Pirates of the Caribbean 3[edit]

Edit summaries[edit]

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. WP Policies you may want to familiarize yourself with[edit]

Hi Ronin,

Firstly, thank you for deciding to contribute to Wikipedia pages regarding The Terminator movies!

I've noticed that a lot of your edits have been reverted due to their being inconsistent with Wikipedia policies. I would like to draw your attention to those policies, so that you may better understand them, and so you can be more confident that your contributions are in accord with Wikipedia's goals.

For the most part, the edits I have seen you make on the Terminator articles go against WP:NPOV. I hope I can help point you towards the needs underlined in this policy. I understand that as a new editor, seeing your edits frequently reverted without explanation can be frustrating -- It's my goal here to help you understand A) you needn't take it personally , and B) exactly why your edits have been reverted, and how you can improve them so that they will be accepted.

WP:NPOV is the policy that describes how Wikipedia articles must be written in a neutral point of view. Click on WP:NPOV to read the policy, and how you might better tailor your edits to meet it, for the benefit of our common goals on Wikipedia.

A similar policy is the one against "original research", WP:NOR. Original research in this context usually applies to one's own interpretations of things. For example, in the Terminator movies, you may have your own interpretation of Sarah Connor's motives. However, your opinion -- while perfectly suited to other venues, such as your own web page, discussion/forum pages, or even a personal essay -- are not "encyclopedic", which is why opinion cannot be included in Wikipedia.

My suggestion is that you familiarize yourself with these policies; these are here to help define for you what Wikipedia is, what it isn't, and the policies that contributions need to adhere by.

For general editing help, you can always go to WP:HELP. the main help page. At the top of this page (your talk page), you'll see that a "welcome" user placed a template full of good links to help you familiarize yourself with how to (and how not to) edit Wikipedia.

Other Wikipedia editors who are familiar with these policies will undoubtedly be delighted to help you tailor your edits to meet them -- I encourage you to use the "talk" (aka Discussion) pages attached to each article to ask questions about your edits if you are in any question over whether they are in accord with Wikipedia policy, and how they may be best done to this effect.

Unfortunately your edits to Kane (Highlander) have been reverted because they didn't follow WP:NPOV and WP:CITE. It is important that Wikipedia articles be written in a non-point of view, balanced style and cite reliable sources, so that other editors can verify the facts. ManfrenjenStJohn gave you a lot of good advice above, so I'm not going to repeat them, but I can only urge you to follow them so that your edits don't get reverted. Thanks for uploading Image:Ls ps2.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. February 2012[edit]

Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of published material to articles as you apparently did to Ip Man 2. Please cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. You might wish to read up on the MOS on how to write plot summaries before introducing dubious information into the plot outline again. Do take a look at how the synopsis of Rocky 4 was written, of which the plot shares similarities. The writeup mentions how the antagonist boxer was remorseless after beating Apollo creed to death, without labeling it a murder, nor did it embellish the "evilness" of the character. Your recent editing history at Ip Man 2 shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
