It is not. Back on December 23, 2006 Bookser added the custom form. It DOES NOT do anything that a regular google site-specific search doesn't do, other than show an Amazon link and Adsense Ads. That form sends the revenue to an Amazon partner by the name of "chuvashiaportal". I can't find any evidence that this is the worldcat project. In addition, the user who added it (Bookser) doesn't appear to have any connection to the worldcat project. I'm sure it is spam. OTRS

Regarding Image:Adult worm.jpg - how were you able to determine it had been OTRSed before the OTRS guy came along and tagged it, so that I can avoid nominating future OTRS granted images?Hipocrite - «Talk» 13:38, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

I didn't do anything special. From what I can tell you nominated it on the 14th, Bastique added the OTRS note on the 17th, and I asked him to check OTRS and fix the inconsistency on the 20th. —RP88 19:13, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

If I understand correctly, you want to make it clear that the original photos are still all rights reserved, but that these low-resolution uploads are under a free license. I suggest language like the following "Original photo © Daniel Gluskoter. All rights reserved. As you can see, I have taken your well described advice and applied the wording you suggested to all of my uploaded images. I now ask for your expertise in handling the problem of having a user repeatedly replace my photos with inferior images and then adding the insult of threatening me with three-vert violations for restoring a now clearly properly licensed superior image. The image in question at the moment is of Michael Stipe, although it invariably becomes an issue with other subjects periodically. As I've stated previously, I am a professional photo editor in addition to being a photographer, so I consider myself strongly objective when viewing images. If a page has a quality photo already in place, I'll always leave it as opposed to adding an image regardless of how strongly I feel about it. I wouldn't consider what this user is doing vandalism, but he is clearly attempting to revert to an inferior image. This is in regards to the page Michael Stipe, right? Unfortunately, on WP sometimes people come to loggerheads over issues. I noticed that malo has added a section to the discussion page for discussing which image to choose. I recommend you add a paragraph or two there explaining why your image should be preferred and then answer everyone's questions or complaints calmly and politely (even if the questions/complaints are silly or stupid). If possible avoid a confrontational tone, even if you are completely in the right, it rarely helps win arguments. I'll respond there if someone contests the validity of your free license. Oh, by the way, you may want to update the descriptions for Image:AGASSI4.jpg and Image:VH1.jpg, they still use your older language. —RP88 02:16, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Need help

It needs one of the fair use copyright tags. I've fixed it for you. However, in order for it be be fair use in Somalia and Mohammed Abdullah Hassan you need to be sure both articles specifically discuss the statue itself, not just the subject represented by the statue. Also, you need to describe the source of the image (URL, scan, photo you took yourself, etc.) as well as identify the subject of the image. —RP88 06:49, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing the tag, i have updated the summary and provided multiple links that use this image. I'm not so sure wether i can find the designer and sculptor of that statue since alot of info about the former governments of Somalia have suffered the same faith as the statue, currently there is nothing i can find in english sources but i will E-mail somali websites and newspapers operating in Somalia which most likely will have this info in the Somali language. About the use of the statue in the Somalia article is comparable to the Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg statue in the Albania article and i will update it. -RoboRanks 15:08, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

While it is good practice to identify the copyright holder and a good idea to give the sculptor appropriate credit, it isn't always practical. Given the circumstances of war, I don't think anyone will blame you if it turns out that this information is unavailable. —RP88 16:15, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, there are fair use copyright tags for film and television stills. If you use one of these tags make sure that the image is only used in articles for appropriate identification and critical commentary on the film/tv/program/character that appears in the still. In addition, you must include in licensing section of the image description a fair use rationale for every article on which you wish to use the image. Cumbersome, yes, but unfortunately required. Note that on the image description page for Image:Coolcat.jpg that it includes a detailed fair use rationale for why it is fair to use the copyrighted screenshot in the Cool Cat article. —RP88 07:35, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

We are still going at it and it seems the debate has gotten down to two images: Image:Crushed Campbell's Soup Can (Beef Noodle).JPG, which is an exact copy of an image from an educational packet from an affiliate of the copyright holder, and Image:Campbells Soup Cans MOMA.jpg, which I consider necessary for the first paragraph of Campbell's_Soup_Cans#The_premier. I have already scaled down two other images. I am guessing by your silence that you may be somewhere in the middle of the argument, but I was hoping for any opinion less strict than reduce everything to 400px. I didn't make a comment since the discussion doesn't appear to be about the U.S. fair use doctrine, or even really about Wikipedia's fair use policy, but instead mainly about the higher standards to which featured articles are held. I know a lot about the first, am familiar with the second, and no next to nothing about the latter. There is no U.S. case law that out right says bigger that 400 pixels is bad, smaller than 400 is good - it's a balancing test. But that's largely irrelevant to the featured article candidate discussion - they're not arguing about what's legal, or even about what is required by policy to prevent deletion, they appear to arguing about what is appropriate in an article that's marked as a "featured article." In practice, articles with "Featured article" status have not only been identified as the very best articles articles in Wikipedia, they're also expected to be flag bearers for the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of building a free content encyclopedia. If someone was arguing for the deletion of the fair use images in the article I'd be happy to chime in with a comment about whether they violate U.S. fair use doctrine or Wikipedia policy, but that doesn't appear to be the case here. Nonetheless, I like the article and am willing to assist you. If you have a specific question, I'd be happy to try to answer it. Or, since I'm reasonably handy with graphic design software, I can assist you in crafting images. For example, if it would help, I'd be happy to craft lower resolution images with higher resolution detail "feature identification" boxes for you if you let me know your wishes. —RP88 13:13, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it's okay to delete the Reagan Governor photo, but did you say that you replaced the photos:

Yep, I'm aware that the Ronald Reagan Library states that the images in their archive are in the public domain. If you take a look at the images I fixed you'll find that I noted that fact using {{pd-because}}. However, because the Reagan Library does not indicate the photographer, for each of the images I first searched for the image in the National Archives and Records Administration Archival Research Catalog. If found it there, I used a more specific copyright tag based on the photographer (in this case the ones I found were all {{PD-USGov-POTUS}}. With regards to the six you list, those were the ones that I updated the descriptions. It was the second set of six that were ones that you uploaded that someone else had already uploaded. I changed the article to use the identical images that had previously been uploaded, so don't worry, when your duplicates are deleted the article will still look fine. —RP88 16:58, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Images

Hi, you might notice the exchanges we had about images status and fair use rationales. I notice all my images have been deleted, apparently by Rama. I had an exchange with this guy here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Rama but he seems to be a moron of the most obnoxious sort. I'm sorry attitudes of this kind exist on wikipedia, as they just kill any will I may have to contribute. I'd just like to know : did he have any right to do what he did ? worldcat spam again

Someone was screwing with the Worldcat link on th Book sources page (and another person put up a mere Amazon affiliate redirect as the top US "library search" link). I reverted that, but looking at the history now I'm not sure the one I reverted to was right either. The spammers keep monkeying with it all the time I get confused. As you were aware of the problem earlier I'd appreciate it if you could take a look, see if it's right and corret it if necessary.
