Important Notice[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in longevity. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Thank you.[edit]

I just found the list of living centenarians and see how recently you edited it. 7 hours ago!! WOW! This page #1 was very helpful. #2 this page is FASCINATING! WOW!!! I want to dive down this rabbit hole and read everyone's story here. The entire concept of the page is brilliant: 'Known for reasons other than being old.' (Paraphrased.) This page had such an impact on me, I immediately had to reach out and thank you for all of your hard work. Please extend my gratitude to anyone else who has contributed to this page.

I've never interacted inside Wikipedia before; please forgive me if this is not the correct place for such a communication.

While I'm here, please know that Wikipedia is my favorite place to go to answer my questions. Honestly it's the most trustworthy resource in my opinion. I will follow link after link after link for definitions, citations, further resources, etc. This is my favorite place to wander and purposefully joyfully lose myself.

Especially for a lay person like me, your transparency when information does NOT have proper citing gives me confidence regarding how well this vast amount of information is vetted and internally policed. The work you all do is truly astounding. The love and pride you all have for this resource is obvious and appreciated - valued.

Every day .. every hour this site impacts and enriches lives.

Thank you to all of you who participate within Wikipedia. I should have said thank you years ago. 2601:642:4102:CC60:B0A5:8A69:C272:547E (talk) 19:35, 26 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gustav Gerneth again[edit]

Hannover[edit]

"English names preferred" is a much better reason than a consistency that doesn't exist. I will not edit war. Are you aware that there was a move request? - If you ask me, you can still call Hanover that name in an article about an international subject, but to do so for a German subject where organisations such Hannover Airport are mentioned makes less sense to me for, yes, consistency. There can be no misunderstanding of Hannover, - do we agree? (.. while when I saw Brunswick the first time, I had no idea what that meant) - I will not edit war, but please consider leaving articles of others alone. Hi. Thanks for your determined rollbacks of vandalism by the IP 2001:8f8:1a65:6c7b:7020:fc69:f856:efa3, which is one address in the IP range being used by banned editor and sockpuppeteer Bestf123 (all you have to do is check the almost identical list of targets and article interest within their contributions and you will spot the similarities). Thanks again. Ref (chew)(do) 17:31, 27 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comment. I'm convinced that the IP's 2.51.37.255 and 2001:8f8:1a65:6c7b:ad9f:e0e1:8b4d:5 belong to to the same editor (same IP location, same articles). Recent Revert[edit]

What is the standard I should have followed?

DarklitShadow (talk) 22:06, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The current consensus is that we should only use simple citations (<ref>[url, title]</ref>) on this lists. Renewal6 (talk) 22:19, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Does this type of consensus apply to anything else?
DarklitShadow (talk) 22:58, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It applies to Deaths in 2023 and the articles "Deaths in month x". Renewal6 (talk) 23:06, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop[edit]

Please stop your edits to King Constantine - the MOS:JOBTITLE page actually shows where you use a lowercase and where you use an uppercase. The entry for him here does not say he was "a king of the Hellenes" (which is wrong anyway) or "the king of the Hellenes", it says he was "King of the Hellenes" which was his royal title. Stop reverting my edits and leave it alone. Deus et lex (talk) 11:22, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting your ==28== in January 2023 Deaths[edit]

Sorry to have accidentally removed your update to add the 28 day in January 2023 Deaths. We were both updating my citation error at the same time, and my publish reverted your other update because I had entered the edit for all of January instead of just the section I needed to make my correction. I'll be more cautious, but wanted to let you know it was not intentional... just negligent on my part. MJ262 (talk) 11:13, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Storjohann[edit]

Hi Renewal6, regarding your revert: It's true, Storjohann died in office in January 2023, so he was a m MP until his death (in 2023). Isn't that more precise than a simple "since 2002"? Best, NiTen (talk) 18:36, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

On this article, the two terms ("since 2002", "2002–2023") have different meanings. "since" implies death in office, therefore, the current year is redundant. "2002–2023", on the other hand, would indicate a resignation from office before his death. Renewal6 (talk) 20:30, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In my view "2002–2023" in this specific case is not indicating a resignation, especially since all details on his functions are available in the article. Anyhow, let's agree to disagree. :) Best, --NiTen (talk) 21:10, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
He was an official MP until his death, but was in intensive care from April 2022. Probably too much detail for the deaths list, but a good reason not to emphasize 2023. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:33, 31 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Renewal6[edit]

Thank you for the correction of my ABC order. Careless errors such as this are particularly embarrassing, but I'm grateful for the catch. Humbled. Yestertempest (talk) 23:14, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback granted[edit]

Hi Renewal6. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or RedWarn.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:16, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

...but reverting this via rollback just means that administrators have more to clean up. Drmies (talk) 00:27, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, thanks for the heads-up. Renewal6 (talk) 00:35, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sure thing. I've learned that with vandals like that there's no point in using rollback, and the automated functions also paste those user names all over the place. It's very counterintuitive not to revert, but reverting also tells them they've been reverted and so they can go back easily and do it again. What I do these days for those vandalis is simply restore the previous edit: no edit summary, no repetition of offensive user name. Thanks, and take care, Drmies (talk) 16:31, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
