There will be no end to that[edit]

Hello Riana!

Also, I started a new discussion on Talk:Jodhaa Akbar.

The subject doesn't really interest me, and I don't really have a POV here, but the problem is that emphasis, misrepresentation, POV freak me out. And my analysis on the page clearly shows that this user was trying to emphasise his own POV. Regardless of what Akbar's wife's real name was, I think we have to present views fairly, not to make conclusions. I believe that the best way to present the matter is, "according to several historians, Jodhaa Bai was not the name of Akbar's wife" and not "Jodhaa Bai never existed". That's why I have written a new version of the text.

This user ignored my analysis. He tries to present his POV as a fact. I personally have no POV. Whether she was Jodhaa Bai or not -- I don't really care. I do care for the way it is written on the page. Historians' views cannot be considered as pure facts, especially considering they are just views and there isn't any concievable evidence to justify it.

So could you please comment on there? Or do you know someone whom I can ask to do it? ShahidTalk2me 17:56, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Template:R_from_alternative_punctuation[edit]

This template has me stuck, What is it's purpose? It redirects to Category:Protected redirects and is also in the category. Surely it should explain something about it being a redirect? And there is a whole heap of places that are redirects from different punctuation but they are not in fact protected. Any ideas on this? -- maelgwn - talk 00:06, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea what conceivable purpose it might serve. But it's linked from lots of places, it seems. I'd ask someone more savvy about templates before TfD-ing or whatever :) ~ Riana 01:11, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ta Jc. Commented. ~ Riana 19:41, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's been speedily closed. I'm not thrilled for several reasons. The main one is that, in even the recent past, I've seen admins speedily delete such pages, and then have the discussion at DRV. I'm not a fan of that, so I tried the "process" route. And noting that most comments centered on "notability" rather than copy-vio, I think "speedy" is could be questioned. Well anyway, so much for following process in this case.
That aside, you mentioned about becoming more involved with the article, though not soon (for presumed obvious reasons), so I'll wait for a bit before going further. - jc37 21:18, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Hkelkar"[edit]

While I am under no illusions about the depth of Hkelkar's malice, Kuntan has been impersonating him, and upwards of 400 million Indians share some sort of similar worldview. Certainly for an accomplished admin like yourself, finding someone to perform a checkuser and (perhaps) confirm your suspicions couldn't be that hard.Bakaman 07:02, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What leads you to believe I haven't done so already? ~ Riana 07:25, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Because there is no mention of "thomsonandsthomson" on the checkuser page, and the checkuser's stated they had dug up all Hkelkar socks. I dont care that the user is blocked (since it didnt seem like a good faith editor anyways), but I merely want to see all blocks of Hkelkar, BhaiSaab, TerryJho, etc go through proper channels.Bakaman 21:00, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Riana. Case now complete and  Confirmed - Alison 06:34, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for being transparent on the issue. Its just that Kuntan/BhaiSaab have been impersonating Hkelkar in the past, and perhaps vice-versa, so I feel it is good to make sure we are blaming this on the right sockpuppeteer when all three are (sadly) active on Wikipedia.Bakaman 05:07, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RfB thoughts and questions[edit]

I'll say up front that Lar mentioned you as a good candidate. So if there's bias here, that's it.

I've seen you "around", obviously. (As we see most prolific contributors "around".)

I just don't know if I know you well enough, even from looking over your edit history, to be more than "neutral".

That said, I've 4 kinda blunt questions for you. Totally optional (just as they are in RfB), but I'd rather ask them here than there.

1.) I could care less about the Kelly-drama statements/opposes in the RfB, for the most part. KM is/was a WP:BOLD (though possibly sometimes reckless, per that page) contributor, for better or worse. That said, I'm interested in your thought process about the nomination. More of a "what was going n in your head" kind of thing. Motivation for the nom, and what your expectations were, both for Kelly, and for that particular AfD. - jc37 21:06, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My nomination was motivated mainly by an interest to see whether the community can heal itself. Whether a project which is effectively a meta-experiment in AGF can actually do so, when it comes to larger problems. I have learned that neither Kelly nor my actions were accepted in good faith by many people. My expectations were low (perhaps that's my problem?!) and neither did I expect the RfA to pass, nor did I assume that all the problems surrounding Kelly and her relationships with others would be magically resolved by a single 7-day discussion. I have talked more about this on my RfB talkpage - perhaps you'll have a look if you have a chance. ~ Riana 14:13, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So do you think that RfA can be useful as a "test" of community "feeling"? - jc37 18:53, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
RfA is a test of community feeling. Whether the community feels you're good enough. ~ Riana 07:58, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, from everything you've said here and elsewhere, it sounds like you may have been confusing RfA with RfC. Or to put it another way, it was an RfC with an option for the admin tools, possibly.
To be honest, I don't think that that was necessarily a good way to do that. I tend to WP:AGF, and would like to presume that all noms are made with the intention and/or expectation of passing. In reading over the nom, it appeared that even KM didn't expect to pass.
That said, I currently can't think of any way that would have anything to do with your receiving the "extra tools" of bureaucratship, except possibly as a question of discernment. - jc37 02:26, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2.) There was a recent drama contention concerning an "aside" comment of a checkuser in an RfA. What do you think about the comment. Was it appropriate. What do you think about its effect (if any) upon the RfA. Was that effect (if any) appropriate. Do you think that that incident had any lasting effects upon Wikipedia. Upon RfA. Upon Bureaucrats. Upon Bureaucratic discernment. - jc37 21:06, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The comment was inappropriate, given its ill-considered and casual interjection into a debate which was being approached by most others in a rational and well-thought-out manner. Summoning up all my AGF, I believe that the comment was intended to 'drop a bombshell', and it obviously had the required effect. It did, however, persuade many, regretfully including myself. So I guess the question is this - would I find it inappropriate if the accusations were true? Yes. I did at the time, even if I did withdraw my support based on it. I think (or hope) it's affected RfA by making people more cautious, both in their evaluation of candidates, and in the effect their comments may have on other participants. I don't believe it's affected bureaucrats or bureaucratic discernment/discretion very much - it was difficult to make out at the time whether the accusations were true or not, and besides, the candidate withdrew, making bureaucratic action unnecessary. I should hope that it's had a bigger impact on Checkuser policy than anything else. ~ Riana 14:13, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

3.) (Though I've read some comments of yours already concerning it) Where do you feel the balance of discernment of consensus lies in determining an RfA? - jc37 21:06, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(I'll answer this for you later - I'm a little tired and would like to have a think about it!) ~ Riana 14:13, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough (waits semi-patiently : ) - jc37 18:53, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose what you're asking is... where do I think bureaucratic discretion comes into play? Numerically, I suppose, anything between 65-75% would need thinking about. Really though, it all depends on strength of arguments, and I can't give a blanket response to this. ~ Riana 07:58, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's not quite what I was asking, but you ended up answering my question anyway : ) - jc37 02:26, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

4.) What does it mean to you to be a bureaucrat? - jc37 21:06, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing. Really. I'd just like to help out. I think I'm competent to do so. I'd like to think a few others do too. If I fail, they don't, and I've been misleading myself. :) ~ Riana 14:13, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you in advance for your answers and consideration. - jc37 21:06, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jc. Thanks for coming to me with your own thoughts, I really appreciate it. Much better than opposing/supporting because someone else thought it was a good idea! :) I'll try hard to answer your questions here. If there's anything you'd like cleared up, you know where to come.
I'll get back to you on Q3, but I hope this helps, for now. Feel free to question me on any points requiring clarification. ~ Riana 14:13, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for sincerely answering the questions. Based on them, I think I'm neutral leaning towards support. I'm going list myself as neutral, but may change as your RfA continues. - jc37 02:26, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Riana, would you be opposed to temporarily unprotecting or semi-protecting {{GNF GO}}? I just noticed that there are some rendering edits related to this template. For example, check out STAT2 (click the javascript "Show" link by "Gene Ontology"). I'm pretty sure it worked fine before, but maybe this was a subtle difference with the new mediawiki parser? In any case, there is a reasonable fix that is done in the article itself, but before we write a bot to clean all this up, I was hoping I could find a solution with some tinkering on the template. Thanks! AndrewGNF (talk) 16:59, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was originally a redirect, but User:Sheerian made it into an article. Since the two articles shared the same content, I decided to make it back into a redirect. The problem in that, of course, is that it is your (at least semi-)regular editing constructively that will demonstrate that you are sufficiently acquainted with policy and possessed of sufficiently good judgment as to render it likely that there should be no grand problems with your working in project space. FWICT, you have made some solid contributions in mainspace over the past weeks, and I would, then, urge you to continue participating in the project propitiously. To be sure, though, if you fear that you will be unable to avoid the temptation of editing in contravention of the guidelines the community has laid down (or otherwise editing in a way that isn't particularly helpful, as in the section above), you might do well to take a wikibreak, but you should probably recognize that the community will not countenance your returning to project space editing immediately upon your return, lest some of the previous issues should present themselves straightaway. OTRS[edit]

Hello Riana!!! I see that you work with OTRS and need to know the best way to go about this. I recently created the article Mack Dryden, who himself is a fellow Mississippian (as in, he and I are born and raised in Mississippi) and is a famous comedian and actor, although more known for his comedy. The majority of the content of the article is from email exchanges I am having with him. I let him know all about Wikipedia and requested details about his life and career, and he's been happy to share. My question arose as to how in the world do I source email exchanges. User:Cometstyles told me OTRS, so here I am! So how does this work and what do I need to do? And how exactly do you source OTRS in an article? I mean, it's not a link that any user can just go to, to verify the information.. so I'm curious about that as well. Thanks for your help! - ALLSTAR echo 10:42, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flickr[edit]

HI Riana I am in a bit of a muddle with those OTRS tickets. I have made an agreement with Arie at flickr to use all of his images of south east asia. I have uploaded an image to Kirirom National Park but I can't remember if it has been oTRS ticketed yet with that user and I have forgotten what the tickets are on the other agremeents i have made. Could you please help me get it sorted. I'll create a page of flickr agreements I have made for future reference . Thanks ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:16, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User Arie at flickr. I made the agremeent months ago but initially I coulnd't upload them due to saving errors. However he contacted me on Feb 22 to say sorry for the delay and that he has changed it so I can freely upload his images. I've created a page at User:Blofeld of SPECTRE/Flickr agreements where I want to have a directory of all the OTRS tickets so I can make life easier for myself!!! Could you help me fill it in? I have recently asked somebody to use hundreds of images on uzbekistan, tajistan etc -that is in the pipeline hopefully -I'm waiting for a reply ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:32, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For instance images like Image:Djiboutimarket.jpg should have the OTRS ticketing on them . I believe this was sorted but I can't find the ticketing ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:37, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yes could you do that? That would be great. My latest agreements I have asked them can you license them under GFDL or Creative commons but the earlier agreements I didn't ask I don't think. There shouldn't be a problem but it will probably need to be affirmed. Its just I want to get it organized so I know exactly where everything is and can proceed to upload images with the correct procedure ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:41, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For example some of my images where I know I have had the OTRS sorted I can't find the ticketing, meaning that some of the photos were uploaded to wikipedia instead and haven;t all got the relevant ticket on them ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:42, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Yes I'm just concerned that my images like Image:Akwidaa3.jpg etc as with many others haven;t got the ticketing on. I think it would be good idea to find all of the images I have uploaded from flickr both on wikipedia and on the commons and check they have the ticketing sorted. Feel free to add to User:Blofeld of SPECTRE/Flickr agreements and fill in the missing tickets or users . You're a gem cheers! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:48, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your RfB was unsuccessful[edit]

I am sorry to inform you that I have closed your RfB as unsuccessful following discussion with other bureaucrats. Your nomination enjoyed a record level of support and I hope that will not be lost on you in light of the unfavourable outcome of your nomination. The threshold for becoming a bureaucrat has long been set at a high bar and it was not felt appropriate to deviate from that at this time. It is my hope in spite of stresses involved in the process, that you will consider running again at some point in the future. Best wishes, WjBscribe 14:09, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Riana, I suggest taking any steps possible to overturn this decision. Wikipedia is not a bureaucracy and WJBscribe clearly overstepped his authority. If need be, RFC.   Zenwhat (talk) 23:32, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Half Congrats[edit]

Congratulations, Riana, for the community consensus you achieved on becoming a bureaucrat! :-) I am sorry that your RfB was nonetheless closed as unsuccessful, in a clear violation of our so proudly cherished WP:Consensus. Maybe that decision will be reconsidered in the near future, and you'll be rightfully equipped with the tools you were approved access to. In the mean time, you are obviously an honorary bureaucrat and I shall consider you as one. I'm very proud of you. :-) Look, controversial userbox below! Amsoil Dispute[edit]

Riana, I'm not sure this can be resolved. I understand your point on 3RR, and didn't know the rule. Nevertheless, it appears to me that the dispute over Controversy section is not going to be resolved because I'm being accused of some things I didn't even do and others are presented out of context. I might just leave the article alone for a while even after the protection is removed, that might help. Thanks.--THE FOUNDERS INTENT TALK 19:04, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    • Wiki was not built via backroom politicking. Your statement "I'm being accused of some things I didn't even do and others are presented out of context." lacks substance and might be considered inappropriate. If you feel you have an argument to put forward for the editing of the article please feel free to express it, fully, at the Amsoil discussion page. Unsupported accusations, about further alleged non-specific accusations, presented off the topic page are rarely useful. Remember, this is about an encyclopedia entry. 13:52, 10 March 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.56.56.244 (talk)
Hi the pair of you, I had a fairly brief look at the dispute here and all I can say to both of you is that Wikipedia prefers reliable secondary sources to primary sources. I'd recommend doing some research further afield of Amsoil's own website or press releases, especially for the controversy section. Naturally also use the talkpage to discuss, and perhaps work on the controversy section on the talkpage until you reach a mutually agreeable solution. ~ Riana 14:03, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback. I understand your statement regarding sources, but I was trying to improve that section, and was basically revising statement based on the existing content, and providing what I thought were the best sources available in that regard. I did not start the section from scratch and therefore maybe the section is a poor example regardless. --THE FOUNDERS INTENT TALK 16:16, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Your failed application for 'Cratcy (commiserations by the way) has prompted this discussion. I have been generally defending the process, and suggesting that you would recognise the legitimacy of a policy of equal standards for all applicants. Since I have taken no part in any recent 'Crat application I see myself as uninvolved, but I am suddenly mindful that I have been speaking for you - as it were - with no sense or knowledge what your position might be. If you disagree with any of the comments I have made please let me know so I can rectify them. Cheers. LessHeard vanU (talk) 23:01, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Riana. I hope you won't take it amiss that I offer condolences on your not being promoted, even though I was an opposer. Hi Riana, even though I was an "oppose", I'm very surprised that your RfB did not pass! I hadn't kept up with the debate, mainly for that reason, and still need to read it all. And I'm sure that you will pass very soon if you decide to stand again. For me it was about the possible moodiness, rather than the Kelly Martin issues. Re your RfB[edit]

I want to commend you for deleting User:Riana/RfB. When I saw it three nights ago, I wanted to tell you, "I don't know what this is about, but it can't be good." As you may recall, I did something similar after my second RfA, and I've come to regret it.

I need to finish writing about the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center. I'm going to dedicate it to the memory of a medical student friend who died last week. So if I can offer words of encouragement to you, your continuing effort is a real inspiration to people like me, and the good words we write here may outlast our own lives, limited as they are in location and time. Activity[edit]

Riana, I am fine. Never better. I was on holiday in Hong Kong and Java, where internet access is difficult almost past belief - the only contact is via a fibreoptic trunk cable via Singapore, which sustained damage while I was there (I didn't do it) reducing traffic to about 10% of normal. You will also have noticed a sudden drop-off on a longer scale, over the latter part of last year. You may recall that I lost my wife just over a year ago; I now have a new partner and have a little less available time for wiki, though I have no intention of ever leaving. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 17:30, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't it Internet Explorer's fault that it is marginalizing users for using web standards? Hate the sinner (Microsoft) or else we will be stuck with the sin (IE6 and 7) forever.
If you care, the flaw isn't there in IE8 (when it isn't masquerading as IE7). Btw, her vendetta isn't against IE users only - every web browser sans Firefox (due to the use -moz-border-radius, which is a Mozilla-specific way to get rounded borders) from rendering it in full glory. What is the OTRS procedure for permissions?[edit]

I am currently looking into the ORTS permissions process and saw on meta:OTRS#Permissions that you were one of the people to whom OTRS slips could be sent. Thus, if someone wanted to approve their images to be used on Wikipedia, what precisely should they do? I.e., where do they click, what do they write etc.? Is the process any different for sound files? Also, if person x gets permission from person y to use person y's images/music/whatever on person x's website etc., does person x then have the right to give permission for person y's stuff to be used on Wikipedia, or would person y have to give additional permission?

Also, in my particular case, I am interested in putting screenshots back onto the Europa Barbarorum article (they were deleted previously due to not having free-use templates). I know that videogames' screenshots need {{non-free screenshot}} on their image pages, but as Europa Barbarorum is a modification that is available for download online for free (although it does require Rome: Total War to play, which is obviously a commercial PC game), does it count as free software, and constantly would a {{free screenshot}} template do? Thanks! It Is Me Here (talk) 08:28, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Riana! I ask for your help please.

The above user keeps vandalising articles. He is constantly blanking articles, adding false info in award pages, list of awards pages, actor articles and so on. I'm not talking about wrestling, but about Bollywood related articles. See the diffs - all of it is false. He adds awards of 2009!!! He changes names of winners, blanks filmographies, lists. Block of User:Viridae[edit]

Hi David, I've undone your block of this user. He was given the bare minimum of warnings and his disruption was fairly limited. It seems discourteous to me to block a user in good standing under these circumstances. I will understand if you wish to contes this action. Best, ~ Riana 12:44, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

His disruption (which entailed the vandalism of millions of pages) was "fairly limited"?
First, he vandalised MediaWiki:Watchdetails to falsely inform users that they'd been blocked from editing. Next (after being warned, though it's ludicrous to suggest that a sysop even needed to be), he vandalised MediaWiki:Tagline (with an edit summary that misleadingly implied that he was reverting vandalism) to read "From Britannica, the encyclopaedia that is slightly more accurate than Wikipedia according to a paper in the eminent journal Nature...". After this was reverted, he once again vandalised MediaWiki:Tagline (this time with the message "From Whippetpedia, the free encyclopedia for dogs"). After this was reverted by a different administrator, he retaliated by immediately vanalising MediaWiki:Tagline yet again, this time to personally attack the reverting administrators with the vulgar message "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia administer by people with a stick up their lavender passageway". (Both of the two latter edits were falsely labeled "minor.") After the previous reverting administrator did so again, he retaliated by placing Template:Indefblocked on that editor's user page.
After all of that, you dismiss a twelve-hour block (half the usual duration for a first-time offense along these lines) as "baseless" (your description on his talk page), lift it without first contacting me (in violation of policy), and refer to me as "discourteous"?! —David Levy 13:18, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
David makes some good points here. Riana, if (among other things) you said you would look into situations a bit more before unblocking, that might help resolve this satisfactorily on both sides. I would also refer to to the discussion at John Reaves' talk page (see User talk:John Reaves#Block of User:Omegatron) where things seem to have been resolved satisfactorily. Admin Coaching[edit]

Hello Riana, my name is John. Thank you for allowing me to be your student in admin coaching. Since my beginning of my time on wikipedia, Administrators were always very helpful and I always looked up to and respected now. Now that I've been here awhile I would be honored to join the team and fight vandals, help new users, and overall improve and maintain wikipedia. I would like to participate in many things and live up to all of my administrator duties. As you can see, I spend about 40% of my time fighting vandalism and reporting users. I would love to be able to process AIV and UAA reports and properly take care of them. I also would like to process RPP requests and protect pages where protection is needed. I would help out with AFD, TFD, IFD, and CFD closes by deleting items that have reached a consensus for deletion. I would also delete pages that are marked and meet criteria for deletion. Finally I will help out with 3RR reports by correctly placing blocks on users that have violated the 3RR policy. Overall I will help in every way possible, even in ways that I haven't thought of. Again, Thank you for being my coach. And apologies for the lengthly message :). Regards, CWii(Talk|Contribs) 00:15, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I just wanted to make sure that you were aware of your RfA nomination on scribble wiki. If you decline the scribble Wiki RfA, I'm sure an admin. on that sitewould be willing to delete the subpage. If you accept, it can be added to the main RfA page and begin. Hello Riana!

I wanted to ask you about rollback. How does it work and who can use it? I see, many Wikipedians use rollbacks.

Regards, ShahidTalk2me 12:45, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Shahid, rollback is basically a tool that helps you revert vandalism very quickly. Any trusted user can use rollback by asking an admin or at WP:RFR. If you like, I can give you the tool. ~ Riana 12:52, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yeh I would be very grateful. A big part of my work is reverting vandalism. ShahidTalk2me 12:57, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
 Done - enjoy! ;) ~ Riana 12:59, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much! Using rollback, I can revert only a single edit? ShahidTalk2me 13:02, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it's only the topmost edit that rolls back (or, if a user has made several consecutive edits and you press rollback, it will go to the last version before that user edited). To revert back to a specific revision you'll still need to use something like Twinkle or popups. ~ Riana 13:04, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, now it's clear! Thanks again! Best regards, ShahidTalk2me 13:06, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again Riana! Please tell me, when a user adds spam links, can I roll back his edits or is it better to provide a short note in the edit summary? ShahidTalk2me 16:01, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If possible, include a short explanation. But if the account is an obvious spammer and editing rapidly; just give him a warning ({{uw-spam}} and escalate...) and rollback him. —Dark talk 09:39, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That wonderful subject. . .[edit]

Sorry to drag you back into the paedophilia wars, but it seems you deleted this page: User talk:Putting innocents at risk. However, this account has just begun editing as a re-incarnation of the indef blocked User:Baby love! My baby love! and has quickly run afoul of User:SqueakBox. Do you remember why you deleted the page? I'm curious if there is some reason to believe that User:Putting innocents at risk is a sock of a banned user. Thanks. Ronnotel (talk) 18:24, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The rationale for the page's deletion was "trolling". Riana didn't mention a sock? —Dark talk 09:37, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flickr image agreements[edit]

You wanted statements to confirm that we can use them under GFDL. Well I have received three or four clear statements to confirm this. Now can we please try to get this matter sorted:

Charles Fred stated :

Dear James,

"Wikipedia is granted use of these images under GFDL".

Sorry for being so late with this.

Best regards, Charles

I asked Mike Russia can you please confirm that wikipedia is permitted to use your images under GFDL his response was:

That's all right. I like your job and wiki! Mike

Borderfilmsdoug stated:

Hi James:

To confirm:

If you need higher resolution versions, please let me know!

Cheers,

Doug Murray Vancouver Canada

Other than this Arie and Joshua Kucera at flickr weren't so certain about letting wikipedia use them for commercial purposes. Joshua in particular was concerned that it might affect his ability to profit from selling his pictures to companies. Other than this the Paraguayan guy can't understand english but I promise you I mentioned GFDL in the first message I sent to him and he permitir utilizar los fotos or something -so it should be fine.

So there should be absolutely no reason now why the agreements with Charles Fred, Mike and Doug shouldn't now be finalized and all the images uploaded having the correct OTRS ticketing on them. Some editor in the commons tagged several of them for deletion which I hoped you would respond to.

Can you seal these agreements then and leave the correct ticketing numbers at User:Blofeld of SPECTRE/Flickr agreements Thanks ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 15:34, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering if you had any opinions on Gp75motorsports' still-continuing topic ban and whether it should remain in place. I personally believe he's still not ready to be unrestricted, but every time he breaks the topic ban and is blocked for it, people come along to defend him and eventually unblock. Hi, I was told to contact you about this issue after another OTRSer couldn't help me. Basically, I came across an image from Bollywoodblogs and deleted it as being for non-commercial use only. Protection of {{WPBooks}}[edit]

Was there any actual vandalism occuring when you decided to fully protect this? It's annoying when I can't edit these things, and I see very little vandalism of these templates if any. We go out of our way to let any idiot edit TFA, so it's a bit of a pain when someone who has been here over two years can't edit a template. It's also against our policy to protect things because of possible risk of future vandalism, and these only appear on the talk page too. So, as other admins have done with similar templates, if you can't provide any cases of vandalism for the template (which you won't be able to, unless you count this), I'd appreciate it if you could tone it down to semi-protection. g'day riana.....[edit]

I'm dropping a note here because I was chatting with DanielB the other day, and he mentioned that you might be interested in coming along to a conversation with an aussie focus over at 'not the wikipedia weekly' - you'd need the time, energy, enthusiasm, a microphone, and a skype account - though maybe 2 or 3 of them will do! - let me know if you've got any questions, and the time we're currently aiming for is next friday (9th may) at 10.30am sydney time (probably 9.16 or something equally random if you're in SA - sorry I can't work it out!) - hopefully either you or Daneil - or both might make it along! cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 07:47, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Both Riana and Daniel are going to be out for quite a while... I hear uni in Adelaide can be very distressing :) —Dark talk 08:36, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RfA thank-spam[edit]

Riana/Archive 40, just a note of appreciation for your recent support of my request for adminship, which ended successfully with 112 supports, 2 opposes, and 1 neutral. If there's something I've realized during my RFA process this last week, it's that adminship is primarily about trust. I will strive to honour that trust in my future interactions with the community. Many thanks! Gatoclass (talk) 06:26, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, a special thankyou Riana for your very supportive comments on my talk page some weeks ago, they really did help my confidence and get me to thinking about standing again. I was kind of hoping you might be able to co-nom, but I didn't want to do anything that might look like soliciting votes so I just had to hope you would turn up. Glad you managed to make it :) Gatoclass (talk) 08:29, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My Recent Rfa[edit]

I would just like to say thanks for the neutral vote in my recent RFA. I will still say thanks as from your comments and the other users comments that opposed me and gave me a neutral vote have made me make a todo list for before my next RFA. I hope I will have resolved all of the issues before then and I hope that you would be able to support me in the future. If you would like to reply to this message or have any more suggestions for me then please message me on my talk page as I will not be checking back here. Thanks again. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 16:37, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
