Orphaned non-free media (File:Israel Katz Portrait.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Israel Katz Portrait.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:42, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

Hi Pinias. Thank you for uploading File:Israel Katz Portrait.jpg. Do you have a photo of your father that you own the copyright to and could contribute instead under a free content license such as the GFDL or an appropriate Creative Commons license? Wikipedia's strong preference is to not use photos under a claim of "fair use" unless absolutely necessary (see WP:NFCC#1). --B (talk) 05:06, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Thank you for your note. I do have free pictures of my father, however thoses are usually not portraits, or not so good technically. There are many more pictures that came from the press and other professional photographer for which I have no info at all about author or source (in contrast to the one I uploaded). This specific picture was often used by my father whenever his photo was requested. Also we uploaded few years ago this pictures for use in the article in the Hebrew Wikimedia version (under "fair use"). If possible we would prefer to use this picture in the English version of Yisrael Katz Wikipedia article. I will try however to look for a free alternative for both English and Hebrew article version.

Thanks. Wikipedia has been gradually evolving over the years in terms of what "fair use" content is considered acceptable. It used to be that we would use press kit photos liberally - even if the person was still alive. One thing that I don't know if it's applicable here, but if there are any photos of your father that were published in the United States before 1978 with no copyright notice, they would be public domain in the United States. (It only counts if the photo was published in the US - not if it was only published in Israel.) Also, any photos created (regardless of publication) before 1946 in Israel are public domain in the United States. The strong, strong preference, even if it's not perfect, would be for a public domain photo or for one that you own the copyright to and would be willing to publish under a free license. Thanks. --B (talk) 01:46, 29 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for not responding discussion - I was off-line for few days; I found that the source of this picture is probably the Israeli National Insurance Institute archive. Hello Pinias. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Dr. Yisrael Katz".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Dr. Yisrael Katz}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save page", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. HasteurBot (talk) 14:00, 7 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
