Thought you might appreciate this...

While I work in software dev, my company is in the engineering field. They're currently working on a training program for the draftsmen. One of the engineers has been collecting examples of different drawings off the web for a reference library, and considering my background in drafting, he asked my opinion of File:2up 2Down perp stairwell 19th century standards.png, which he'd found on Wikipedia, as a suitable example of a straightforward architectural drawing.

Naturally, I informed them that I think it's a brilliant example, and shows multiple hallmarks of incredible skill and some true genius on the part of the draftsman. I opined that it was possibly the greatest example of a floorplan and elevation I'd ever seen. I added the view that whoever had commissioned it had to be possessed of a rare brilliance, as well. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 15:39, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Oh yes, I remember I was banging my head against a desk trying to get some decent images in Terraced houses in the United Kingdom back whenever is was, and you rode to the rescue. That was incredibly helpful, and it is a good image that aids the article well. I've never talked about my day job anywhere on the internet, ever, but I can tell you more about what I do off-wiki if you want as it's in a related field. I'd be quite interested to hear about that. My email's enabled, so whenever you feel like it.
I don't blame you one bit. I'd be a bit more close-mouthed about my career, except I only recently (~7 years ago) changed careers, and I'm rather proud of myself still. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 16:02, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

KVJ

Thanks for the heads-up; thankfully nobody from WPB has polluted my social media yet and a few blocks there will take care of pushback, so whatever dander they've wanted to raise won't affect me (why do AfD deletion tantrums always hit why I'm out of town 😂? A few years ago I had the same thing happen with some kid's show on Amazon mad about their AfD too.) Nate (chatter) 18:43, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Mrschimpf, I don't know much about the radio station, whether they're an actual radio station with a broadcast license, or just a bunch of fly-by-night jocks on the internet. In the former case, when I briefly did a local radio show, I got read a bunch of ground rules, top of the list of which was no swearing, and no insulting anybody, and that includes government ministers. If I'd said the sort of things they did, basically having a pop at some random editor without researching the full facts, and inviting people to harass them, I'd have been fired. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 18:51, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
They are a licensed station, but in America these days unless you swear on air, kill someone on-air, or someone spams their complaint form, it's pretty much anything goes as far as on-air stuff since 1996, so really no cause for a libel suit here in the United States (and a hassle due to state lines). As long as they don't really harass me IRL, it'll be fine. Nate (chatter) 00:04, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

La La Anthony

User:Ritchie333, Your final decision on date of birth for La La Anthony as an admin is accepted. We agree not to keep pressing to add the correct date of birth. However, it seems the enemy has returned again today with the wrong date of birth which you removed completely. This time around, they came with an IP account User contributions for 2603:6011:C206:7A00:55F3:DBF5:313F:4ECC. Please look into this and revert back to the earlier stand. I am also requesting for page protecting since these enemies keep coming back to add the wrong date of birth which is adversely affect the career of my Boss lady, La La Anthony. Thanks La La Anthony PA (talk) 18:34, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)La La Anthony PA, let me offer you two pieces of advice.
1. Referring to other editors as "enemies" is not a good idea. We try to stay civil here, and we even have an essay on why one shouldn't view editing here as a fight. It's understandable that you feel this way, however, the most likely explanation is that the people using the wrong DOB are simply mistaken.
2. If you want the correct DOB added, you could have your boss posts her DOB on social media or on her website. If she also included some proof there (such as the apparent driver's license you uploaded here, which was deleted for privacy reasons), then we'd generally consider that reliable. Especially if, as was pointed out elsewhere, there are other sources supporting that date. All you'd have to do after she posted that is bring that to the attention of someone here (I'm happy to be that editor, if you like), and we could add it to the article and make a note at the talk page to explain the situation. That's usually enough to fix issues like this. I've handled similar problems from people who have complaints about their articles here, so feel free to ask if you have any questions. ᛗᛁᛟᛚᚾᛁᚱPants Tell me all about it. 19:28, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

Caroline Flack GAN

Hello. Apologies for this very random message, but I just wanted to thank you for your work on the Caroline Flack article. I am an American so my experience with her is rather limited, but I do remember seeing her when I randomly watched the twelfth series of The X Factor and I found her to be likable and charismatic there. Best of luck with the GAN! Aoba47 (talk) 21:13, 16 June 2021 (UTC)

Aoba47, I'd never heard of Caroline Flack at all as I don't watch the sort of shows she presented (there's a bit of a standing joke in real life that my favourite TV show is The News) until I watched last year's Strictly final (hey, it had Bill Bailey in it!) where there was a montage of her. About halfway through watching some great dancing, I felt something was wrong, and by the end of the clip I realised she must have died. Then, a few days ago, the front page of BBC News mentioned the "Climb for Caroline" organised by Olly Murs, so I thought I would read up on who Caroline Flack was and what she did. It was utterly heartbreaking to read about her taking her own life and how it was triggered, and serves as a stark reminder that underneath the gloss of reality shows and social media tie ins are real people with real feelings. And as someone who's had their own mental health difficulties in adulthood, I do have a strong empathy for those who struggle as well, and feel particularly upset over those who can't make it through. She deserves the best WP article I can give her. And the sourced quotation "In a world where you can be anything, be kind" is particularly resonating. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 21:25, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
That quote is very powerful. I have had my own mental health challenges in the past so I also empathize with individuals going through similar experiences. It really can affect anyone and it is important to remember that we are all human. I am also not a fan of reality television. I probably watched that particular series as it was particularly low point in my mental health so I found it helpful to shut off my brain and watch something silly. I am glad discussions on mental health are not as stigmatized as they were in the past (though more work can obviously be done). You have done a wonderful job with the article and I would imagine that a lot of readers will (and have already) appreciated your work on it. Aoba47 (talk) 22:08, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
Ritchie, I just read the page because of what I read here, and I, too, want to thank you for your work on it. --Tryptofish (talk) 22:59, 16 June 2021 (UTC)
Thanks, both. Although stuff like Love Island isn't my cup of tea (and that's putting it politely), to get a perfect score on the Strictly Come Dancing final does take genuine skill and talent. I think even people who aren't familiar with that show will know that Craig Revel Horwood isn't exactly a pushover when it comes to giving praise to people's dancing skills. Perhaps as Flack got to middle age, she would have found a role in radio, possibly talk radio that would have given her different audience. We'll now never know. :-(
Part of the problem with improving articles like this is that people who specialise in the low-brow popular culture entertainment field tend to be difficult to source, because you have to mentally filter out everything that's been deprecated at WP:RSN including IMDB, The Sun, the Daily Mail, the Daily Express and particularly the Daily Mirror in this instance. Indeed, just doing a Google News search for Caroline Flack brings up a bucket load of BLP-violating tabloid stuff. However, life has been made a bit easier by the ground work SchroCat and Cassianto did when the article was improved for WP:ITN. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:41, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
Late to this, thanks to all involved in her story I came by with the quote mentioned above. I miss the two users who did the ground work, even if at least one them may not like it. I think that, with kindness, and leaving the others' articles alone, we could come along. I fail to understand why the straw that broke their camels' back was a bit of uncollapsing, - or what did I miss? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:06, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

How about putting in a good word for the other editor who got banned temporarily? Oh, and thanks!  :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.12.60.144 (talkcontribs) 16:22, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

As I understand it, a citation to the New York Times about a marriage does not violate the biography of living persons guidelines, though I would ideally like two sources stating it for the claim to be of encyclopedic importance. In future, I would recommend starting a thread on the talk page continuing to revert. Explain why it's important to mention Cevallos' marriage, mention the source, or suggest a compromise, such as "Cevallos is married" (with the NYT reference). A user who could use some help

Hey Ritchie. I'm currently dealing with this user right now, and they're having problems with close paraphrasing on this article that they're working on. I removed some text they added as a close paraphrase of https://www.forgottenweapons.com/brazilian-lapa-fa-modelo-03 after their edit was flagged at copypatrol, and dropped a note on their talk page explaining why I removed the content. They didn't respond there, but it appears they read it since they then made this edit to the article, where it appears they are trying to more thoroughly paraphrase the content. The problem is is that the content they added is still a close paraphrase. I think the content should be reworded, but I do not know much about guns and I am unsure about what is and isn't copyrightable in the edit. I also don't want to have to block a user who appears to otherwise be mostly copyright free and has done good work expanding stubs from what I've seen. However, it seems that may end up happening since they have not directly responded to notices on their talk. So I'm posting this here in the hopes that more eyes can be put on the situation, and maybe you or one of the stalkers know someone who can help out when it comes to these kind of articles. Thanks, Moneytrees🏝️Talk/CCI guide 03:19, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

Moneytrees, Okay, it looks like we've got a user who can't hear you. I'm equally unsure as to the subject material (WT:MILHIST is probably a better venue for that) in order to get rid of the remaining copyvios, but I think we're going to need a block to get their attention. Mass tagging

I'm sure nobody is "everyone's cup of tea", but I get your point. This mass set of edits appears to fall foul of WP:MEATBOT, unless I missed the discussion which concluded with a clear consensus to "inline tag" bare URLs. Tools like reFill don't work well with that approach and so each edit by the user in question has to be undone and then fixed. And it would appear that the user's AWB script is doing a bit more than just tagging bare URLs, so now we have to pick our way back to the previous version and preserve anything useful before running the scripts. I'm not sure this should be allowed to continue at 20 pages per minute without further community discussion, but as you've intimated, no-one likes me, and as the user has exclaimed "DO NOT REPLY". So there we have it. I guess all Wikipedians are equal except for those who are not. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 17:18, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

It appears that the disruptive user has agreed to stop their tagging tirade. Someone told me they were considering running for admin. Amazing. Anyway, have a good Wednesday evening. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 19:38, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
Awww. What's wrong with a little bit of tagging, now and again! Martinevans123 (talk) 19:48, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
I have no problem with tagging. But 20 articles per minute is mad. Especially when the tagger has been told explicitly that their edits are not helping anyone do anything. But hey, YMMV. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 19:51, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

Martin, it's a pity that TRM is unwilling to acknowledge that many other editors do find the tags useful. Their approach seems to be the because they take a particular view, that's the end of the story.

TRM's choice to label the tagging a "mad" (both here and on another page) and as a "tirade" is just another example of the aggressive incivility that led me to kick him off my talk. It's also a very silly comment, because speed of tagging neither makes a bad tag into a good one, nor a good tag into a bad one. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:12, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

It's funny, I haven't seen a single editor say this mass speed tagging as useful. But hey. Tomorrow is another day. I'm just glad we are where we are.  ;) The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 20:19, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
If you bothered to engage in dialogue rather than just spouting insults and ABF, I could have pointed you to it. Your hostility and aggression blinds you. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:38, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
Quite the opposite. I am here for editors and readers. Making 1000 tagged edits in an hour helps no-one. It's impressive, I used AWB a decade ago and then realised that it was fun for a bit but actually harmful as it really overlooked the nuances of Wikipedia. You have at it though. I prefer to spend my time making quality edits to improve articles and our readers' experience. But we're all different, of course. I'm just pleased you've stopped as you never had a consensus to do what you were doing. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 20:44, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
You seem to think that readers are helped by impeding the marking of impediments to verification. That's a very odd idea. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:47, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
You seem to think that mass edits on a bot scale help our editors and readers. That's a very odd idea, and contrary to community consensus. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 20:56, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
Until AWB is disabled and bots are banned, your comment is simply false. The consensus for the 15 years I have edited here has been that it depends on the edits. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 21:02, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
WP:MEATBOT. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 21:04, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
MEARBOT is not a ban on mass-editing. It's more nuanced that that. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 22:06, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
It's MEATBOT and yes, your contentious edits certainly fall foul of that. Once again, I'm glad you've stopped, and I hope you seek community consensus to continue doing whatever it is you think you're trying to achieve. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 22:13, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
Once again, TRM leaves a characteristic sneer.
By this stage, TRM should be in absolutely no doubt that was that was trying to achieve was to assist editors (including me) to identify articles subject to linkrot, so that they can be fixed. TRM's comment whatever it is you think you're trying to achieve is either yet more trolling, or an indication that TRM has difficulty in comprehending the simple issue of locating problems. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 22:32, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
By this stage I'm wondering if it's possible to get a filter to ignore edits by this user who has summarily disrupted Wikipedia. Let's see. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 22:39, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
No filter needed, TRM. Just stop your trolling. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 22:50, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
There is no trolling. Your edits are disruptive and have no consensus. I'm glad you've stopped them. The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 22:55, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
Au contraire, the barrages of insult combined with persistent denial of the purposes of the edits is a classic troll technique. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 23:45, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

(ec) I got up late today, and then had to do the testing to prepare for the concert later today, - hasn't happened yet that I worded a DYK and months later I'm going to hear that very ensemble play that very music, probably in a smaller formation though - so right now I'm behind with getting things ready for the new month, + article of the day, follow-up a review begun ... - No time to even look what this is about. Rambling Man, BrownHairedGirl, listen to music and stick to 2 comments, whatever the topic. I'll check in later - which may be after the concert - and then a short summary of what the topic is would help. The Times

Do you have access to The Times? I found a significant article in the Guardian, but I think a search of other UK newspapers would be helpful for this. SusunW (talk) 06:04, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

SusunW, I do have access to The Times digital archives, but the only significant result I can find on Winifred Barker is a piece on 12 November 1963, which name-checks her as the Chief Superintendent of the Metropolitan Police. [1] I can't see an obituary, which I'd normally expect for an obviously notable person. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:06, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
Thanks! It was the middle of the night and I was running out of steam, but thought you might have access. I think one of the only things I miss living here is libraries. SusunW (talk) 13:32, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
Next question, she died in Brockworth, Gloucestershire, 30 years after her post more or less. That's a significant distance from London. Are there regional papers for that area that are available? SusunW (talk) 13:47, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
Yes, there's the Gloucester Citizen (I used some of its more recent news pieces in Air Balloon (pub) which is just up the road from Brockworth) whose archives will be stored in the Gloucester public library. The hard part is accessing them; I don't believe they have been digitised and put online. From a quick look, the British Newspaper Archives do have some Gloucester Citizen content, but only up to about 1950. [2] Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:55, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for your help. I've done what I can. We'll see how the chips fall. SusunW (talk) 15:52, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

Block of Manticore

Hello. I am reviewing this block as part of my regular monitoring of CAT:UNBLOCK. I have to say this does not look like a good block. The IP was not only blanking content without explanation, but also making violent comments about the user[3]. This was vandalism pure and simple, the edit summary used my Manticore does not change that fact.

I have blocked the IP's /64 range for a week with talk page access revoked for their "bn the shit out of him, kick him in the dust, hang him feet first, and shoot him a hundred times, like they did with mussolini" comment.

I am fully confident that Manticore was acting in good faith and I see no chance of the edit war continuing considering the IP has been blocked for their violent comments. They have a 14 year track record of good editing and this situation seems no different. I am hoping that you are unaware of the full circumstances and will reverse this block yourself. HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 10:01, 2 July 2021 (UTC)

"The IP was not only blanking content without explanation - According to the history of Ján Volko, the IP was adding the text "Volko enjoys playing NHL video games and Gran Turismo with his friends" and citing this reference : "When I'm alone, I have a Horizon Zero Dawn or a race like Gran Turismo. I can say that I am - not addicted - but I like games". If Manticore is not fully aware of the dispute resolution policies by having a myopic view of the encyclopedia, then he needs to learn them. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:09, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
Okay. I am not going to unilaterally reverse this decision. But I am going to advise the user to request a broader review of the block an WP:AN. They can decide from there. HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 10:10, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
If Manticore had written an unblock request like "Okay, I over-reacted, I'm not going to touch that article anymore or interact with that editor as they're just rude" I would have unblocked. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:12, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
Dude he was on recent changes patrol, he has no vested interest in that article. HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 10:14, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
But I didn't know that because nobody had explained that. All I could see were two editors reverting each other on what didn't appear to be exempt from WP:3RRNO, so a block on both was necessary to prevent disruption while I talked to them. As for "I've been here for 14 years, mostly reverting vandalism", well that's a shame, in general I think we get better editors if they try and work outside of their usual comfort zone and expertise. It's why I write the odd woman biography for Women in Red, after all. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:44, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
Personally, I don't touch biographies of odd women with a bargepole. But whatever floats your boat I guess, dude. Martinevans123 (talk) 10:59, 2 July 2021 (UTC)

Thank you. I appreciate you were willing to do that even when you did not agree with me. Extra respect. HighInBC Need help? Just ask. 10:21, 2 July 2021 (UTC)

I think it's really important that if there's not an obvious consensus for an admin action, it shouldn't be done, and I think all administrators should adhere to that. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:44, 2 July 2021 (UTC)

Re: Marriage and BLP

Most IPs don't have the time, energy or interest for Wiki-admin minutiae. Like many of them, I just want to find good information and hope to add some from time to time. I literally had this same, stupid fight happen 12 years ago on a spouse issue. Admitted disinterest in procedure on my part is one thing, but the zealous, bureaucratic blocking of accurate data is against the entire spirit of Wikipedia's existence.

I have zero patience for anyone who immediately prevents updates based on understanding policy solely rather than grasping facts. Honestly, it's just bizarre to me that the simple addition of a spouse's name leads to punitive dismissals rather than productive assistance.

You give me hope this whole thing isn't one big racket! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:5c2:300:62e:2d79:1c9f:332b:6b05 (talk) 18:27, 2 July 2021 (UTC)

One Big Racket
(talk page stalker): Martinevans123
Obviously I can't speak for anyone else, but the central point at every edit or admin action I make is "Does this improve the encyclopedia?" Yes, WP:BLPSOURCES is a good policy, and exists to stop libel appearing in Wikipedia. However, in the case of Sara Ganim, we'd already established elsewhere that her marriage was covered in the New York Times, so it is not difficult for any established editor to add a source. For future reference, the easiest way to directly cite a claim like this is to use the source editor and type <ref>https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/27/fashion/weddings/sara-ganim-daniel-cevallos.html</ref> directly afterwards (replacing what appears inside the "ref" tags with the URL displayed in your browser). This edit does more than that, formatting the reference using the established {{cite news}} template, but that's not required to ensure the biography is kept properly verifiable and correct at all times. People talking about the minimum standard for inline citations aren't really explaining why we do that, which is the important point.
As far as IP editing goes, those of us who have had established accounts for years forget how cumbersome it is to have to register for something. For example, a few weeks back, I needed a USB wi-fi dongle for my dad's laptop whose wifi card had died, where mail order would take too long (I would have been back home when it arrived), and decided to use Argos' click and collect system. I got up to ordering the product, asked to give a bunch of registration details like my real name, phone number and email, and thought "fuck that" and drove 15 miles to the store to order it in-house. I'm less amenable to IPs taking part in discussions, and particularly project discussions, simply because too often, those sorts of edits tend to be trolls or sockpuppets of banned editors. But I'm dead against having to create an account in order to change "teh" to "the". Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:57, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
I could have lived without the block for edit-fighting with someone who deserved to be banned indefinitely, but, you know, whatever. I was definitely pissed when someone with zero tolerance (or full contempt) for IPs tried to block me for a week. I'll be damned if anyone steeped only in policy and procedure tries to prevent good data rather than encourage it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:5C2:300:62E:255A:7815:3AA0:C83 (talk) 12:47, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

DYK nomination of 93% Club

Hello! Your submission of 93% Club at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) at your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Lemuellio (talk) 20:49, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you, Ritchie. I didn't feel right saying anything. I was a bit unnerved by the use of my mother's name. I don't know if it's a sock account or not but it kinda bothered me. --ARoseWolf 10:50, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

ARoseWolf, In any case, if a user has a name closed to an established one, it can be soft blocked with a rename forced. That's happened here, which doesn't appear to have been problematic. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:51, 5 July 2021 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Tower Bridge

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Tower Bridge you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of GeneralPoxter -- GeneralPoxter (talk) 13:20, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

GeneralPoxter, It will probably be tomorrow / Wednesday before I can sit down with my pile of sources and address the issues. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:50, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
All right, no worries. GeneralPoxter (talkcontribs) 13:33, 5 July 2021 (UTC)

Dear Mr Admin, please could you take a look at recent edits here? Thank you. Martinevans123 (talk) 14:03, 5 July 2021 (UTC)

I have taken a look. A more substantial problem with the article is the abundance of "On [day] [month] [year], x happened. On [day] [month] [year], y happened." which is a sign that people have just bolted on news items on the end of the article without looking at the whole thing from a top level. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 13:53, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Hope your shares in CrowdJustice are doing well. Yes, it needs a good going over. Martinevans123 (talk) 14:06, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Tower Bridge

The article Tower Bridge you nominated as a good article has failed ; see Talk:Tower Bridge for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of the article. Help?

This edit removed comments from several other users without notifying them. Seems like a really weird action in an AfD discussion, but I don't go there often, maybe I am wrong? SusunW (talk) 20:55, 9 July 2021 (UTC)

Okay, never mind, someone fixed the issue. SusunW (talk) 21:11, 9 July 2021 (UTC)

In His Own Write

Hi Ritchie333. I've got John Lennon's first book, In His Own Write, up as an FAC. Given your work on some Beatles articles I thought you may be interested, but I understand if not. Cheers. Tkbrett (✉) 00:17, 16 July 2021 (UTC)

I'll have a look if I've got time, but to be honest, time is difficult (I've been meaning to write up Aerodrums for about a week). JG66 is probably your best bet to have a look over it. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:26, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Ritchie, no worries if you don't get to it. JG has swooped in to help, so I'm in good hands. Tkbrett (✉) 19:29, 17 July 2021 (UTC)

Drill it's partial block

Hey. Could you maybe get the user to agree not to edit war on that page any more so that the partial block can be lifted? It's causing a bit of disruption at RfPP (diff) due to the bot not wanting, multiple-multiple times... Best, El_C 18:18, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

We don't protect an article and it's talkpage but you did to Oprah with Meghan and Harry. The allegation was "sockpuppetry" made by Drill it without evidence. If you have evidence please state it here, otherwise please unprotect. 2.99.8.251 (talk) 18:56, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
IP, it's clear to me from the revision history, which shows that the last admin (Future Perfect at Sunrise) protected that article talk page for one month, from May 17 to June 17, which obviously did not have the desired effect, as the disruption continued from June 21 on. Anyway, if you wish to challenge the protection, you may do so at WP:RFPU. El_C 19:20, 30 June 2021 (UTC)

The problem with Drill it is I've not seen him string together a coherent sentence that would sit in an encyclopedia article. Consequently, I think he's going to get blocked sooner or later the next time he mistakes a good faith edit for vandalism and is staring at an unblock request. Some "near misses" include edit-warring on Alyssa Carson (can be explained by WP:3RRBLP), India at the 2020 Summer Olympics (either vandalism or an IP getting frustrated, either way a revert is correct) and Susan Stryker (revering possible BLP violation back to consensus, but the IP looks like good faith). Then there's the discussion elsewhere that suggests he's a sockpuppet of CLCStudent (talk · contribs) (has anyone run a checkuser?). Anyway, nothing warranting an indef block yet, but I think it's just a matter of time. I'm not going to comment on the IP's issue because WP:BEANS. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:57, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

Now that you mention it, I see how Drill it being CLCStudent would align. Needless to say, I didn't realize any of this. I just noticed their RfPP requests (in the double-digits) where the bot would automatically note that the filer is blocked, thereby leading to multiple users responding with something to the effect of 'but it's an unrelated partial block' — that sort of general time wastage. PS: I like burritos! El_C 11:05, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
I found out by chance (because Drill it has been aggressively archiving to history) that ToBeFree applauded Drill it for repeatedly changing the name of the Mayor of London (Sadiq Khan) to "Khan Sadiq". He describes the IP Drill it was attacking (who was trying to correct the name) as "a sockpuppet" and "long-term vandal". He directs Drill it to an outstanding SPI investigation - shouldn't he have waited for the judgment? The SPI was later closed no action. Such behaviour from CLCStudent/Drill it can be dealt with, but when it comes from an administrator that's serious.
I'll let the article talk page protection ride, but how can you justify the protection of the article itself when there was no edit warring and the talk page discussion was already underway? 2.99.8.251 (talk) 12:04, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
IP, why would I need to justify it? I'm not the one who protected it (that, again, was Future Perfect at Sunrise). El_C 13:35, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

Proposed Women in Green Editathon

Hello Richie -- With the goal of helping to progress the WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) women’s rights-themed GA nomination goal for 2021, I’m proposing that WiG hold a special editathon event in the fall (maybe October/November?). I can assist with logistics, but I need to know how much interest/support there might be from WiG participants first. Please let me know what you think in the talk page conversation! All the best, Alanna the Brave (talk) 02:21, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for participating in my RFA

I will never be able to repay your enthusiasm in the online poll which led me to deciding to run for moppage. You kids made me feel welcome and worthy. Now all I have to do is not screw it up. You know where I am. (Hold my) Feet to fire if need be. BusterD (talk) 15:49, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

BusterD, I think this is a good example to show that if you have a good set of nominators and supporters behind you, RfA can be a pretty straightforward experience. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:02, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

Bummer! I had assumed it's pronounced si-mer (with a long i, rhyming with "timer"). But if you want to cummer in someone's butty, who am I to say "no"? --Tryptofish (talk) 18:59, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

Car booty boy
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

Dai is at the car boot sale when an American tourist comes by. Pointing to a skull on display in Dai's car, he says: “Whose skull is that?”

“That,” says Dai profoundly, “is the skull of Owain Glyndwr. It's yours for £10.”

“Incredible,” says the American. “I'll take it.”

Some weeks later, Dai is at the car boot sale when the same American walks past and notices a much smaller skull for sale.

“Whose skull it that?” asks the American.

“That,” says Dai in a practised voice, “is the skull of Owain Glyndwr.”

“Hang on,” says the American. “You sold me the skull of Owain Glyndwr a few weeks ago.”

“Aye, well see... ” says Dai. “This is when he was a boy.”

p.s. any idea on the time signature here? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:57, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
Martinevans123, It varies between 10/8 (three, thee, four) and 12/8 (three, three, six). You might be able to find a fuller explanation from Rick Beato (especially if he's covered "Whipping Post" in his "What makes this song great?" series). Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:38, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
