If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. Kent Stark[edit]

Because Kent Stark is part of Kent State University, the KSU template needs to remain on the page. Kent Stark is not an independent campus- it is a regional campus meaning it is still under the direction of the KSU President, Lester Lefton, and many of its students are directly connected with the main campus or the other regional campuses. The KSU template is for the entire university, not just the Kent campus. You'll note on the page Kent State University that the enrollment figures are for all campuses, not just Kent, and the template itself has a place for the regional campuses. When pages are started for the remaining regional campuses, they will also have the KSU template on them. Basically, every link on the template should also have the template on its page. It makes navigation easier for people looking up info on a particular subject, in this case Kent State. I find it interesting that you have a problem with the KSU template but not the University System of Ohio template, which links only to the main Kent State University article and has no specific mention of Kent Stark or any other regional campuses of any Ohio university.

As for the logo: the Kent Stark seal was deleted as a copyright violation, so until a properly uploaded version can be placed, please leave the main KSU seal there. It is the seal for the entire university, not just the Kent campus, and is used at the Stark campus as well for official events like commencement according to their own posted pictures. Lastly, the infobox title also needs to keep the word "campus" because that is the title of the article. The acceptable common terms "Kent State University Stark", "Kent State Stark", and "Kent Stark" are all used in the article, but that does not mean they are the title. --JonRidinger (talk) 19:08, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop removing the Kent State University template and replacing the University System of Ohio template. The reasons for their inclusion/exclusion from the article are spelled out in the Kent State Stark talk page. The templates are to point out notable features of a certain subject area, in this case Kent State University. Because Kent is the main and by far the largest campus, it is going to have the most notable things. It is the same way with any university template. As for the University System of Ohio template, Kent State Stark is not a direct member of USO, "Kent State University" is. Basically Kent State Stark is part of Kent State, which is part of USO (in other words, the USO chancellor deals with university presidents, not the regional campus deans), so it isn't appropriate to use the USO template on the Kent State Stark page. --JonRidinger (talk) 18:45, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:Boze.JPG[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Boze.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sasikiran (talk) 18:06, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Because the Boze photos appear on the Kent State Stark website, it is assumed the copyright is owned by Kent State University and that if, in fact, you are the photographer, then your photo was a work for hire. This was explained on the user talk page of TerriThomas (is that also one of your accounts?), who also uploaded the same photos claiming them to be in the public domain. It's always preferred to use an image that is not already on an existing website, especially if it was on that website before being here. Don't forget, there is no way other editors can verify that you are indeed the original photographer and possess the copyright unless documentation is presented. I would highly recommend if you are the photographer that you upload a version of the photo not contained on any other website to avoid any question. --JonRidinger (talk) 20:32, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Photo submission of copyrighted material[edit]

Hi Purocafe, one of the basics of Wikipedia is to assume good faith, so I will assume you are indeed the photographer who took the pictures of Betsy Boze. I assume that you are, at least in part because you are uploading a higher resolution image than is available on the web (although other explanations are possible).

However, even assuming you are the photographer, there are several issues that need to be resolved before the photo can be used on Wikipedia. First, yours is the second user account to upload the same photo and claim to be the photographer, as User:TerriThomas did so too. Whom should we believe? Second, the photo is used officially on the Kent State Stark website here. The website makes no claim of a free license (such as the GFDL or Creative Commons licenses), so the photo cannot be used on Wikipedia without KSU Stark's permission. Third, even assuming you are the photographer, the photo appears to be work for hire and thus the copyright belongs to KSU Stark (and frankly I am a bit puzzled that a professional photographer does not know and understand this already).

Assuming you do have permission to use the photo, you need to contact the Wikipedia:OTRS system with an email explaining everything. See this link Wikipedia:Contact us/Photo submission. This will almost certainly also require permission from KSU Stark as they appear to own the photo, but I will leave that to the OTRS volunteers. Once the photo has been approved and submitted this way, then it can be used. Until then it will continue to be deleted as a copyright violation of the KSU Stark webapge. Please be aware that because of the anonymity of accounts and the internet, literally anyone can claim to have created the photo. You need to prove it as outlined above (this will also maintian your anonymity).

Please ask if you have further questions and I hope this helps, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:47, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PS I am off to delete File:Boze.JPG again - please do not keep uploading it without OTRS permission. If you continue to do so, that will be seen as vandalism and can result in your account being blocked (which no one wants).

Adding to that, even if Kent State Stark grants permission to place the photo on Wikipedia, my experience is that the picture will still end up getting deleted since a free alternative can be obtained and because the University likely won't release the photo into the public domain, but will rather just allow it to be on Wikipedia, meaning it can be copied from here and used by others without the knowledge of the University. It's better to just get a free image for living people. --JonRidinger (talk) 21:59, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The file is File:BBOZE.jpg and it loads for me. You may have to bypass your cache to see it, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:21, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I also saw it and Ruhrfish has placed it in the article. --JonRidinger (talk) 02:41, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I posted a reply back to the anonymous User talk:131.123.121.94‎, which I am assuming is you. If it is and you cannot access my comment, please let me know. Copyright problems with File:BBOZE.jpg[edit]

Hello. Concerning your contribution, File:BBOZE.jpg, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from Image metadata states "(C)KENT STATE UNIVERSITY", Kent State provides no assertion of freely licensing their images. As a copyright violation, File:BBOZE.jpg appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. File:BBOZE.jpg has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

 • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:File:BBOZE.jpg and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
 • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:File:BBOZE.jpg with a link to where we can find that note.
 • If you hold the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:File:BBOZE.jpg.

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. Thank you. §hepTalk 04:46, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I understand basic copyright and agree that it needs to be protected. We took down the uncopyrighted photo of Boze because people pointed out that it appears on the kent web page (who cares, but OK) I put up a photo that doesn't appear anywhere and tagged it as public domain. Why are you removing it? I took it. It is not copyrighted and I release it to the world. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Purocafe (talkcontribs) 11:31, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The image metadata clearly stated that the copyright was owned by Kent State University, unless you're the University you don't have the ability to release the copyright of the image. §hepTalk 21:44, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits[edit]

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 11:32, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Final warning[edit]

I did not check the image File:BBOZE.jpg as carefully as I should have. Thankfully another editor noticed that the metadata said it was copyright Kent State University. Thus it was deleted as a WP:COPYVIO.

I am done assuming good faith with your photo uploads. You clearly do not have copyright on these images, even if you did take them - again see work for hire. I have outlined what you must do to get the photos you claim to have taken approved (see above, essentially get KSU Stark's permission in writing and send it to Wikipedia OTRS and have them approve it).

Consider this your last warning. The next time you upload a photo that is a copyright violation I will block your account in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy (i.e. "persistently violating copyrights", you are expected to learn from your repeated mistakes). Image copyright problem with File:Kent Stark Patio.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Kent Stark Patio.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like PD-self (to release all rights), CC-by-sa-3.0 (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 19:23, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kent State Stark pictures[edit]

Thanks for your additions to Kent State University Stark Campus. I hope the pictures you used are indeed public domain because they do add to the article. Here are a few suggestions when placing them:

 • Make sure the picture is placed in the correct, relevant section. Most of them are (like the picture of Dr. Boze in the section on her, for example), but try to avoid just placing general campus pictures randomly in the article. Remember, this is not a promotional page for Kent State Stark, so it shouldn't sound or look like one; it is an encyclopedic article.
 • I highly recommend adding captions to each picture. It makes it easier to read the article especially for people who aren't familiar with the subject. If you have any questions about how to place captions, please ask. It's actually quite simple (in the picture section, add "thumb" after the picture size and side and then add the text for the caption...keep captions informative but brief).
 • Make sure the image is an appropriate size and try to avoid, if possible, it overflowing into the next section. This can also help avoid large gaps in text that large pictures can cause.
 • Do not place images above the infobox.
 • Avoid placing two pictures on the same horizontal plane with article text in between. Having two pictures stacked vertically works, however.
 • If the photos are indeed public domain images, they should be uploaded to the Commons. Once there, a link to the gallery containing them can be added on the article's page to help the article from becoming too cluttered with pictures.

Again, thanks for your additions. --JonRidinger (talk) 21:22, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New images[edit]

When adding images it is of the utmost importance that we follow Manual of Style (Images). We have many users using screen readers so other relevant content to read is Accessibility (Images) and Layout (Images). There is also a supplement tutorial at Wikipedia:Picture tutorial that explains more about image syntax and how they should be used. Finally, when adding free images it is requested that you use Wikimedia Commons that way other Wikipedias in different languages can use the images as well as our sister projects. A guide on how to upload at Commons is available here, I will move your images here to Commons for you using Commons Helper. If you have any questions about uploading or copyright in the future I'd be glad to help, §hepTalk 21:52, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Make sure pictures you add to the Kent State Stark Campus article are directly related to the content and aren't just for decoration. For instance, the picture of foxes is a nice picture, but isn't directly related to any content. The same is true for the hot air balloon pic. It looks great, but it doesn't really have anything to do with the article other than being from Kent State Stark (i.e. tangential). Pictures are GREAT but need to have a definite purpose (like pictures in the history section should be of something mentioned in the history; pictures of the campus should be shown in the section on the campus, etc.). This has the feel of a promotional brochure, which this article isn't supposed to be. --JonRidinger (talk) 01:16, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of File:Kent Stark Pond.pdf[edit]

A tag has been placed on File:Kent Stark Pond.pdf requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I10 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file that is not an image, sound file or video clip [i.e. a Word document or PDF file] that has no encyclopedic use.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. Suggestion[edit]

One suggestion I would like to make is when making a large amount of edits, try to make as many as possible in one edit session rather than a slew of smaller edits. I know sometimes when editing I make a small edit and then I notice other things after I publish or notice a mistake, so it does happen, but if you see a large amount of changes you feel need to be made, try to make them all at once or in larger groups. Please use the "preview" button as well as many times seeing the preview will allow you to notice things you may have missed. Also, be careful when removing the USA reference from the article. Remember, Wikipedia is not just for an American audience, it's to a worldwide audience, so not everyone is familiar with where North Canton, Ohio or Shreveport, Louisiana is or that they're even in the US. --JonRidinger (talk) 17:00, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Another reason to make less and larger edits is making a lot of small ones in close succession makes it difficult for other editors to help since by the time their edit is made and submitted, you have made another small edit or two and that creates an "edit conflict." After so many edit conflicts, most editors will go do something else with their time since an edit conflict means they have to basically do their edit again. --JonRidinger (talk) 17:16, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Betsy Boze[edit]

Hello, you have recently made several edits on the Betsy Boze article, including removing the refenrece to the incident involving the parking sign, which wasn't specified in any of your edit summaries. While I'll assume it was an honest, good faith slip, the fact that you not only failed to mention the removal, but also did it in the middle of a series of small edits could be taken as a deliberate effort to hide it. So in order to prevent such misunderstings, on future edits, please make sure to point every modification you made, specially ones of such magnitude. I'd also like to point that that particular topic has already been discussed and the consensus was that it should remain on the article. If you have any doubts regarding the editing guidelines and ettiquete, please feel free to ask me. Uuchie (talk) 16:28, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly unfree File:UniversityCenterLogo.jpeg[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:UniversityCenterLogo.jpeg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. File source problem with File:Stark Science Bulding.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Stark Science Bulding.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:17, 7 May 2011 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:17, 7 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
