Re oztion.

I doubt that you actually use Oztion.

Hence my posting is factually correct and neutral.

Critiques

There appears to be a very real concern amongst Oztion users that the "live help" can only be reached after tracking through endless drill down menus, only to be staffed by "computer people" or robot auto-responders which inaccurately and improperly deal with issues and complaints.

There are also large amounts of complaints about the excessive "e-paperwork" that all parties to a sale are required to receive and respond too, leading many users to state that "Oztion is now as bad as Ebay". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.1.214.106 (talk) 01:34, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

I actually do use Oztion as a secondary to eBay, but that's beside the point. On Wikipedia, verifiability, not truth is what determines the content of articles. If it can be referenced by a reputable third-party source, and provided it is of neutral tone, it can be included. If it's not supported, it's removed; "user experiences" with a service do not count as reputable third-party sources, so they are removed. SMC (talk) 02:18, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

My list

Thank you for complementing my list. As for the answer to that timeless question: do I like Limp Bizkit?

Honestly, I don't. I don't think they're a terrible band, and they have a couple of songs that I would call guilty pleasures, but I can't say I like them much. I'd probably like them better if they got rid of Fred Durst somehow. --LordNecronus (talk) 14:48, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi

Just wanted to let you know that I've taken the situation at Susan Hutchison to ANI. :) It's at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Disruptive_editing.2C_Chimes_in_SF. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 00:58, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. Actually, after the last revert I was considering asking you whether we should just skip to ANI - glad you went ahead and did it :) SMC (talk) 05:15, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Make Her Say

Can I ask why? Considering she is featured on the "Make Her Say" single, why is it not "allowed" by you to be put in her featured singles section? 01lander (talk) 09:23, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

I actually mistook your edit for vandalism. Looking at it again, however, I don't see the point in adding Poke Her Face (another name for Make Her Say) to the template when Poke Her Face redirects to Make Her Say. Anyway, per your explanation, I've removed the vandalism template from your page. SMC (talk) 09:27, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
What was the reason behind reverting my revision in {{Lady Gaga}}? Did you care to check that "Make Her Say" doesnot have Gaga as a featured artist, rather a sample of song? The user didnot care to check it but you should have before counter-reverting. And if you want other proofs see this and this. The articles clearly states that the song was sampled. Do I make myself clear? --Legolas (talk2me) 09:49, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
Hmm. My reasoning was that the page had a Lady Gaga template on it, but you are correct in saying that I didn't check the "featured artist" status, which, FYI, is never explicitly stated on that article. My bad on that one. I reverted because it appeared, from a Wikipedia article standpoint, that the user was actually correct with their edit; maybe they still are, if you check their talk page. That being said, "Do I make myself clear?" is possibly one of the least civil conclusions to a talk page comment that I've read from a fellow rollbacker. There's no need for that kind of attitude. SMC (talk) 10:31, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

bf2

I noticed you play bf2. Have you ever played project reality? Shadowjams (talk) 13:06, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

You betcha! PR is great - it makes BF2 worth playing all over again. I play PR when I want a remotely serious game, and vanilla BF2 when I just want to have a fun, "informal" round or two. Admittedly there's a few people on there who take it far too seriously and will happily curse you out at the slightest error you make, but most people are pretty reasonable. Which servers do you play on? I tend to stick to GSA-BigD servers, since they're the most reliable PR host in Australia. SMC (talk) 13:12, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Well I'm in the US so I play whatever servers ping nicely, but I've played on a few australian servers, given my location. It's all I've played for the last few months. Shadowjams (talk) 13:16, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Cool stuff. I like how voice comms become a vital part of a squad's combat - no VOIP, no chance is the motto. I go by SchoolSarge on BF2 by the way, so if you happen to see me on an Aussie server let me know in-game; while I make a lousy squad leader, I'm sure squadding up would be fun. :) SMC (talk) 13:25, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

4ZZZ page

Hi,

i noticed you made a change to the 4ZZZ page, i'm assuming its a cosmetic change to comply with wikipedia standards?

cheers

Ibbers (talk) 03:36, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

I removed a MySpace link to comply with Wikipedia's external linking policy. So maybe you could call it cosmetic in its effect, but it's actually a rather important "anti-spam" guideline :) SMC (talk) 05:16, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism on Motown Articles

Hi SMC,

I’ve noticed some of the vandalism going on with some of the Motown articles. Apparently some is doing it declearing infringement. Also I believe it is the same person who used IP address 172.162.26.27 on November 18, 2009, and now using a shared address for his/her/their attacks on November 25.--Halls4521 (talk) 23:02, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I can't seem to find which pages you're talking about in my contribs - if you could please link me to them and I'll be happy to add them to my watchlist. Also, how do you mean, "declearing infringement" - as in the user thinks there's infringing content on the page and they're removing it? SMC (talk) 05:20, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
Check the edit history of the articles End of the Road, Motown, ABC (album) and The Spinners (American band) on the date November 18. It was the same type of vandalism.--Halls4521 (talk) 22:07, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
Ah yes, I remember that guy, particularly his edit summary - "INFRINGEMENT". Unfortunately for him there's no infringing material on those articles (that I can see). I've added all those pages to my watchlist. That's the most that can be done until they vandalise again. SMC (talk) 05:22, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Hello, I would just like to inform you that there has been some new information revealed here and I would appreciate it if you check it over so that your opinion stays relevant. Thank you. Comrade Hamish Wilson (talk) 22:33, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. SMC (talk) 02:52, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Hello again, faced with the problem of adding the sources to the article, I am wondering if you would have any suggestions of how I am to go about this, especially with the books. Comrade Hamish Wilson (talk) 19:51, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. If you're unsure how to physically reference the article with books, the citation templates are what you're looking for. There's a variety of them available, including one for books and magazines. Let me know if I've misunderstood what you're asking :P SMC (talk) 05:32, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Cairns, Queensland - Media section

RE: Your recent delete of the URL cairns.com.au

The majority of The Cairns Post's content is available at cairns.com.au. Allowing Wikipedia users to discover news and currents affairs from the Cairns regionvia this source affords them a greater insight into the people, culture, history and issues affecting life in Far North Queensland.

According to the logic "Wikipedia is not a collection of links", the link to Cairns Bulletin should also be removed. Why is it still there?

Would you care to explain how the addition of the URL cairns.com.au fails to comply with Wikipedia's External Links guidelines, while the addition of the URL cairnsbulletin.com.au is somehow NOT in breach of this regulation? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Simpsonandrew (talkcontribs) 06:34, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing that link out - I've removed it as well. Generally, external links shouldn't be included in the body of text; instead, if they are directly relevant to the topic at hand and substantially add to the content of the article, they may be placed in the external links section of a page. Note that newspapers frequently circulated in a city or town don't usually qualify for a mention in an article's external links section unless the article is about them. SMC (talk) 07:54, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Hey, SMC. Thanks for your work on this article. I had been contacted by someone claiming to be the owner asking for help with the article. After checking I confirmed a slow edit war and did a bit of cleanup. Instead of following my advice the editor renewed their edit war and I backed away from the article. It's still on my watchlist but it's such a mess that I didn't know how to proceed. I admire your courage and perseverance. I'll keep watching it and will help out if the opportunity should present itself. See ya 'round Tiderolls 19:26, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the background and encouragement, Tide. I've noticed most of the edits by User:Lucy Frampton have amounted to pure vandalism, and I've been able to rollback 'em without COI/3RR concerns. I generally try to steer clear of content disputes but thankfully I don't think this article has sunk that low just yet. I too have noticed that Petertripp hasn't taken your advice, and continues to update the article with edit summaries which basically state "hey, I own this station, this is how it should read". To his credit he's managed to remain *fairly* neutral, but the majority of the article still lacks references. If I have some time I'll see what I can do about referencing it, but I'm glad there's another pair of eyes on this article - it could wind up being a nasty COI boiling pot if certain users return to the party :P SMC (talk) 07:02, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

I think I'll hold off approaching the editor I mentioned in our previous conversation. Your last edit to this article gives me some hope that a stable version can be achieved, because it may placate those that wanted the history added. Thanks for your help here and keep up the good work. See ya 'round Tiderolls 12:52, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Edit War on Supremes Article

There seems to be an edit war going on on The Supremes article (which may include bad info and out right vandalism). Please check it out (and possibly alert the other Adminitrators). Thank You. --Halls4521 (talk) 02:10, 21 January 2010 (UTC)

Agree the article looked dreadful and read just like a verbose brochure - the ludicrous claim that "in the late 1970s and 80s there was hardly an album in stores that had not in part been recorded at Cherokee" was the cream of course! - but I made a determined effort to prune down the page and make it more readable and fact-oriented. Have a look! The story of how they moved to Fairfax is a bit anecdotal, but very funny, interesting and kind of worthy of keeping in.Strausszek (talk) 02:51, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

That's *much* better than what it was. Well done! There's still a few things to be fixed, moved about and possibly trimmed - for instance, much of the Trivia section would be better featured under Prominent clients, and a "Latest news" section probably isn't a good idea (however, the link that is there may be useful for a reference). I'll take a look at it for minor things like those and Manual of Style stuff if I have some time. Anyway, great work! SMC (talk) 06:11, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
