Notability of USGenWeb[edit]

A tag has been placed on USGenWeb requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

Hi Samuelsenwd. The above comment by Aboutmovies is overly harsh and is to be deprecated.

Congratulations on your research on Mary Ramsey Wood. I realize that some of the comments I made in the past weren't exactly kind to the family, but my goal is really to get the facts right, whereas some editors seem to think editing on Wikipedia is all about their personal ego.

The bottom line is that it's clear that Mary Ramsey Wood's year of birth is not entirely certain, but was most likely to have occurred in the 1808-1811 period, not 1787. Newspapers at the turn of the century were far more willing to believe stories of living to "120." My own grandfather was said to have lived to be "108" (not true--he was 80-something).Ryoung122 06:11, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ryyoung, I hope the ego comment wasn't directed at me, as I'm not the one who wrote an autobiography on myself published on Wikipedia. But, no, the warning stands, we do not tolerate personal attacks, so there is no depreciation on the warning.
