very sorry, I see now your Talk page. I'm sorry, I was so extremely upset at the removal of an ok image. It was'nt you, so I'm extra sorry, though you did assign it its death warrant. Alfred Hitchens died in 1942, (and the picture was done pre- 1923), that is over 70 years ago, so image is ok for the UK. Please help even more now!!! I'm reading all I can on the Wiki rules (like I said, I'm new), but I have a plethora of 1967-1968 inside information on WCFL from a person who WAS THERE IN THE STATION. How do I get it to be "reliable"? It is biographical, not self-serving, HISTORICAL, and pinpoint accurate observations by an ON-AIR JOURNALIST WHO WAS THERE about events and people at 'CFL, many of whom are now deceased. There is NO derogatory information in any of it. Are radio or TV airchecks from the time in question considered reliable references, or is it only print media? Is everything I write to be undone? We need to be able to verify the text in all articles, first of all, and that needs to be done by being able to cite reliable sources that readers can either access online or be able to locate in places like libraries. (Think microfilm for old newspaper copies. etc.) We can't keep information like "Mr. X. is a wife beater" (whether he's living or dead), without reliable proof that Mr. X. is one.

Take a look at this Talk:WMAQ (AM). Rich Samuels spent many, many hours preserving the history of WMAQ radio and TV and was the station's unofficial historian. Rich continued his work even after he no longer worked at the station. Shortly before the stations moved from the Merchandise Mart, someone gave him a copy of Tom Gootee's history of WMAQ from 1922 to 1935. It was in a drawer in the promotional department and was going to hit the trash, but for someone saving it for Rich.

The problem is that nobody knows who Tom Gootee was; it's certain he worked at WMAQ Radio and had written the history as an employee because of the great detail his work provides. What I'm doing now is going through the online publications at American Radio History, to give credence to what Gootee had written, as I find the station used a lot of his material in their ads, etc.

Am going to suggest you visit Wikipedia:Teahouse so you can learn more about reliable sources--what's considered to be a reliable source that can be used here. We hope (talk) 14:19, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

Greetings, what do I need to do to get the pic of Cheri Bustos approved? I am volunteering on her campaign. This picture is included in her media kit. Tell me the right code to use, name the hoops I have to jump through, and I'll jump through them. Specifics would be really helpful! Thanks!! Also, can you explain why when the picture was removed earlier, there was no citation or notation on the page's edit history related to this change, and also, why all of my other edits were also reverted when the picture was taken down? The Mahovlich photo is kind of an interesting case - all particular photos in that collection are supposedly PD or copyrighted and unlicensed, but it seems to be a more complex situation. There was a photo of Jean Beliveau from the same collection a while back, however it seems it was deleted. Similar photos of football players in the same collection, eg. File:Hal Patterson - football player.jpg, are licensed CC on Flickr by Library and Archives Canada. So I'm actually not so sure... – Connormah (talk) 00:20, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for those! I had actually uploaded a few a couple weeks back (I'm sure you've seen some) but I didn't get around to the ones of the American teams and certain ones of the Canadian teams. I think there's a Beliveau one in there as well. Also, if you can fish out the Henri Richard one at a better resolution, that'd be great. New images

Thanks for uploading these. I'm still planning to take Paul's article through GAN, so have added the studio shot to the Jonathan and Darlene section. I know it's not strictly related to that period of their career, but does at least show them in the studio. I notice Metronome didn't have an infobox image, so added the cover. The Wikipedia Library completed the first 6 months of its Individual Engagement grant last week. Here's where we are and what we've done:

Increased access to sources: 1500 editors signed up for 3700 free accounts, individually worth over $500,000, with usage increases of 400-600%
Deep networking: Built relationships with Credo, HighBeam, Questia, JSTOR, Cochrane, LexisNexis, EBSCO, New York Times, and OCLC
New pilot projects: Started the Wikipedia Visiting Scholar project to empower university-affiliated Wikipedia researchers
Developed community: Created portal connecting 250 newsletter recipients, 30 library members, 3 volunteer coordinators, and 2 part-time contractors
Tech scoped: Spec'd out a reference tool for linking to full-text sources and established a basis for OAuth integration
Broad outreach: Wrote a feature article for Library Journal's The Digital Shift; presenting at the American Library Association annual meeting

The Tower House

Hi, any chance you could try to access the images linked in the request to User talk:Jmabel. There's two more at User talk:KJP1. The images were all taken in 1880s and are PD but I can't access them! I want to save and upload the full sized images and remove the watermark. Mabel says you can web scan and edit in art or something, can you do that?♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:59, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Thanks but it will only let me save as an aspx or something, I don't think that's compatible so upload. Can you have a go at finding a way to do it? I was certain that the "old book" was actually The House of William Burges ARA, edited by R. P. Pullan (London, 1875-1885) , which is dated 1886. It's a 14 page book with 40 images of Tower House taken in the 1880s. Pullan was Burges' brother in law who owned it for five years after he died until his death in 1886. See the source of this to the book. How can the photographic work of somebody who died in 1886 still be copyrighted? I think we intend taking the tower, Jimmy Page's home to FAC at some point.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:06, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Super! He was an arranger for Paul Whiteman and then the Casa Loma Orchestra, worked as a bandleader in the mid-1950s, but perhaps only as a studio unit, not sure if there was a touring "Larry Wagner Orchestra". I'm still researching. Then he wrote musicals for high school performance. (perhaps I could insert an absurd Disney pun in the article. Or I could think better of it.) Althorp

Hi. I was wondering if you could access some of the photos in [21], particularly the one on page 20-21 of the library and save it and rotate it to the proper way and upoad to the commons? It's 1822 so all the images in it will easily be public domain. If you could locate any further images from it or anywhere else on Althorp particularly of the interior I'd be very grateful. [22] might be PD,... images in here if you google image it says 1922 and seems to be US owned so could qualify for PD-US. Actually if you see the The Long Gallery in Althorp Hall, Northamptonshire, UK: photo it still actually contains long bookcases along its length. That collection in the gallery was sold off in 1892 so the photo must have been taken in the late 1880s or early 1890s so should be PD old.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:26, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

Thanks! That's a start anyway, I've added two photos. I have requested photos from the official site. If I get no response I'll telephone them. Onto paintings... Although every room in Althorp has loads of paintings, the Picture Gallery contains paintings like Van Dyck's War and Peace, a John de Critz portrait of James I,[94] a Frans Pourbus the Younger aristocratic portrait of Claude Lorraine, Duc de Chevreuse,[95] a Mary Beale portrait of Charles II and others of him by court artist Sir Peter Lely,[e] and portraits of George Digby, Second Earl of Bristol and William, First Duke of Bedford. Ideally that section would have paintings which are actually in the gallery like those. I'd imagine they can be uploaded as pd art or old, can you look in the commons see if we have them and upload if not?♦ Dr. Blofeld 06:04, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

Sadly there's not as much detailed history around as I'd thought. The book I have through the grant is more a celebrity biography/anecdotes rather than a decent overview of the hotel. I was hoping for a detailed history and architecture coverage. Cool! It's always good seeing decent info and images for buildings which no longer exist. When you upload though I think it should go in Category:Waldorf Hotel (1893-1929) and sub categories like Category:Interior of the Waldorf Hotel (1893-1929) to distinguish between that and the newer one.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:11, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi We hope! Congratulations on the GA for Red Skelton. I afforded the opprotunity to re-read that article, such a nice piece of work. I'm finishing an article on Bobby Byrne, the trombonist and bandleader, and it sure could use an image, if you have one. Given all the assistance you've provided me, let me know if I can help out in some way. Mostly I have a very large record collection (78rpm mostly)(if you need a label scan) and access to discographical information, things most folks rarely call for, but hard to find in most libraries. Re:The Jo Stafford Show

I think we should add it to the articles if we can, it looks like it caused quite a storm at the time. I don't think we've had an equivalent incident in the UK, but sponsorship is still a fairly recent thing, and I doubt a sponsor would be able to raise much of an objection if a show was cancelled. Programme content is regulated, and broadcasters have to include a certain amount of specific shows (news being an example), but they get to decide pretty much what else goes on air. Shows can also be dropped from a schedule without much notice if the television channel decides it wants to do that. This is Paul (talk) 20:21, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

The Wikipedia Library: New Account Coordinators Needed

Hi Books & Bytes recipients: The Wikipedia Library has been expanding rapidly and we need some help! We currently have 10 signups for free account access open and several more in the works... In order to help with those signups, distribute access codes, and manage accounts we'll need 2-3 more Account Coordinators.

  • Now the LIFE cover picture at the top of the article is being disputed as replaceable, so not fair use. The article does mention that the couple appeared on the cover of LIFE. Is there an argument for fair use? Aymatth2 (talk) 11:38, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
Aymatth2, I'm sorry, but the Life cover isn't able to be used any more. We now have photos of the couple dancing that are free use and the link to the Life magazine article about them with the text will take care of the fact that they were on the cover of the magazine and had an article about them in it. I suspect you are right, but have challenged on the basis that the cover is the subject of discussion in the article and cannot be adequately described in text. I see that some LIFE covers, e.g. File:LIFE 06191944 Eisenhower cover.jpg (1944) are public domain because they were not renewed. Any easy way to check if this one is free on that basis?   • "They featured on the cover of Life". That's not exactly the contextual context which NFCC#8 demands, as all you have is the Life name and a picture of them dancing. A contextually-significant cover would need much more. Even the famous cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono (taken the day of John's murder) isn't included in the article on either individual. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 12:49, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
Aymatth2, I checked on the renewal for this Life issue and they did renew it in 1967. Also checked on the June 19, 1944 Eisenhower cover and this was not renewed. I suspect they intended to renew the 1944 issue as they did with almost all of their back issues, but this one somehow slipped through the cracks. Sorry, We hope (talk) 13:17, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
