Honiston and Sapington

Excellent stuff on Sapiston and Honington - such a relief from pathetic stubs such as Wheaton Aston. Dotty map - we are no longer dependant on Lupin to create dotty maps. Use {{GBthumb}} which can be made to point anywhere and does not gobble up 190K bytes for every map. (Not my idea - I cribbed it from Template:Ie citytown infobox.) You could have used the dotty maps for Thetford or Bury - they were both good enough (Lupin would disagree, I know).

If Image:Sapiston Village Walk.gif File:Sapiston Village Walk.gif is not a copyright violation upload it at a larger scale - Wiki is very clever at scaling maps down. If it is a copyvio, sadly, it must be removed.

I note that Image:Sapiston_Honington.jpg comes from [1]. So unless you are Paul Clark, that is patently a copyvio - but it would be worth contacting him for permission to use.

There is too much duplication between the two articles - population, walks and Dad's army do not need to be repeated. Perhaps the two articles should be merged. (Ironically, I have just told someone else that there should not be a joint article Moseley and Kings Heath but in this case a merge might be appropriate.)

Keep up the good work! -- RHaworth 2005 June 29 11:48 (UTC)

copyvios, etc.

the two images from historicaldirectories. Although the documents of which they are images are patently out of copyright, the images themselves are almost certainly copyright. -- RHaworth 2005 June 30 00:20 (UTC)

Two more copyvios

Sorry, I have moved two more images to copyvio status. I have held off on the other two from the Rampley site because I think Paul Clark might let you use them - but you must contact him.

Believe me, this is not a personal attack on you. Feel free to ask any other Wikipedian for a second opinion - Lupin for example. -- RHaworth 2005 July 1 08:14 (UTC)

Gender Reproduction

Gender reproduction is not a recognized scientific term. It also seems like the topics would be duplicated in the sexual reproduction article. I would rather see a concentration on improving the sexual reproduction article, than effort focused on duplicate information in gender reproduction or hermaphroditic reproduction.

Also remember that sex is the type of reproductive organs an individual has. Gender is only used in reference to humans, and refers to which set of secondary sexual characteristics a person identifies with. A slight but important difference. I would like to see "Evolution of genders" either focus on actual gender, or redirect to "Evolution of sex". Lyrl 00:07, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

I added this to hopefully answer any questions you have. Thanks for the quick reply. (UKPhoenix79 00:52, 17 February 2006 (UTC))

Bose QuietComfort 2 Second Edition (About)

I feel that saying "Overpriced" sounds better than "Most expensive" since Bose tends to price most of their products out-of-reach for most people--In fact, Noise-Cancelling Headphones are supposed to cost no more than $200 (Sony's Top-of-the-Line ones), and companies tend to price noise-cancelling headphones higher than its non-noise-cancelling counterparts. At $300—the Bose QuietComfort 2 is definitely overpriced, much of the reason being Bose charging more for its name preservation.

Also, with regards to the Bose Tri-Port Headphones, at the sound and build quality of them, they are AT LEAST $50 overpriced mainly because of the sound output and the material they use. If it was an Audiophile-friendly Headphone, then I would understand, but to pay $150 for a pair of premium headphones (or in the case of the QuietComfort 2, $300), all Bose Headphones are overpriced compared to their competitive counterparts—Bose Headphones are not an exceptional value because there are plenty of alternatives that provide equal or better sound for less price and/or a stronger value. In fact, rival offerings from Sony, Sennheiser, Shure, Etymotic Research, Klipsch, Grado, Altec Lansing, and even Koss are starting to match and/or exceed Bose in some, if not, most areas.

Therefore, my conclusion is "Overpriced" is much better than "Most Expensive". While the Bose QuietComfort 2 Second Edition has had several improvements, it still has to catch up with its sound performance at its $300 Price Tag, and IMO it needs to use "Dual-Phase" Noise Isolation technology plus it should definitely use newer technology to match up with its price tag, namely use dual-channel Neodymium Magnets and nine "Turbo Ducts" for more accurate detail. — Dark Insanity 23:32, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

Wow that was a very well thought out reply. I must say though that your arguments are based on opinions. Unfortunately the previous version of Bose Headphone Family was strife with opinions. Stating that the QuietComfort 2 headphones are overpriced tends to take one away from a neutral point of view, and I am just trying to get this page to a neutral as possible.
According to all the reviews I have read about the QuietComfort 2 they all continuously say the same thing, these are the best noise cancellation headphones out in the market but you pay for that technology and since it’s the best you have to pay for the best. c|net review on QC2 v1
c|net even put the rankings out there for noise reducing headphones [2]
1. Bose QuietComfort 2 (8.0 out of 10)
2. Sony MDR-NC11 (7.5 out of 10)
3. JVC HA-NC100 Noise Canceling Headphones (7.7 out of 10)
4. Sennheiser PXC 300 (7.7 out of 10)
5. AKG K 28 NC (7.5 out of 10)
I have tried many different noise reducing headphones out and well they just didn’t compare. Some of them I couldn’t ware for a long time because they pressed on my head with such a force that I had to take them off due to discomfort they caused. Others didn’t cup my ear so the noise reduction tech was worthless since I could hear everything out there, also others had descent noise reduction tech and sounded absolutely horrid! I mean if you’re going to spend all this $ on headphones you might as well enjoy them. I understand where you are coming from but just like you when I tried them I kept them. In my opinion these headphones have the best of all worlds they have the best noise reducing tech out there, very comfortable to ware and great sound quality with something unique a deep bass.
I must confess that I'm not familiar with the terms “Dual-Phase" or "Turbo Ducts" if you could elaborate on those techs that would be much appreciated.
I would love any input that you have on the headphones but please try to remember that this is an encyclopedia and we have to keep everything as neutral as possible! Great talking to you and hope to see you around (c:= UKPhoenix79 03:20, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

Noise-Isolating IEMs

Out of serious curiosity (and not to hurt your feelings), have you tried out the following?
  • Shure E4/E4C
  • Shure E5/E5C
  • Etymotic Research ER-6i
  • Etymotic Research ER-4 MicroPro
  • Ultimate Ears UE-10
  • Sennheiser HD 580-650 Series
I'm not gonna make additional biased edits just for neutrality's sake but remember that you can't consider yourself a true audio aficionado unless you try out these recommended products, some of them cost almost $1000 USD, most of them cost between $300-$550!!!
Bascially, Bose is actually considered a "luxury pair" when it comes to headphones, as IMO I view the Bose Tri-Port and QuietComfort 2 more as "for-airline flight entertainment headphones" IMO. I really had to sell a Bose QuietComfort 2 I used to use because the bass and mid levels tend to overlap the treble in some points of certain songs and sound accuracy wasn't solid, though the bass-driven sound may appeal to affluent travellers and iPod newbies. — Dark Insanity 04:56, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
Oh no worries your not hurting my feelings in the least (: When I was looking for headphones I was looking for a few specific things; Noise reduction, comfort for long usage & great sound.
I didn't look at those headphones for a few simple reasons. The Sennheiser HD 580-650 Series ($269-$549) are not noise reducing and the other Sennheiser models that are, aren't as good as the QuietComfort 2’s. All the others are all in-ear headphones Shure ($319-$549), Etymotic Research ($139-$299) & Ultimate Ears ($900) and I find in ear headphones uncomfortable to ware over long periods of time.
I must say that I haven’t heard headphones that can match the QuietComfort 2’s but I have only looked for non in-ear noise reducing headphones. I have managed to avoid an iPod up till now, still waiting for a true Portable video player, but I might just get an Archos. Yet that does mean that until I get one I have to carry my CD collection with me wherever I go ): So I think sometime soon I should get some type of portable mp3 player. You never did explain "Dual-Phase" or "Turbo Ducts" is there a Wikipedia article talking about them? Thanks for trying to keep this page NPOV, talk to you later UKPhoenix79 06:39, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
Dual-Phase—Any earpiece that would provide "sound dampening" to isolate sound when the noise is turned off, but would provide enhanced noise cancellation when the sound cancellation is turned on. I should point out that Bose need to create a more sound-dampening/sound-isolating earcup form-factor so that noise can actually be cancelled out naturally rather than artificially.
Turbo Ducts—"Holes" in the earcups that blow out the air so that the circuit boards can "breathe" the air it needs to provide enhanced detail in sound. Hope I answered all of your concerns. — Mark Kim 06:01, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your comments on my talk page. The biggest issue (as I keep repeating) with LOST-related articles is that people seem to want them to delve into speculation (i.e. "guesses"). I agree that the DHARMA Initiative should be focused on what we actually know about the group; and thus I wouldn't be opposed to a division of that page, with a separate article dealing with "the stations". However, speculative content (AKA "Original Research") would need to be kept from flourishing. I suggest that the idea be raised on the Talk page for the DHARMA Initiative article, where other editors can comment.

Regards, LeflymanTalk 04:21, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

I agree that there are some speculations about "the map" and I think that such guesses should be either noted, isolated or removed from any article. But I do think that some speculations can be rather informative. I hope that we don't merge "the map" with the DHARMA Initiative since I really don't believe that it belongs there. If it should be merged with anything it should be merged with a new stations article. As a side note I try to keep convos together so that it makes it easy for people to follow convos... So I hope that you dont mind that! (c:= Chat to you later -- UKPhoenix79 08:00, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
  • When you say that "some speculations can be rather informative", I would agree; but they would not be appropriate to Wikipedia. Speculation, guesses and the like are fine for fan sites-- such as for this show, Lostpedia-- but Wikipedia is aiming to be an encyclopedia and hence any info here must be verifiable, based on reliable sources. Speculation about fiction like Lost, which can't be cited to an external source, shouldn't be included-- not matter if it's actually "true" or just informative. Thanks again, --LeflymanTalk 18:59, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the note UKP. I pretty much agree with what you are saying. Coffeeboy 11:04, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

UKP - I just don't think at this point that the Lost "stations" are article-worthy. I am sure you have noticed that there's a problem developing with the explosion of articles relating to the Lost world. The solution is not to create more and more and more articles, but to make the articles we already have better, more concise, and more encyclopaedic. In creating new articles, we need to always consider "Is this worthy of an encyclopedia?" I just think making new articles on the "stations" will create a lot of cruft and potential for poorly written articles. Danflave 13:30, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your comments on my talk page. However, you're preaching to the choir here because that basically backs up exactly what I'd said in the same comments section on the vote page. ;-) --Maelwys 11:23, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

V monologue

I think you were the person who originally posted the monologue a long time ago. Where did you originally find the monologue? Was it from a site or did you make it yourself?--P-Chan 04:07, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

I only remember because I was one of the original people who commented on it when you first posted it. Please check the V for Vendetta (film) talk page. There is a link there, you should review regarding this topic.--P-Chan 04:48, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
I'm going to delete that talk conversation we had over on the V for Vendetta page concerning the 55 words, because we wondered into topics like obtaining low quality versions of the film and the site yourtube. We want people to watch the film right?  :) You and I were the only participants, so I'm guessing no one would mind if that topic disappeared.... And go watch the film still! I'm going to do that one last time (on IMAX) before it leaves theaters. Cheers!! --P-Chan 08:36, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
By the time I got your message, I already cut off chunks of it. If I removed anything important by accident, feel free to just reverse it.--P-Chan 08:41, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

IMDB template categories

Hi there. I noticed you created some categories for articles using IMDb templates. Do you mind if I ask your reasoning? Setting the precedent of a corresponding category for every template is a bit worrying, and you can get a list of which pages use a given template by using the "What links here" link in the sidebar. —Whouk (talk) 11:26, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

But of course you can ask! Yes, I did create those categories. I believe that it would be a better and a more convenient addition to allow people to browse the Movies/TV shows/Actors inside of wikipedia. The "what links here" option is quite limited so I don't think it is a really good alternative. I have seen other categories inside of wikipedia that have been split up alphabetically making it a lot easier to navigate the listings. Something I hope will be added later. This is only a minor addition that I think will become very useful. I hope that answers your questions :) -- UKPhoenix79 11:59, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
I guess my concern is now that all the articles using the templates now have extra categories they don't need. If you want to browse actors, say, then there are countless actor categories (e.g., Category:English television actors) - which are also sorted properly via piped cat links. Category:Imdb name won't, for example, sort on surname but on page name. If the Category:Imdb title is intended to list films, then it should be Category:Films - which already exists, and is heavily subcategorised. As it is, it's not a logical category as it's just "stuff with an IMDb title entry", which mixes films, TV shows and TV movies (and, potentially, TV episodes). —Whouk (talk) 12:35, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Thank You!

Thanks for adding Highlander template! I was asking other user to make a template, but you already made it. Phew! Anyway, these are other things you might add in the template. I dunno how to make a template. Thanks again! I am so relieved.

It was bugging me trying to navigate through the Highlander pages so I decided that enough was enough. Thanks for the list of suggested articles. You caught a few that I didn't notice so I quickly added them in. All except for Nick Wolfe and Don Vincente Marino Ramírez since there were no pages there and I do not recall these characters. I have noticed your edits around a lot of Highlander related topics and from what I have seen you have done some really nice work. Do you focus mainly on the TV series? No, I don't focus mainly on the TV Series. But Highlander: The Series is the first article in Wikipedia I made from scratch...if my memory serves me correctly. Lol. After that I just dabbler around. Thanks again for the template. I've been asking around, and not many wanted to help 'cause most ppl doesn't have the knowledge of Highlander. I also have a limited knowledge of HL, but I'd try my best. Wikipedia is pretty hard to get used to; especially with tags, copyright and such. I don't want to breaking the rules or anything. Talk to u later! HoneyBee 07:37, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
The Highlander Series is one of my fav TV shows, so it was something I was glad to do. I must say its very impressive that you created that article as your first page! Yea I know how complicated it can be trying to upload non-copyrighted images. Just ask around or have people check up if you don't know if something is copyright or not. I know that I too have had problems knowing what can be added. I tend to use Wikipedia:Image copyright tags when I don't know if an image would be allowed. Luckily you can upload screen shots from TV shows so all you have to do is have the DVD's a computer with a DVD player and the time to watch each episode again for good shots to come along. Just checkout {{Tv-screenshot}}. Chat to you later! -- UKPhoenix79 11:04, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
Thx for creating the user manual template! Again, what a life saviour. Anyhoo, just wanna say that the character of Nick Wolfe is immortal -- He's the main protagonist for the spinoff. I mention this because I noticed that his border is orange. English is not my first language btw, so I know there are some grammar problems regarding the Highlander articles, so I'd appreciate it if you'd help to edit any kind of mistakes. Thanks. Oh, one more thing; some of the articles are in the past tense and the present tense, which one we should use, so it could be consistent? e.g Duncan MacLeod was a character in Highlander the series OR Duncan MacLeod is a character in Highlander the series. And one more thing (sorry - before I forgot something), some of the articles are so BIG and ppl tend to write so many details, or even adding nonsense. I think we should make it more simple but explanatory, instead repetitive (sp?). What do you think? HoneyBee 10:46, 30 April 2006 (UTC) I still have one more thing to ask, but I'll wait for your reply first :D

But of course, It was actually a good learning experiance for me. Sorry about the mistake on the character, I never got a chance to watch Highlander: The Raven but it is now fixed. I must say that your english is very good so it is nothing to ba ashamed of... Have you created Highlander pages in your native tounge on wiki? The best thing to do is compare the article to others out there that are Good/Featured articles and see what they do. Like Star Trek: Deep Space Nine/Doctor Who for show comparisons and Benjamin Sisko/Dalek for character comparisons. But generally I would use past tense for characters that have died on the show not those still alive. And yes you are correct, too much repeditive information should be removed or edited down. Chat to you later (c:= -- UKPhoenix79 11:08, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for answering this! Anyhoo, I'd like to mention about so many characters pages have been created by users. I think we should limit it only to main characters. The rest of minor characters should have a sharing page, instead of their own pages. I mean, they have unlimited characters! What's your suggestion? HoneyBee 08:43, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
Sorry about the delay in the reply, I just never noticed your message! Well your idea would let everyone monitor the progress and the quality of each entry by keeping them all on one or more pages. But it looks like a user has already beaten us to the puch and spent a lot of work creating multiple character pages. So at this time I don't think that it would be that feasable, especially since they all seam to be done very well. -- UKPhoenix79 23:13, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
i deleted the list so it won't make your talk page over-crowded. HoneyBee 16:02, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

I found your infobox comments and commented on them.--P-Chan 06:25, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
It was something that had been proposed by others and since it is an option not a requirement it allows people to include another film info website without disrupting every other article out there and I think thats why no one has objected to its inclusion. I still hold firm that IMDb is a necessity almost mandatory when using this template but since AMG has some info that isn't included on IMDb I think it will be a great companion. If you don't want it linked in the main template of V for Vendetta (film) that's ok by me, but why did you remove the external link to the website? V for Vendetta at AllMovie

I replied to your comments on the template page. In regards to the VFV (film) case... I took it out for the same reason as in the INFOBOX, in that it is largely redundent (and lesser quality in this case).
In regards to what I wrote in the INFOBOX page.... it is entirely possible that IMDB won't be superior in every comparison between the two systems... so I agree with the people who say that it is a good idea to give people the option to choose between the two. Wiki Highlander World - Reply

Thanks for the advice. I've started editing my user page; it's not much but you can check it out. About the page List of Highlander episodes, it looks nice but now I have to change the characters appearances. That's going to be painful, specially for Duncan. See you around. Secretaria 18:26, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Well, Kalas also only appears in 5 episodes an Ahriman in 3. My reasoning for keeping them is that they seem to be the major villains in the first two seasons (like Kalas is for season 3, Kronos is for season 5 and Ahriman for season 6). As Duncan seems to be the main villain for season 4 we don't need to put another villain. But I don't know. There are more important villains regarding MacLeod's life like Kern and Kanwulf whose importance in the seasons they appear are minor. But if the four horsemen belong in the template so should Kronos. Secretaria 10:23, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
Any time... Have you ever read any Highlander novels or do know anyone who has? Because I need help in Duncan's Quickening chronology. I've never read any novels and I don't know when exactly the last four novel quickenings took place. Secretaria 10:36, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

I think that you'll find that the reason Bose isn't generally considered high end even in its consumer line, like Bose Car Audio (for luxury cars), the Built Invisibles or the Lifestyle 48 which I would say all would also count for High End Audio, is because Bose tends to go against the norm and doesn't release its specs or follow trends inside the industry. Bose instead relies on its own R&D following its own lead.
Bose doesn't seam to really want to cater to audiophiles. Now this can be a problem since it creates a bad name within audiophile circles. But I believe that overall its a good idea and has lead to Bose's success, since the audiophile market is rather limited and most don't even agree on what anything is supposed to sound like or what technology will reproduce sound correctly.
Bose instead focuses on high end sound for the average user and is designed for ease of use. If you look at the LS 48 for instance it is very hard to find a complete high end system that can do all that it offers for under $4,000 USD. Sure you could get something that can sound even better and do all the same (or more) for around $7-8k but thats quite a price jump and I doubt it will be as easy to use. Since most baby-boomers are getting closer to retirement and it's doubtful that they'll be able to understand most high end systems as easy as they could a Lifestyle system. So for the general user this is a High End system with the added bonus of ease of use.
As for audiophiles I doubt that they will accept anything from Bose like many people will never accept anything from Microsoft, no matter how good it is just because it comes from them. I would say that bose speakers as they are would fit the definition of high end audio. Maybe Bose should create a daughter company under a different name to cater to audiophiles and after a few decades reveal their true identity. Oh b.t.w. thanks for asking me before reverting it :) ! -- UKPhoenix79 10:05, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

QC3's announced?! Already?!

I guess I'd better save up some cash if I want a pair of headphones to watch for the movies (I tried the Shure Earbuds, they're only appropriate for music, not for movies, but I found out that the Bose Headphones work in a variety of applications), but I welcome your creation of "Previous Bose Headphones", though my lingo would rather address it as "Legacy Bose Headphones" (But Previous Headphones makes more sense). Anyway, thanks for keeping me posted. When the QC3 is released, I'm gonna have to compare them against the QC2 SE to see which one is more appropriate for movies. I realize that the QC3 is going to use a diffrent earcup as opposed to the QC2 SE. I'll have to test drive all Bose Headphones to see if I can benefit from the QC3's Environmentally-friendliness factor or not (besides, I'm worried about this "Double-Corded" Syndrome). I'm getting in line now...

I really do regret that I had to give up a pair of Bose QC2's because I thought I don't need it anymore, well I was dead wrong--I found the QC Family to be well-suited for movies. Now I understand that I should have more than one pair of headphones and/or earbuds, NOT JUST ONE. From the past, I used to wear Sony-branded headphones and earbuds, tried out the Bose Tri-Port and QuietComfort 2 Headphones as well. Now if I can actually save up the money for it, then I should be happy. Now I have to go to sleep. — Mark Kim (Reply/Start Talk) 04:34, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
