What page?[edit]

What page are you referring to? --lightdarkness (talk) 00:37, 15 March 2007 (UTC) QA·C QA·C++ QA·J plus the redirects got hosed too.[reply]

Those are simple explanations linked from the static analysis section.

Hope this helps!

I read this to make sure that the content was appropriate (since it does deal with a "commercial product" since that's the group heading in the static analysis section:

Blatant advertising. Pages which exclusively promote a company, product, group, service, or person and which would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Note that simply having a company, product, group, service, or person as its subject does not qualify an article for this criterion; an article that is blatant advertising should have inappropriate content as well. If a page has previously gone through a deletion process and was not deleted, it should not be speedily deleted under this criterion.

Removal of QA·C[edit]

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a product catalogue or an advertising service. Software in particular has notability criteria, please see WP:SOFTWARE. There are indeed other articles that fail notability criteria, hopefully those get sorted out in time; this, however, is not a reason to add more non-notable products. Thanks! Weregerbil 13:24, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This discussion is now in quite a few places; if there are no objections, I suggest we continue it in Talk:QA·C only so as to save everyone's time. Weregerbil

QA·C Discussion[edit]

Weregerbil, thanks for the reply. I agree that it makes sense to keep the discusssion here.

I looked at the link to the criteria and this immediately jumped out at me:

... the following criteria can be used to estimate if the software is notable:

The software is among the core products of a notable software developer or vendor.

Programming Research was established in 1986 and is certainly a "notable" vendor in the static analysis space. And, QA·C is a core product.

Do we have to go further?

Copyright problem: Second Wind (company)[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Second Wind (company), but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://www.secondwind.com/company/, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Second Wind (company) and send an email with confirmation of permission to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or that the material is released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Second Wind (company) with a link to where we can find that note.

Copyright problem follow-up: Second Wind (company)[edit]

Dear Rdbuckley:

Since we do not yet have verification of permission by the processes set out above, the article has been deleted. This deletion is not necessarily permanent. If you or the copyright holder have already sent a letter to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, the article will be restored when that letter is received and processed by the Communications Committee. Likewise, if you have not yet sent a letter, you may certainly do so at any point, and the article will be restored when that letter is received and processed.

As Wikipedia does not require proof of identity on account creation, it is essential that we receive external proof of authorization in order to ensure that we remain compliant with US Copyright law. It is also essential that we verify that copyright holders understand the extent of the release they are authorizing, in that GNU Free documentation license permits modification and reuse in any forum, even commercial publication, as long as authorship credit is maintained.

If you have questions about the verification procedure, please feel free to contact me at my talk page. Alternatively, you might address them at the talk page of the copyright policy, which is generally monitored by volunteers experienced in processing such matters. We also have a help desk where you might find assistance at any time of day. Thank you.--Moonriddengirl (talk) 19:58, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Secondwind logo.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Secondwind logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:18, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Kara Swisher Updated Photo.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Kara Swisher Updated Photo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calvin (t·c) 06:33, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Kara Swisher Updated Photo.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Kara Swisher Updated Photo.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 16:16, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
