Creating new pages[edit]

Hi, thanks for creating the Nathan F Cobb ship article. The way you created the article did make a few problems which needed an admin to correct. The easiest way to create new articles is to make your own sandbox and work on your article there. Once ready to release, copy the text and just type the title of the new article in the search box on the left, and then click on the red link that appears and then paste the copied text and save. A new article will be created. Best wishes Mjroots (talk) 15:22, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've reviewed the article's GA nomination. Please refer to the talk page for my comments. Please let me know when you've responded to them so I can make a final decision. - Mgm|(talk) 10:36, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Nathan F Cobb article is a great shipwreck story. I edited with the GA nomination in mind. Please see Mgm's last two suggested corrections as I wasn't able to address them this morning. --Wpwatchdog (talk) 15:15, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for contributing such an interesting shipwreck story. I am pretty new to Wikipedia too but I have learned by going through the WP:GAN process. This is the first time I worked to promote someone else's article to WP:GA status. I am sure not an expert and it is really your baby. I just checked out Early American Steamers by Erik Heyl from the library. It is a three volume set but unfortunately the Nathan F Cobb was not included. I believe you are correct that there is very little information out there on the Nathan F Cobb. --Wpwatchdog (talk) 09:54, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What a great find! You were really able to fill in information about the rescue by finding the "Annual Report of the Operations of the United States Life-Saving Services for the Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 1897." I think the New York Times 1892 article should be used. How about adding a new section at the beginning of the article called "History"? In this section you could quote the author William Armstrong Fairburn that desired data about many vessels built in Rockland, Maine between 1837 and 1920 has not been preserved, explain the only known statistics on the vessel, and then report the only other known history about the Nathan F Cobb that made the New York Times in 1892? --Wpwatchdog (talk) 15:11, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'll review the article again within the next 48 hours. - Mgm|(talk) 09:09, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've posted a follow-up GA review for Nathan F. Cobb. Let me know when you've addressed the issues or need any clarifications. (Please inform me with a comment on my talk page in a new section. I've been known to overlook comments posted in earlier sections of other people also leave me notes around the same time) - Mgm|(talk) 09:40, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sorry, but I'm still gonna nag about the image. You don't need to add you used the coordinates of the sign in the image. It takes up space and how you created it is better served in the image description. Also there are some typos:
  1. Ga should be GA
  2. "Left Port on December 1, 1896" and "Ran Aground December 5, 1896" aren't consistent. One uses "on" and the other doesn't and both use unneccesary capital letters (as does the legend). I suggest: "Left port: December 1, 1896" and "Ran aground: December 5, 1896"
  3. The starting point can use some spicing up. Any suggestions for an image for that port?
  4. The image title should probably go on top. - Mgm|(talk) 16:45, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • ref 3 didn't specify the casualties were a cook and a mate. Did I miss it? Please give the page number, otherwise you should cite another source for that and put ref 3 with the previous sentence. - 87.211.75.45 (talk) (Mgm, too lazy to log in) 17:02, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Tomorrow, I'll make another pass of the references. If they check out, and the outstanding issues are resolved, I'll promote. - Mgm|(talk) 19:48, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • "J.D. Price, then owner of the Hotel Ormond, noticed the stranded vessel in the surf and gathered a group of people to assist in the rescue efforts.[5]" The ref stated he was the owner of the hotel, but it didn't mention the cobb (not that I could notice). Can you pick another source? Mgm|(talk) 10:00, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, it would be trivial for a reader to make the connection, but you'd need both sources to make it work. - Mgm|(talk) 19:19, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm about to do a final check. Do you want to make any last minute changes to the article? - Mgm|(talk) 20:43, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Article is now promoted to GA status. Enjoy! - Mgm|(talk) 22:38, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Congratulations on the well-deserved promotion of the article to GA status. --Wpwatchdog (talk) 13:52, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
