Hi from Supdiop

Thread retitled from "Hi".

Hi Sam Sailor, I instructed him to submit the draft on IRC. Later looking at the condition of the draft, I thought it's better to improve the draft before submitting. Thanks - Supdiop (T🔹C) 11:47, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

You removed a reference (the only one) in the process. No worries. -- Sam Sailor Talk! 11:49, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
Yes, I removed it because it was a primary source anyway. - Supdiop (T🔹C) 12:00, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
So? Don't do that. -- Sam Sailor Talk! 12:01, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
Why? Aren't we allowed to edit drafts? - Supdiop (T🔹C) 12:05, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
Yes, same rules apply in draft space as in main space. Has nothing to do with you removing the ref in Diff of Draft:Non-Discrimination Symbol without any explanation. -- Sam Sailor Talk! 12:10, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Help for an article

Hey I just saw that you declined my article. This person is a reputed singer and dance and is famous in many places. I am new to wikipedia so I would be thankful to you if you could help me out here. Thank you Draft: Umer Jubapu

  • If he is reputed and famous it will be easy to find sources and show his notability. Please read the advice given in the pink and grey box on the draft: follow the links, read the instructions, then ameliorate the draft accordingly. Please sign your posts on talk pages per Wikipedia:Sign your posts on talk pages. Thanks! -- Sam Sailor Talk! 12:44, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for the help! I have completed The Wikipedia Adventure and I feel it has made me a better Wikipedian. :) Keep doing what you do! JLanzer (talk) 15:02, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Akamai revert

Sam, the problem is that there are other WP articles using the word Akamai besides the corporate one. The disambiguation page lists them. But if you enter Akamai, you get sent to the corporate article. This short circuits the disambiguation page and keeps anyone who just remembers Akamai and doesn't remember the other relevant words (such as "v. Limelight" or "Foundation") from being able to find any of the other Akamai entries. This redirect should never have been created.

Is it worth the trouble to fix? I will leave it up to you, since you undid my possibly inept attempt to fix it. PraeceptorIP (talk) 15:24, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for your message, PraeceptorIP. It's a little difficult to add something that has not already been said at Talk:Akamai by User:Niceguyedc. At Akamai (disambiguation) we have a Wictionary link and:
Akamai may refer to:
  • Akamai Technologies, a company that develops software for web content and application delivery
  • Akamai, a Bionicle toy combined from the Tahu, Pohatu, and Onua sets
  • The word "akamai" is defined in Wiktionary as intelligent, smart, clever (see link at upper right)
Is it possible that somebody out there thinks e.g. about the court case when they think of the word "Akamai". Could be.
Is it possible that somebody out there thinks e.g. about the Foundation when they think of the word "Akamai". Could be.
But that does not change what I assume is the logic applied here: is it likely that most people when they think of the word "Akamai" are looking for the company, Akamai Technologies? And from Akamai Technologies we have a hatnote to Akamai (disambiguation). Makes good sense to me. Historically it's likely cases like this that spured people to carve a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT into stone. Best, -- Sam Sailor Talk! 18:09, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Irish goodbye edit

Hello, Sam. I confess I haven't done much Wikipedia editing, so I'm not sure to go about what I was trying to do. I was trying to remove the redirect for "Irish goodbye," which currently goes to a fairly unremarkable recording artist for the title of one album. The real meaning of the phrase, to leave a party or social gathering without telling anyone or saying goodbye, might not even be notable enough for a full Wiki page... but it also shouldn't be used for this rather obscure redirect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.163.197.148 (talk) 22:53, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi 75.163.197.148. I get what you are saying, and I see your point. I'm just not sure what to do in this case, so I have posted at WP:HD. Thanks, I think your point is valid. Best, -- Sam Sailor Talk! 23:07, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
I turned Irish Goodbye into a DAB including a {{Wiktionary}} link, have a look. -- Sam Sailor Talk! 05:49, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

Draft: First Order (Star Wars)

Hello it's me again. I would like to inform you that my intentions for my article Draft: First Order (Star Wars) were to get it accepted in hopes that other users would add to it. I feel, and with all do respect Sam, that you declined my article for the wrong reason(s); "The new Star Wars film hasn't been released yet, so much of the content of this draft appears speculative. Sections like 'Much like the old Empire, the First Order employed the services of Force-sensitives' appear to be based on guesses from the trailers." Anyone who is a Star Wars fan knows that Lego has First Order products that almost to that of the Galactic Empire, except the first order has different liveries from the Empire. Now as for the sources, I can add more if necessary, but other than that I'd say my article is ready to be accepted. JLanzer (talk) 23:39, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

My bad, I had mistaken you for somebody else, can you still review my article? I will inform the reviewer about the stated above. JLanzer (talk) 23:45, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
@JLanzer: Yup, it's User:Wikiisawesome you want to contact. Best, -- Sam Sailor Talk! 23:46, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
@JLanzer: With 18500 Gnews hits on "First Order" "Star Wars" you should think there was, arhmm, just about enough mention to show notability (irony intended). -- Sam Sailor Talk! 23:53, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
@Sam Sailor: Lol (excuse my informality). I will get right on that. Thanks! JLanzer (talk) 23:55, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

I believe that with the new language and references now incorporated into the revised submission, I have totally addressed the "notability" issue, per WIKIPEDIA guidelines, which "notability" was the reason for the initial decline. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Frank.everett.white (talkcontribs) 12:43, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

My fans are questioning me on social media

May I know why you deleted my user page description? It was the direct way where my fans could get in touch with my songs and blogs. Umer Jubapu (talk) 19:51, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

  • @Umer Jubapu: The criteria for deletion was posted on your talk page, quod vide. Wikipedia is NOT a place for promotion, stick to e.g. social media. My advice: go do what you like and enjoy: music, dancing. If one day you make it, somebody else will write your biography on Wikipedia. Good luck! -- Sam Sailor Talk! 20:02, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Question

I understand about deleting the draft: Umer Jubapu page but is it allowed to edit someone's user page? Umer Jubapu (talk) 20:12, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

I don't think anybody edited your promotional user page prior to it being deleted. We usually leave each other's user page alone, but that goes for editors that sincerely are here to help build the world's biggest encyclopedia. Several other options exist for user pages that are e.g. just cheap attempts to promote a product or a person. -- Sam Sailor Talk! 20:22, 29 October 2015 (UTC)

Missing subheadings

Thanks for helping with Draft:Synchronous Link Control article. The issue here is Missing subheadings on the page Wikipedia:Template_messages. It appears to me those subheading refs once existed; and later, the Page was improved by eliminating then and replacing their text with some king of wikibox. Sam, how are their edits disruptive? It looks like you're giving them template warnings for perfectly valid edits, and it's weird. — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 19:15, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
It's long time block evasion. Sam Sailor Talk! 19:16, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

I am sorry but that's just not true, Sam.
Stop kneejerking Sam and setting up another bogus accusation. Think about what's going on here for just one moment.
This is not vandalism or disruption. It's all perfectly valid and documented in academia.
Speak to me. What on earth do you think is going on? Those edits are all perfectly valid, what's your motivation in this situation? --79.64.210.79 (talk) 19:18, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
Okay. Why bother with the warnings then? Anyway, alright. — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 19:20, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Lucyintheskywithdada. For the disruption, to me the main part is the absolute insistence that sources supporting their view are correct and everything else is faked and therefore can be ignored. There are sources for both dates, at this point both probably need to be noted with a very brief mention (maybe as a note?) about the dispute. Block-evasion and a strong sense of WP:TRUTH, all wrapped in one. Ravensfire (talk) 19:24, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

@All: Please refer to my 22k post in Diff of Talk:Dada Lekhraj. There are no reliable sources supporting 1884 as the year of birth. I could not care less what agenda Brahma Kumaris may have had in the past of may have today, the only thing that matters here is what the sources say. And they all say 1876.

@IP: Please return if new, reliable sources become available, but until then please do not return to my talk page with the same unsupported rant. Sam Sailor Talk! 19:31, 3 November 2015 (UTC) P.S. Thanks, @Ravensfire:

I am sorry but I just don't know all these clever acronyms, therefore I am just going to communicate in plain English and long hand I am afraid.
What this is is just a storm kicked up Brahma Kumaris who seek to controlling any topic articles relating to their religion. It was started, here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Utcursch#SPI_for_block-evading_IP
deliberately by one of the BK adherents, Bksimonb.
I have, or at least had no outstanding blocks or bans and I am seemingly being bundled in with everyone else the BKs do not want to edit their topic pages.
I think you need to look a little deeper at what is going on here. It's another case like when the Scientologists were fighting over their topic pages. --79.64.210.79 (talk) 19:34, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
@All; Please don't invite this individual back for anything until he has addressed the reasons for his original block as Lucyintheskywithdada. It is >80 unique IPs and accounts later (when you count the Januarythe8th line also) and usually the chances of a successful appeal diminish with further attempts to evade a block. I personally don't think this individual really cares much about the 1884 issue either. It is just a pressure-point to make a conspiracy theory plausible since WP:THUTH is one of the aspects of WIkipedia that people unfamiliar with WIkipedia maybe don't expect. I have reached the conclusion that it is really all about attention. From experience, when every single thing he posts on any page, talk page, or user talk page is reverted immediately then he will stop for between a few weeks and a year. Thanks for your work in relisting AfD discussions, which helps to keep matters in order. North America1000 07:06, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
@Northamerica1000: Thank you, a cuppa is always appreciated, and it's dawn over here. While we're at it, what's your personal opinion on relisting for a third or fourth time rather than closing with "No consensus with NPASR"? Sam Sailor Talk! 07:11, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Hi Sam: I generally follow the guideline at WP:RELIST. However, sometimes it is appropriate to relist a third time when particular circumstances occur, such as when a bunch of new sources are found and presented in a discussion, or when other matters that demonstrate topic notability come to light, such as how a topic may be notable as per secondary notability guidelines. Just a couple of examples. North America1000 07:16, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. Sam Sailor Talk! 12:54, 6 November 2015 (UTC)

Music

Could you take another look at Draft:Tom Powers (musician)? I think it qualifies for WP:MUSICBIO #2, but I'm definitely not an expert in the area. WhatamIdoing (talk) 18:02, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

  • @WhatamIdoing: Thanks for your message. Yes, I know he had a hit single, I added the {{cite book}}. WP:MUSICBIO says "Musicians may be notable if they meet at least one of the following criteria". May is the key word. My biggest concern with this draft is that it was written by his widow, is in general sourced only by the SPS of subject's web site, and that searches leaves me very empty handed. If you think about accepting the draft I would suggest ... well, I was about to say condense all those two and three-lines heading 2 sections into one Biography section and cut away the unsourced puffery ... problem just is, there's almost nothing to write that has not been said in the lead, so maybe a TOC-less article where everything is condensed? I have my doubts it would survive in main space with the current sourcing, but I could be wrong. I'm sorry I'm not to much help here. Sam Sailor Talk! 18:39, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

I don't deal with music stuff normally, so I don't know what the typical AFD looks like. With some WP:SNGs, "may be notable" means "more than 99.9% of the time". In other SNGs, it's "maybe, maybe not". My guess is that meeting that objective requirement plus having written a state song would result in keep !votes, but hopefully you know more about that area than I do.
I'm not super worried about either the short sections or the puffery. Some of it's "factual" (large audiences = measurable), even if it the WP:TONE isn't perfect. WhatamIdoing (talk) 02:05, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

  • To me, a level-2 heading for every two or three-lines makes the reading choppy. It also leaves me with the impression that there isn't much to say. The only guideline I can think about that deals with this is MOS:PARAGRAPHS that says, "Short paragraphs and single sentences generally do not warrant their own subheading".
Yes, a statement like "he attracted large crowds" is measurable, but it is currently not verifiable as we can't find secondary sources.
A sentence like "Tom had musicians and singers joining him on stage and many went on to also become well-known." is just void of any substance.
A sentence like "He cultivated a strong following for his love, rock, and pop tunes." would probably only survive if it could be attributed to a notable commentator in a reliable source. Without such, it just screams WP:MEMORIAL.
A sentence like "His piano talents have been compared to those of Billy Joel, Elton John, Bruce Hornsby, and vocals to James Taylor, Edgar Winter and Michael McDonald." would only survive if it could be attributed. Without supporting sources it's just the normal WP:LARD.
All in all we have a COI-written tribute to a late husband and fellow performer (cf. http://www.jpowersband.com/) with the only secondary mentions being in passing, and I, like you, do not know if the fact that he had one hit-single and composed a US state song is enough to meet inclusion-criteria. If somebody felt like applying WP:BURDEN rigorously, there would not be much left. Why not post at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Pop music and ask for some opinions? G13 nominations

Hello Sam, please send no more Drafts to CSD as there are more than 50 Drafts for the Admins to review. Thanks, JMHamo (talk) 17:36, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, @JMHamo: We obviously need more admins. Where do you see this limit? Sam Sailor Talk! 17:39, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
In Category:Candidates for speedy deletion as abandoned AfC submissions. More than 50 will be reported as a backlog. JMHamo (talk) 19:05, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
That should not be a reason for not tagging. Has there been a discussion about this? Sam Sailor Talk! 19:08, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
I'm sure there has been on the AfC project Talk page in the past but I am staying out of this because there is too much drama when you bring stuff like this up... You are welcome to query it. JMHamo (talk) 19:14, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
@JMHamo: Hmmm, I can identify with your standpoint, but why would this matter cause any drama at all? It's a banal job, and the drafts I have been tagging are mostly outright A7ish or G11ish had they been in main space. Best, Sam Sailor Talk! 19:21, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

I agree, but the Admins make them rulez and they don't like more than fifty G13 nominations, as it's too much to review. I have no opinion either way, just wanted to make you aware. JMHamo (talk) 19:26, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

@JMHamo: I know, and thanks again. I have been searching the archives of WT:CSD and could not find it mentioned, but I believe you. But apart from the rules not being made by the admins alone, the situation highlights a bottleneck that should be dealt with in a more productive fashion. We have a backlog? Well, what are you waiting for, start working, don't stop and tell the other guys/gals to slow down. You're too few at your end of the production line? Call in some more hands. (None of that is about your, obviously.) Best, Sam Sailor Talk! 20:15, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
Two thoughts on this - (i) We are all volunteers here, so it's up to the individual to decide on their activity levels; even the Admins, backlog or no backlog. There's no "call in more hands" really.
(ii) With 42% of the 1330 Admins active, Wikipedia will never be backlog free, so it's something we'll have to accept. JMHamo (talk) 21:16, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
The project is based on us volunteering time, but if there is a constant backlog, there is a basic lack of people being productive. Whining about it is not a solution. And neither is something to accept. Sam Sailor Talk! 21:30, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
How do you propose making volunteers more productive if they can't or won't give up more of their time to the project than they already are? Wikipedia is a hobby, not a paying job, so I don't really understand your point. You could of course put yourself up for RfA but I have my own personal gripes with the whole RfA process which is a conversation for another day. JMHamo (talk) 21:38, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
I don't pretend to have a silver bullet; I can hardly imagine me being able to suggest something that has not already been said by others and said better in the past 10+ years of this project. I do pretend to know from working together with other people for 30+ years that getting the jobs done is far more rewarding than sulking about there's too much to do. Can this possibly be true? I am in the u.s. And the left wants nothing but as much bureaucratic control as they can get. 2602:306:3012:9B30:B13B:4AC0:55CE:DF7C (talk) 08:00, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

The fallacy here is the assumption that the Democratic Party has anything to do with anarchism. Sam Sailor Talk! 09:20, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

Hello, a move from King Scorpion to Scorpion II has been approved after a vote on the talk page of King Scorpion, essentially because "King Scorpion" is unscientific, is often confused with the movie "Scorpion King", and "Scorpion II" is the term universally used by Egyptologists to refer to the real king. However, the move cannot be made using the usual "Move" tool as the page "Scorpion II" already exists (it is a redirect to "King Scorpion"!). Hence a good old "Copy and Paste" move is the only solution. The purpose of this post is to inform you so you will not revert the manual move. Iry-Hor (talk) 08:25, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

@Iry-Hor: You'd still have to get rid of Scorpion II first and perform a normal move rather than a cut-and-paste move. Pinging Anthony Appleyard who could do it. Pinging other editors in the discussion (NephiliskosTasty love saladMarnetteDKhruner). Sam Sailor Talk! 09:13, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
Ok sounds good to me. Iry-Hor (talk) 09:37, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the ping Sam Sailor and thanks also to Anthony Appleyard for taking care of the move. Iry-Hor please note that one should never perform a "good old copy and paste move." Take a moment and read Wikipedia:Moving a page#Before moving a page especially the section that states
Do not move or rename a page by copying/pasting its content, because doing so fragments the edit history. (Wikipedia's copyright license requires acknowledgement of all contributors, and editors continue to hold copyright on their contributions unless they specifically give up this right. Hence it is required that edit histories be preserved for all major contributions until the normal copyright expires.)
Hopefully you have not performed a cut and paste move in the past. Please remember this information in the future. Apologies for taking up so much room on your talk page SS but this is an important item for I-H to be aware of. Cheers to everyone. MarnetteD|Talk 15:52, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

MarnetteD No worries I was waiting for a green light before doing it, I have never done it in the past (that I can remember of). Thanks for doing the job. Iry-Hor (talk) 16:21, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply Iry-Hor. There are so many things to be aware of in editing on WikiP. I've been here for over ten years and I still learn new stuff all the time. This move info is (IMO) very important. Also Anthony Appleyard deserves the credit for performing the move. Best regards. MarnetteD|Talk 16:27, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
MarnetteD well I will certainly be careful from now on whenever I need to move something! I have already thanked Anthony Appleyard for his swift work. I must admit I really like the "thank" button in edit histories. Iry-Hor (talk) 17:14, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

Agluukkaq

Just letting you know that I deleted Agluukkaq for multiple reasons. First, neither of the women spell their name with two "u"'s. Second, as per Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Disambiguation page or hatnotes? would suggest that with only two options a hat note is better. While I'm not really sure how the two last names, Aglukkaq and Aglukark, can be confused I went with the hat notes. Hi, I am writing in order to find out how I could improve the article about Dj Ventolin that I've submitted. Given the fact that there isn't much information about him on the internet, I couldn't add as many references as needed. He is a notable musician, that should be known also outside the Czech Republic, and that's why I chose to write a Wiki article about him. Could you please give me more specific information about the way I should treat this subject? Thank you in advance! Sorina Neaga

You made changes to this and many other templates. I haven't looked at the content changes, but you have caused all these templates to fall into the category of "CU needed" at WP:SPI. Please fix them as soon as possible. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 17:05, 15 November 2015 (UTC)

@JohnBlackburne: John, the problem was fixed by removing {{Checkuser needed}}. Sam Sailor Talk! 17:21, 15 November 2015 (UTC)

Ah; I could not see which of your two changes caused the problem, the edit summaries implied that each added more entries, while as looked at it the SPI page was incorrectly populated with many non-SPI changes, starting with {{Done/See also}}, so I thought it best to revert both. I can see now that the second change fixes it, so reverting my change to restore that.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 17:54, 15 November 2015 (UTC)

Bill Shorten

You recently undid my edit re the marriage and divorce dates of Bill Shorten to his first wife Deborah Beale.

Bill married Deborah Beale on March 25th, 2000. Verified by marriage records held by the Australian Government.

They were officially divorced on October 13th, 2009. Also verified by divorce records held by the Australian Government.

In the interests of truth and accuracy that Wikipedia aspires to, you should let the edit stand. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BlackJack12341234 (talkcontribs) 23:52, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

Dear Sam, I read the suggested material but still don't understand what secondary source you require? Would you like me to get verification from other wedding guests? What else do you suggest? They were married and divorced on the above dates. I'm very new to this. Please help me to ensure accuracy of your site. • @BlackJack12341234: Dear Jack. I do want to believe you, but the matter of fact is that we need a secondary source here, rather than you claiming to be an eye-witness or quoting official records that we cannot confirm. Would you be able to find any kind of published info on the wedding and divorce, say some news paper articles? Cheers. Dear Sam, Please note an article by Brad Norrington published in The Australian on September 25th 2008 under the headline "MP's marital woes pose dilemma for billionaire". The article states "The pair (Deborah Beale and Bill Shorten) met in 1999, while both were studying for MBAs, and quickly married." As stated above, they married on March 25th, 2000. Please also note an article written by Andrew Rule and published in the Sydney Morning Herald on September 26th, 2009 under the headline "The Charm Offensive". In this article it states that "Shorten politely ducks talk of his personal life. So does his estranged wife, Debbie Beale, at least on the record". She is still at this stage his wife as they didn't divorce until October 13th 2009, as stated above. Please let me know if you require any further information to have this article corrected as per my edits. Thank you, Jackie. Not sure what an official sign off is but will try BlackJack12341234 — Preceding unsigned comment added by BlackJack12341234 (talkcontribs) 04:23, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

  • @BlackJack12341234: Dear Jackie. Have a look at the article now, I have corrected the year of marriage to 2000, and I have added references to books supporting 2000, and supporting 2008 as the year of divorce.
I'm sorry that this might have been a rough start on your Wikipedia career, but we're unfortunately so used to people messing with articles, that unless and until they speak up and support the changes they wish to make (especially in articles dealing with living people) they are oftentimes reverted. I'm glad you took the time to address the error in Bill Shorten, and you are always welcome here if you have any questions, although you are guaranteed quicker feedback at the Wikipedia:Teahouse. Happy editing, Sam Sailor Talk! 07:32, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Dear Sam, Thank you. Please note October 2009, not 2008, was the year of divorce as supported by official records and newspaper articles. Please let your article reflect that. Thanks again, Jackie — Preceding unsigned comment added by BlackJack12341234 (talkcontribs) 21:29, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

  • Jackie, the book source I found says quote: "Even when Bill and Debbie divorced in 2008 and Shorten ...". Could you open a discussion on the article talk page to get more eyes on this? Thank you. Sam Sailor Talk! 21:52, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Stray lines at that AFD

So, if you go in thru Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Terrorism, and scroll through the discussions, the one on the Beersheva Bus Station shooting, instead of being followed by a separate AFD, runs together into a discussion of deleting Islamization of the Gaza Strip. I couldn't figure out how to separate the two discussions, so I separate them with the blank lines. Maybe you know how to fix it? Hi Sam!

Thank you for your previous reply, i replied to it by editing it i think and just to make sure you get it, i'm also writing here, sorry if it's too much :)

Here is a review from one of the most popular sites about jazz that was published this week, i'll add it to my draft:Elif Caglar. I guess this should count as a good reference right? that kind of ref. is what i see on other people's bio's, i hope i got it right this time :)) This is the review link: http://www.allaboutjazz.com/misfit-elif-caglar-self-produced-review-by-dan-bilawsky.php

Thank you again, also for the Turkish reply!

@Leafm: Allaboutjazz appears to be reasonably serious, but I do not know if they have any editorial review, so it is maybe not a fully fledged reliable source. You really need to dig up the Turkish sources. It dosen't matter that I do not speak Turkish, we have plenty of people who do. You should def join Wikipedia:WikiProject Turkey. Then you can post on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Turkey and get feedback both from guys/gals who knows Wikipedia and speaks Turkish. Huge benefit. Sam Sailor Talk! 16:02, 25 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi again Sam!

I checked out all the links you've suggested, thank you. Also, Elif is already in Wikipedia in Turkish. Some other jazz musicians from Turkey have an article about them on Wikipedia and all they have for reference is their Discogs.com profile, which Elif also has. (http://www.discogs.com/artist/3711141-Elif-%C3%87a%C4%9Flar?filter_anv=0&type=Releases ) Also the allaboutjazz review is on other articles too. (http://www.allaboutjazz.com/misfit-elif-caglar-self-produced-review-by-dan-bilawsky.php) She has many interview on all the major newspapers of Turkey but i've read interviews don't count. Here's a concert review on Hürriyet, one of Turkey's most popular newspapers (http://www.hurriyet.com.tr/elif-caglarin-buyusu-altindayim-21930812 )and news on her last tour from Daily Sabah, english version of one of Turkey's most important newspapers (http://www.dailysabah.com/music/2015/10/20/talented-jazz-artist-elif-caglar-to-take-the-stage-on-campuses) I can find many other links like this but since only a Discogs profile is enough, i'm thinking i'm doing something about inserting them to the article. Would you please help me with that? If you can't, as Team Elif we'll try again and again :))

Thank you so much for the help so far! Best.

I'm probably going to think a bit about it before posting a comment in the thread at your talk page. No need to rush it. Best, Sam Sailor Talk! 14:57, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
    • Yes, I did realize that right after sending the message. Still, 900 is not any little number. About the record labels, yes sure. I wouldn't mind if you revert the closure yourself in case I am not around (I might be going on a vacation) or you can seek a DR. Regards, Yash! 15:01, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
      • @Yash!: Thanks, but I'm not going to ask you to revert your NAC, let alone revert it myself, as I was part of the discussion. You are likely thinking about DRV not DR, but taking No Consensus closings there is, I believe, a bit pointy. What I think this case should inspire us to debate is that we at least get a mention in WP:MUSICOUTCOMES regarding record labels. Sam Sailor Talk! 15:08, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
        • Yes, DRV and with that, I should finally turn off the computer and go to bed. Perhaps we can start an RfC about it? Yash! 15:44, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

Help needed: Elif Çağlar draft

Hello!

Thank you for reviewing my draft first of all :) I am new wiki user and even though i thought i edited the article after the first rejection, i could not quite understand why it was rejected again. Can you please help me understand what i am doing wrong.

Thank you so much! Leafm (talk) 11:44, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

  • Hi Leafm, nazilsin? We need the draft referenced with independent, reliable sources. Probably most of these are in Turkish, and that is OK, sources do not have to be in English on the English Wikipedia, although they are naturally preferred. Unfortunately I have to say türkcem csok iedil (sorry, I can't even spell it, only say it!), so you will have to dig up good sources. If you need help in adding them to the draft, leave me a message here and I'll help you. Sam Sailor Talk! 11:57, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi again Sam!

I've checked out the links you've send and made some more changes in the references. I found a lot of interviews from all the major newspapers in Turkey but i read that they do not count, so i left them out. Also i discovered some other Turkish musicians with only Discogs.com profile as a reference which Elif has too, along with other references which i've added. I really hope it works this time.

Also thank you for the Turkish Wiki suggestion, Elif Çağlar already has a page there.

Best wishes!

Leafm (talk) 11:51, 2 December 2015 (UTC) Leafm

@Leafm: Merhaba arkadash. Let's get this straight: the interviews from major Turkish newspapers are just fine! Bring them on. If you need help, let me know. Sam Sailor Talk! 11:54, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

Hello Sam!

Great then :) i added a couple of interviews/news, what do you think? Thank you so much.

Leafm (talk) 16:05, 2 December 2015 (UTC) Leafm

@Leafm: I think it's definitely time for you to run over to WP:TURKEY and add yourself to that project, grab a nice cup of çay, and then post on WT:TURKEY asking for some feedback on your draft. Turkish speaking editors will be so much more competent when the the majority of sources are in Turkish. But don't worry, she is notable, it's just a matter of sticking in the right sources the right places. Sam Sailor Talk! 16:21, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

Thank you Sam, just posted there for help and actually drinking çay :) I hope this works. Best!

Leafm (talk) 17:56, 2 December 2015 (UTC)Leafm

Hi again! thank you for the help (and your turkish is pretty good!) will edit the page now and see how that goes :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leafm (talkcontribs) 16:46, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

Hello Sam! Listened to your advice and posted on Wiki Turkey project, no one answered yet to check the references i've added. Is there any other way? Thank you so much and happy holidays!

DJ Revitalise

9th jan 2016 - Hi there Sam, I have found new sources for the page im working on, so i'm waiting for page to be reviewed again. thanks. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft:DJ_Revitalise&redirect=no Musicblogger2015 (talk) 16:09, 9 January 2016 (UTC)Music blogger

Hello sam, I have found a new source for DJ Revitalise page. please have a review of it now. its a reliable 3rd party source. a magazine article interview.

thanks MusicbloggerMusicblogger2015 (talk) 18:29, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

http://www.joomag.com/magazine/mag/0670632001446555658?page=44 Noticed the 1st person singular? Noticed the lack of an author name? It's not a reliable, secondary source. Sam Sailor Talk! 19:22, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi Sam, The authors of the magazine are on the rear covers if u skip through the magazine with the arrow keys.

Ruby Kutowaroo info@audiationmagazine.com www.audiationmagazine.com

This is an interview of the artist by the magazine, i feel it does count as a reliable secondary source. That and the other sources i have provided to the wiki page, should be enough to have this page published.

I'm getting a little discouraged i must say as finding sources to create new wiki pages, is proving to be quite difficult.

thanks.. MusicbloggerMusicblogger2015 (talk) 20:30, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

  • It's so much easier to write articles about subjects that are actually supported by secondary sources as opposed to writing about something or someone and scraping the lower pits of the world wide web for brief mentions in trying to make the subject look notable. If I could find any sources about Draft:DJ Revitalise worth adding, I would have added them. As for reliability of sources please refer to Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources. Sam Sailor Talk! 22:22, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi sam yes i understand, I have referred to the pages on guidelines for sources. I understand i may be starting with a slightly hard article. But thats the point, i wanted to write about music artists, that don't already exist.

Anyways back the this article, you previously mentioned before the other sources i have provided may actually be sufficient, and may pass. And now i have found a new sources this magazine article.

After now providing you the author information which i found in the magazine. Do you think we can get this page to pass now?

thanks Music bloggerMusicblogger2015 (talk) 11:30, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

  • I have never said the sources provided were sufficient. Rather contrary, I have tried to say in several different polite ways that the sourcing is very far from showing any degree of notability. If at this point better sources can not be found, give it up. He may become notable in the future, who knows. But there's nothing to build an article on now. Sam Sailor Talk! 11:51, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi sam,

Ah but you did say that tho that it may pass, but you were urging me to find stronger leads still It's been a couple of months since we have been talking about this. And the other talk about this has been removed from your page. so i cant refer back to it.

If you review the whole wiki article again maybe it will refresh your memory.

You mentioned before about the date of birth and several other websites i had used for sources. And i had found the date of birth.

I understand you want the best possible sources before you can approve a page.

And as for this latest interview, i thought for sure it would be sufficient secondary source. It's a UK based online magazine which is in print also.

Check out their webpage if you haven't yet please.

I have provided 10 sources for this wiki page.

If you still don't think it's sufficient, ill keep on the hunt. Or give up with the page as you suggest.

Music BloggerMusicblogger2015 (talk) 13:34, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi sam, i contacted Ruby Kutowaroo at 'Audiation magaine about this article and this is their response to my questions.

"To clarify the article in the magazine is an Introducing section not an interview. The first paragraph is written by myself as an introductory to DJ Revitalise, and the following are statements in first person of which I arranged with him on what to discuss. Also to note, the magazine is distributed across 36 major stores including Nook, IBooks and Issuu. Full company information can be found through our website www.audiationmagazine.com Full distribution lists: www.audiationmagazine.com/distributors"

Hope this helps to provide this as an adequate source now. Music BloggerMusicblogger2015 (talk) 22:11, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

Submitting new page for review - couple questions

Hi there Sam,

You helped me out with a past page I was working on and I just wanted to reach out with a couple questions. I've submitted the page Draft:Zomba Prison Project for review. Is it correctly submitted in regards to using the {{AFC submission|T}} tag? I'm a little confused on the function of that. Also - I've been trying to figure out the 'Categories' section of pages. Does that need to be added for a page to be approved? Do you just create category names or find pre-existing categories from a list? Any help appreciated! Thanks! Sarahk.odo (talk) 07:00, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

  • @Sarahk.odo: Thank you for your message. I fiddled a little with the draft, added an infobox and such, and moved it to main space, find it at Zomba Prison Project. I added the article to Category:Malawian music, but to answer your question, no, adding categories is not a prerequisite for approval. Categories is to me a dark-grey area where you try to guess what would be logical and sniff around and see in which categories other similar articles have been put. As far as I know, we do not have a really good script for helping with this task. But other editors with better ideas will sooner or later pass by and maybe add a cat or two.
So, how do you think it looks? Anything else I can do? Sam Sailor Talk! 12:34, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

Looks great! Love the info box. Thanks Sam! Yeah I was finding it difficult to find a solid script to advise on categories, but thanks for the info there. I'm excited to try to contribute more pages on African content. Your help is much appreciated.Sarahk.odo (talk) 17:21, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

@Sarahk.odo: I'm always happy to help, let me know if there is something you need. Have a wonderful weekend, Sam Sailor Talk! 17:36, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi there Sam,

I've got another question I could use your help on. I've been trying to add a field to the infobox on the Zomba Prison Project page. Is it possible to add fields to the infobox just by typing that in? I've been trying but the changes are not reflected in the page. I'd like to add 'Executive Producers' in addition to the already existing 'Producer' field. Would love any direction/insights on infobox formatting - much thanks! 02:04:41, 17 December 2015 review of submission by NicholasReedy

Hello Sam,

I spoke with a moderator and he explained that it is not necessarily against the rules to post about a project you have worked on, however it should be noted on the users page.

The following has been added "Nicholas Reedy has worked for Xodus USA as the President, and Xodus Magazine as the Publisher for the life of both organizations."

Hopefully this will help with any conflicting interest questions as outlined in the rules.

Additionally, I have gone through and edited any language that may in any way sound self promoting.

Next, Today and yesterday I went through every line and link with the moderators in chat to make sure each was appropriate. I have removed some (Please let me know if any need to be added back in) and also removed several since it was fairly redundant.

Please let me know if there is anything further that needs to be changed.

Thank you,

Nicholas Reedy

Mary Docherty

The Scotsman February 17, 2000 | SUSAN GALLOWAY Obituary

Mary Docherty, Communist activist and author

Born: 27 April 1908, in Cowdenbeath Died: 2 February, 2000, in Auchtertool, aged 91

MARY Docherty was a lifelong Communist and stalwart of the labour movement in Fife. Her death breaks one of the last direct links we have with the days of "Red Fife", those remarkable inter-war years of revolutionary activity in the coalfields.

I first met Mary in 1987, when she spoke at a Scottish Labour History Society conference in Edinburgh, on Scotland and the Russian Revolution. She was then 79 years old. She delivered her sharp political analysis with what I came to know as characteristic conviction and vigour: a compelling first-hand account of the influence of Bolshevik ideas on industrial and political struggles in Scotland, from her own experience as a young activist.

Mary was 18 when she joined the Communist Party at the outset of the 1926 miners' strike and was involved when the Local Councils of Action, based on the Russian Soviets, were set up in Fife to co- ordinate what became a General Strike. During the strike these revolutionary bodies took control of road transport and distribution in key areas of Fife.

The Communist Party was growing rapidly, with hundreds of miners joining. Mary's father, Willie, was a founding member in 1918 and it was no surprise when she herself chose to join at the earliest possible moment. In her first political role as literature secretary, for Cowdenbeath branch and then for all Fife, the teenage Mary was responsible for producing and selling 20 weekly pit papers, including The Pan Bolt, The Mash and The Flame.

Many senior citizens in Fife will still remember Mary in the late Twenties as the organiser of the Young Pioneers, the Communist children's organisation, in Cowdenbeath. She also ran Pioneer branches in Lochgelly, Glencraig, Bowhill, Lumphinnans and Lochore. As well as teaching the children songs, poems and plays, she organised campaigns against corporal punishment and for free school meals. In 1928 the Young Pioneers succeeded in winning May Day as a holiday in central Fife schools.

In 1929, Mary represented the Pioneers on a delegation to the Soviet Union, where she was also successfully cured of tuberculosis. Her experience of the young workers' state inspired the rest of her life, in a typically unsentimental way. She certainly marked the contrast between Soviet progress and conditions back in Fife.

Mary's father, blacklisted after the 1921 miners' strike, was not employed anywhere again until the Second World War. The family was poor. In the early Thirties she entered domestic service in Edinburgh, like so many young Fife women, helping to support her family with the money she sent home each week. The restrictions of "living in" did not completely prevent Mary's political activities, although she often found herself in trouble as a result.

She returned to Fife, again as a domestic servant, in the mid- Thirties, helping the party to electoral success in local government and Parliament, supporting the Spanish Republican cause, and agitating against the rise of fascism. Mary worked in a munitions factory during the war; and afterwards as a children's nurse, as a full-time worker for the Communist Patty, and latterly in Cowdenbeath Co-op Bakery.

Proud of her own reputation as a "good worker", she could be hard on those who did not meet her own high standards. Perhaps this was one reason why she remained single. Mary spent her life caring for others. She looked after her own mother until her death (at the age of 100), and although she was childless, she cared for many children during her lifetime, both in her employment and as a friend to others. To all practical effect, she was a mother to her younger adopted sister, Frances, whose own family in turn she loved.

Mary never sought positions for herself and she reserved the strongest criticism for those in the movement whom she regarded as self-seeking.

Her essential optimism was reflected in her attitude to ageing. Although she was progressively crippled by painful arthritis, her personality and enthusiasm remained undiminished, She involved herself in a local history group, helped raise funds for the Morning Star newspaper and spoke regularly at the annual International Women's events organised by Fife Council.

She was an assiduous correspondent, never failing to reply to letters. In her eighties she began to write an autobiography, becoming one of the very few working-class women to record her own life. She published A Miner's Lass when she was 84, and her second book, a life of the political activist Bob Selkirk, at 88, raising the funds and then organising their sale from her armchair - when not harassing other comrades to take her to trade-union conferences to sell them herself These books now form a valuable part of Scottish labour history.

Her small home, where she continued to live virtually to the last, was familiar to journalists, researchers and academics as well as many friends and comrades of all ages.

To editor Vanamonde93: Forgive me the late reply. I have included the full text from HighBeam above. Can I be of further help? Sam Sailor Talk! 18:51, 25 December 2015 (UTC)

Many thanks, Sam; it's much appreciated, it's the only major source on Mary Docherty that I could not get a hold of. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 05:56, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

Pamela Guard/Yana draft article

Hello. You kindly offered to change the name of my (first ever) draft article from "Pamela Guard" to "Yana, singer". Please do that. ps: I am new to editing on Wikipedia, still very much struggling with its protocols etc, so hope that this was right way to reply. Granitic (talk) 06:42, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

@Granitic:  Done. And you are doing fine, don't worry. This place is so convoluted well-developed, that you can encounter sysops making good-faith mistakes. Let me know, if you need any assistance. Happy New Year, Sam Sailor Talk! 06:52, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

Hello Sam Sailor:

Did you know ... that back in 1885, Wikipedia editors wrote Good Articles with axes, hammers and chisels?

Thank you for your contributions to this encyclopedia using 21st century technology. I hope you don't get any unnecessary blisters.

Hello :)

Hi Sam Sailor, just thought I'd drop by - I do love the photo you have on your userpage! I've been to the museum next to L'Umbracle, it's such an awe inspiring place, and I've still got a lot of photographs of the area I should probably put on commons at some point. Anyway, Happy New Year! -- samtar whisper 11:45, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Dear Reviewer,

My article was about `Haider Khaleel Raad` has declined 3 times for different reasons! First it was a referencing issue, then external links, and now about notability. I believe along with many academics in this field that the person I am writing about is notable in his field. He is an author of 2 books (one of which was ranked number one best selling on Amazon last year under Aerodynamics category), and more than 50 articles of high impact factor. Could you please show me the difference in terms of notability and referencing between my article and these 2 examples?

Hi, Sam Sailor, just wanted to let you know I really like the Happy New Year card you created and that was sent to me by a kind contributor. Lotje (talk) 16:25, 3 January 2016 (UTC)

Thanks !

I think this is the first time I'm logged in so far this year. But thanks for your nice Happy New Year greeting ! I wish you the same. In Sweden we also have an expression - "God fortsättning" which means "Good continuation" (of the new year), which typically is used in the first week of a new year. (The "Ä/ä" vowel is pronounciated as "a" in "at" or "ai" in "fair") And I wish you a really God fortsättning ! Cheers ! Boeing720 (talk) 21:50, 4 January 2016 (UTC)
