Bahamut0013

Hello RightCowLeftCoast, we both participated in a conversation on the USA article (about whether the American Revolution was the only war of independence against Britain) which led me to your profile. Totally unrelated to that conversation, I saw a memorial banner on your page to Bahamut0013. The name sounded familiar, and when I visited his user page I saw that he was a Final Fantasy fan. Now I remember that we were actually members of the same Final Fantasy group about ten years ago. We spoke a few times via message board and PM about his love of Final Fantasy and the Marines. Only knew him online for a couple months, but I remember him being a really genuine guy. We hadn't spoken since and I had no idea he was an admin on Wikipedia. I'm shocked and incredibly sad to learn about his passing. I wanted to give my condolences and wasn't really sure how to do that other than on your talk page. California

Hi, could you please explain your recent revert of my edit to California. Manhatten is clearly a spelling error as you may easily confirm by looking at the relevant web link given which you can see here. After you have looked, perhaps you would consider reverting your revert. Jodosma (talk) 18:57, 28 March 2015 (UTC)

Southern Strategy neutrality dispute.

@RightCowLeftCoast:I wanted to let you know I have added additional references to the neutrality dispute. [[1]] Thanks! Sorry, it appears, perhaps by design this neutrality case is going no where. I do not know who Scoobydunk is but base on a long history of warnings and his/her behavior in the discussion it appears the intent is simply to cause things to crash. I prose that we leave the dispute open for the time until I get a chance to make a few edits. Tuna industry

I think we have that section in great shape. But I was wondering: is the "Yippie Fleet" during WW II mentioned in any other articles? I certainly think they deserve to have their here story somewhere, either in a military article or a merchant marine article. But I'm not familiar enough with our coverage of WW II to know where to look. Any thoughts? --MelanieN (talk) 00:51, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

@MelanieN: Not significantly from what I have seen, there is mention of it in Yard patrol boat, but it is not as well cited or as well developed as the section in History of San Diego. However, I did include some information in the article Japanese American.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 00:58, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
Good, that Yard Patrol article looks like the place to put it, all right. That's why they were called the Yippie Fleet, right? Because their boats were designated YP? --MelanieN (talk) 02:16, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
@MelanieN: Yes. Yes.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 03:15, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

Resurrection of Southern California Task Force

After moving from Los Angeles County to Kern County to San Luis Obispo County, I am finally realizing that there is life in California outside of L.A. and San Francisco, where I lived and grew up. Oh, I have also lived in San Diego, San Bernardino, San Joaquin, Yolo and Sacramento counties, and I earned my undergraduate degree in Riverside County. I am trying to breathe life into the Southern California Task Force, and I hope you will join me. Could you visit our list of participants at the other end of this link and update your description of what you are interested in doing for us, assuming that you still want to be in the mix, that is.

In recompense, I will buy you a drink during the Wikipedia Welcome Week I am planning for Morro Bay on the Central Coast in July. Yours sincerely, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 18:45, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Italian American Article

I am somewhat perplexed concerning the flag you raised in the Culture section of the Italian American article. This quite long section already has 40 references. It would be helpful if you used "reference needed" flags as appropriate in this section, or let me know on my Talk page what you consider the general shortcomings to be. Philantonia (talk) 14:20, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

There are whole paragraphs and sentences lacking reliable source references, thus the tag. Thus IMHO it was an appropriate use of the tag. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that anyone can edit, therefore seeing an issue but not having the time at that moment to fix the issue that I saw, I left a tag.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 17:51, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
I am still quite baffled that someone who has never contributed to the article can make a snap judgment that a major section is "lacking in reliable source references" (when, in fact, there are 40 references incorporated). I think it is incumbent upon you to either be more precise with one or more "citation needed' flags, or remove your tag. Yes, its true anyone can edit an article, but the highest standards of Wikipedia editing should always prevail. Philantonia (talk) 20:42, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
Blah, blah, blah. Stop pestering me.
I saw sentences and whole paragraphs missing references. If Philantonia feels that those not normally editing the article shouldn't be noting issues, there is page protection which could be applied for. I don't understand the mountain created out of this mole hill. Either improve the section and remove the tag. Or remove the tag and leave those mulititude of sentences and paragraph subject to possible challenge. I don't care, enough about the subject to continue this convo.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 21:02, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
Entries like: "Italian American culture, and transplanted Italian culture, have influenced American culture in a variety of ways, such as: Italian restaurants, foods, coffees and desserts; wine production (in California and elsewhere in the U.S.) and consumption; popular music, starting in the 1940s and 1950s, and continuing into the present; operatic, classical and instrumental music; fashion and design; "Capra-esque" movies (in the style of Frank Capra); Italianate architecture, in homes, churches, and public buildings; Montessori schools; Christmas crèches; fireworks displays; bocce; Columbus Day parades; and the commemoration of Columbus, as reflected in numerous monuments, city names, names of institutions and the poetic name, "Columbia", for the United States itself." are based on a generally recognized part of American culture, and do not require documented proof (however, I will where possible make links to other Wikipedia articles). In other cases, the statement is only an extension of what has been discussed previously in the article. Finally, your response to a legitimately (and politely posed concern on my part) is inconsistent with the highest standard of Wikipedia protocol Philantonia (talk) 22:27, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
LoL, unexplained re-addition of non-verified non-sourced content is high standards. LoL. Stop trolling me.
If that was an IP editing I would consider that vandalism. LoL.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 22:40, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Uber regulation summary: help needed

Hi RightCowLeftCoast, I'm reaching out to each of the editors who commented on the "Request for Comment" at Talk:Uber (company) re: the Uber article's section on regulation and legal issues. As you might remember, editors were overwhelmingly in favor of splitting off that information into a new article, then summarizing in the Uber article. While the first part happened, there has been no movement on the summarizing and Regulatory opposition continues to grow and grow. To help kickstart that process, I've put forward a draft for everyone to take a look at that aims to cover the key details in a summary form: Summarizing Regulatory opposition

My conflict of interest means that it's best for me not to be bold and move this into the article myself, but I hope that it can at least be a starting point for other editors to work from. Would you mind coming back to the page to have a look? Craig at Uber (talk) 19:52, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

Tdeas for a Nomination

While "Editor named after a city"'s editing count has been low recently, he has been a fair-minded and quality editor for many years. With 80% article-space editing among his 6000 edits, his ability to edit fairly in the challenging arena of Real World Global politics is commendable. His main interest was the article History of Israel. He edited with an understanding of mutual editorial recognition and the collaboration of equals. He was willing to discuss contentious material which was constantly at issue. His own statement, "(my) edits are made in good faith and are not out of a desire to sell political points." is a clear indication of his awareness that WP is a place for mutual resolution.

This is just a rough draft, an example. Make changes if you like. loooking froward to your nomination. . Buster Seven Talk 17:58, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Would you please take a look

Would you please take a look at the edits and related talk sections I've been working on for this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_strategy#Evolution The section in particular is one regarding Reagan and a campaign speech in 1980. The article contains references to those who claim the speech was proof of racism yet when I try to add references that suggest otherwise they are reverted by a pair of editors. What frustrates me is they are not justifying the reverts in the talk page. I'm basically looking for an outside opinion on my Talk page arguments and the edits. I feel that the editors are simply protecting the current tone of the article regardless of the facts presented. Thanks https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Southern_strategy#Opinion_Pieces Getoverpops (talk) 00:05, 18 June 2015 (UTC) Could you help me with one other issue? I realized some of my footnotes were done incorrectly. I wanted to avoid the long quotes that support my references so I tried to embed the text in the reference. This isn't correct but I'm trying to figure out how to make my references in context with your combined references. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Footnotes#Footnotes:_embedding_references ThanksGetoverpops (talk) 02:27, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

@Getoverpops: Try looking at Template:Cite book. Enter the text in "|laysummary=" along with "|laydate=". This way the book can be linked to, and the summary can be kept.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 03:42, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

I wanted to thank you for the inputs on the Southern Strategy page. Sadly I think my combination of enthusiasm and novice understanding of the rules will be called edit waring by a few posters, in particular as a way to guard the current slant of the article. Anyway, I will probably be told that I'm no longer welcome on that topic. A pity as I think the topic needs work and your posts were finally offering a bit of balance. Either way, if this is how things shake up, thank you for the help. Getoverpops (talk) 04:16, 20 June 2015 (UTC)

Persons who write Tagalog who may write articles on school districts in Canada and the USA?

RightCowLeftCoast,

Do you know any Wikipedians who write Tagalog and who are interested in writing Tagalog articles on Canadian school districts? The Vancouver School Board, Peel District School Board, and Toronto District School Board have posted documents in Tagalog, and the San Francisco Unified School District also has documents in Tagalog. I think it would be beneficial to have Tagalog-language articles on these school districts on the Tagalog Wikipedia.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
