I have nominated The Gekko - Wall Street's to Main Street's Ultimate Power Shirt, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Gekko - Wall Street's to Main Street's Ultimate Power Shirt. A tag has been placed on File:Gekko pointing.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free image with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria.

If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the image can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the image is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the image. If the image has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Gekko deletion nomination[edit]

I wasn't the one who nominated it for deletion. If you have comments, feel free to make them in the AfD so everyone can see them. Cheers! --Mr. Vernon (talk) 05:22, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

{{helpme}} As you can see, I have gotten myself into a whole lot of trouble. My question is I need help deleting The Gekko - Wall Street's to Main Street's Ultimate Power Shirt,}}. I have decided to delete the page and start over in a sandbox on user page until I get the correct references and images. I just need to know the code to use to delete the page. Any help is welcome! BTW, I am not a fake page maker or anything, just a new wiki page maker. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SRELY&P (talkcontribs) 06:51, 30 August 2009

Hi SRELY&P
I moved your question to the bottom of the page per Help:Talk. It is best to start new discussions at the bottom of a talk page. Also, don't forget to sign your contributions with ~~~~.
Calimo (talk) 07:13, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Could you answer my question? SRELYP 07:18, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

Done. Moved and userfied to User:SRELY&P/The Gekko - Wall Street's to Main Street's Ultimate Power Shirt. Redirects tagged as WP:CSD R2 and will soon be deleted. Will close the AfD. Contact me if there's a problem.Tim Song (talk) 07:24, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for deleting the page! I just don't want the redirect to the User:SRELY&P/The Gekko - Wall Street's to Main Street's Ultimate Power Shirt page. Should I just make a new page? Or use a sandbox? The article is in need of edits and I don't want to put it up live - learned my lesson. SRELYP 07:32, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

Just leave the redirect there for now; it will be deleted once an admin sees it. Tim Song (talk) 07:36, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I was going to take it off but I realized you might need it so I left it how it was. No one will make any comments/make a speedy deletion about the redirect User:SRELY&P/The Gekko - Wall Street's to Main Street's Ultimate Power Shirt page? I have people who would like to see the page and I would like to show them something. Plus, I don't have references yet.

Thank you so much for the help. I was stressing out over how I was going to get myself out of all that trouble! If I need wiki help may I come to you? I am still new to wiki and I need all the help I can get! :-) SRELYP 07:42, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

No, I'm pretty sure not. We have pretty relaxed standards on pages in userspace, with a couple exceptions, but none of them seems to apply here.
You can certainly contact me if you need help. Just leave a message on the bottom of my talk page. Welcome to Wikipedia, and happy editing! Tim Song (talk) 07:52, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That is a relief! I left a message on the bottom of you page about an image I uploaded, but I'll put it here also. I uploaded File:21 Club Gekko and Fox.jpg which is a modified image from the original I had gotten and didn't know that it was considered vandalism on Wikipedia. I no longer am using the photo and wish to have it deleted. If you know the code to delete the image that would be great. So is modified images a no-no in Wikipedia? SRELYP 07:57, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

One small point: this is an encyclopedia. What was wrong with a simple title of Gekko shirt instead of your ridiculous one? In any case, as I have already said twice, a few words in Gordon Gekko is a necessary and sufficient treatment of this subject. As you can see, I have tagged File:21 Club Gekko and Fox.jpg for speedy. But they have some funny ideas over on the Commons, so it might help if you went there and added your own request for speedy deletion. Why on earth did you ever think that a doctored image would be acceptable anywhere? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 08:02, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize and will keep that in mind when I upload images. It was my mistake to assume it would be acceptable and will no longer be uploading doctored images. As I stated before, I am not using the image in current articles and that is why I want it deleted. I will look into putting a few words in Gordon Gekko. — SRELYP 08:15, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

Tim Song thinks my remark on my user talk page was not called for. So I will spell things out more clearly: I suggest that you do not attempt to write a new, long article on the Gekko shirt - after all your trouble you may well find it sent again to AfD. Do what I suggested: create a redirect at Gekko shirt (and Gecko shirt for good measure!) and add a couple of sentences to Gordon Gekko. Then wait. If other people expand on the topic then, quite naturally it may move out to its own article. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 08:39, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I understand what you are saying - small paragraph/sentences in gecko, no large article. Wait and see if an opportunity comes to make an large article based on popularity on subject.SRELYP (talk) 08:55, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Signatures[edit]

Okay, that image's been deleted already. Another problem is with your signature. Per WP:SIGN, "Signatures must include at least one internal link to your user page, user talk page, or contributions page." It might be best if you change your signature to be consistent with the policy. Tim Song (talk) 08:29, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How do I do that? I been using the four tildes. SRELYP 08:33, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

Did you customize your signature in your preferences? The easiest way is just to leave that signature field blank, or at least uncheck that "sign exactly as shown" box. Also, regarding leaving messages at the bottom - it's not my preference but a well-established Wikipedia convention. On all talk and discussion pages, newest topic goes to the bottom per WP:TPG. Tim Song (talk) 08:40, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thank you that is good to know so I won't make that mistake again. Also, thanks about the signature heads up. I think I finally got it correct - at least I am getting something right in wiki SRELYP (talk) 08:45, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article Baade II has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Obscure != notable. I'm having problems finding significant coverage in 3rd party sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. RadioFan (talk) 21:42, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{helpme}}

I created the Baade II company page because Wikipedia does not have one. They are a real small company based in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Please let me know what I have to do so I can keep the page on. I do not want to have the page deleted. As for the introduction and article reading like an advertisement - how can I rewrite it so it will stay? Please edit the copy I have already if needed and take the proposed deletion off. I don't want to lose the page! Or please let me know what I need to edit out so it will stay.

Thank you,

SRELYP (talk) 21:49, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

I think the issue is notability. I can't find any more sources for the company, or even news articles. If you still wanted to save it, probably keep the article focused on the company and not different types of cufflinks. Also, you may want to move it to the Article Incubator so others may be able to help as well.  fetchcomms 22:17, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for that information. I will do that now.

User talk:SRELYP/Baade II[edit]

I've userfied this article so that you may continue working on it without worrying about it being deleted. Once you have added sufficient citations to significant coverage in reliable sources. I had trouble finding enough to help the article meet guidelines for inclusion.--RadioFan (talk) 22:04, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What kind of citations would I need to keep it up? Baade II unfortunately does not have a website. Also, could you give me advice on how to fix the introduction and make it not read as an advertisement? Or if you can't, could you send me to someone who could?

Thank you for everything RadioFan!

SRELYP (talk) 22:09, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello SRELY&P, unfortunately, unless an article can be reliably sourced and meets the notability guideline for the given subject (in this case companies and organizations) said article will not be aloud entry into Wikipedia's article space. Jeffrey Mall (talkcontribs) - 22:18, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
To that advice I would add that, as far as style goes, the whole article is written in what I can only describe as promotional ad-speak, stuffed with peacock terms: "meticulously handcrafted", "extravagantly costly", "visually striking luster", "resplendently tailored"... An encyclopedia is about documented facts, not persuasive adjectives. For every one of those, and all the dozens more, you may be challenged: where is the reliable independent source that says these things are meticulous, extravagant, resplendent...? Read our policy on Neutral Point of View, and the guideline on Peacock terms, and look at articles like Tiffany & Co., Dior, Chanel to see how luxury goods manufacturers can be described without extravagant language, and with sources to back up what they say.
In my opinion (though I am not Authority, Wikipedia doesn't work that way), a very much shorter article which describes in dry and neutral terms who the company are and what they do would have a better chance of acceptance, provided you can supply the independent reliable sources to establish notability.
Regards, JohnCD (talk) 22:29, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for all that information. I was thinking of just doing that - making a short article to the point. I'll also get rid of the words and keep it short and simple.

SRELYP (talk) 22:31, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Same comment as the Gekko shirt below: you cannot keep a deleted article on your user page forever. Racconish (talk) 10:36, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Wikipedia Article Incubator/Baade II has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable, despite the grand advertisement. This search gives only 241 hits, many of them irrelevant and none that meet WP policy on notability. This article is just fancy spam. Fails WP:N and WP:SPAM

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. {{help me}}

Could anyone answer why my page on incubator is proposed deletion/ was proposed deletion? (I edited out some of the info to make it simple) I thought it was a place where I can get feedback and help on the article, not get deleted. I was only following what someone else suggested. If it is the case that it is not a place where I can get feedback and it is subjected to deletion - please delete the article off the incubator and I will stick to my userpage.

Hello. I noticed you recently created a page in the article space by mistake. This may have been a typographical error, but in case it was not, let me summarise what you did incorrectly. In Wikipedia, every page is in a namespace. The namespace is by default "Article", otherwise known as "Main". You created your page in the articlespace, because you neglected or misspelled the namespace prefix "User:" before the name of your page. Even as minute a detail as this can cause problems. In the future, please be careful of this. Don't worry about the page - I have moved it into your userspace, and marked the resultant redirect for deletion. If you have questions, please feel free to ask them on my talkpage, or go to the help desk. Thank you.
P.S.: Your page is not in Incubator; it is in the article namespace. Incubator is only for inactive Wikis. You might do better moving it into your own userspace, which I have boldly done for you. (You can find it here) Intelligentsium 23:30, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

SRELYP (talk) 23:27, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh okay, that was my fault then. Thank you for correcting my mistake changing the page into a user page.

SRELYP (talk) 23:33, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict):Well, the editor thought that you were trying to advertise there. You may want to consider removing all the spammy-sounding parts and then move it to the incubator. It still reads like an ad, unfortunately. However, you should speak to the editor who put the PROD tag on the page and explain what is going on. That isn't really supposed to happen there, and I'm very sorry for the inconvenience.-- fetchcomms 23:36, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think that he misunderstood Incubator for Article incubator, two different things.-- fetchcomms 23:37, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

User Page as holding place for deleted article[edit]

In my opinion, per WP:UP#NOT you should not use your user page as a repository for the deleted article on the Gekko shirt. If you feel your changes are substantial enough to now meet WP's criteria for inclusion, why don't you make it an article? Racconish (talk) 18:45, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I will be making it an article soon, I am still making edits to the text. It will be an article today, and hopefully not get deleted. SRELYP (talk) 19:13, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Now that you retry the article, you should delete the user page per WP:UP#COPIES

Racconish (talk) 10:53, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Per WP:UP#COPIES user pages are not intended to indefinitely archive previously deleted content. Pages kept in userspace should not functionally substitute for articles. Please consider making it an article in the mainspace- or deleting it.

Racconish (talk) 13:07, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

SRELYP (talk) 19:36, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Per WP:UP#COPIES "While userpages and subpages can be used as a development ground for generating new content, this space is not intended to indefinitely archive your preferred version of disputed or previously deleted content or indefinitely archive permanent content that is meant to be part of the encyclopedia. Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals here, you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-coiun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} below this message box.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
