Mendip Hills[edit]

Hi, I've been doing some editing of Mendip Hills & have put it up for peer review (comments welcome) prior to going for FA status. Can I pick your expert knowledge... in doing it I've come accross the British National Vegetation Classification which I know nothing about. The Mendips article says "There are three nationally important semi-natural habitats which are characteristic of the area: Ash-Maple woodland (often with abundant small-leafed lime (Tilia), Calcareous grassland and Mesotrophic grassland. Much of the Mendip Hills is open calcareous grassland which supports a large variety of wild flowering plants and insects. Grazing by rabbits (Lagomorpha), sheep (Ovis aries) and cattle maintains the grassland habitat. Some of the area is deciduous ancient woodland."

Some bits link to the BNVC system & some don't. Would you be kind enough to take a look (particularly at the ecology section) & check I'm getting this right & whether I should be using more specific bits of the classification system. Thanks.— Rod ^talk 21:07, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stonechat[edit]

Hello. I was surfing through the North American bird list doing some clean up and came upon the link to the Stonechat Saxicola torquatus which has bee recorded in Alaska. When I read through the article, I noticed the bird had been broken into other species. The DNA evidence looks compelling, but is it premature to split the species? None of the major ornithologist organizations have yet to officially recognize any of the subspecies as species yet. I was going to attempt some edits to make it more accurate, but since it was primarily a Eurasian bird, I thought I'd defer to someone across the pond. Sorry, you seem to be misunderstanding how things work around here. When someone is questioning the addition of a large amount of material, you stop adding it as a matter of course until the issue is resolved. I can't find any record of the consensus you speak of. In fact, the only things I can find support not having a separate article on every single entry in the classification (including amongst others WP:NOT a directory). World Heritage template[edit]

Hi! I created a template for World Heritage Sites: {{Infobox World Heritage Site}}. Since many of the protected areas are also recognized as World Heritage Sites, I thought that it will be appropriate to forward this template here, and hopefully, for the community to help improve the template. Someone mentioned that the footnotes are unclear (i.e. why the need to emphasize "official" there). It's because the official name (or the name as inscribed on the List) is different from what we usually know. And the Region also has footnote to tackle specifically the classification of those regions which may fall ambiguously between two continents (e.g. those in Russia, Turkey, Cyprus, etc.). In addition, I think that the info provided in the template is much like a jargon for most readers since it box is more of use for internal references in the World Heritage program. I hope that the community will help improve the template and make it more relevant to the readers of wikipedia in general. Thanks. Joey80 13:46, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
