Fixin'

Thanks for all of the fixin', like this. Because there has been such persistent opposition and battleground throughout that suite, I was over-attributing and sticking verrrrrry close to exactly what the sources said, since "they" were throwing around accusations of POV. My hope was that by using direct quotes and attributing them, the battleground would lessen, but noooo. Your brevity is much better, and you will find same needed everywhere. I was pushing uphill to get any of that done by myself (and now really need to take a few days to catch up on everything else I let drop ... ). Thanks so much for the improvements! Yes, I need it ... I've let half a dozen other pressing things drop, and have let some people down who are waiting for me, but once I got through about three dozen journal reviews, I had to press on while some of it was fresh. I also went to sleep last night mad at myself for being had by my inner Pollyanna once again. I was convinced that if I just kept coming back with good faith, the hostility there would eventually lessen. Hi Sandy, looking back, I can find only one discussion that fits the bill, Talk:Medical cannabis #Adverse effects where Viriditas attempts to smear this source:

It is of course the only recent comprehensive literature review specifically dealing with "the potential consequences of marijuana use on physical health or medical conditions". Viriditas simply doesn't like the first part of the conclusion: "We conclude that healthcare providers should be cognizant that the existing literature suggests that marijuana use can cause physical harm. However, evidence is needed, and further research should be considered, to prove causal associations of marijuana with many physical health conditions." and just wants to pretend that the second part says 'cannabis doesn't cause any physical health problems'. That's interesting, but I don't read it as hiding his previous account. He seems to me to be simply indignant that on his fifth edit after returning with a clean start account, his small addition and cleanup to Donald W. Loveland was reverted by a bot and then by Nasnema - who had the temerity to call it "unsourced" while a quick glance at the only source given in the stub verified Pumpkin Sky's addition. No wonder we can't attract editors when somebody who seems to be a new editor gets treated like that. Nah, you're reading too much into how he reacted when folks treated his seemingly-new user so poorly. There was an experiment a while ago when a few established users created fresh accounts to experience first hand how we treat new users and it wasn't a pleasant experience. I guess that Pumpkin Sky started off hoping he could avoid being linked to Rlevse, but he soon admitted the previous account when it became obvious you can't really "clean start". You're right though, I do like the guy: did you know he went back to the Grace Sherwood article - which was the trigger for the problems that led him leaving as Rlevse - and worked hard on it to fix all the issues and get the revised version back to Featured Article? In the pink

Yes, indeed, the north facade of Palazzo Pitti is extremely pink, especially in the setting sun [6], but not as pink as the former home of one of my dearest, most misunderstood and late friends Eva Peron. Oh how I used to enjoy my sojourns at the Casa Rosada advising poor Eva on etiquette and appearance. She once said to me "Lady Catherine, you would have made so much a better First Lady of Argentine than I." You understand that stupid place. some daft little admin there has just blocked me for trying to point out that I uploaded a photograph erroneously years ago to which I did not have the copyright. No don't worry about it Rex, stay away from the foul, disgusting place. I've attempted t put it right and one can see the gratitude one gets. To be frank, yesterday, half the time I thought was editing Wikipedia (a far better mannered place) I had followed the link from the image which clearly said Wikipedia [9] and that's now why I appear half the time to be editing as an anon [10]. Even though the reptilious little morons can see it's me they have now slapped a template on announcing that I am editing from a place called Chinnor! Nice as that is no doubt, I have never been there - I'm actually in London. Anyway, they've been told about the problem, one can do no more. In my view, the place wants closing down. I never had much time for it - now I have none with it. Even though it says Wikipedia quite clearly [11], I am blocked from editing my own image - this is one big con! So until Commons stop arrogantly taking all these images: I strongly advise everyone to stop uploading pictures to Wikipedia because this the trouble they will eventually find themselves in. 08:24, 3 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi. It's a pity what happened and that we're now on bad terms. I trust the judgement of Cassinanto and Montanabw that you're a reasonable fellow. Just promise me something. I think the two of you have some strong personality traits in common, which can lead to a clash at times. It's ok - I really don't bear grudges and as far as I'm concerned we're good. There's a great big encyclopedia out there and we don't want to spend too long away from the job of building it. The only thing I would ask in return is that you try to be gentler with newcomers who innocently ask about infoboxes or other matters. I guess I should be a travel guide writer! :) I do want to point out that the phrase you mentioned above was not my contribution and can still be found in the reverted article. I'm assuming my detailing of the rooms is what was so close to the text you mentioned?

Au contraire, Rexx, there are now three search hits for the phrase "picturesque turns of phrase are best avoided" ... all on wikipedia usertalkpages, oddly enough... hmmmm. ;-) But yes, the phrase is mine own, from whole cloth. That said, it *is* composed of two cliche-subphrases, "picturesque turns of phrase" followed by "best avoided". Both phrases are no good for mainspace, too flowery for my tastes, much like the carved-from-the-plantation language that almost got Landry into trouble, hence why I recommended a skim of wp:tone. p.s. You will note below, that Montanabw is totally swiping my trademarked copyrighted "good egg(s)" phrase, uniquely invented by ME, how terribly rude! :-) I'd call in the cavalry, but Montanabw supplies all their horses, so that would be futile. — 74.192.84.101 (talk) 18:18, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

Can you help

Thank you for your helpful comments at peer review Wikipedia:Peer review/List of awards and nominations received by Penn & Teller: Bullshit!/archive1.

I must admit I was a little confused, as I modeled this page after List of awards and nominations received by The Vampire Diaries which was promoted to WP:FL quality in January 2013.

Can you help please with the WP:DTT coding suggestions you made for List of awards and nominations received by Penn & Teller: Bullshit! ?

It sounds like you are better at that sort of coding thing than me.

You're most welcome. I've cleaned up the tables in the infobox and set headers and scope so that a screen reader should have no problems now. One side-effect has been the loss of padding after each definition list (I've removed that list markup). That has made the infobox a little more compact and balanced the top-bottom padding of the text where the awards are named (although you'd probably have to do a before/after comparison to see the difference).

I haven't touched the text sizes for the captions, and I haven't changed the alt text/image captions as you have a better idea of what you want and should now be able to work out how best to avoid repetition for screen readers. Cheers --RexxS (talk) 17:28, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Problems with edits?

Hi, a question re Wikipedia:Requests for comment/QuackGuru2: You endorsed jps' outside view, which said, among other things, that Wikipedia "would be better off if the two editors endorsing the RfC were banned from these topics" (said topics, I assume, being the areas where QG's conduct is indicted in the RfC; it's unclear). AFAIK, I've had virtually no interaction with you, but assume you must have reviewed my edits (and block log etc.), and those of Mallexikon (the other RfC endorser), or you wouldn't have endorsed such a strong statement. Apart from whatever objections you have to the RfC itself, can you explain why you believe Mallexikon and myself deserve to be topic-banned, and from which topics particularly? What have we done that's that bad? Maybe you can show me a couple diffs that are representative of whatever ongoing problems there are. Of your 3,000 edits, there are about 2,000 to article and article talk; well over 700 of them are to Acupuncture or its talk page. Don't you think that you are displaying an obsession with that topic? Mallexikon only has 400 to the article/talk, but that's still a very significant chunk of his contributions.

The outside view contains three parts: a rebuttal of the suggestion that QG be banned because he's hard to get along with; a suggestion that the encyclopedia would benefit if you and Mallexicon were banned from the topic; and a question asking whether anyone thought QG would make a better job of editing the articles without your contributions. I agreed strongly with the first; I thought the second had merit; and I was interested in the answer to the third part. You are naturally concerned about the second strand, and I must confess that I dislike compulsory topic bans because they seem to unfairly penalise editors who believe they are editing to improve the encyclopedia. I believe you genuinely want to improve the encyclopedia, but I feel that your concentration on one small, controversial topic is unhealthy and - since you've asked - I think you would benefit from voluntarily spending some time away from Acupuncture. Editing in other areas which are uncontroversial and where you have no strong views would almost certainly be beneficial for both you and our project. Hey thanks! I couldn't help but wonder what the heck I'd done besides bring a poorly-formed RfC; it bugged me, but I didn't mean to bug you & the other endorsers in return. I appreciate the good-faith reply. The issue with the three different strands of jps's comment makes sense. I agree about the controversial nature of acupuncture; I'm a dual-degreed scientist and acu'ist, and know the controversy well, and have been well-served by taking breaks from editing it in the past. The controversy in the literature (which isn't that big; most of the science says it doesn't really work, and the rest of the world is simply catching up) has polarized the talk page, but it's improving thanks to some good, fresh editorial eyes. regards, Middle 8 (leave me alone • talk to me • COI?) 00:04, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

I'm more than happy to keep an eye on the FAC - it's watchlisted now - and to help out on technical/accessibility stuff, but my miniscule edits to the article don't qualify me as a co-nom. The credit for it belongs to mostly you with some due to Tigerboy and Froggerlaura, I think.
