Revert on talk page

Hi! You got rid of my comment on the Glossary of botanical terms talk page. I don’t care. But I’m curious as to why? – Elizabeth (Eewilson) (tag or ping me) (talk) 20:59, 20 December 2022 (UTC) – Elizabeth (Eewilson) (tag or ping me) (talk) 20:59, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

Fine!

I'll accept that in the snow world, "metamorphosis" might refer to the two general ways snow can change. But here in the real world, I'll still quietly stew in discontent. That aside, it's nice to meet you and I like your name; it conveys a sense of casually natural experience and authority. InedibleHulk (talk) 10:20, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

Information icon I noticed that a message you recently left to Elfling1979 may have been unduly harsh. Please remember not to bite the newcomers. If you see others making a common mistake, consider politely pointing out what they did wrong and showing them how to correct it. It takes more time, but it helps us retain new editors. Thank you. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 02:09, 4 March 2023 (UTC)

Glaucophytes

You're probably right that we shouldn't mention this clade in the lead, given that we're trying not to be over-techie. Normally on a clade article I'd think it rather usual to mention the clade's sister as a key element in placing it and its relationships in people's minds, but given that nobody has heard of the glaucophytes, it isn't going to help much in this case! All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 20:57, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

Request for Review

I noticed your good work on Plant, thanks for your efforts. If you have the time and inclination, I would appreciate having your sharp botanical eyes on some of the plant articles I've added or updated recently since I am only an amateur botanist. Geum triflorum, Penstemon albidus, Penstemon secundiflorus, Penstemon virens, or Penstemon whippleanus. If you're not interested, don't worry about it. I'm doing decently at catching my own mistakes, it just takes me a while. MtBotany (talk) 18:49, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

Unit conversions

May I ask your advice on unit conversions? On the article Draba verna, someone has just added conversions to every measurement, rendering it quite unreadable in my opinion, with spuriously accurate inch measurements. Is this necessary? Isn't there a better way of doing it? I'm sure this must have been discussed many times before and I've seen the policy, which seems to say that it is acceptable to do this. Thanks. E Wusk (talk) 12:53, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

I think the use of conversions is proper, since our readership is split between users of imperial and metric units. However, you are correct that the precision is spurious. Syntax for control of precision is indicated at Help:Convert#Quick start. I have made some changes. See what you think of it now, and suggest any further changes as you think necessary. Plantsurfer 19:31, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
Thank you - that improves it considerably. I'm happy enough with that, although it does occur to me that there could be more elegant ways of doing this sort of thing (for example, a system whereby pointing the mouse at a unit pops up the alternative or a "translate" option to convert a page to American English). But that's fine for now, and I see how I can do it myself if it arises again. E Wusk (talk) 08:21, 8 April 2023 (UTC)

British Isles

The politically driven wish to replace "British Isles" by "Britain and Ireland" is problematic, as has been pointed out elsewhere before. It only works if "Britain" means "the British Isles less the island of Ireland and its offshore islands", but none of the definitions at Britain correspond to that meaning. So I support your reversions, although I've almost given up. Sigh... Peter coxhead (talk) 14:53, 8 May 2023 (UTC)

Thanks. Personally, I think BSBI's change of name was ill advised, but unfortunately they have handed some editors a precedent. Plantsurfer 15:11, 8 May 2023 (UTC)

About the revert

When you reverted my edit on Carbon dioxide, please clarify what you mean by "Original was better". - Mox Eden (talk) 09:27, 19 June 2023 (UTC)

The period from late Cambrian until the start of the industrial revolution was in the past. The original wording was less than clear about that, but your rewording left open the interpretation that CO2 concentration is still being regulated by organisms and geological phenomena, whereas it is now clear that they have lost overall control. Plantsurfer 09:44, 19 June 2023 (UTC)
Okay, thanks! Mox Eden (talk) 09:08, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Weldor vs Welder

For the record, welding apprentice courses teach the difference between referring to a “weldor” (person) and “welder” (machine).  This difference is part of basic trade terminology taught in the USA and many other countries.

Reverted Edits on Gamete Article

Hello @Plantsurfer,

I am the user who has recently edited the article on Gametes. I am a student at the University of Plattsburgh, and I have been editing this article for a cell biology class project. I am just curious as to if there are any edits that are beneficial to keep on the page, or are there other parts of the article that would better benefit from the editing? I hope this helps with some clarification as to why I was editing this article in the first place. Please if you have any pointers, explain them, and I will thoroughly follow them.

Thank you! Anonymouslycool22 (talk) 18:04, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
