THFC Stats and Season records[edit]

Hi, As the season is drawing to a close I was thinking of suggestion via the THFC main Talk page that the stats on Managers' performance for 2007/08 might be better placed on the 2007/08 season page and ditto for next season assuming you/ or for that matter others are planning on a 2008/09 Season Page. Before suggesting this formally on the Talk page I was as a courtesy as you are the person who created and look after the 'Season' Page just interested in your informal view. If you think this is not a good idea I would not suggest it. My view is the Main Page should contain the generally more standard info meanwhile with the stats and other very changeable info on the appropriate 'sub' page. The same sort of idea applies to the Season account which currently is sort of duplicated on the both Main and Season pages with the former very scrappy verbose and not properly cited. The presence of the Season commentary on the main page has been a source of disruption to say the least with some of the 'irregular' IP editors thinking it was a blog while the vandals see it as a way of making themselves a nuisance and which we have all spent a lot of time just reverting nonsense. What do you think about the Season commentary on the Main pages for 2007/08 onwards being a much more a concise summary of major events/ encyclopedic info and ditto to a lesser extent for earlier years which are not quit so verbose? As I said interested in your thoughts CheersTmol42 (talk) 14:38, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your thoughts on this. I will post a note over the weekend on the THFC Talk Page and if there are no objections will migrate the manager stats across perhaps after the Reading or perhaps Liverpool game (btw odds on both are going to be 1-1 so suggest you may as well adjust the stats now!) ThanksTmol42 (talk) 18:06, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just got around to posting on this Here. As you were mentioned in dispatches just thought I would let you know Cheers!Tmol42 (talk) 14:03, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That parameter no longer shows up in the template as it was decided that use of club logos in such templates was frivolous and decorative, and therefore not in the spirit of the Fair Use policy. – PeeJay 21:00, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I really like it, excellent stuff. :) Cheers. Govvy (talk) 12:42, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Joe Martin[edit]

I have had to undo your edits on the Joe Martin article because whilst Blackpool's bid has been accepted for him by Spurs, the player himself was stated to be discussing personal terms, and with no official word still whether he signed or not for Blackpool, he still remains a Spurs player until he does so. Of course once he is announced to have signed which looks very likely the article can be changed to reflect the new club etc.♦Tangerines♦·Talk 16:34, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to Wikipedia meetup in London[edit]

Wikimedia UK logo
Wikimedia UK logo

Date: 13:00 onwards, Sunday 10 August 2008

Venue: Penderel's Oak pub, Holborn WC1 map

More information: Wikipedia:Meetup/London 12

Hello,

I noticed that you have listed yourself as a Wikipedian in London, so I thought you might like to come to one of our monthly social meetups. The next one is going to be on Sunday 10 August, which might well be rather short notice, but if you can't come this time, we try to have one every second Sunday of the month.

If you haven't been before, these meetups are mainly casual social events for Wikipedia enthusiasts in which we chat about Wikipedia and any other topics we fancy. It's a great way to meet some very keen Wikipedians, but we'd also love for you to come along if you're interested in finding out more about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, or other collaborative wiki projects too.

The location is a pub that is quite quiet and family friendly on a Sunday lunchtime, so hopefully younger Wikipedians will also feel welcome and safe. Alcohol consumption is certainly not required!

Although the meetups are popular, many UK-based editors still don't know about them. It would be great to welcome some fresh faces, so I hope you can come along.

Yours,

James F. (talk) 09:27, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please forgive the slightly impersonal mass-invite!

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice[edit]

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Date formatting: Is it okay if we can get rid of all the date formatting, I mean, take out the font colour. I don't think that is needed and in the season overview text it looks pretty horrible. It is also miss-leading because it looks like links when they are not. Regards Govvy (talk) 17:31, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Sun[edit]

I think using The Sun as a citation brings the quality of the article down!! LOL. Just my own personal opinion! Govvy (talk) 19:01, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:Carling cup.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:Carling cup.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mosmof (talk) 14:44, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there. I'm afraid your diagram of White Hart Lane is incorrect. The north stand, the Paxton, is behind the goal, with the Park Lane opposite. The East and West stands run along the long sides of the pitch. You need to either change the labels on the diagram, or rotate the pitch and stadium 90 degrees :) 88.97.231.206 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 20:53, 4 February 2009 (UTC).[reply]

teamsheet[edit]

I saw what you mean, it's going into over information if you ask me. It seems like replication of information in some regards. Other aspect is to look at what it does to the page. The table looks ugly, my browser doesn't fit it because of my browser size. There for; that table compatibility for screen sizes is not good. I don't really want to see it. Regards Govvy (talk) 23:10, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I would get rid of it yes, simply because it enlarges the page. It's not a bad piece of work, just doesn't fit the page in format and style. The edit should be told the reasons why it was removed also. Govvy (talk) 23:22, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Azincourt-final lg.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Azincourt-final lg.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Fair use rationale for File:Blackpool fc logo.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Blackpool fc logo.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ╟─TreasuryTaghemicycle─╢ 13:40, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tottenham Hotspur F.C. Official Website seems a bit long, but I guess we should keep it to that through-out the Spurs pages. Maybe we could add a note for that on the to-do section on Tottenham Hotspur F.C. Cheers, Govvy (talk) 17:36, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

re: Tottenham Hotspur F.C. season 2008–09‎[edit]

Sorry for the delayed response. There have been several improvements to the article, but it looks like a lot of the comments I left in the peer review have not yet been addressed. Also my impression is that the article contains some personal analysis and could be made more neutral, e.g. "a remarkable turnaround", "smash and grab win", "heart-break of the final loss", "mauling", "grew to fever pitch". Also ambiguous statements such as "incurred much criticism from some quarters" (which quarters?) need to be clarified or removed. These types of issues in particular would need to be addressed before any Good Article nomination. Let me know if you need further help or suggestions. Thanks. --Jameboy (talk) 14:54, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering where you got his price tag from on the Tottenham Hotspur F.C. season 2009–10 article? Govvy (talk) 16:55, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gilberto is still a Spurs player, but for some reason foreign links keep changing his article to say he went to a Brazilian team. I wasn't sure if you had him on your watch-list or not. But was hoping you can also keep an eye on the vandalism and removal of him from Tottenham articles as it has been happening a fair few times. Regards Govvy (talk) 23:35, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think the article should be more correct, Spurs released him, he wasn't signed from Spurs on a free and he was released 1st June. I think that should be made clear the the season article. Govvy (talk) 21:24, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

2010–11 Tottenham Hotspur F.C. season‎[edit]

Hi. I see that you reverted my attempt to clarify the scores in the 2010–11 Tottenham Hotspur F.C. season article. Perhaps I didn't come up with the most elegant solution, but I do think that there is a problem with the way the scores are listed. Potential for confusion clearly exists, as demonstrated by the fact that several scores were listed the wrong way round, despite some of them having been there for some time. I note that 2010–11 Manchester United F.C. season always lists the Man Utd score first, whereas 2010–11 Chelsea F.C. season uses a completely different layout so there doesn't seem to be an established way of doing this. Do you agree that there is currently potential for confusion and, if so, do you have any suggestions for clarifying the scores? Cordless Larry (talk) 09:15, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. Can I also ask where you got the Gallas and Sandro squad numbers for this edit from? People keep adding them to various articles, but I don't see them on the Spurs site. Cordless Larry (talk) 13:07, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

London Wikimedia Fundraiser[edit]

Good evening! This is a friendly message from Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry, inviting you to the London Wikimedia Fundraising party on 19th December 2010, in approximately one week. This party is being held at an artistic London venue with room for approximately 300 people, and is being funded by Ed Saperia, a non-Wikipedian who has a reputation for holding exclusive events all over London. This year, he wants to help Wikipedia, and is subsidising a charity event for us. We're keen to get as many Wikimedians coming as possible, and we already have approximately 200 guests, including members of the press, and some mystery guests! More details can be found at http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/London - expect an Eigenharp, a mulled wine hot tub, a free hog roast, a haybale amphitheatre and more. If you're interested in coming - and we'd love to have you - please go to the ten.wikipedia page and follow the link to the Facebook event. Signing up on Facebook will add you to the party guestlist. Entry fee is a heavily subsidised £5 and entry is restricted to over 18s. It promises to be a 10th birthday party to remember! If you have any questions, please email me at chasemewiki at gmail.com.

Hope we'll see you there, (and apologies for the talk page spam) - Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry (talk) 23:46, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Invite to the African Destubathon[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:14, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. We're into the last five days of the Women in Red World Contest. There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. If you haven't contributed yet, we would appreciate you taking the time to add entries to our articles achievements list by the end of the month. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!
