, or will adhere to general social or religious norms, is incompatible with the purposes of an encyclopedia.

Content will be removed if it is judged to violate Wikipedia policies (especially those on biographies of living persons and neutral point of view) or the laws of the United States (where Wikipedia is hosted). "

No doubt if it was hosted in China there would be different laws and different "non-censorship" :) Sarah777 (talk) 21:48, 29 November 2019 (UTC)

I added a few items and citations to the list. Maybe you can find some more. ww2censor (talk) 17:28, 1 December 2019 (UTC)
Thanks Ww. My issue is with the rule (?) that events in the list must be referenced in the list. 95% or more of the events/people listed are linked to wiki articles which contain the independent sources. It isn't true that the 1295 list "does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published" - it's just that they are located in linked articles. This practice has been in use for over a decade after discussions around in back in 2008/2010 - can't remember the details. For over a decade myself and others have been slowly populating these lists with events that are referenced in other wiki articles. Sarah777 (talk) 18:23, 1 December 2019 (UTC)
Um! I tend to agree with your viewpoint but now look (below) what happened after a bit of work: so we can keep some people happy. It seems that some editors are getting much stricter on enforcing policy and guidelines. Actually everything is stricter than it was 10 or more years ago when I joined up. My 14th anniversary is actually tomorrow. Anyway, all's well that end's well. Looking around wikipedia alone there are a few other people and events that would fit with this article, but honestly I don't have much time. Good luck, Sarah. ww2censor (talk) 11:51, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

It is a list, not a stub. Lists don't get quality ratings. List is the quality rating. You might check that out - given you are prone to referring me to WP:POLICIES you are misinterpreting. Sarah777 (talk) 21:06, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

Wiki's Circular thinking?

Following Cassie's suggested reading material (specifically WP:42) this referred to reliable sources. So I clicked on the link and got this:

Articles should be based on reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. This means that we publish the opinions only of reliable authors, and not the opinions of Wikipedians who have read and interpreted primary source material for themselves. The following examples cover only some of the possible types of reliable sources and source reliability issues, and are not intended to be exhaustive. Proper sourcing always depends on context; common sense and editorial judgment are an indispensable part of the process.

So, the explanation of what Wiki defines as "reliable" resorts to the use of the word and its derivatives six times in four sentences! Sarah777 (talk) 21:27, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

Bureauocracy on steroids!

As a result of the references added I submitted this "draft for review" - this is what popped up

{{AFC submission|||ts=20191201182750|u=Sarah777|ns=118}}

Based on that best bet would be to delete the list and recreate it! Since when did some "committee" need to review whether enough references have been added? The normal "citation needed" tags would be a far better and less disruptive approach the problem. Sarah777 (talk) 18:34, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

I've nowiki'ed your AFC submission tags, as it is making your page show up as an AFC draft when it is not one. If you want to make your point you would likey be better off taking a picture of it and uploading it to commons.CodeLyokotalk 03:43, 3 December 2019 (UTC)
Sorry about that! I've made my point now and I'll quit while I'm behind Sarah777 (talk) 19:27, 3 December 2019 (UTC)

  • Sorry, but the onus is on you to support content with sources. And the number of non notable shops in a town is most surely trivial. 2601:188:180:B8E0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 03:20, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
Not trivial - that's a bit subjective and I might even agree with you to an extent - merely unreferenced. Adding the tag is best practice for collaborative editing. If you get no references within a reasonable period I'll delete the material myself. Put a deadline in perhaps? Sarah777 (talk) 03:29, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
You've been editing here as long as have I, so you know the landscape. The section was started over ten years ago by a WP:COI account, listing non notable local business based on original research [8]. For me, it shouldn't have lasted ten minutes, let alone a decade. Cheers, 2601:188:180:B8E0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 03:39, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
I'm just a very patient collaborative editor....set a time limit - there are literally hundreds of such local shop lists unreferenced in Irish village and town articles. Feel free to clean out the stables - but give a bit of warning Sarah777 (talk) 03:42, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
Having said that I'm constantly removing unreferenced "notable people" - but only those without a wikilink - many are obvious vandalism and possibly libelous - like "Mick Flaherty, headbanger" etc Sarah777 (talk) 03:49, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
I appreciate it, and welcome collaboration. But the time limit passed as soon as the Milltown account posted the section. Nor do we 'give warnings' before removing unsourced original research. Best of luck, 2601:188:180:B8E0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 03:59, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
You're a hard man - as they'd say in Milltown. Sarah777 (talk) 04:04, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
You made me smile. Don't mean to be. It just seems you're bargaining over something that's sort of non-negotiable in Wikiland. 2601:188:180:B8E0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 04:06, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

kilmainhamwood

At Dún Laoghaire#Rail history you did an edit with a summary "add kilmainhamwood". I was troubled by this ... and in the end tweaked and cited the whole Rail history section. (In retrospect it has some omissions which the History section and I am this morning minded the whole "Rail history" section would be better replaced by a current line or two for rail under public transport and to cite the bit which is in History. Anyway, do you have any comments on "add kilmainhamwood" or was it e.g. a random paste? thankyou.? Djm-leighpark (talk) 10:36, 6 December 2019 (UTC)

I added Kilmainhamwood to the List of towns and villages in the Republic of Ireland - I'm not sure how I involved Dún Laoghaire#Rail history as Kilmainhamwood is in County Meath...the summary doesn't seem to reflect any change I made - I assume it's a cut and paste error. Apologies. Sarah777 (talk) 18:40, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
Ah now 'tis great craic. The bigger craic will be if I give Edgeworthstown their Toponymy and if you come after me if I do ... or if I move Carlisle Pier to Dún Laoghaire Harbour ? ... the Ballysadare's now have it but I am wondering if I should have given them the geography instead ? Apologies for the delayed reply...I've been skiing :) I guess the test of "notability" in this case is - "is it a populated place?" There were people living there in 1910...but today? Sarah777 (talk) 20:39, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

Tragic that this file became orphaned. But in my country, we don't eliminate orphans, we find them a home...Sarah777 (talk) 05:01, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
I added a full information template and moved it to the commons as File:Naas Road at CityWest County Dublin.jpg. It only took a few minutes to save your little orphan. You're welcome. ww2censor (talk) 10:49, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

Two questions....Did Jimmy ever get his passport? Why when this talk page is archived, does everything from Dripsey River to Jimmy's passport remain here...forever...? 188.141.53.102 (talk) 12:16, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Undated posts don't seem to get archived and I've added two parameters that may help a bit. Let's see what happens, otherwise just archive them manually. ww2censor (talk) 14:58, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

R581 road (Ireland)

Dear Sarah777. You created the article R581 road (Ireland). I do not know anything about articles about roads in Wikipedia and suspect you are an expert in the matter. I came across some information about the realignment of the R581 between Doneraile and New Twopothouse that seems to have been completed in 2013. It was preceded by an archaeological investigation done by Rubicon Heritage in 2011 during which the foundations of Caherduggan Castle were uncovered. I did not want to boldly insert content into your article that is perhaps not notable or still too poorly researched. I came across this information while working on the article Redmond Roche (MP). I thought you might be interested. With thanks and best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 06:37, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

Sounds like it is suitable for inclusion and these articles need more information. Add whatever you have and, of course, references would be great! Sarah777 (talk) 20:13, 22 May 2021 (UTC)

Great photo from '93 at Ballina

You can commemorate the "cabal of the outcast" at Gerda Arendt's page. I'd like to write more about Irish railways but I don't have much source material. Is the Waterford - Rosslare line now permanently out of service and never coming back? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 20:25, 11 June 2021 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Ritchie333: This might be of interest but does not actually answer your question. ww2censor (talk) 21:11, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
Good news Ww!? I'm not someone who says all rail closures were wrong - far from it. But closing one Linking Rosslare, Waterford and Cork appears a bit short-sighted. Is the way still clear or like the Harcourt St Line at Foxrock and other places have they allowed back gardens to incorporate the ironically termed "permanent way"! - and built roads (M11) across it without any provision for the future? Sarah777 (talk) 21:52, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
Hmm..this only seems to concern the Wexford - Waterford bit. Of course the Waterford Greenway and a hobby rail section now cover the bit between Waterford and Dungarvan and the Bridge Over the River Suir is long gone. Sarah777 (talk) 21:59, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
