I am having trouble uploading an image to any article. Actually, two different problems. When I try to upload from my laptop, I get the error "Failed to load the configuration for file uploads to the foreign file repository." When I try uploading from my phone (which is already less than ideal), I am able to upload but when I try to save I get a message saying Wikipedia was unable to determine if I am allowed to post the photo, or something like that. The image I want to use is a diagram I created using Google Drawing - no images are included aside from the diagram, which is entirely my own work. Could someone help me resolve either of these issues?

If this is related to the section below this one, then I honestly don't know if I should help you. There is no point in uploading an image and placing it on a page just to revert everything you've done. I'll leave the help request open, but I felt I should at least say something. The point of doing so is, as I already explained, to complete the assignment. As I have also already explained, once I get the page as I want it - and all I have left to do now is upload a few images - you can revert the entire page for all I care. I know that is not really the intended use of Wikipedia, but it will only need to last for a matter of minutes. So, yes, there is a point, and it's frustrating that you would take such a personal stake in my assignment and edits rather than just helping me.Samwalbert (talk) 02:43, 24 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Fair point. Please tell your teacher/professor that using Wikipedia as a sandbox is not ideal. We have the Wiki Education Foundation if they want to use Wikipedia as an educational tool. Now, as to your question, in re-reading through it I honestly can't help you, because I don't know how to bypass those issues. Have you tried using the Upload Wizard on Commons? I will certainly mention that to him. I can't load that page for some reason, but I think it may be an error with some internet filtering I have setup through OpenDNS. I'll fiddle with that and see if it helps.Samwalbert (talk) 02:49, 24 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I was able to resolve the issue with uploading files and complete the page insofar as my assignment is concerned. I'll download a pdf, get a permanent link to this version, and leave any editing up to other users. While I do think this example is helpful, I understand there are content guidelines that this may not follow, so I won't take it personally if you do remove it. Edits on Shear Flow[edit]

Hello Samwalbert, I was patrolling through the recent changes queue and I came across the additions you have been making to Shear flow. Your current section you are working on is a step by step example, which is not in line with an encyclopedia article. I would recommend reading through WP:NOT and more specifically Wikipedia:NOTTEXTBOOK where is states that "It is not appropriate to create or edit articles that read as textbooks, with leading questions and systematic problem solutions as examples. These belong on our sister projects, such as Wikibooks, Wikisource, and Wikiversity." I would suggest that you look into those projects and see if this example would be better there. I hope that you stay and keep contributing in an encyclopedia way! Hey Imminent77, thanks for the feedback! I suspected as much, but I am editing this page for a class project and was specifically asked to include an example. Thus, as soon as I can get the image uploader to work, I can finish the page, send him a pdf, and then it's totally fine with me if it gets taken down. (edit conflict) Sam, you can always view the page history by clicking the "View History" tab near the top of the page. You'll be able to find your edit, view the page as it used to be.
